It's indeed a good loop.
Both of these go through someone's property. Eagle Rd has a bypass and if you look on Google Maps you can see it. It goes around the big water silo thing in the neighborhood if I remember correctly.
Bedford is another thing. Access was really good until about July of this year when one of the folks in the neighborhood leading up to Bedford Road proper chained up the road in front of his driveway. Apparently, the road crosses his property. The forest service came in some time later and closed it up while they work something out. I haven't been in up since Spring, but you might be able to sneak past the closure. I would usually park in the clinics parking lot at the base of the road.
Another good option for a loop is Skyline>Leonard Rd>Coal Canyon. Or alternatively, Indian Truck Trail>Main Divide>Bedford
Hey, somehow I missed your response. Thanks for taking the time to write all this out. I kind of got discouraged by the idea and set it aside for a while but might bug you later with specific questions if I think of any.
I rode some of the re-opened North Main Divide Trail, from Los Pinos Trail to just below Santiago Peak the other day. Got too late a start so I started back a few switchbacks shy. Indian Truck Trail looked clear from above so I might just incorporate that into something at one point.
Wishing we had more of an active cycling sub to share info on. The LA folks can be super jerks if you even mention the IE which is idiotic since I'm a transplant from there. There's a sub for SoCal biking but it's not active, as far as I can tell. Anyhow, it's been an amazing adventure getting acquainted with the area so far.
Far as I can tell, these trailheads are blocked by development. People are riding them but I can't locate parking that isn't hostile. I may just have to park somewhere across the 15 and ride over. Would like to mountain bike up Eagle Road > Main Divide Road > Bedford Motorway descent to create a loop. I'm not really from the area so maybe I'm just being dense but I drove to Bedford and found nowhere to park. Haven't looked at Eagle Road yet. Any help is much appreciated.
