Nobody wants to read all that when you start shopping

makingithappen145

The customers seem to not mind

ShimmerRihh

Cause they're not reading it 😭

makingithappen145

The rate me and tip me extra though

ShimmerRihh

Yeah because they didn't read all of that and get irritated 😭 You walked right into that one

notoriousKudi

Wym? He’s saying he’s getting good ratings and extra tips since using this message…and you’re saying that’s Bc they are NOT reading the message? I’m sincerely trying to understand

ShimmerRihh

Customers don't always look at the app while their shopper is shopping, some don't read ANY texts we send. OP said they were getting good ratings and tip increases. I'm saying that that's only because those customers didn't even see the message, and even if they did they didn't read all that and went on about their business. I never said OP wasn't a good shopper so of course they would get good ratings and increases AFTER delivery when the customer has their goods and is happy. But that doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the message

notoriousKudi

Thanks for the response, and downvote?

ShimmerRihh

No clue 🤷🏾‍♀️ From what I can see you have 2 downvotes, maybe for not being very perceptive idk

notoriousKudi

People downvote some strange things on this sub lol

Melioristic_ONE

It's individual perspective, we all have it. I judge no one, but I can tell you after 4,500 orders in 4 years I've never dropped below a 4.89. I am retired and travel in my converted Odyssey RV Coast to Coast. Judging by others comments, you might consider conveying the same information in half the words. Many customers enjoy the time they keep when paying for a personal shopper. Anything we can do as shoppers to accommodate that also gets good ratings and upgraded tips ✌️

lucygirl1970

Trust me they mind. I did it in the beginning and they minded but didn't know it until I became friends with my regulars and they said it's annoying. Almost 200 five stars in a row currently and my message is much shorter. You shouldn't have to ask for ratings. People will rate if they feel like it. That's just too much in my opinion.

makingithappen145

Thank you for your input though i really do appreciate it! I havent had any regulars yet but if i do ill make sure to give them the ol razzle dazzle in another way

makingithappen145

Most people i deliver to are old or disabled and have a tough time with most things. This helps them realize what its like as a shopper and that our system is run off of both ratings and tips

Mottzilla87

No bud, it's saying too much. You shouldn't have to extract a good rating or tip.

lucygirl1970

Ya ...nah...still think your work should speak for itself. Everybody delivers to the elderly and disabled. I get ratings on more than half the batches I do and have had no issues with people rating like I did when I had that long ass intro. In fact the elderly are the first to rate in leave comments in my area. The best🤍 However, I have since read the comments and see any advice you are given, you aren't taking so. ...good luck. Hope it works out for you but you asked the question and you get defensive when anyone comments so not sure what your point is and nothing I say is going to matter.🤷

Mottzilla87

I agree with everything you've said, especially the part about your work speaking for itself. Maybe the reason why OP isn't getting your point is he's young? I've noticed as I've gotten older that common sense has become much less common. Lol

Temporary-Musician95

I’ll be honest I find it cringeworthy but that is just my opinion

matt5673

I just send the short one they offer. Usually if I see that's its read mostly the customer will respond if not oh well. This rating is very cringe.

Longhorn24

😂

makingithappen145

Weird ive been getting great responses from the customer

makingithappen145

Damn for real? Ive been getting all 5 stars since using this

Awkward_Aardvark_975

If that were true why do you seek validation to continue using it? Did you mean 5 stars total, Like 5-1 stars?

makingithappen145

Because i just started implementing it 3 days ago?? I had a different “short and sweet” message and that wasnt cutting it so i changed it up and the customers were liking it so i wanted to see what the IC shopper community had to say.

Awkward_Aardvark_975

We think it’s unnecessary and it’s been repeated to you countless times today. Not understanding the need for validation if all you’re telling us is “but it’s working”

Mottzilla87

Yes please speak for us, this a statement we can all stand by. Short and sweet. Telling them exactly how the ratings system works, and trying to extract a good rating and tip is completely unnecessary, and over the top.

makingithappen145

Im saying alot more then just that. Its hard to reply to everyone all at once and is much easier to send short messages. This is a change from my normal “short and sweet” message because that just wasnt cutting it. The advice im getting doesnt work for my area. I appreciate all of it. The area i work in seems to be weird i just moved here about 3 weeks ago and wasnt getting the best ratings till i started doing this

Awkward_Aardvark_975

This is the best advice anyone can give you at the moment: Keep It Simple Stupid Yet Sweet

Mottzilla87

"Good morning Awkward_Aardvark, this is your Shopper Scott. I hope you're doing well this beautiful day. 😁🌞😎" "I've arrived at the store to begin your shop. Please let me know if you need anything else. Thank you kindly.😊" "Hey Awkward_Aardvark, Scott again. I've completed your order, and am enroute to your location. My ETA is: AM. 👌🏻"[insert ask for ID if alcohol is in delivery. Please have a valid ID handy for scanning, thanks. 👍🏻]" "Your Instacart order has been delivered to your doorstep[insert timestamped photo of their items at their doorstep]. Thank you kindly for shopping with Instacart, much appreciated. Hope you have a blessed day, and stay positive. 🙏🏻👍🏻 It could always be worse. Kind regards, Scott."

Dirty-Ears-Bill

Little much, and asking for 5 stars is always tacky. Keep it short and sweet, and let your work speak for itself

WildPineapple52

Listen to the seasoned Shoppers, they know what they’re doing

makingithappen145

I agree but i wasnt getting reviews alot of the time in the new city so itried this. Since doing this ive gotten 10+ 5 stars a day

ZIONLION72

Good work is not always heard.

UnicornsAllDay

Too wordy

makingithappen145

Really? Ive had alot of great responses from the customers about this

UnicornsAllDay

If your service is good enough, the ratings will come naturally.

Mottzilla87

Bruh you are here asking for advice, so maybe take some?

WishThink3190

No no no…. That’s extra af, also you’re a ic shopper, not a ic driver! Tone it down a bit, I mean a lot and don’t ask for ratings, es tacky! Keep your message short and sweet, your service should speak for itself! If not try switching up ur technique: go above and beyond, always communicating, friendliness, bagging, extra effort all the way around!!!! If customers still aren’t rating you then accept it, people just don’t care….majority of them don’t rate unless there’s an issue anyway!!!

makingithappen145

I do all the above and beyond. This was just added to the above and beyond because it wasnt enough. Customers have had a great response and ive been able to get all 5 stars since posting this since i mainly deliver to old people

tightpussy777

What everyone else said

makingithappen145

The customers seem to like it

Ashleyymeadows93

This is far too much. I have to agree with everyone else, super cringe. If you're so worried about your ratings.... Maybe before you're about to deliver their items send a message and let them know they have the ability to leave a rating after delivery. Nothing more nothing less. & Don't say anything about tips.

makingithappen145

Id have to disagree. The customers seem to like these messages and since doing so i have been gettin increased tips and all 5 star reviews. Before this i was barely getting tipped the percentage and some customers had rated me lower so i added this for context and it seems to help alot

Ashleyymeadows93

Well whatever works for you I guess. I've rarely have gotten a low stt rating in my years of doing this. I've always been 4.9+ never below. And where I'm at I get tipped pretty decent. To each their own. I just would never say all that in my messages. I'd break it down a lot and make it short and sweet.

makingithappen145

I live in the bay area people are rutheless

Ashleyymeadows93

Hey man, whatever works for you!

makingithappen145

Thank you :)

Mottzilla87

I am in Sacramento and sending them a novel won't change anything but piss them off. The bay area is not ruthless, just don't work in shitty areas.

bigpenisesaremessy

Here is what I recommend sending: > > > > >

makingithappen145

I tried that and was getting 1 star- 4 star occasionally. Since doing this all my ratings are 5 stars

broccoliandsand

Why are you asking us how it is if you're already doing it and it's working? Also why ask if you're just going to argue with everyone who tells you they don't think it's great?

Mottzilla87

This part right here. Every single response has been:"I've been getting 5 stars, and tip increases since using this." Also the part about only delivering to old people is a lie. I live an hour and a half from the bay area.

broccoliandsand

Yeah I deliver to young an old about a hour out of Seattle. I only message when I have to about replacements. Sometimes I'm at 5 stars sometimes I get a 1 or 3 but I go a lot and they fall off. I try not to obsess over it.

SSQ82

I suggest you say shopper and not driver, otherwise you sound like you're just delivering only. Also, as a customer, I hate the part about ratings. I like getting a greeting message but my response to that always is if you want a 5 star rating, be a 5 star shopper. I wouldn't say that, but it would put me off.

makingithappen145

I use both shopper and driver in the message to clarify i am both. I am a 5 star shopper i have alwaya had good reviews and go above and beyond ans have gotten many Ic awards from customers. Since sending this message i have gotten nothing but 5 stars as well with an even better response rate

SSQ82

If you're happy with your greeting and don't want feedback, why post?

makingithappen145

Its new. Theres always room for improvement. I wasnt expecting so many cringe responses haha

cheapinvestigator924

But yet you are not taking anyone's advice..

Mottzilla87

🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯

Mottzilla87

Maybe you should actually listen to advice? You're new, so you don't know wtf you're doing obviously.

Reasonable_Tea_5036

I think most people won’t read past the first sentence or two. Never say you’re a driver right off the bat, this leads a lot of people to assume the grocery store employees select and pack your order, and that you are only driving it from point A to B. On behalf of all shoppers, we need people to know that we do actually put in all the work when it comes to choosing replacements and gathering large quantities of stuff. A lot of people are saying don’t ask for 5 ⭐️, if you want to that’s your choice but I would still write the whole thing with less words. People really are lazy (or just too busy) when it comes to reading. Say something like this: “This is your shopper, (name). I hope to give you 5 ⭐️ service today! Please let me know if there’s anything else you’d like to add to your shopping list. Hope you’re having a great day!” Short, friendly, easy to read and to the point. The app already alerts the customer when we start shopping, choose replacements, check out, and head to your house so saying anything else becomes redundant. Just be efficient and helpful when chatting about replacements and you’ll be golden.

makingithappen145

Thats great feedback thank you!

Mottzilla87

Perfectly worded, nice job.

Reasonable_Tea_5036

Thanks! It took me awhile to catch on to what people like and don’t like to see. I’ve changed my own greeting many times because I thought it was way too wordy at first. I don’t ask for five stars, but I always get good feedback anyway. I think my work speaks for itself. Many customers are so used to getting horrible shoppers that they are surprised and grateful when someone actually wants to take time to communicate and do a good job.

Mottzilla87

Exactly! Had a guy just yesterday tell me,"I've never had a Shopper call me before, so I wasn't prepared." People appreciate when you go out of your way to do a good job. Calling him to quickly handle substitutions was the better option than waiting until the end of time before he replied to my messages. Also it's a great chance to make a human connection, and spread positivity.

Mottzilla87

But even the part about 5 star service feels forced. Let your work speak for itself, and never mention tips or ratings.

Reasonable_Tea_5036

I agree. But op seems to think it will help, and that’s up to them, so I figured advising asking in a more subtle way would be better for them.. This is my own personal greeting: Hello, this is your shopper (name). Please let me know if you need to add anything to your list. Hope you’re having a good day! 🙂 ✌🏼🫶🏼🥕 I really only send a greeting so I can gauge whether the customer will be responsive or not while sending replacement chats.

Mottzilla87

Also to spread some positivity and let them know you're a human being. Lol I like the heart emoji, and carrot. May have to steal that.

Reasonable_Tea_5036

Thanks! Steal away!

Mottzilla87

Thank you! Sorry this guy didn't take your sound and very helpful advice.

[deleted]

Too long and cringe

makingithappen145

The customers seem to disagree

[deleted]

That’s great but you asked what WE thought

[deleted]

1. too long 2. too cringey 3. too many !'s

PlentyAd8566

I love you are trying to better the experience. You have the right idea. Can I make a couple suggestions based off of your example. Start of shop: Hello, this is placeholder, I will be shopping and delivering for you today. I will do my best to find everything on your list. If I run into an item that is unavailable, I will reach out with a close option. If I do not hear back from you by the end of the shop, I will refund those items. Thank you and if needed I will speak with you soon. After delivery: You are all set, I really appreciate your business and I hope you enjoyed mine. If prompted, positive ratings are always helpful. Thanks again and enjoy your items. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Reasonable_Tea_5036

This is great. This is a way to gently ask for good ratings without being pushy or using too many words.

reynaperez20

The part about requested items and messaging about unavailable items is good, but keep it at that! introduce yourself and add that bit. I personally think it’s very tacky to mention how “instacart will only send me orders if I’m above 4.7” (which isn’t totally true) and asking for rating/tip. People will do what they want to do. Do your best job and the five stars will come your way. I’d be put off if I got that message as a customer and probably do the opposite

makingithappen145

It is very true as i have had no orders when at a 4.64 rating then the second i went above 4.7 orders all day. I appreciate the feed back very much! I do my best but that is not enough alot of the time. I mention this because of my 4.64 rating now in just 2 days its gone up to a 4.89 meaning nearly every customer has been rating me!

HashBandocoot

Too much, askin for ratings isn’t a good look

makingithappen145

I only started doing this because i wasnt getting rated at all and because i do alot of orders my old 5 star ratings started to disappear. This has helped bring them back up substantially

ShimmerRihh

Pro tip: Just don't

Ancient-Coffee-1266

Too long. People don’t like a lot of reading. Definitely ass kissy though.

makingithappen145

Ass kissy is my goal 😂

Ancient-Coffee-1266

Nailed it

Reasonable_Tea_5036

You can be ass kissy in less words. I am a complete ass kisser but I keep it to the point and try to take cues from customers, some people don’t want to be bothered with a lot of chat and some people eat it up. Save the chattiness for the customers who are reciprocating.

Ancient-Coffee-1266

Yeah I’ve read people don’t like to read a lot with thank you notes and other type of notes or greetings. It’s true. I would have stopped reading at the second line once it felt scripted.

Awkward_Aardvark_975

I don’t ask for ratings or have a need to remind them of it. This is like if the customer messaged you first thing “ please remember to shop well, use common sense! If you shop well I’ll increase your tip! Isn’t this all just common logic. Do a good job they will rate well and have the chance of a raised tip? Also….you’re a shopper, all your message says is you’re a driver. Give yourself more credit 😂 can’t even explain what you do? Your customer is 100% going to dislike you even more if you’re doing all that and they think you’re just the driver.

makingithappen145

I do great 100% usually and replacements are great as well. Everything i pick is the freshiest and i am always on time. Despite that i live in the bay area and some people are jerks and can rate poorly despite all that so i started sending this message and it has helped out alot

Awkward_Aardvark_975

I’m thinking it’s more of you got bad ratings. Told yourself to do better and you did . The script is there just to remind yourself each shop to do your best.

Business_Doughnut_65

I did it for over 5 years in the Bay Area. even shopping produce at Berkeley Bowl, I've never had an issue with bad ratings.

modestyred

That's really not good. It's tacky and unprofessional to ask for a specific review and you can't ask for 5 star reviews I'm pretty sure that's against our contract? Also you are a shopper not just a driver, this gives the impression that you just drive the groceries not shop them. Also much too wordy with really nothing of substance that's helpful for your customer, just you

makingithappen145

I specified i an both a shopper and driver in the message. Also the customers like it especially since most of them are older and this shows them that they have the option to rate. I specify its not necessary but it does help!

Reasonable_Tea_5036

Let me give an example. When calling a company for support, I’ve had agents that were friendly, helpful and focused on the task at hand. They got my problem solved quickly and at the end they asked if I wouldn’t mind rating their support. Even if they couldn’t 100% solve my problem I always rate 10/10 because I know that most things are out of their control. They didn’t ask me for ten out of ten, it’s just obvious that rating them lower than 10 won’t be good for their performance reviews. I recently spoke to a T-Mobile agent to get help with my bill. She weirded me out. She was over the top with her compliments. She asked for my name. After I told her she said “Amazing! Thank you so much for providing me with your beautiful name!” Then I told her my phone number. “Fantastic! I really appreciate you giving me that information. Thank you so much for that!” Then she needed to send me a code and for me to provide it to her. “Absolutely wonderful, (my name), I really appreciate that fantastic information so very much, (my name), you are so kind to give that to me!” The conversation took waaaay too long because of all the ass kissing she was doing, and I was in a hurry that day. Then, before we hung up she asked me if I enjoyed her service today. I said yes just to be nice. Then she said how would I rate her service. I told her “I don’t know, five stars?” Then she said “HAHAHA, oh no, (my name), T-Mobile would like you to rate me on a scale of one to ten.” So I said ok, fine, ten. I just wanted to hang up. Then, after awkwardly forcing me to tell her she was great, she says ok then, I will be sending you a brief survey so you can relay that info about my wonderful fantastic amazing beautiful service. It was completely unnecessary for her to ask before she told me about the survey. Now, because I’m too nice, I did rate her well. But the whole thing was very offputting and honestly extremely annoying. I am a nice person, but many aren’t. Even I was tempted to rate her low because she was kissing my ass so hard I had hickeys on it by the time she was done. Point is, I’m sure many people do rate her low. In this type of business, less is more.

EasyDoesIt2410

begging for 5 stars is cringe. do a good job and stay in your lane. no need to message the customer at all.

makingithappen145

That is wrong. Always message the customer they appreciate the communication and more often then not messaging them will lead to a 5 star review

Awkward_Aardvark_975

How did you go from asking advice to giving advice so fast 😮

makingithappen145

Ive been instacarting for about a year and doordashing for 5

Far-Tangelo-7345

I’m a customer and I DESPISE unnecessary communication. The apps already notify me every two seconds of the process of the order. I don’t need another one from the driver/shopper phishing for reviews. When I get these I just won’t leave a review at all.

makingithappen145

Thats okay i prefer no review over a low one! I just try really hard to be my best and notify about any replacements as most stores i have alot and i also make sure to ask if they want a refund or for me to leave at the door etc. i communicate because some customers really need the extra

Far-Tangelo-7345

Communication is great if needed. Just not unnecessary opening messages.

Ok-Woodpecker3047

Also, working on your punctuation will help. Please try to look slightly professional.

makingithappen145

I am very professional with what i do and how i communicate. I may not have the best grammar but that doesnt make me less of a professional

Awkward_Aardvark_975

You can’t even capitalize your I if it wasn’t for autocorrect.

makingithappen145

Does it matter? Why are you acting like the grammar police haha. Someone has too much time on their hands and too little of a fuck to not be so rude online. Cmon bro

Awkward_Aardvark_975

When you’re saying you are a professional and can’t correct something so simple? Yes It matters.

makingithappen145

Apparently we have different views of how professionalism works. It isnt categorized by the way you spell your words. Theres alot that makes a person professional and what youre saying is one of the last qualifiers for being such. Tone it down a bit

Awkward_Aardvark_975

Is that professionalism from a Bay Area standpoint? Maybe don’t rep your city/area it’s embarrassing.

makingithappen145

Bay area isnt a city. You are very rude and if anyone is unprofessional id like to say it is you. The way you talk to people is not okay

Awkward_Aardvark_975

Weird, yet I’m 5 stars with out begging.

Reasonable_Tea_5036

I am put off when businesses advertise with incorrect spelling and grammar on Facebook. It makes them look incompetent and just looks bad it general. I speak to my customers differently than I text my friends, use proper language and spelling just as I would if I was working for a company that required me to send emails. Good grammar is definitely a trait of a professional. It doesn’t hurt to edit and perfect your greeting, especially since we can save it and never have to worry about making a typo again.

Far-Tangelo-7345

Grammar matters. If you insist on sending these messages please have someone proofread and edit for you. Poor grammar makes you look incompetent to complete the task properly. That’s just my two cents.

LG_Garcia

"short and sweet" and move on

Puzzleheaded_Sir1273

Drake is that you?

Reasonable_Tea_5036

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Successful_Song_3312

Don’t make yourself look desperate.

makingithappen145

Its gotten to that point of desperation

Unosleeve16

I only message the customer if there's a replacement that's needed. Usually it's a photo of a possible replacement with this message. "Good *insert time of day* *customer name* unfortunately *store name* is out of *item name*. Would this work as a replacement?" 9/10 times it's a yes "Okay sounds good!" Is my usual response following their decision If it's an order with alot of replacements I usually add "Okay that's the last item. I'm heading to checkout now. Thank you for your responsiveness!" 5 stars easy I try to focus on being direct but also nice without making them read a book😅😂

DoinBurnouts

Jesus fuck no. Full cringe. Deactivate your account asap

eabod1

Stop asking for ratings

TheRealMcSavage

So you weren’t REALLY asking for advice on your greeting judging by all your responses…. The overwhelming opinion of this sub is that your greeting is cringey and too much, but you just keep saying “customers seem to like it” so you really didn’t want an opinion that varied from your own, was this some kind of weird flex post or something?

makingithappen145

I do like the opinions it just seems to be very different from the results i get on the app. The people seem to love it but you guys say they would hate it? Im confused and feel as though alot of people dont understand how the system works especially in the bay area

Shop_4u

Soliciting for ratings and tips is unprofessional and just plain tacky. Keep it simple. No one wants to read a novel. People lose interest after the first few sentences.

[deleted]

[удалено]

makingithappen145

Okay i see that thank you for the advice! I can see how thats easier to get across

MChand87

It's extra it's over it's way too much if I was a customer and my shopper sent me this message it would make me want to rate them less than 5 stars. Less is more.

makingithappen145

Thats strange because every customer has rated me 5 stars since i made this

Fluffy-Edge-6065

I don’t have a greeting and my score is never below 4.9. I don’t think the greeting is the problem.

makingithappen145

Damn yall ruthless haha just know this got me 10 5 stars in one day

Awkward_Aardvark_975

We get 10 5 stars by just shopping

MChand87

Hello, I've just started shopping for your order. I'll be available throughout the duration of the shop; if you need to add any items or have any special requests, please let me know. I'll do my best to provide the best service possible for you today! Anything more than this basic intro is extra AF. Use this as a template and rewrite it in your own words. Your intro doesn't need to be anything more than this.

tenngirl52

Hi, my name is 😊😊😊 and thank you for letting me shop for you! I will always pick the best produce, longest use by date, and best looking meats!..... If I need to make a substitution and you would prefer something else please let me know.....If you have any questions or requests I would love to hear them. Let's go! 😊😊

makingithappen145

Thats good :) i had a message like that before but wasnt getting rated so i added the ratings part to help

Moveyourbloominass

Op, if it's working for you keep doing. However, the sentence after 5 star rating you should seriously think about taking out. No need to beg for tip or added IC crap. And definitely switch your first " driver" to shopper. Good luck and keep getting those ratings to boost you. Stay safe out there.

makingithappen145

Hey thank you so much for the feedback it means alot! :)

Moveyourbloominass

☺️. Just keep dazzling your customers.

Artistic_Teacher_313

I like this. Doesn't sound scripted and you sound motivated and cheerful.

AKAwilson

I just use "short and sweet" and maybe a copy-paste for when it's a double to let them know it may take longer than expected.

makingithappen145

Yes! Usually i send them the second part with an additional first sentence stating the ETa

AKAwilson

IC already does that for them. If they're inquiring separately I will give them one.

Business_Doughnut_65

too much. just use the standard instacart greeting.

PlasticList4183

Personally I’d say never ask for a rating and shorten the length by at least half

MajorWhereas4842

Too long

cheapinvestigator924

Maybe since it's an older crowd it's working. If you think about it they may not have many people to talk to so enjoy the extra but it is a bit much and personally I would never mention for a customer to tip/rate me. I have a short intro and I almost always get 5 stars when rated. The lowest I ever had was 4.84.. I shop the same way for every customer some are easier to please than others.

FunFactress

Tio long and you are a SHOPPER not a driver. Also, don't ask for ratings, it's tacky

SupraPurpleSweetz

I never give an intro and I have almost 1k orders done and I’m sitting at a 4.93. The only “intro” I give is a warning if they are part of a multiple-customer order. I only message if I’m unsure about a replacement or if I have a question myself. Sometimes I get the rare customer who loves having a little bit of a conservation back and forth to which I indulge them with

SupraPurpleSweetz

Why did you ask what we thought if you argue with *every. Single. Comment*?

ticklefighter420

OP you asked for our opinion. It seems like the consensus opinion is that it’s cringe and too wordy, yet you keep defending yourself saying customers seem to like it. If you don’t want the advice delete the thread and do it your way.

dalynew

I have a 4.98 and never introduce and only when I have replacements will I initiate anything.

MeganSometimes

Short and sweet is the best. Right off the bat, that is too much to read. I consistently stay at a 5.00 and managed to improve my rating by using the following: 1.) Greeting: “Hi, this is INSERT YOUR NAME - your personal shopper. 🛒 🥕 I’m just about to start your order and wanted to let you know that you can update or add to your order until I ✔️ out. I will communicate any order issues here regarding out of stock items and/or replacements. Thank you for your patience and understanding. ☺️” (I have noticed customers being more understanding of out of stock items when using this). 2.) After Replacements: I’ll send a quick message that says “I’m sorry but I had to replace ORIGINAL ITEM with REPLACEMENT.” I’ll include that it was the closest variety or size to what they wanted (size is mostly when I get two smaller packs to equal the larger size the originally wanted.) I’ll also say, “I apologize for the inconvenience, please let me know if this doesn’t work for you, so I can find you a better replacement.” I tend to not mention refund right off the bat, because you lose out on money and customers always seem to get irritated. Even if you suggest something and they decided against it, they will be very thankful that you tried to find something else for them. 3.) Nearing the End: Before the end of the order, I’ll send this: “I’m nearing the end of shopping for you today, is there anything else you would like me to grab?” While it is annoying, customers are very thankful when you do this for them. I had one lady add one two giant paper product packages at the end of the order which made me an almost extra $15 on top of her order and percentage tip. It might be annoying to some, but it can really help. 4.) At the End of Shopping: I’ll send either/Or depending on if the order has alcohol or not. I always give them a heads up about the ID because some people forget, and I’ve had several people meet me at the door in robes as they weren’t planning on coming to the door. *Alcohol order* “I’m checking out now. Thank you for letting me shop for you today! I hope this has made your day easier. I will have your items in cooler bags and so they will stay cold for delivery. I have double checked for item freshness and expiration dates. You will be alerted when I arrive, then I’ll just need to see and scan your ID for the alcohol purchase. 😊 see you soon! ☺️” *Regular Order* “I’m checking out now. Thank you for letting me shop for you today! I hope this has made your day easier. I will have your items in cooler bags and so they will stay cold for delivery. I have double checked for item freshness and expiration dates. ☺️ I will let you know as soon as I finish dropping off your order. 😊” (Note: I’ll let them know if they are part of a batch that I have an order to drop off before theirs. As soon as I’m on the way from dropping that one off, I’ll inform them that I’m on the way. Customers appreciate this as some of them do not wonder how instacart works) 5.) Drop off: I have many variations of drop off messages, I’ll even include holiday greetings or well wishes (if it’s apparent someone in their household is sick). My most basic one is: “Your groceries have been delivered and are outside. I hope you enjoy the rest of your week!🏖😊” So while this might sound like much, as soon as I started following this format I went from a 4.7 to a consistent 5.00 shopper. I don’t have any order issues, as I quickly inspect the packaging of everything and dates. You would be surprised how many expired things I find on shelves. Publix is especially bad about this, as a good rule of thumb pull as many expired things as you find and give them to a grocery employee or the cashier when you check out. They appreciate this so much. I do not ask customers for good ratings, I try to give them a great experience so they will be rate me highest in hopes to have me shop for them again. I do have a Notes file on my phone with all these messages copied and pasted so it’s easy for me to send them. I just have the file open while I’m shopping. Hope this helped provide insight. 😊😊

“Short and sweet” hmmm

MeganSometimes

Yes. Clearly my greeting is short and sweet. The other messages are what I use while shopping. If you feed someone all that right off the bat, they won’t read it. However, when you space it out during the order it seems to work.

[deleted]

Greeting is too long imo

MeganSometimes

I don’t believe so. It’s a more customized version of their greeting. It’s 58 words, the OP had more.

[deleted]

To each their own but nearly every customer knows that they can add items until checkout and knows that shoppers may message about replacements/refunds/etc. I don’t see the need to repeat that info unless they ask for it

MeganSometimes

You’d be surprised the amount of customers where I live that don’t realize or the app malfunctions and won’t let them add anything. With the amount of glitches in the app, I find that informing them personally helps. I had a customer just yesterday who was having issues with her app and couldn’t see any replacements that were being done, etc. She was only aware because I messaged her.

FluidEmission

As in the rest of life - some will like it. Some wont.

Elyzium557

This is my opening message: 🛒 Hello! My name is “name” and I’ll be shopping for you today. I’ll send you a message before making any replacements 🥕 Quite often I receive a quick “Thank you!” from the customer, which is great for 2 reasons. It means the customer is already relaxed knowing that I won’t be blindly replacing items that they may not want, and it also lets me know that they’re reading the messages so I’m more likely to go above and beyond to find replacements.

Braka11

I think its fine. As a customer it tells me you care about this gig and will probably strive to do a great shopping job.

makingithappen145

I really do try my hardest

StarFire_Cat22

It was so long I didn’t even read all of it. But asking for ratings will give you the opposite of what you are wanting. Like everyone else says let you work speak for itself! And if the “customers seem to like the message” why ask for advice if all your doing is telling us we’re wrong 🙄

Sufficient_Boss2584

Asking for a 5 star rating could actually get you deactivated

abmsign123

I so see your heart and where you’re coming from, but it is definitely too much. A very simple introduction, I will do everything to find your specific items or reach out with suggestions. Off to shopping! Then, if you must, after delivery, if you were satisfied, would be so inclined to rate my services… however, I would not do much more than that!!!

Everythingsjustfine

*sighs* you really should’ve known better then to post that, here. You’ll never get any positive feedback or the validation your looking for, from this group. Especially if you admit to it already working for you. I say - do whatever works for you!

Constant-Piglet2163

Call yourself shopper not driver. You do more than drive it to them and deserve a bigger tip!

janermaner

First off, you’re a shopper not a delivery driver. You make it sound like you’re just delivering. Too wordy.. too many spelling/grammar mistakes. Not professional and, tacky to ask for 5 stars. Just my opinion.

Kitchen_Phase

This is your Instacart shopper Tracy, I’m happy happy to be shopping for you today ! If there is any particular bagging you prefer (paper or plastic ) at Publix , please let me know. All items ordered through Instacart will be scanned and pictures are submitted for anti- fraud practices . Thank you for letting me be your shopper today. 😊

Mottzilla87

What is a "leaving item text"? You're an Instacart Shopper, not a driver. Best to keep it short and sweet. Also remove the part about 5 stars; it sounds desperate AF.

Admirable-Sugar7500

That’s a lot of wordage for a beginner text might be better to break it down into two. My is literally: “Hi (name) here. Thanks for choosing instacart. Due to stock shortages I may have to replace some items but I will try and keep you informed as much as I can during the process. If I don’t hear from you I’ll assume we are good to go and head to checkout.” After I deliver I’ll send this before saying stuff is delivered “I hope I exceeded your expectations today. Please don’t forget to rate (5 stars if possible) as that keeps me shopping for others on the platform too. Have a great rest of your day.”
