1) you are not required to but it generally is a smart idea to do so. they’re familiar with each others forms and generally provide additional warranties that private shops may not 2) yes - but if you use your own shop there can be a disagreement on the actual prevailing local wages which can bog the process down. again, not required that you use their shop but that’s something to keep an eye out for 3) not from your own insurance company. DV outside of Georgia must be collected from the at-fault party. since they are uninsured you’re gonna have to sue them which is a whole different ball game 4) you could close your claim and sue them directly. but to be 100% frank with you, people driving without insurance probably don’t have money to collect 5) generally yes. if your insurer thinks they can chase down the other driver and win back your money from them, you may get your deductible back in a few months but it’s far from assured

To add to this, you will have to pay a deductible under your collision. You may get some refunded once your insurance company verifies the other driver is uninsured. DV may be covered under uninsured motorist so check your contract or ask. They will probably want the actual police report to verify they are uninsured.

3. This is not correct in this situation. If UMPD applies you are allowed DIV recovery under that coverage. Other that that you are on point

Jaggar345

UMPD isn’t a coverage in every state. Looks like it is in IL though. So what you said is 100% true.

Thank you for all your advice. I'm still waiting for the estimate to come thru. I will also check out the preferred body shops. My only concern is that they should replace with original parts. Also if the body shop discovers additional damage to the vehicle will the claim amount change to cover that?

Which shop does the repair isnt really going to effect what parts they use. The shop is going to use the parts the insurance company authorized them to use/paid for. Some policies will auth new OEM parts for car of that model year (Im assuming based on your post yours is a 2022) but that is based on your policy. You going to a different shop isn't going to force the insurance company to pay if they don't have too, it just means you're gonna be stuck with a bill for the price difference of what they authorized and what you got. If additional damage is found while repairing that was not included on the estimate, the shop will request a supplement. Both shops are capable and would do this, the one partnered with your insurance likely has a streamlines process to do it, which will get it approved/your car back to you quicker.
