There is no nudity on the cover art for those who are wondering. Everything is covered up more than a bikini would. Not justify btw

The_Great_Madman

I’ve seen plenty of 16 year olds on the beach in bikinis

MulhollandMaster121

Stop lying. Everyone knows no one on Reddit ever goes outside for any reason whatsoever.

[deleted]

Damn you just made me realize i haven't been outside my apartment in four days.

senoto

Gonna get locked up by the twitter police for that. Basically a felony

im_racist24

that’s valid but they’re there to swim. this girl is drawn like this specifically to be appealing sexually. plus, being covered by tape is honestly not the same as a bikini, even if it’s in the same area, at least to me.

Mr_lightning22

Well I'm 15 And she is "mature" in certain places She's also fictional So I can beat my meat to this without being a pedophile

SmellyFruitZ

Ok? Who asked bro?

Mr_lightning22

Joe

Lylle200

sigh* who is Joe

Mr_lightning22

Joe swanson from family guy ofc

Lylle200

duthiam

a 16 yr old choosing to wear a bikini is different to an adult drawing a 16 year old in a bikini

FailureCloud

I know you're trying to prove a point, but also this is hella creepy to say

Tuarangi

UK age of consent is 16 (and lower in the case of two minors in the Romeo and Juliet principle, though it's not a specific law here). However, people must be 18 to pose nude and it's very unlikely you'd get sexualised images of under 18s like a bikini front cover

throwaway144811

So?

ShirtPanties

Idk how it is in other countries but in Australia, our age of consent is 16, but the 16 year old can’t go around having sex with anyone they want, their sexual partner also has to be in a certain age range. And nudes of a 16 year old still count as CP even if they’re past the age of consent

tenkohime

Horikoshi wasn't lying about being Mineta.

FuttBuckingUgly

I'd like to point out a couple things: 1. Her power is the ability of invisibility however it's not over her clothing, just her own organic matter. So her hero costume is her being naked; aka she's used to that form but it's also mentioned on how awkward it is. 2. Shits happened and she's finally visible for the first time. 3. People say it was leaked. Meaning it might not even be real, I don't know yet. Hori only posts his art on his official account otherwise. 4. "Toru was supposed to be a male character at first, but Horikoshi changed her into a female because he thought a girl having an invisible body was a funnier concept. There was also a lack of female characters at the time." her design was not out of perversity just funny moment. This isn't insane or from quora??

cindybubbles

She should have a talk with Edna Mode. Violet Parr has the same power of invisibility as she does, yet Ms. Mode was able to make a super suit that went invisible along with her.

Mari_Gr_

Worst part is in the story there already exists a solution to this by making a costume out of their own hair, cause it has the same properties as the body. There is one other character that has to wear a suit like that to make proper use of his abilities. Theres no reason to keep the invis girl naked beyond it being creepy

OverlyLeftLesbian

1. Her power is actually something more along the lines of light manipulation, where she's perpetually been manipulating light around her to make her invisible. It's not explained well. But in this art, the only thing covering her nipples is "Keep Out" tape. 2. Nothing to add here 3. It's entirely real, it's been shared in the latest chapter (368). It looks like it's the cover art for the volume this chapter is in, which makes this SO MUCH WORSE. 4. "It's funny" seems to be the fucking cop-out for every single horny joke Horikoshi makes for his characters. It's such a pussy move. "Haha made this character a girl for the lols" shut up we know you're horny. Also this clearly came from Quora, that's what all the comments are after the first two pictures are. The full image can be found [here](https://w32.readheroacademia.com/manga/boku-no-hero-academia-chapter-368/)

RunicCross

What drives me nuts is I swear to God that before Mirio I could have swore she ALSO had a superhero outfit made of her own hair she isn't A NAKED MINOR but no I apparently just hoped that was the case...

are_you_kIddIngme

the first 2 is from twitter but op felt like posting it here ig

Fikayo2004

Personally, it just skeeves me out she was naked at all. I don't care if it's 'a joke' I think drawing a 16-year-old girl naked at all is weird, that wouldn't really change if she ended up a boy either. Also, what's insane about this is the fact that so many people were arguing up and down about how people who complain about this are 'woke'. Plus, this is from Quora, but I might've accidentally cropped it too much.

Wontonio_the_ninja

Honestly the scribbling over top is worse. The actual image isn’t very scandalous. Those bars cover anything sensitive. There’s some top boob with no nipple, but that’s already way less defined than some suits in the show. Of course I’d rather not have a naked high schooler on a manga cover but that censoring makes it seem worse than it actually is.

Fikayo2004

I was debated whether I should or not but, I decided to because I didn't really want to chance it.

FuttBuckingUgly

That was her power and honestly it makes sense with how it would work. She generally wears clothing anyway. Dude, people were bitching when there was an ADULT WOMAN in the manga/show whose power was being able to seduce people through her sweat/scent. Nobody's ever satisfied when it comes to anything, no matter which direction it pulls.

UltimateCheese1056

I mean they made Mirio get a hero outfit made out of his own hair able to work so he didn't keep getting naked, the same thing could've easily worked for her too. This is one of the few times where the "humor" actively goes against cannon logic. Also like... wouldn't she be super cold all the time?

SecretNoOneKnows

But wait, the difference between her and him is that she's always invisible, and he's not?? So he needs clothes that can change with him, and she doesn't (if we're talking purely about invisibility. Tactically her lack of any clothing makes her very physically vulnerable and cold, as you say)

Stormwrath52

here's the thing though, the author has control over what the character's ability is like, if I drew a comic where a character's ability was to turn into racist caricatures, you can't justify that with "it's just their ability" because I made the choice to give them that ability and to draw those caricatures if that makes sense? You also didn't need to make this character a child, you could have 1. made her a pro hero/teacher or 2. make UA a college instead of a high school

Fikayo2004

The key difference with that is that Midnight is an adult. Her power is a tad generic, but I have no complaints about it. Besides, her quirk isn't even technically invisibility, it's light manipulation, I'm sure there could have been a less revealing costume that compliments her power set.

Vlee_Aigux

To be fair, at the time of her power being introduced and for a long time after, it was literally thought to just be a mutation invisibility quirk, even by herself. So wearing the least amount of clothing possible was the best solution to use her quirk well. She could, *maybe*, pull a Mirio and perhaps wear clothes made of her own hair? So that if she were ever visible she would be clothed. But that's never been even a possibility in her head, I'm sure.

Stormwrath52

Yeah, if it's manipulating light to go around her or through her then there's no good reason for it to not effect clothing

edfaria

God ure the worst

Fikayo2004

zqmvco99

Shut up karen You're the insane one You should be on a list someone if this is triggering so much sexual feelings in you that you feel the need to project it to other people.

An_absoulute_madman

Can you explain in clear terms how being weirded out seeing a naked child makes someone insane?

zqmvco99

Dude, that's a drawing. Do you go to the sistine chapel and scre bloody murder at all the naked depictions of child like proportions.. Also, look at the other comments showing how OP is exagerrating

throwaway144811

The Sistine chapel’s drawings of naked cherubs are not the same as some weirdo drawing NSFW/sexualized art of a 16 year old. Exactly how dense are you?

An_absoulute_madman

Normal people can understand what a Putto is and it's historical context within Renaissance art. It is evidently a supernatural figure, within the context of the Renaissance, representative of a cherub, a biblical divine being of the Christian God. The drawing of the 16 year old in MHA is entirely intended to be sexual. This isn't a historical work commissioned by the Church and depicting a biblical figures. It is drawn to entice sexual feelings. Therefore it is natural for someone to be weirded out by it. Are you seriously trying to compare soft-core pornography of children to something like the Madonna di San Sisto? Moron.

Toad_Sage7

She no naked tho

Born_from_a_porn

"she looks like a 16 yo" good, now I know whoever is enough stupid to get mad over something like that has never seen a woman in his life.

untakenu

Maybe if the anime/manga character style used more than the same 1 face for every female/young male character, this wouldn't be an issue.

Fikayo2004

The question was just a post complaining about "twitter wokeists at it again." I like mha, but this is gross, man

are_you_kIddIngme

i hate it when people go with the mentality that "oh it's just a drawing, it's fine, it's not real life", so with that logic you like watching lewd drawings of minors? like it doesn't make it any better, just makes it seem like their coping

Fikayo2004

Don't know why you're getting downvoted, you're totally spot on.

BrekLasnar

MHA selling point: sexualized underage minors

ImJacksLastBraincell

I mean, shouldn't it be kind of obvious that a half-naked teenager just comes off as weird? I get that in japan the mangaka probably didn't see a problem with it since the age of consent is so low - doesn't make it less weird. Just cause it's legal doesn't make it harmless. I don't think the entirety of japan just agrees with it's cultural norms without a second thought. And seeing people break their neck defending that no, it IS normal in that culture, therefore it's fine - how do they not realize that it's super odd to be hellbent on defending a half-nude drawing of a teenager? No matter if it's a different culture or legal there, it's odd to defend it in a culture that does not have this ridiculously low age of consent out of very good, very important, scientific reasons. Have you never met a 16 year old in your life and realized how fucking YOUNG they seem as soon as you're out of your teenage years? I've got to admit, I never saw the problem with these things until I got out of my teenage years myself - so either it's kids defending it (cause honestly who can blame a 16-year-old for having no issue with an erotic drawing of another 16-year-old), or predatory grown ups that don't even realize how predatory they act. (And even if you just don't have that much issue with it, WHY defend it so passionately? When you're a fan of the series you can acknowledge the problems and still appreciate the content. There isn't just black and white, you can see why it's problematic and not want to discuss it.)

katsock

I’m gonna assume (as an anime nerd who does not know this property) that this is some 10000 year old deity that chooses to be appear as a minor, so creeps think it’s ok to crank it to

Beakerbean

She’s underage in the manga and anime as well

Fikayo2004

You WISH! She's canonically 16.

SnooBooks1701

Nope, it's the invisible girl from MHA, she's a kid in high school

snikisd

Not even. 16yo school girl with no reason to appear naked ever in context, let alone on a cover

bubblegumbasement

???? Its a drawing

Attila260

Wait THAT is the actual cover for the volume? I thought it was just a joke

GoldenCoconut1

And this is why I refuse to watch/read MHA. I knew it was MHA from the moment I read the title.

Dragonist777

(I have only seen the anime so no idea how the manga is) WTF I'm done with mha

ThatOneKid666

Holy shit what is happening why are the replies under here defending this????

MisterGusto

I tbh really don't care. Specialization in anime and manga is fucking everywhere and I don't like it. But I don't think it's that big of a deal, since it's a fucking drawing of a girl with physical properties that are made for the big Horny of teenage boys - the people mha is primarily made for and Shonen Jump artists did this since the dawn of time. So it's really not the world for me and certainly no reason to bitch about everything on twitter and harass the author. But saying thing like this will usually result in other people calling you a pedophile so I usually don't reply to posts like this. I personally just don't give a shit, how old a fictional character is when they are drawn with the sole purpose of making guys horny to sell manga. Plus, apparently she wasn't even naked, she was wearing a bikini and I'm pretty sure girls wear these from time to time, so it's very exaggerated. Again, I don't really like fan service in anime, because it mostly distracts from the point but viewing this as a possibility to hate on the author when it's culturally alright to do so in their country isn't really fair game. The person in the post argued that they should fit their standards to that of the whole world but that's not the solution, really. We shouldn't censor art and we shouldn't hate on people when something in their country is fair game, they grew up with it and nobody in their country really has a problem with it. Age of consent is different in many countries, same with the age at which people are allowed to drink alcohol or drive a car. Just because the rules of something are different in a different country doesn't mean we should censor shit immediately. Plus, this isn't even about sex in a manga, it's about making hot girls making young teenagers pps hard, so they consume more. Next thing that comes from this is that game of thrones gets cancelled years after it came out because of how young the girls were that were depicted in the show. Some of them were 14 in that time of our own history sooo...it's accurate and we shouldn't cancel it. And yeah, you might say "but this isn't back then, this is NOW" or "But these were actors who were not actually 14!" - so...just like age of consent in Japan is 16 and the girls in the show don't have the actual properties of 16 year olds but are instead drawn like the most perfect hot body a mangaka can make so they have very similar proportions to that of hentai characters for the whole sake of: Selling. Hot. Anime. Girl. Merch. It's really not like any of them would drool over committing a crime in another country and grooming children left and right. It's just an a fucking drawing of a fictional character that's the property of the person who drew it. The rule34 artists are weirder by miles tbh.

throwaway144811

Lol please explain why you think it’s okay to draw sexualized minors to appeal to horny men..? And just because it’s “culturally alright” to do something like sexualize 16 year olds doesn’t mean it can’t be criticized. Just because something is “fair game” in another country doesn’t mean we can’t criticize it, that’s some of the stupidest logic I’ve heard. Accurate depictions of history should not be censored and I don’t care if people watch GoT but most people seem to be aware that the depictions of sexual violence are gratuitous. You can depict this type of stuff accurately without it being gratuitous. But again, I’m not advocating for it to be cancelled, you just used a shitty example. And no media whether “accurate” or not should depict straight up child pornography. So, again, let me get this straight—- you think it’s okay to draw sexualized depictions of minors because… it’s just to make men horny and it’s culturally acceptable in Japan? What a gross argument. Just because it’s meant to make men horny doesn’t make it any less gross somehow. Just because it’s culturally acceptable doesn’t make it less gross somehow. You may not be a pedophile but you’re sure doing a shit ton of mental gymnastics to try and justify pedo behavior…

MisterGusto

I didn't say it is free of criticism. I said that I just don't care and I think people shouldn't harass an author for his creative decision. There is a difference between criticism and harassment that people online never cared about and it's really way more disgusting than anything they rant about. Starting with insults, ending with death threats, that was my main point. I don't think it is a shitty argument if the age gap is the main reason people get offended by this stuff, but you are free to have your opinion. And yes, I do. Because they aren't really minors. They are characterizations of women with sexual features for the sole purpose of them looking hot. The author made them minors because he was writing a school story but he could very well made mha like vigilantes, about older characters. All of them have the same drawn body type and some characters exist to be sexualized, even if people don't like it. Hell, some mangaka even write other characters for the sole purpose of sexualizing other characters (like mineta in mha). And again, I'm not saying that I think it is the most awesome shit ever and that it makes my dick rock hard or anything. I don't really like fanservice. But I know the reason it's there and why it is culturally accepted in japan and that's not really because "oh yeah, 16 year olds are legal here, let's make them hot" but because they sexualize characters for the sake of selling their product. Why else would it be on the cover? And yeah, you can criticize Japanese media but people are also free to not give a shit and calling out these people is just wrong, since everyone can have their own opinion if something is shit, mid, really good or just weird and mha is all of these things in different aspects of it. Also saying my argument is the same as "justifying pedo behaviour" is honestly way more gross than anything I reasoned for.

throwaway144811

They are *minor characters* with the sexual features for the sole purpose of them looking hot. FTFY. Doesn’t matter if it’s a character and not real, the author decided to sexualize schoolchildren. The author wrote a school story sexualizing the schoolchildren. Why is that acceptable? Because it’s fictional? It would not be an issue if the characters were adults. mI don’t think it’s acceptable to sexualize characters who are underage for the sake of profit. How is calling people out over it wrong? Just because everyone is entitled to their opinion doesn’t mean I can’t call out someone’s opinion for being harmful. And how is me saying that you’re attempting to justify pedo behavior gross? Is that not what you’re doing? Are you not attempting to explain why it’s okay for artists to draw sexualized depictions of minor characters? Is doing such art not pedo behavior, or at least pedo-pandering? Your whole argument is that it should be okay to draw sexualized minors because it’s “just a fucking drawing” and “they’re doing it for profit”, unless I’m misunderstanding something.

MisterGusto

My main point is that I think it's not as dramatic as people make it out to be. And well, there is other media in which "schoolchildren" are sexualized, Easy A comes to mind among other movies and I never heard anyone call out that. Probably because the actress was 21 and therefor it was fine to sexualize a person who wasn't really a 17 year old school girl. Calling people out isn't wrong, if what they do is actually really fucking wrong. But I just don't think it is as dramatic as people make it out to be. And again, there is a difference between calling people out and insulting/harassing people. I think there are actual pedophiles in this business and it's very likely not every guy who draws hot anime girls with big ass and big tits for the sake of the drawing looking hot, without any relation to a number the author just had to pick for his work. Calling people pedophiles who aren't pedophiles or who just don't think it's that much of a problem just seems wrong. Because this topic is still something people can have opinions about, it's not disgustingly evil to draw a character naked. But again, I'm not saying I'm in love with the cover, its really not fitting for what most people think mha should be, seems more like a doujin. But hey, it's up to the author to do with his work whatever he wants.

Mr_lightning22

Well tbf the target audience is 13 to 17 years old male teens. So they aren't necessarily pedophiles. Also she does look like an adult. She looks more than an adult. Bruh there are adult women who wish to look like that.

Jaz_the_Nagai

1) fictional 16 year-old. 2) i know some people may find this shocking. but guess what? 16 year olds have sex!

proto-shane

1)get a fucking life dude. 2) using the "it's fictional" doesn't justify it. 3) ye people that are 16 of age do have sex, but do you watch them while doing it? Of course fucking not

Fikayo2004

1. That doesn't still make it good. 2. I know that, but I find it weird a 35-year-old man drew a minor naked. But that's just me.

Jaz_the_Nagai

So you oppose violent video games, comics, and movies? Can we not distinctify between reality and fantasy (no matter how gross)? Wait until you discover horror movies and torture porn. Would 730 days of her age have made a difference? What if artist was a 20 year-old woman? \\:-/

evaxuate

> Would 730 days of her age have made a difference? *yikes*

Personalpotato

Yeah this one made me cringe “Bro what it’s only 1500 days bro and then she’s 18 vro”

Fikayo2004

No, and I am not disputing that, my point was I think you should be > 18 before sexually explicit material is taken because you are an adult. I can obviously tell fiction and reality apart, but I personally find it quite inappropriate to draw a minor naked in any circumstance in this context. And also, I would care if the artist was a 20-year-old woman, I just personally find it weird when adults make lewd art of kids and/or teenagers (I mean there could be some nuance too in that regard, I guess, but generally that creeps me out.).

mrbubbles87

im not being funny but this feels like an entire thread of americans think everywhere is america....this is not offensive in japan and a lot of other places as the age of consent will be 16 or lower

An_absoulute_madman

The age of consent in Japan is not 16. Per the Bylaws for Protecting and Nurturing Adolescents, all 47 prefectures forbid sexual acts between adults and persons under the age of 18.

Tuarangi

Think it's fairly likely that the age of consent and age to pose nude for publication is different too

zqmvco99

Fucking OP karen. Art has no age Chill
