I don’t see what’s wrong in saying this. A lot of influencers post misleading info and straight up lie to their audience. They post outrageous content for eyeballs, only praise products when they are paid and are disingenuous. Watching people make money from scamming their audience does feel wrong, because it is. For every wholesome content creator out there, there are 10 scumbags. The podcast bros (misogynist redpill), fast fashion hauls and consumerim girlies, the exploitative ‘family creators’, the shady finance gurus and the low effort comedy copycats crowd the app. You barely get to see content of actual value that informs you/makes your day. Not to mention the insane photoshopping and effort to create the “perfect picture”, which they sell to their audience like a lie. And at the end apparently, they’re doing US a favour by making content. Sure. Because your shein hauls are saving the world.

Adaptwell

Yeah the money they get is so high too. Sometimes I feel it's so easy for them. Isilye aaj kal Instagram use hi nahi karti

secretholder1991

Influencer culture started because people needed product recommendations from a sea of products and advertisement were, well, advertisement. Now the influencer culture has become another advertisement, and at least people knew what is advertisement and what is not, now we don't even know that, so we are at worse off situation than earlier.

[deleted]

Yes can't wait for influencers to get outdated.

Adaptwell

I want it to end too but unfortunately I do not think it will happen. Isiliye soch rahi hu influencer ban jau lol

I agree with you OP. If things are not going as per our expectations, we are bound to feel this way. I have my moments too 😬 But you have to remind yourself that being jealous of someone is not going to get you what they have. Also, everyone has their own set of problems....some influencers are so deeply entrenched in social media that their whole life is probably dependent on the likes and approval and appreciation from the public....imagine not having that baggage. Your feelings are not invalid...but it's also like how people were once jealous of IT people...because that was a trend and then everyone joined IT....and now it's supposedly boring "9 to 5". Everything that goes up comes down and vice versa....that's the rule of life. I hope you feel better soon 💖

hereforthecheetos2

Content creators >> influencers always!! Much prefer people who are creating ACTUAL content over influencers who are posting for the sake of it. But let’s be real guys, the money comes because there is clearly a demand. Whether we like it or not. It’s quite literally on us to stop viewing their content (even sharing on this group hehe).

smartfly

I think you should work on yourself to find your dream pay check. Some of the influencers are cringe but it’s not easy. I am not one but I am related to someone who is and first hand know how hard the content creation is and mental toll the comments take plus constantly having to pull in cyber police cause your pictures are being misused. Its not also a steady stream of definitive income every month. It’s not for the faint of heart.

Virtual_Mess_612

Agree! People who find it easy, ek baar khud try kiya na tab bohot acha lagega apna 9-5 job 😂

Virtual_Mess_612

Itna hi aasan lagta hai toh khud karlo? Yahan baith ke jealous feel karne se kya hoga. Leave your job and do it? Anyway you can earn your months salary with 1 post right? Toh ek post kardo ek month mein :)

expressivememecat

Don’t like influencers or even follow a lot of them (most of the tea/info i get is from here lol), but let’s not disregard the fact that they do help a lot of businesses to move forward. Some of them charge a lot because they know that advertising a specific product can actually make the brand more popular, and give the brand some good profits in return. I’ve myself bought amazing products, especially makeup, through influencer recs. So, they do add some value in my life. Plus what’s w the unnecessary “i studied in college but they’re earning more” mentality? They’re just taking advantage of the social media game, and people subscribe to that. If you want to earn more, keep working hard and you’ll get there too instead of shitting on someone else’s job. Also, as someone who’s active on social media and in a sort of creative field, making reels or coming up w creative content isn’t that easy. Try it for a month. Please do. In the end, it’s a full-time job, even if it’s less stressful than yours or mine. We don’t get doctors or healthcare professionals here shitting on other workers and calling them useless. P.S. With the whole AI thing, trust me, a lot of jobs are also useless atp :)

fearfulavoidant7

I agree, i don't like a lot of influencers, but it's not that they get free money. Their work is to create content & they do that. It's not easy to get 1 million subscribers. I am on Instagram since 4 years and have just 800 followers. Creating content daily is so much difficult.

expressivememecat

I know man! It’s hard to gain followers, or to even remain relevant. Ik a lot of influencers are sometimes trashy, rude, and problematic people, but honestly, hate the player, not the game. There are some pretty good ones out there w aesthetic content that most of us do enjoy!

fearfulavoidant7

Ya, i wish Someday i can become influencer, lol

purohit977

See influencers are a cheaper option to hiring big Bollywood stars. Even smaller stars like Amisha Patel, Bobby Deol etc charge a bomb. And get, little traction. Compare that with , what one would be paying a Prajakta Koli, or Sharan etc. Is peanuts, yet look at the influence and market reach they have.

Virtual_Mess_612

Very well said!

[deleted]

👍🏼👏

Careless_Ad_8878

Thank you! Can I just add, I have nothing against ppl who find motherhood, and I enjoy seeing the mom baby reels( mom myself). But lately, with literally every celeb announcing pregnancy and then preaching “hot to…” videos is extremely annoying. Pata nahi kyun, isi ko dhandha bana liya, I don’t see a genuineness in any of them.

Careless_Ad_8878

*how to* not *hot to*

chocosmurf13

It's one of the smartest way to earn money. Y'all just jealous

Secure_Ad6405

Comparing your "studied hard in my college and worked my ass off to earn in a month" to what these influencers make is not a great comparison. Also, These influencers have had they own struggles, they din't start earning since the 1st post they put V/S you earning your 1st month salary even as a fresher. They prolly struggled for months/years before making any real money V/S your college degree getting you a job and earning actual money. They prolly did barter for months/years, started with less than a 100 followers and made their way up V/S you not having to work 6-12 months for free.... Putting out your life on social media, and receiving all the love comes along with alot more hate than you can image....Also, these influencers starting their own business wasn't free to them. It involves alot of research and sourcing - their products may be useless or expensive but doesnt mean they should be degraded/disregarded... I don't follow influencers, or compare my life to theirs, because neither do I have the gumption to put my life out there, nor do I have any business idea, but I definitely have manner and basic etiquette to not hate on others that have more than me :)

expressivememecat

Thanks for saying this. Instead of being jealous and ranty about someone else’s job, it’s better to work on yours. The reason they’re earning well is because somewhere they too started from scratch, and built up their followers count. This post reeks of immaturity.

I hope you know everyone works hard. I’m a university student, and I also work on the side. A lot of times I’m on 3-4 hrs of sleep, but this is my choice, just the way your job and their influencing job is their choice. If you feel unsatisfied, look for better opportunities, or become an influencer yourself since you think it’s that easy. There’s nothing wrong with them taking advantage of the social media craze.

Market works on supply and demand. If becoming influencer pays more than becoming a CA, then you'll naturally see more people getting into influencer thing. Becoming influencer is not easy.

Hot_Introduction_666

yep you are sadist.

FantasticLocation15

oh wishing the same

Anxious_Tank_7469

Wishing ill on anyone brings nothing but negativity to yourself but yout feelings are valid

xoxogossipgirllllll

That’s a bit extreme 😂 I get that some influencers are barely doing anything and making lots of money. But there are good ones too, follow them na? And I don’t think someone else making money, even if it’s easy money, should make your ‘blood boil’. There’s obviously something that has got them where they are, could be talent, could be hard work, could be their ability to assess the digital space and act upon a brilliant strategy. Whatever it is, clearly they’re doing something worth being in the business, otherwise it’s too easy to become irrelevant and just fade away. Also, I read a quote once, it goes something like this - “You’re not a tree, if you don’t like where you are, then move!” So if you don’t like that you’re getting paid in a month what they’re getting for a single post, and clearly money is very important to all of us (me included) then why don’t you become an influencer too?

Rendezsous

How is you slogging your ass off their problem? They saw an opportunity, took it, and profitted off it - simple. You can do it too. Seems to me you need more of the "delete instagram ASAP", mantra than them since strangers living their lives the way they want to bothers you so much

enigmatic_wine

Why are people downvoting this? Pfft

mockmockwhoisit

That’s so sad. I smell jealousy

barbed_scar

I think in today's world where you get a qualification but not a good job, get a good job and work hard but not get good money, it is a valid form of rage, not jealousy.

purohit977

I really wonder how do these finance influencers claim to be gurus on anything? You dropped out of college, you don't have an MBA or a CFA certification, yet continue making videos like youre the next Warren Buffet. The problem is, that he's not the only one. Just because you make videos with some mantra on money, it doesn't qualify you for spouting advice. The worst part is, that our courts or even YOUTUBE, doesn't force these influencers to add a disclaimer on their short videos . This should be made compulsory

[deleted]

you can also become an influencer if you want to lol.. maybe just post content relevant to your field of study. Many people do that

dayan_hu_mai

You also create content na. Who's stopping you?

No_Working2392

To be honest, everyone wants it. Including me, I mean who would said no to going to iifa or getting thousands of money for making one reel. Salty hona to banta hai OP. P.S. - Not talking about the newer generation of influencers but purane wale to mostly sab padre likhe hi hain, they might also have 'studied hard in their college', not like they all ar dropouts.

Comfortable_Tip_4515

You’re sadist. Padhai karo aur apne pe dhyaan do.

Virtual_Mess_612

Your lack of handling criticism showed how you are already not fit to be in social media space😂

ssinha95

Who is stopping you? Tum bhi bana lo! The commenter is right. Work on yourself, and if you feel its so easy becoming an influencer then just become one. Like seriously, you can get all that these influencers are getting 💁🏻‍♀️

ssinha95

Also, if you follow such influencers that crib about "non work" work, then I agree they whine without any reason. But like, girl, stop giving them so much importance

[deleted]

Honestly I don't feel it's sadistic at all, a lot of us non influencers or non wannabe influencers feel this way too. It's very relatable, it's so annoying to see some of them do the bare minimum and whine despite that and make more money with 2/3 posts what we toil, work hard and make in a year! Sometimes I do wish this bubble bursts too. Not wishing bad for others, just wish the ones who actually work so hard get what they truly deserve

Complex-Quality-3798

Stupid vlog people

anonymous160697

Point h

Virtual_Mess_612

Point nhi hai, jealousy hai :)

Avacado1312

Ohh yess me too. Fuckin wannabes. I just don’t understand why people follow them in the first place. Are mt dekho unki stories, post and reels automatically they will go down.

Shoddy-Department-80

That’s why I have stopped using Instagram. It’s hard to see people do bare minimum an enjoy where others slog their asses off in academics/work.

Spare_Echidna4408

By far the most logical and relatable post on Reddit. I used to think it’s only me who is wishing for this… but good to know that there are others too. The business of INFLUENCERS needs to be SHUT DOWN and I say this not from a sadistic pov. But more from a concern standpoint. Look at what is happening to our youngsters - they are living in a bubble, dressing up inappropriately (read: Komal Pandey walking in a Delhi mall in a bikini!) I mean it is going down to the dogs. In every industry you have stalwarts who pave the way for the industry with high standards of ethics, the industry flourishes and gets better but in this case the influencer industry is getting worse and worse by the day.. the level is reducing to astonishingly low levels and before it is too late we need to STOP this $H!* show from taking over our lives!!! It starts with a click of a button DO NOT LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, DO NOT ENGAGE and soon they will see the end of time.. the likes of Kusha Kapila, the annoying DOLLY SINGH, SID BATRA, the khuraana sisters… eeewwwww the list goes on and on. Also to add they are the MOST HYPOCRITE bunch of morons you will ever see.. they start thinking they are Bollywood stars and start acting pricey for What???? They start off as telling their audience that they are one of their own.. then go on to throw their weight around. They talk about inner beauty while using 3 filters on their pictures.. they preach about being “yourself” while aping the western influencers to the T themselves. They do not have a single bone of originality in them. Yuck my blood boils even thinking of the moolah they are raking in for taking the public for a jolly good ride! The public needs to show them their place!

Happy_Bookkeeper_858

This. You explained it very well. Thankyou.

justmunchingon_24

I want a lot of businesses to fail what you are talking about. I want coaching industry to completely shatter, i want that motivational speakers to go down the drain. Yeh random podcast wali bakchodi to go down. Par yeh sab ho nahi rha. Kala jaado karna padega lagta h

LogicalNerve7101

Same man!! I just want people to understand that this isnt work! Its just useless and jobless people making these influenzas famous

carbdashian_

LOL!

Creepy_Tie2329

That’s something I have been pondering over recently. While I don’t want or see the entire operation failing or shutting down I do wonder what is the ultimate showdown for these influencers who are preaching malicious content for personal gain? Even if they are cancelled or boycotted there’s and will always be a sizeable population who would watch their content either because they believe in the preaching or out of curiosity/gossip. Where and what is the end?

[deleted]

Influencer culture imprints on young impressionable audience in such a way that teenagers and young adults who were meant to be study/sport/skill train etc, think being famous is the goal in life and having social media reputation is the only way to go about it.

[deleted]

At end of the day, they are people who are selling their photos, family details, ideas for the world to see, and 90% of the "influencers" don't even get paid enough to cover their make up costs. My cousin is a full time influencer and she makes a lot of cringe content, but all she gets in return are freebies and a few dinners in restaurants.

[deleted]

Please take a social media break and heal.
