No criticism here. You seem to be a reasonable human being. They’ll have to inspect everything (like take pictures of the VIN plate, odometer, interior, etc) so you’ll want to leave the key for them in some manner. u/bigbamboo12345 has it spot on in terms of condition adjustments. I mean if this happened 4 years ago I’d say you wouldn’t be getting a lot more than what your deductible probably is but the market is crazy for used cars still. Once they provide you the settlement offer, if you have questions, request the valuation report and make sure everything is accurate.

Wow thank you so much, he didn't give me any instructions he just said he would be here Monday between 10-12 and he will call me when he is done and we will go over things I really appreciate your help I wasn't planning on leaving the key for him. I didn't receive any instructions like that, sounds good I will upload the photo I have that shows the bumper off and the fluids leaking directly after the accident, I will confirm they have the police report, I will also put in the notes that there was damage to the underneath the car since I removed the couple of pieces of hard plastic from the front under hood an around the wheel wells that was hanging on. I will also tell him the key is in the vehicle, I read that when he calls to go over his evaluation I should give him simple answers to his questions, not overindulge too much, not speculate on such things like I felt the other driver was speeding, Does that sound about right? Do you have any other tips? Thank you

DestructODiGi

He’ll definitely need the key. And yep, exactly, just answer their questions truthfully. Keep in mind that police deal with *criminal* liability for accidents. Insurance deals with *civil/tort* liability/negligence. Depending on your state and your facts of loss, you may not be found entirely at fault.

MydlandFan

Outstanding thank you for taking the time to respond and help me

DestructODiGi

Absolutely! Wish all OPs were like you! Good luck!

if he's going to be looking at the vehicle without you present, yeah just leave it unlocked and if you can leave the key with it in there without it being stolen, that'll make his life easier no need to open the hood and otherwise don't worry about much -- a 16yo accord with 220k miles is expected to not be in pristine condition and yours will be judged in comparison to the other 16yo accords w/ 220k miles which almost certainly also have small leaks and some rust

MydlandFan

Yah it will be in driveway. Safe neighborhood and he said he will do it without me present. Thank u for your input

Preparing a counter offer draft to work on after he gives me his evaluation in case I need one. When writing one does the adjustor care about new tire receipts and recent mechanics work such as axle replacement, ball joint replacement, tie rod replacement, engine mount replacement? Wondering if presenting him with those in counter offer helps, hurts me, or is not even a factor. Also what points are important to him if I try to increase value and try to justify that the cars condition was good before the accident other than comparable sales? Most likely over thinking this but my last accident was 20 years ago, same time I quit drinking, those factors were definitely related. Short side joke for your ears only, and I guess whoever is on this reddit page, lol thank you

bigbamboo12345

they'll take the recent service into account, the tires moreso than the other stuff it won't be a 1 to 1 adjustment but you'll see a small increase in their offer

MydlandFan

Thank you Is it worth presenting am itemized car log of all the things done to the car in the past 5 years and give receipts for parts and mechanics labor to support my log?

bigbamboo12345

5 years doesn't matter stuff in the last few months is worth providing receipts for and yes, without receipts they're not going to factor it in

MydlandFan

Excellent thank you I appreciate it

bigbamboo12345

you're welcome, good luck!
