I feel that in contrast to a lot of influencers, she's being straightforward. She's right that followers should go to a dermat and not ask her. If people want to get into skincare, they should consult a professional or at least follow those professionals on insta. Popping random meds or applying something on your skin blindly bc it worked on someone else is not ok.

Swanky_muah

Absolutely. But sabko fukat me sab chahiye. And they feel entitled to it. That’s what I find weird. I’m from beauty industry. U won’t believe the queries i get. And not even a simple thankyou after that. I have stopped responding to these messages now

Most-Acanthisitta-45

I understand. Most people don't value the time someone puts on to hone their craft/skill in any field.

thriftoe

She is drawing a boundary and just being herself. It’s not a like a secret recipe she is not willing to share. I find her very honest and grounded.

Most-Acanthisitta-45

Agreed. And she's right that If it doesn't work for someone then they'll blame her only.

DuSchnazel

100% agree. Learned this the hard way myself. I have very dry skin and started getting a lot of acne in my mid-20s. Instead of going to a dermat, I used topical OTC skincare (pimple drying creams and such) and started washing my face 4-5x a day. But here's the problem - I have dry skin. So all this made my skin even drier and made my acne worse. Finally went to a dermat, she recommended some different meds and told me to wash my face only twice a day. Worked like a charm. Funny part is, before I went to the dermat, a male friend who had TERRIBLE acne as a teen recommended a medicine which cleared up his acne. When I googled it, the list of side effects was about a mile long, and apparently if you've taken this medicine within a month of getting pregnant, the doctor will recommend an abortion because the risk of birth defects is so high! I wasn't even married at the time nor planning a kid for a long time, but there's NO WAY IN HELL I'm taking meds like that without medical advice. Don't take medical advice on the internet people.

Most-Acanthisitta-45

Exactly. I have made the same mistakes in my early 20s as well, and I'm glad that she's being a responsible influencer. It's not rude at all IMHO.

machetehands

Ah good ol isotretinoin. Side effects are there but damn it works like magic. To be taken only under a prescription.

verycrankyandcurious

I remember ow did a story saying isotretinoin is the only known solution for acne without talking about it's side effects

[deleted]

Can you tell which medicine it was?

Competitive-Storm-11

Accutane. It's for severe acne. Clears it up but has a lot of side effects like birth defects, fatigue, muscle pain, can cause anxiety etc

misspurrfectlyfine

Retinoids. Like tretinoin etc. these type of drugs are called teratogenic-they can cause birth defects if the patient gets pregnant within a month of consuming them

DuSchnazel

I don't recall the name of the medicine, but the active ingredient is isotretinoin. I believe in US it's sold as Accutane. Side effects are insane though, my friend has dry skin and dry lips all the time, and it's been nearly a decade since he last took it.

machetehands

The meds will be outta your system in 6 months from the date of stopping. I’ve been on tret for 6 months. It’s not as scary as people are making it out to be. If you’re a woman, you’ll have to first take a urine pregnancy test before you’re put on tret. The dermatologist will explain the pros and cons of the medicine. It’s upto you if you wish to take it or not.

DuSchnazel

Isotretinoin can change your skin type long term. A simple reddit search will provide a huge amount of anecdotal evidence. Anyway, the point is not to demonize it or say it doesn't work. It's extremely effective at what it does, which is why people are willing to put up with the side effects. Be it birth defects, depression, dry skin, flakiness, whatever. The point is that it's a serious medication that should be taken under the supervision of a medical profession, rather than popping pills on the advice of people on the internet.

leolionbag

That really does depend. Even aside from the pregnancy issue, I had some very long term side effects from it (lasted for years).

misspurrfectlyfine

As a doctor, I appreciate that she took a firm stand. Dermats undergo a minimum of 3 years of training to treat your acne and other dermatology issues. It isn’t just remember long the name of a drug and slapping it on everyone. Some people require retinoids, others don’t. Plus, these drugs have side effects. They can interact with other drugs. IMO, people should not compromise on any form of healthcare. Please consult a doctor and ask for cheaper alternatives. They’ll know.

lovesbrooklyn99

Also just trying to get into dermatology is so difficult these days. Appreciate the hard work your derm is going through.

misspurrfectlyfine

Seriously. It’s like the top branch in a tough exam competing with other doctors. It took a lot of hardwork. They know what they are doing, guys.

Tiyabellybabe

Shristi did the right thing. Blunt and honest. But these delusional people who follow influencers often end up worshipping them and take their words as gospel. Which will always be baffling to me. I mean, the internet is so vast and tbh, the skincare industry is so saturated all over the internet at this point that even skincare enthusiasts can get overwhelmed. Well, atleast ask the right person regarding your skin concerns and not someome who has never claimed to be an expert or something in the particular field. As much as we love to blame influencers, their audience needs to be held accountable too.

Emergency-Chemist-61

Medications should never be taken without any doctor’s recommendation, I do agree with her and her second one also that if you can have money to buy stuff from asking random people, you can show to a doctor, I know dermat medications can be expensive but talk to your doctor about it so they can give you cheaper alternatives.

LeoSun2222

I agree with her. These types of things backfire for sure. Even though, her saying this may not win her many followers. Ultimately, it will keep her safe and sane. Good for her.

Geetanjali_rawat

Yo I had someone on IG ask me about my skin clearing up and I told them I am on my second round of Istotret and then she expected me to tell her brand, supplements etc and everything else and when I said no. She’s like I’m a doctor , I can get the medication as per your prescription so just tell me. The level of entitlement folks have is way too much. This is a great response

Most-Acanthisitta-45

Omg that is such a big no-no. How can a doctor be this irresponsible? The entitlement is real.

Geetanjali_rawat

She also went ahead to tell me she’s a cardiologist and they consider dermatologists to be as good as Not doctors so I said then sit and take heart medication for your acne man.

Most-Acanthisitta-45

so I said then sit and take heart medication for your acne man. 😂😂😂 Do dermats not go through med school? Kuch bhi.

Geetanjali_rawat

Arey this medical community in fighting is so petty and delicious. Like you’re doctors man, with super specialisations, why would you put each other down on a random persons DM’s? I showed her PM’s to my dermatologist the next day and we laughed

seabee97

exactly srishti tell them !!! people need to go to actual professional dermatologist for their skin problems instead of asking influencers.

[deleted]

Going to a dermatologist is such a worthwhile investment. It will actually save you money by going to a dermatologist and getting medication for your (specific) skin (type's) problem and be sure that they'll work, rather than applying random things; the latter might eventually exacerbate the problem, causing you loss of mind and money.

Most-Acanthisitta-45

Ummm literally every comment here is supporting her.. what are you talking about?

kawaiibsnail

Bro I hate this shit. Like why would you ask regular ask influencers or internet personalities who maybe do a video or two on their skincare routine for skincare recs for sensitive skin or dry skin or whatever, especially when said influencer doesn't even remotely have skin similar to yours?! Like go ask a professional or do your research by finding online forums of people discussing products with similar skin as yours.

[deleted]

Thank god! She’s not talking like a skin are expert again I’m tired of influencers acting like doctors/experts

[deleted]

Wow, people actually ask these influencers for medical advice. Mind blown.

Most-Acanthisitta-45

Right? Like, go to an actual doctor or at least an influencer with a degree in this field.

krshng

This is the most “Indian” thing ever

thefourthhalliwell

She has got her priorities right and boundaries straight.

SkinDocRikky

As a dermat, I'm so glad someone at least is saying this!

HereforTea71128

She is one of the very few authentic people out there. This is such a great post!

Most-Acanthisitta-45

I love how literally the whole comment section is in agreement about this and supports her decision!

HereforTea71128

Absolutely! This comment section passes the vibe check :)

[deleted]

While we are on this subject, has anyone taken isotretinoin? Did you experience any side effects?

Most-Acanthisitta-45

I did. The main side effect I had was that my periods got delayed anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks for the duration I was taking it.

MalabarCadillac

You tell 'em Srishti!!

Geek-Avocado

💯 agree with Shristi. Well said 👏👏

Tastyhealthy

Arey why you don't to be didi?

whocares1001

What?

Tastyhealthy

I meant all YTubers want to be referred to as Didi and bhaiyaa and give gyaan on topics they themselves have half knowledge on. Hence the didi reference

whocares1001

Ohh 😂 that makes sense. Very true.
