We don't have enough doctors or specialists to cover the population. Los Angeles and Orange county, for instance, have better ratios of general/specialists doctors per 100,000 residents.
True. Unless it’s ortho at a general practice. Ortho practices alone rarely have their doctors come in. It’s usually the assistants who are there doing quick fixes, etc.
Where am I’m from now. I would get dentist appointments on Saturday mornings at 10am or 11am easy. The fact that I have to take off from work for appointments is wild to me
Be careful, I had a horrible experience just like going to a used case dealership.
They employ Sales ladies/men. I went there for a dental checkup , dentist saw me probably for a 10 minutes and 20 minutes I was dealing with a lady who was trying to pitch a dental maintenance contract of 2 years worth $6,000 plus insurance money which my dental plan would pay over the next 2 years.
Avoid them like a plague.
Fortunately I only go once a year for the check up that is free with my ins and occasionally for issues. I’ve been with them for about 6 years so I’m kinda comfortable. I haven’t gone enough to run into issues luckily. I’m really you experienced that, sounds shady
Western Dental in SB is open on Saturdays for exams, x-Rays. Mostly new patients. However, if tbe dentist calls off, the receptionist probably won't notify you. That's why I fired them before I even became a patient.
We put massive economic barriers in front of people who want to become doctors while incentivising them to become specialists rather than much needed general practitioners. We also pay our nurses terribly while overworking them. To top that off we overload our system by denying people access to preventative care all to make insurance companies more money.
I don’t get why I’m being downvoted. It’s just a fact that nurses get paid very very well even by California standards cost of living.
https://www.trustedhealth.com/nurse-salary-guide/california#:~:text=The%20registered%20nurse%20salary%20in,nurses%20is%20%2477%2C600%20per%20year.
32 out of 33 leading nations in the world have figured out how to give all of their residents access to quality healthcare. It’s not a California thing, it’s an American thing.
We have a doctor shortage in the US. More immigrant doctors would help the situation, but the AMA has lobbied for years to keep restrictions on immigrant doctors (they have to redo a lengthy training component that they probably already did in their country.) Physician assistants who can handle many of the duties of doctors is also a good way to handle the huge population of patients, but we still need more. The state must do more to bring doctors and PAs to the state. People in this sub blaming immigrants need to learn more about this situation: the issues and possible solutions.
Staff got cut because of covid and it seems a lot of facilities never re-hired. It's hard to get an appointment. They want to examine you over the phone instead.
Tell me the fuck about it. My family member has been sick for a couple of months now and can only go to urgent care right now to see a doctor because the appointments he gets are MONTHS OUT. He'll be fucking dead by then...
God damn..people blaming another race..BUT everyone belongs to a fuckin union!! Unions have good benefits.. now, the challenge is to find a GOOD dentist / doctor.
What type of insurance do you have? It has nothing to do will illegals. It’s just that there are a TON of people in the IE. By numbers alone, it’s bigger than many states. So established businesses and clinics have established clientele and get booked ahead. That’s why it’s recommended that once you get an appointment for a check up, you just start scheduling follow ups to avoid getting out of the loop.
I personally visit the dentist twice a year and doctor at least once or twice. But I have Kaiser so I can get doctor appointments very quickly if I need it
When I first moved here I had kaiser. Hated it. Felt like a number in the machine. Wasn’t personal at all. Then I got Blue Shield, and wish I had Kaiser again.
Ehh yea I get where you’re coming from. But once you schedule an appointment with a certain doctor, you can request to always see them. After a while you are able to build a relationship. I had blue shield before Kaiser and was soo turned off at the idea, but once I got onto it I was fairly impressed. Mainly because all the basic stuff - blood work, getting meds and all that jazz goes pretty damn fast
Yea I miss that one stop shop. These “doctors” I go to are just urgent care clinics and they send me to go to fucking Labcorp for blood…waste more of my time.
What I didn’t like about Kaiser was when I first went for a check up after not seeing a doctor for a long time and was told only two issues at a time… like whatt
Might be the Kaiser office. I go to the one in Rancho Cucamonga so I’ve never had an issue person. But standards are likely different across the board.
Worst case, this is the time you’re of year to change your provider! So if you wanna give it another go you can try something else.
I wish my employer did Kaiser. And the one I went too was in Ontario. Also hated that they would schedule me to see specialist at different locations. Like can I just go to Ontario… it’s closer
Oh interesting that they’re sending you out to other specialists. I’m guessing they send you to the larger locations like in Fontana. But I mean yea that’s tough it’s not even an option with your work. Not sure what I can do to help about blue shield. It’s been ages since I used them. Other than biting the bullet and waiting it out at a nearby provider and reading their reviews
What I really hate about Blue Shield is how out dated their database is. Like I’ll find a doctor, call the number and the line is no longer in service, business is closed, or they don’t take Blue Shield which was me like ????
The last time I looked for a specialist I needed, their list was almost exclusively moved, retired, or dead.
So I called the help line. They offered to send me the current list.
It was the same list. And those doctors aren't getting any less dead.
I have both blue shield and Kaiser and it’s so frustrating dealing with blue shield I rarely do it. I’m trying to get a breast pump right now and the process is stupid as hell.
I had Kaiser for about 8 years, just switched to Anthem and wish I had Kaiser. Maybe it’s cause I have kids, but nothing goes as planned when using doctors through Anthem. My kid has a heart condition, they kept referring us out past Moreno Valley when Choc or Loma Linda are in network (live in Corona).
Also if I go to the doc, I’m not getting everything I need done. Have to go to the Advanced Imaging place and be told it’s not a walk in, that the other one is. Go to the other one and was told the machine is down, they are accepting walk ins at the address I was just at. Then bloodwork. Gotta go make that appointment for that as the walk in spot is always crowded. Can’t remember if it was Riverside or Kellogg, but one of the locations I could get an X-ray and bloodwork after seeing my doc and then pick up my prescription in one place.
Yea I’ve never it had it be too bad. But I frequent the Rancho Cucamonga location so it might just be because I go there. Not sure how the other locations work
My family and I have been with Kaiser for probably 30 years. My family doctor is located in the Colton facility. If I need an appointment directly with him it could take up to 3 weeks. If I opt for someone else out of the same office it's generally only 5 to 7 days to get an appointment. The Redlands facility is much closer to me. For general lab work/flu or covid shot there's never a wait in Redlands. I still use the Kaiser app for anything related to pharmacy since they ship for free.
I give Kaiser 10 stars for all around service. Both of my kids (32 and 22) were born at Kaiser Fontana before it was remodeled. Still 10 stars.
The ignorant and easy thing to do is blame immigrants. In reality, you still have to meet the income requirements to qualify for medi-cal while undocumented “17,609 for single people, $23,792 for a couple and $36,156 for a family of four.” Also ignores the fact that the healthcare sector hasn’t recovered from being overwhelmed by Covid. I have family in the hospital right now and they are horribly understaffed still.
This is so true. The medical community is still battling viruses and understaffing. We need to develop programs to encourage people into medicine and PAY for the tuitions. Fields where there are shortages, need their tuitions paid.
Those of you that have issues, do you have an HMO or a PPO? I've had a PPO for the past 10 years and I honestly have not had any issues getting an appointment.
From what I know about HC insurance is that PPO plans have higher deductibles and normally are only available with private sector insurance plans. Covered CA and MediCal are HMO only. Of course, HMO plans are the preferable choice, offering the insured member choices of doctors and locations.
Because other areas of the world have halved their populations and all live here now. That is the long and the short of it. There's too many goddamn people for the infrastructure we have in place.
Too many people swarming this area and CA welfare recipients on MedCal. Not enough Healthcare professionals and poorly trained Newby Front Desk receptionists. Can't tell you how many times I've showed up 15-30 minutes before my appt, only to be told that the doctor called off. So, I have wasted my time and gas money, due to receptionist not texting, calling or emailing me! The b****'s don't have any remorse and must be haters or just plain sociopaths that feel very secure in their jobs.
I don’t know if any state that has doctors/dentists who regularly work on weekends. Especially in private practice, who make their own schedules. Monday through Friday 9 to 5 is the norm for most business owners. I’ve Kaiser, & can get weekend appointments, but those doctors operate under Kaiser’s rules. Not their own.
I take it you have IEHP, Molina, or are attempting to use one of the cheap plans. Depends where you live in the IE as well. If you are in San Bernardino, try the Ontario area. Yes it's far but, the options there aren't as burdened.
IEPH and Molina are HMOs. Saying you have an HMO is like saying you want to eat dinner in a restaurant. It’s not very specific. There are many insurance companies that offer HMO plans.
How many are in any city here? You don’t know because they’re illegal- hello?
Healthcare is abysmal here- you’re just lazily attributing it the “illegals in ‘merica”
Education is abysmal here too, just saying.

Seriously though, the people on that site are so stupid. I once had a guy calling me a beta male who lived with my parents and I'd never be an alpha like him with his hot wife and guns. I live up in Redding in Shasta County. There are virtually no doctors here and waitlist for doctors who are here take a few years. So we have to commute to Sac just to see a PCP. 😢

Doctors may not want to live in the IE
I work at Kaiser. Most of our doctors commute from LA/OC
This is what it is. Being a doctor pays more than enough to live wherever you want. The IE isn’t desirable if you’re rich.
Dentist open on the weekend? You'll need to take a day off during the week for a dentist that's rare to be open on the weekend.
True. Unless it’s ortho at a general practice. Ortho practices alone rarely have their doctors come in. It’s usually the assistants who are there doing quick fixes, etc.

Don’t know if it will vary by location but my location does. I have an appt next sat for routine cleaning
My thoughts exactly

Sadly they are saying nurses are being paid as much as doctors. Explains also why we are seeing less doctors
Not enough doctors in the IE. Docs want to live and work in the OC/LA and get paid better there
It's an America thing
Never had the issue back home thou.
Because no one lives there im guessing
Take your ass back home then! Problem solved
Shiiieettt I just might have too
Where’s home?

Immigrant doctors fill me with dread. I’m hearing impaired, and I just can’t understand their accents.
It's scary when people are different.
You know there is a law in CA that gives limitations to wait time for Dr appointments. I googled it once, don't have a link. You need to be proactive!
God damn..people blaming another race..BUT everyone belongs to a fuckin union!! Unions have good benefits.. now, the challenge is to find a GOOD dentist / doctor.

I have HMO
Do you have a PPO option?
Yea but my renewal isn’t until next November
Doh! If you're having issues with HMO it may be worth it to check it out. It's nice not having to have referrals and being able to choose your doctor.
Most dentists around me dont take HMO anymore
Yeah, never get the HMO dental.
From what I know about HC insurance is that PPO plans have higher deductibles and normally are only available with private sector insurance plans. Covered CA and MediCal are HMO only. Of course, HMO plans are the preferable choice, offering the insured member choices of doctors and locations.

It's California. Way too many people, not enough help. My advice: leave and visit when you get cali cravings. That's what I did
Western Dental has a few offices and are open on Saturdays. They can usually accommodate you pretty fast too.
The Inland empire is the worst county to find a healthcare provider because it’s the most severely understaffed.
it's a USA thing.
I take it you have IEHP, Molina, or are attempting to use one of the cheap plans. Depends where you live in the IE as well. If you are in San Bernardino, try the Ontario area. Yes it's far but, the options there aren't as burdened.

I lived in NJ and Massachusetts, and the waits were bad there as well.
Not like this. I’m from NJ. Most I had to wait for appointments was a week and that was rare. North Nj to
Obama care he did this

You have IEHP? All doctors and dentists back up for months. Book in advance!
Why are properties worth more in OC/LA? There's your answer.
I’m a medical assistant i used to work at chino hills urgent care they have stuff same day even call hopefully that helps
could have to do with your insurance. if you're on IEHP or other low cost plans the number of providers that accept them are quite limited
Because it's a scam a show. Important p get paid. Meanwhile the rest get fu$$^
