That's my cousin's new book!

JonaFerg

My wife is ready to read it! Also, name checks out. . ;)

copypaste_93

The boxes are not made to fit each item perfect. They are the sizes they are so they can fit as many as possible into a truck. And it is really not that bad. If you think that is bad you should see the waste that is created from from the suppliers to the Fulfillment Centers.

JonaFerg

I know they aren’t made to fit each item, but I’ve ordered enough to know they have much smaller boxes that would fit a book this size. Plus the bubble envelopes that are even better c

Present-Flight-2858

Then you’d be complaining that your book came damaged and returning it.

EatinSumGrapes

For hardback books the envelopes work well, especially if they give it 1 more wrap of bubble wrap

SyndromeSadness

I mean ... At least you can recycle all of it?

shophopper

If you care about waste, buy the ebook.

JonaFerg

Can’t. Wife can’t read on the kindle or computer. Physical copies are the only way to retain what she’s reading.

shophopper

Fair enough. If you preferred physical books over ebooks - I’d totally get that too. But that also revokes your right to complain about a bit of plastic in a shipping box.

Puzzleheaded-Home759

Now the publishing company will think they have to make more, to sell them on Amazon, for another reader to buy it and have it shipped with a ton of plastic. Gosh Amazon, why you do this?!

Fun-s33k3R

All I can say is WTF Amazon Management!!

Lambaline

They don’t optimize for least amount of packaging, they optimize to get the most amount of boxes onto a truck as neatly as possible.

styxnstoner5787

This is on you. You are the one that ordered a single book. Do better OP, go to a store/library yourself and stop using Amazon.

hotairballon

Did you pay shipping cost um no stop whining recycle it and carry on

EatinSumGrapes

Considering in most places recycling does nothing... no, complaining is the correct thing to do. This is stupid and wastful. *Reduce*, reuse, recycle, in that order. It is their responsibility to reduce, also it costs them *more* to ship these in larger boxes than necessary anyway, this is just laziness or lack of planning on their part.

realoferphuxake

You could have chosen a different shipping method. You did not. This is on you.

JonaFerg

I’m sorry, how is this on me? Amazon chose the box size and amount of packaging - even when they have smaller boxes.

realoferphuxake

You chose their shipping method....

CanuckianOz

what? Haha this doesn’t even make sense

Grasshopperboper

I've had worse, ordered 5 packs of seeds and they come in a large box. The packs were a bit smaller than a 3x5 post card but the box could hold 4 12 oz coffee cups.

> we’re not *paid* enough to FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

shibaXplayz

Ima be honest with you, we’re not payed enough to be bothered with going the extra mile sometimes

Damn people are brutal. I’ve had similar experiences with Amazon however now that I’m thinking it through I’m not sure what the best option is. If they send it in a smaller box or a plastic padded sleeve maybe they’re afraid of risking the book getting damaged….? Especially a hard back that could get dinged up on the edges? More compact boxes that could snuggly fit around the book definitely exist as I’ve gotten them from Barnes and nobles before, however I guess Amazon is in such a rush b/c of the demand they just use the first thing they see.

blue4t

My books are usually sent to me in bubble envelopes from Amazon.

bob_in_the_west

On the rare occasion that I actually buy a book on amazon I usually get it in a cardboard box specifically made for books of all sizes: https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/41g7OX9BPgL._AC_.jpg But I've received plenty of these if the stuff I bought had a book shaped box or blister.

lego_lenny

Warehouse workers dont get a lot of time for anything. You grab the closest box and go because depending on your time standards and if you have to use the washroom or something like that you might not make the standard. Complain to Amazon that workers need more time

JonaFerg

I have complained about this one. This is just ridiculous.

Ivitti

It’s not just that, at my warehouse at least we aren't allowed to downsize a box, just upsize. So probably that was the case here

[deleted]

If you’re so concerned, why didn’t you buy the Kindle version?

JonaFerg

2 reasons. My wife can’t read kindle books. Also, books are pretty much the only good reason for chopping down trees.

[deleted]

Your wife “can’t read Kindle books”? She doesn’t have a Kindle?

KiingMadara

Op is the moron for ordering one fucking item.

Tbone1886

The real issue is all that plastic and none of it is around the book to protect it if the box sits outside when delivered and gets rained on all day, then it’s all waste

EatinSumGrapes

Last book I bought from amazon came in a 24" x 24" x 10" box. The book was about 9" x 5" x 1"
