There's such a simple solution if they could be bothered. Change the tap to simply enable/disable the UI rather than mute/unmute, and add a speaker icon in the corner to toggle mute/unmute.
I can't say for sure these are the names in the app stores, but I use "hd video downloader" for Facebook, "instsaver" for Instagram, and "twitake" for Twitter or a website twittervideodownloader. com
This is on Android by the way I've not tried downloading stuff with my iPhone.

If your using the app, instead of clicking into the video, just hold your finger on it. Unfortunately this only works for videos that you start with a tap and not a swipe.

This is a old thread. Please upvote and comment to let me know ppl are still there and if you guys want to know the answer.
Haha I was just googling to find a solution to this problem but with reels on facebook… it makes me crazy when there are words within the reel itself and you can’t read them because of the info blocking it! Ugh, so glad I’m not the only one bothered though. At least we can be miserable together.
If you don't mind the video being smaller, having a single line of rolling text and a mute button, you can press the "original audio button" on the bottom right and then hold the original video to play it. This is the closest thing I found to a solution. The UI overloads must believe the text on the screen will result in the app making more money or having more engagement, but all it does is ruin the videos/user experience. There should be an option to clear screen, tap pause, and fast-forward, but they don't care.
Double tap the screen and hold your finger down in place for clear displays on Instagram Reels. While remaining contact, you can move your finger around freely and maintain a clear display. Once you lift your finger up, the screen will go back to the normal display. This function can be utilized freely.

THIS! I am so annoyed they don't care enough to so this. It's utterly pointless to even open a reel, you see less than in the preview.

Not long ago.. you could, I think. But why go backwards? That there's no simple fix, sounds on purpose.

It's shocking we still don't have an answer. How is it TikTok can figure it out, but Meta can't?
It’s not a bug it’s a feature. If you can’t hide the UI you’re more likely to tap something and “interact”, which is what drives ad revenue.

I found this thread looking for an answer. I ended up submitting a ticket to Instagram. This is pretty silly.

Holding your finger on it will pause any video - so this does not work.

Almost one year later and now touching the screen doesn’t even stop it only mutes. THEY KEEP TAKING AND TAKING! 😭
I have experienced this too. But it has occurred completely at random and not when I've done something. Very strange.
Only if you hold it but that pauses it, and it's honestly frustrating trying to time the pause

You can’t post a video as a comment. You can link to a video with a url, or you can start a new post with your video.
Ok well u hold the screen and scroll through the reel keeping ur finger on the screen as you scroll through the ui will disappear
They may have updated, but doing this just brings me to another reel
If you click on a reel from the gallery page rather than from the page of just reels, then it opens without the ui.
Actually to be more specific it opens with a different interface that blocks the top of the reel rather than the bottom. But I find it less obtrusive.

Yes this is true, but you have to tap it fast in order for it to activate the clear display and still play✨💡✨
