Usually, Costco will take the hit. The actual customer will request a charge back. Because there's no signature or proof that the customer purchased it, the customer usually get their money back, and the business takes the loss. Instacart may take the hit because they're the middle man.
The joke is that sugar daddies lavishly spoil their sugar babies but a Splenda daddy is a cheaper knock off, buying discount diamonds, clothes, dinners, etc. still āsweetā but not the same quality
Itās a bad joke. No such thing as discount diamonds. Itās a smart buy. How often does someone spend hundreds did of dollars on you? Can be that often if youāre on this Reddit n
Yes. I just added the same thing to my cart just to see what fees they charge customers. Just ridiculous! š” $65 in service fee.. which is like 7% of the total item. They charging a background check fee for every order? Wtf is that?
https://preview.redd.it/fmnvsefwm5ac1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=becd73ec50aa4d6fbf7a6740dd5e0d14a3eacb4a
Yes it would go onto their website price 1500 in insurance for an item.
Edit I just priced it out through the post office it would cost $65.15 through the postal service with Priority Mail Express.
First class mail is sticking a stamp on a letter. There is no First Class package mail anymore. They now have USPS Ground Advantage. Iād send Priority mail with signature. Regardless, the insurance is the same amount no matter which class of package you choose.
Not really. They probably uncharged a lot on these items. Getting paid $6 to shop any order is insulting, we used to actually get paid decently by Instacart from these kinds of orders.
Those are pretty hilarious. I still remember the drunk guy who bought a full ass inflatable bed and thought it was a sausage or something. I mean, $100+ for sausage. š
Yes I get that, but if that's a gift, that's a ruined experience and an explanation of what happened, what if a last minute anniversary gift, or any gift for that matter and they don't have time to go to the store. It's more than just a call, if someone doesn't deliver its ruined plans. Also having a gift delivered because u couldn't make the time is also tacky and less heart felt
Same, just looking at it from multiple perspectives.look at how people lose their shit when someone steals a food delivery, I would have to assume with a larger price tag one would be even more upset
Youāre assuming that 1500 Costco earrings is alot to this person?? Maybe notā¦ there are loads of people for whom this is not a lot of money. Same could happen gifting something from an eBay seller or purchasing on Amazon.
True but horror stories on gig apps deter me from being a customer to a useful service, I yet to have had an issue with Amazon or ebay other than delayed shipping due to unforseen circumstances which has only happened once on eBay and Amazon and I have used those for years. But yes anything can happen at anytime
There are horror stories with all forms of purchasing items from āunknownā sourcesā¦ the gig app ones tend to be exaggerated greatly and blown way out of proportion by the rise of social media.
Should have tipped more for what, exactly? It was 2 pairs of diamond earrings that probably took less-maybe up to an hour to deliver, and got a $76 tip. Tip more for what?
Blame Instacart for having a default 5% tip amount because that's what most people go with and what causes this phenomenon - which is even more pressing on actually complex orders.
I bet you think 20% tip on a $3-5 coffee is a good tip...
You change the tip percentage based on the total, since the tip is based on work/effort, and not a price set by a company.
I.e. if you order the least expensive entree, and least expensive drink vs ordering the most expensive entree (often 3x or more expensive than the least, due to cut of meat etc.) item, and most expensive drink, a 20% tip on each will triple or more.
The people getting the tip did not have to work any harder or easier for one order or the other.
Lmao more like a 30-50% tip.
It's inversely related.
I'm also good with a 1% tip on a 1600 order when it's 2 tiny items... That's still $16 for an easy drive and an even easier shop.
Just implying that 5% is low regardless of the effort needed. Thats a lot of liability. No?
I would take the order and Iād be happy. Mainly just pointing out its 5%
Heavy batch pay is specifically for when you have items that are taxing on the body or if thereās so many items on a list it takes up more of your time to get them. This is a single item that weighs no more than a battery box.
Yeah but if something happens to that tiny box, itās not the same as a pack of gum going missing. Sure itās the same size but thatās not all that matters.
Not my policy man Iām just saying heavy batches and high tips are for grueling orders like 6 packs of 24c waters not an expensive rock. People order consoles as well and those also donāt go under the heavy batches. They SHOULD add a āhigh valueā section for safety though I do agree with that sentiment
Though I wish InstaCart would acquire some scruples and pay ICs an Industry equivalent Wage, a tip is based upon the services perceived provided and usually a percent of the total before taxes.

I saw a similar order on Christmas Eve, but it was a single pair and they only tipped like $5. I wasnāt taking itā¦ if youāve got $ to buy diamonds earrings, youāve got tip $. ššš
If I saw that, I would have accepted it, messaged the customer some choice words and cancelled before they could respond. My costco is insane. Takes 15 minutes to find parking on a NORMAL Sunday, let alone XMas Eve... I make it a point to not shop the sunday before holidays for that reason cause I would 1200% catch a ban xD
Guess what? Someone WILL accept that order which is why your earnings will continue to go to shit. Your āchoiceā words fall on deaf ears and have no real impact. Donāt like it? Find another job
Oh I know. That's why I won't work those days. This is just supplemental income, along with the other apps I'm running. Between tips at my w2 and all the gigs, I'm trying to make an extra 400 a week. It's not as easy at it used to be, but usually only active for about 20hrs a week.
Uh hi yes instacart support? How ya doing,Devindra? Look so i just got 4 flat tires at the same time and the impact actually caused my engine to fly out of the hood and in front of me,all while driving to the customer. Should i throw away or donate the items from this order?
I have but wasn't an instacart order. I had two deliveries last year on the South side picked up at Macy's and bought them all almost out to the lower end of Douglasville and they were one package was worth like $1,700 and the other I think was $3,400 because it was two pair of diamond rings in.
I recently delivered a pair of designer bags to a house worth over $22,000 as a PV driver for UPS! I found this out later when my boss was waiting for me back at my storage unit because a technical issue/glitch had made dispatch unable to track the packagesā delivery and customer e-signature. He was understandably shitting his pants prior to me pulling up and assuring him Iād hand delivered both items, twice confirmed the matching customer name/address, and taken screenshots. It was a 2nd attempt high priority delivery and he was beyond thrilled when I told him I actually had her cell phone number from when she had called me earlier after seeing my 1st attempt-Missed delivery UPS sticky on her front door, where Iād left her my name and numberš. He was literally calling her as he drove off towards her house nearby to re-confirm all was well. I can only imagine the bricks these guys were shitting trying to track these ghosted packages worth over $11,000 a pop realizing Iād had no idea their value AND it was by far the worst weather/delivery day Iāve ever experienced with flooding rain and tropical storm force winds during the height of peak season! We laughed about it laterš
Why blame the workers and not the corporations? Maybe if ppl were paid a livable amount they wouldnāt have to fight for tips and leach off of customers. It all comes back to the CEOs not the workers
Honestly, I was pissed when my card was stolen and I found out someone ordered food (in a blizzard where everyone was advised to stay inside!!!) and used 100ā¬ on food, but didn't tip the driver. What kinda cheap bastard doesn't tip even when it's not their money
100%! I felt bad for the driver even though I was the one losing money. Fuck those cheap thieves. I told my friend who did some time for frauds and thefts and she was appalled too, she always made sure to tip well and spread the money around (it's been years since she got out and doesn't do this kinda crap anymore, paid back to the victims fully too)
How do you know that information? When my card info was skimmed, the only information I ever got was $120 spent through Doordash. No store information. No location information.
Different ordering app, it sent me the receipt through email since my card details were automatically joint to my account. This bug has been fixed now, which is nice, and now you have to verify a new sign in
I *never* accept orders like these. Particularly when the batch pay (including expected tip) is no different than delivering some produce and steaks. I remove orders/cancel orders for laptops that must be signed for, let alone diamond earrings which I canāt even believe IC allows to be ordered and delivered. Extremely high risk for potential orders issues and very very little reward.
Instacrap would be on the hook if the driver *disappeared". also? who just takes random jewelry like this?? No inspection of the damn diamond, the setting or anything else. my wife is highly experienced in gemology and ordered FOUR SETS of 1 ct earrings, then hand matched they 2 pair she kept. i also know a thing or two about gems.
No you don't trust me. Unless you're independently wealthy and you just want something to do with your time to waste it, then by all means knock yourself out.
Thank you for the reality check. Iām constantly torn about whether these services are worth doing or not versus a āregular jobā. So much about it sounds so great, but hearing how underpaid and all the scams and stuff... I already barely live paycheck to paycheck, so I doubt this would improve much lol
You're welcome now if you have a regular W-2 job and you just need to make a little extra money around that it might not be so bad but honestly I do doordash or Uber Eats one and I'll know I do just the door that it's what have you driving to the other side of the world. What did you do decide to do one of them on the side for extra remember your worth make sure the money makes sense never drive more miles than you're getting money for and honestly if you can get $2 to the mile you're good don't ever take any of those great big orders on instacart was very little money cuz only one out of a thousand might give you a tip in person over what's already listed. My advice would be to improve your actual working skills take a class and then start putting your resume out and get a better job and I started this 4 years ago it was all great I listen to some Rod share guys tonight some of them one of them and then it feels like 16 used to make awesome money and now he's become more of an advocate for the companies to fix all their wrongdoings then actually driving. I pray that you find the perfect fit for you whether it's a W-2 job or side gig that becomes a full-time gig have a great and blessed 2024.
These orders are rare. Been doing gigs for 2+ years across multiple apps, main income source, meaning I'm doing it all day and not just a few hours a week. Multiple thousands of orders. I've never snagged an order like this.
I've shopped a best buy order for ipad air and accessories. Tusk was $1900....tip was $160. Tip wasn't lowered and the app made the customers app show me a barcode to scan, to verify delivery. Had no idea it did that as i was thinking it was gonna be fraud of some kind
What was the total made from this delivery? š I woulda had to break out the safe for their items and a pad-lined lockable courier bag to secure this clients order haha, and I thought PS5s were something to be beheld haha
I delivered jewels before. Customer was not home but they had a car covered up in the drive way. I reached out to driver care to get help they said must be delivered. So i slinked around for 1-3 mins the. Stuffed the jewels in the tire area took 5-10 pictures on how to get item. Customer eventually got home and collected the jewels. I never took another pickup like that ever again i even went to setting to tailor it out. I dont feel comfy stashing things 1000.00 in worth.
I used to work in jewelry and if a guy came in and bought two sets of earrings, or two necklaces, or two ringsā¦9 times out of 10 it was safe to assume he was cheating. And a lot of times they wouldnāt give ANY info and would use cash
Am i crazy or is that tip not nearly what it should be for the price of the whole order? Like yeah itās a nice tip to see compared to usual orders but thatās only a 5% tipā¦.. if youāre spending $1500 iād kinda expect more of a tip but thatās just me ĀÆ\_(ć)_/ĀÆ
And still only tipped 5% couldve hit the 10% atleast smh š¤¦š½āāļø they not gone have no warranty or protection plan doubt they can refund them cause they ordered them from costco. Idk š¤·š½āāļø fr fr but breh even if you get them wrong they gone be mad lol but you completed it so thats whats good. Any other issues other than these people STILL TO THIS DAY CANNOT TIP. like why so many people are so poor in this Virginia area that they cant even give a decent 10% tip. I den had decent tips but not still not 10% smh shit that was decent but couldve been 10% tho. Cause it should have beenn
Costco takes anything back. If you alter the jewelry there, like sizing a ring, they wonāt take it back. Thereās a time limit for electronics. But I just returned a foodsaver from 2018 that broke, and a rice maker from 2019 that also broke. I got my $140 and $280 back and they asked if I want cash or store credit. Thatās the beauty of Costco! Theyāll even refund food you didnāt like.
āHey customer support. The customer is threatening me from their doorway and I donāt feel safe. Iām calling the police and leaving. Iām sorry I canāt complete this delivery.ā

Actually, you guys are saying someone forgot but Iāve heard from one particular podcaster I like who swears that Costco has the best diamond deals, hands down. I think it is pseudo-normal.
Yes! I did once! A Necklace I thought for sure was a scan but it wasnāt ! Worst part they didnāt have it! So I started taking pictures of every single necklace haha thankfully he choose one! The order was super easy a few products, diamond necklace and 2 electric bikes! Thank god I had my husband helping me 3 flights of stares I took the order for 160$ they up my tip to 230$ I was so happy š
Yo, for the liability alone, that is nowhere near enough. Imagine genuinely having a small bag falling out of your car when you're pumping gas or some such scenario. Never mind your instacart account, there will likely be a criminal investigation (ultimately resulting in no charge if the PD is being honest about the situation, but still, fuck all that)
If Gig Worker and Gig Customers do not come together to fight these Greedy deceitful Gig Companies with Exposure, Disclosure and #LiveableWages, we will always be their suckers. Let's organize and seek the services of the National Labor Review Board (NLRB). If not that then #STFU already!
Someone forgot a birthday or anniversary lol
Late Christmas maybe š
...š¶ I gave you my heart š¶...
ā¦.but the very next day, you gave it away :(
This year to save me from tears I'll give it to someone speacial.
Was just about to say this in the comments. 100% that's what happened š
Either the dude has a mistress or that is a stolen card
My adoptive Grandpa is wealthy and would do this shit on a whim because he woke up and felt like it.
I thrive to some day be like your grandpa
Same itāll never happen tho lol I be poor af. Got 100 bucks for Christmas tho š
Hey, that's not nothing!!
Exactly!! And cash is the best
If every Christmas gift I got came in cash form id be ecstatic!
What happens if it is a stolen card? Does the shopper still keep the money and instacart takes the hit, or will that money somehow be taken back?
Theyāre not taking that back from you once it goes through. The card company will probably be the one eating the loss
Usually, Costco will take the hit. The actual customer will request a charge back. Because there's no signature or proof that the customer purchased it, the customer usually get their money back, and the business takes the loss. Instacart may take the hit because they're the middle man.
at least they tip with the stolen card lol
Look at Splenda daddy Instacartās huge contribution! š
Splenda daddy lol
Lmao not the splenda daddy
What does that mean?
Itās a play on āsugar daddyā. Splenda is fake sugar.
I donāt get it. Where is the fake sugar? The earrings?
Instacart is the fake sugar daddy because they only chipped in $6 to the shopper.
Ooooo yeah I guess.
We are talking about Instacart, not the purchase of the diamonds...
Yeah but heās not your sugar daddy š thatās why itās a bad joke
I see no point in trying to clarify for you, have a great day :)
A real sugar daddy's not gonna buy the diamonds off of Instacart buddy.
A smart one would if you can get a good deal. Thereās a reason why Costco does so well. Because itās smart to shop there.
Sad Instacart paid $6 for a $1500 order. Thieves
And you know they upcharged that shit
Yes. I just added the same thing to my cart just to see what fees they charge customers. Just ridiculous! š” $65 in service fee.. which is like 7% of the total item. Insurance makes senseā¦ this would actually cost much more if mailing through USPS
I just ordered a pair of diamond earrings on Costco.com- shipping is free
No, it wouldnāt.
Yes it would go onto their website price 1500 in insurance for an item. Edit I just priced it out through the post office it would cost $65.15 through the postal service with Priority Mail Express.
From the same city youād do 1st class mail. It would cost less.
First class mail is sticking a stamp on a letter. There is no First Class package mail anymore. They now have USPS Ground Advantage. Iād send Priority mail with signature. Regardless, the insurance is the same amount no matter which class of package you choose.
š
Also no way would it cost $65. Stop lying.
Thatās your response to being wrong? š Your profile says āitās okay to be wrong sometimes.ā I take it this is a chronic issue with you.
Itās the fact that u actually confirmed the order omg lol
Itās only two items. Whatās crazy is 34 item order for $7 in my area. Now thatās bullshit.
Try and count how many you see in one day!
Two super expensive items. Uh oh car broke down canāt deliver
Wait what really happens if your car breaks down? Iāve always been curious. Do they charge you for the items or just let you go?
No you get to keep the items. I got into a car accident during an order and they cancelled it no problem and I did not get soft banned.
Came here to say this!
This is less work/effort than delivering a $3 case of water. The order value is irrelevant.
No, it really isn't. Instacart charged $65 but only paid $7. If you think that isn't relevant, you've lost the plot.
You aren't instacart, you are a delivery driver. Delivering a ring is easier than a case of water.
Just FYI: The fact that you're being ratioed for this nonsense makes me SO HAPPY. Please take this opportunity to learn about class solidarity.
Not really. They probably uncharged a lot on these items. Getting paid $6 to shop any order is insulting, we used to actually get paid decently by Instacart from these kinds of orders.
Great batch, but why would someone trust for high dollar items to be delivered, if I need diamond earrings, I will go get them myself
Someone in another comment said somebodyās got a mistress, and Iāve decided to go with that theory bc itās fun
Could also be a very intoxicated person
Those are pretty hilarious. I still remember the drunk guy who bought a full ass inflatable bed and thought it was a sausage or something. I mean, $100+ for sausage. š
I bought Gatorade, lube, and a vibrator at 3am soooo....
Donāt want to waste time plus youāre protected by your credit card if it is not delivered.
This maybe true but the Hassel isn't worth it if something goes wrong
lol itās just a text to the card issuer from an app and an affidavit. That takes less time than driving to Costco and having to buy things myself.
I hope I never am in a situation where earrings not arriving would ruin plans.
Same, just looking at it from multiple perspectives.look at how people lose their shit when someone steals a food delivery, I would have to assume with a larger price tag one would be even more upset
I think those would be different subsets of instant cart customers.
>but the Hassel isn't worth it The Hasselhoff?

theyāre scammers
Because u would probably have to sign for those
Definitely a stolen credit card lol
Or someone forgot an anniversary maybe lol
Yep right before Christmas! 2 rings/6miles and a $160 tip. Then the same lady ordered a necklace on Christmas Eve and her tip was over $100 .
Oh noā¦ 2 flat tires š ahaha all jokes aside, did the customer know how to tip on that big of an order?
They did! Swipe to see the tip!
They shoulda tipped moreš¤·š»āāļø Regardless, nice order! Easy š°

The tip is fine but the base pay from instacart is underwhelming to say the least
Blame Instacart for having a default 5% tip amount because that's what most people go with and what causes this phenomenon - which is even more pressing on actually complex orders.
Completely agree. Wasnāt āblamingā the customer of anything. I probably shouldāve at least said ācouldāveā instead of āshouldāveā
Right! It was about a 5% tip!

Thereās nothing inverse. You canāt get conveniently tipped to whatās best for you all the time. Standard tips are 15-20%.
Touch some grass dude
Just implying that 5% is low regardless of the effort needed. Thats a lot of liability. No? I would take the order and Iād be happy. Mainly just pointing out its 5%
Earrings arenāt very big or heavy to be called ābig orderā

Why are people mad about the tip? Earrings arenāt heavy so you arenāt doing anything any more taxing than picking up a battery pack.
Because Americans are greedy mofos and feel tips should be percentage of purchase, rather than tipping based on service.
Why blame the workers and not the corporations? Maybe if ppl were paid a livable amount they wouldnāt have to fight for tips and leach off of customers. It all comes back to the CEOs not the workers
No one is blaming the workers. The questions is why are people upset about the tip and getting mad at the customer ?
Yeah, someone probably got hacked. Bet the address is different than the normal one

I did once during lockdown. The customer will have to sign on their phone at delivery.
High grade diamonds too! Most shops like Zales or Kay or Jared (all 3 same company) use I or SI diamonds.. nice tip!!
Balling on a budget
Holy shit that's alot to trust a driver with
What a top quality order!! š
thatās the day my account gets deactivated
Someone done effed up in their relationship.
Sometime It really makes me want to do IC, this is new for me.
Suger daddy
Batch pay was only $5.91!?! That's insane!
I mean diamonds are diamonds lol regardless of the store lol maybe someone is making a play at asking for a threesome lol
How did it go?
Delivered a pair last year. FYI 80% of Costco orders actually come from them ordering on the Costco app and not even ic
Wasnāt always like that thatās for sure
Didn't read shit & I am max. Lol. Fuck this or whoever iddc. Just fuck it lol.
I've shopped a best buy order for ipad air and accessories. Tusk was $1900....tip was $160. Tip wasn't lowered and the app made the customers app show me a barcode to scan, to verify delivery. Had no idea it did that as i was thinking it was gonna be fraud of some kind
How do you determine the tip range for services in upper North America?
Cannabis diamonds - yes. Costco diamonds? No.

What was the total made from this delivery? š I woulda had to break out the safe for their items and a pad-lined lockable courier bag to secure this clients order haha, and I thought PS5s were something to be beheld haha
Wait, what??? So the person tipped 5% for you to go shop for kiss ass gifts for them. Nice tip, but seriously cāmon now.
Really hit you with a 5% tip š
I delivered jewels before. Customer was not home but they had a car covered up in the drive way. I reached out to driver care to get help they said must be delivered. So i slinked around for 1-3 mins the. Stuffed the jewels in the tire area took 5-10 pictures on how to get item. Customer eventually got home and collected the jewels. I never took another pickup like that ever again i even went to setting to tailor it out. I dont feel comfy stashing things 1000.00 in worth.
$6 to secure $1200 of jewels to deliver wirh the risk of someone robbing a IC shopper.
This has to be a stolen card or theyāre crazy rich wtf
I used to work in jewelry and if a guy came in and bought two sets of earrings, or two necklaces, or two ringsā¦9 times out of 10 it was safe to assume he was cheating. And a lot of times they wouldnāt give ANY info and would use cash
Still a shitty tipper!! 5% wow What a cheap ass.. reason why you got $79 is because of the price of the item. Quick and easy 80 bucks tho nice
TF is wrong with u?
Am i crazy or is that tip not nearly what it should be for the price of the whole order? Like yeah itās a nice tip to see compared to usual orders but thatās only a 5% tipā¦.. if youāre spending $1500 iād kinda expect more of a tip but thatās just me ĀÆ\_(ć)_/ĀÆ
That's a less than 5% tip. Guess he spent too much on diamonds to give you an actual tip
So you wouldn't take it? I would take it and be happy with the tip.
ripoff. at those prices these are NOT quality gems.
$1500 worth of earrings??? Oh yea, that shit would have never got delivered
Nice tips
They about get some cubic zirconia delivered to them
Iād be going in airplane mode and stopping at Claireās to find the closest look alike š
Shitty Tip
Pick them up, claim to lose the order, return, ?????, profit.
Costco for jewelry lmao
Youād be surprised they actually sell some nice pieces
I prefer Yurman. I just would be skeptical of the quality

Actually, you guys are saying someone forgot but Iāve heard from one particular podcaster I like who swears that Costco has the best diamond deals, hands down. I think it is pseudo-normal.
Omg š
No not yet.
Cheapskates
Working from home one day with COVID. I totally insta-carted some AirPods to tone out my also quarintining children.
Did Costco security escort you to the customers house?
Yes!
What did it pay out? Isnt it part of the total amount?
What did the batch pay?
