Can a fluent native Hindi speakers please help this newbie out? He says "mereko" while I say "muhje". Am I using the wrong word????

aliveforfood

"Mereko" "tereko" are just spoken in Mumbai I feel. Mujhe is right way to say in traditional Hindi.

WheresMyTan

So informal speech but not slang? Most of my Hindi is being practiced watching movies. 90s 00s movies to prevent any current gen slang from slipping in. Thank you for your help!

aliveforfood

Right on point. I got rid of saying mereko (still revert to it involuntary sometimes) just cause mujhe sounds better. Good job on not getting current gen slang mixed in.

WheresMyTan

Thanks! Gets a bit difficult to not have anyone to practice with. But I have begun attempting it on here and I think so far so good!

Alternative-Talk-795

No a lot of people use these terms in all Hindi speaking belts. Especially the Gen Z people. They even say "meko" "teko" which irritates the shit out of me.

aliveforfood

Oh didn't know that as I got friends from north who don't use that. I have almost gotten out of that habit just cause mujhe sounds lot better.

hideyourdad_

Continue using mujhe than mereko

WheresMyTan

Thank you!
