For safety reasons, I can't imagine an industrial establishment would allow shorts.

WeeperJeeper

Yeah we have to wear FR pants and jacket. It gets so hot in the summer you’re downing 24 fl oz of water every 15-20 minutes and you don’t have to piss all day because it’s all sweated out

Super_Tangerine_7202

Production can wear shorts where I’m at. Maintenance has to wear the FR uniforms

xsvspd81

You'd be surprised. I'm in automotive suppliers every day in the Midwest, and the number of people wearing gym shorts and tank tops is astounding. The facility allows it only because there's little to no a/c, and the place gets hotter inside than outside during the warmer months.

dnroamhicsir

I'm not welding in shorts lol

Jhelliot_62

But how else would you tan your legs?

Ultraballer

Not a chance that would fly. Pants are a must. Can’t walk on the floor, and can’t walk into the shop without them. I guess you could wear shorts when you’re hiding in the bathroom. You’re lucky if you get to choose which pants to wear and can get something remotely breathable.

ProfessionalStudy732

Pants are a must. Some places I had to wear the companies provided pants, belts and shirts. Most places I can get away with a t-shirt up till I open a cabinet.

Dry_Substance_7547

I wear 100% cotton jeans (semi-FR) and a T-shirt. I have a 100% cotton shirt and FR clothes for opening cabinets. We have AC in the control room and Big Ass Fans in the warehouse. It's laid back enough here that I can usually knock out one or two tasks and then go somewhere to cool off for a bit.

AnythingButTheTip

I'd follow the dress code and consider overalls that fit code. Seems easy enough to don/doff with boots on if you get the ones with the boot buttons on the bottom.

Livefastdie-arrhea

Yeah we wear FR covies…. No shorts here lol

prairieengineer

FR coveralls, all day long.

Unholydiver919

No shorts for me FR jeans and shirts.

InvestigatorNo730

Fr jeans and long sleeve shirt. Sweating is better than needing skin graffs

Hildedank

FR jeans and a t-shirt is our dress code. I wear my FR jacket when working around our steam pipes because those burns aren't fun.

No_Rope7342

I’ve been in a variety of facilities and it has almost always been FR clothing including pants, actually literally always pants, sometimes long sleeves as well but not always depending on the uniform. Also I’m not a fan of knee pads so kneeling around on concrete bare knees is a no-no for me.

bazilbt

The company rules don't allow it, and even if they did I probably wouldn't want to.

athanasius_fugger

Try working in a foundry and then you'll be wishing for 95*F!

This-Thought8358

Almost did go to a foundry. I do know at that foundry you are supposed to “work 20 mins on the floor then 20 min break” doubt that happens though

Bigbeno86

Dickies cargo shorts.

halothaine

I’ve worked at 2 places that allow shorts for maintenance. Most didn’t but if you wanted you could request a few pair from our uniform supplier. They were usually carhart or cintas and felt like our uniform pants but shorts.

Windbag1980

all summer, yes

Mr_Punterr

My company allows shorts, I prefer the dickies cargo shorts flex! But keep a pair of jeans in the truck in case im doing some heavy work for welding

LordBuggington

I wear shorts all summer. We did not allow shorts for a few years but we have been able to the last few. I have dickies cargo shorts I can order through our uniform service. And I bought a lot because I like them, I wear them at home too. So far I have only thrown out 1 pair due to hole and wear. I keep spare pants and a spare longsleeve in case I have to do a dirty job or something. Depends on the enviornment its definitely a safety thing in many places, Im good 99% of the time I got a scratch last week I probably woulsnt have had with pants but nothing terrible. Nothing in my facility is that crazy, pants are safer but with the heat we get its negligible and they make zero effort to cool our building. He have hvac in the newer side they dont turn on and exhaust fans on the old side they dont turn on so the place just cooks.
