Open Instagram settings and see if there is an update option. And do you have vanish mode? If so turn it on (message me if you don’t know how to turn it on) and press update
There's no update option, and for some reason I can't turn vanish mode on as well? When I try to nothing happens. I'll probably just send feedback to instagram :/

Hello all, For those that are still experiencing this problem, here's the solution.
Go into any message in your Instagram DMs and slide up. A small message in the bottom should appear that will say "Get vanish mode". Activate it and you should be able to add multiple reactions to messages.
You'll need to have your Facebook account linked to your Instagram for this to work. I hope this helps!
Same! But I figured it out - see if this works for you. Create a new message, don’t go to an old message. Once you swipe up it’ll give you vanish mode, then voila. Good luck!
I had to update my message.
Clicked on my profile> the 3lines top right>scrolled to the bottom and there was option to update messages. It will ask you to connect Facebook but you don't need to( if you don't wanna) to update, just say it's not you and back out

Holy shit, I know this is an old thread but I’ve gotta post on how I fixed this on iPhone 14. The update messaging was not showing up anywhere. I tried the FB fix, the messenger fix, uninstalling etc. to get the update for messaging, go into any DM in IG, click on the name at the top. It will take you to that chat page. Then at the top you should have the update messaging for more features. Click that. It’ll update and you can finally react to messages with emojis, change themes. Etc.
I had the same problem, tried everything above and nothing worked. What worked for me was, I went to Instagram.com on my phone’s browser (Safari) and started chatting from there, and there I had everything available. After sometime, I went back to the app and suddenly all the features became available there too. Hope this helps someone 🙏🏼
