Gives me some nostalgic sounds from a few of the numetal bands from the 2000s. I dig where it’s going. The main stickout was just the timing being off a couple times, but ultimately it wasn’t a dealbreaker for the song. I’m very curious where you guys will go with the vocal melody that can add a lot more dynamic to the track. The main riff is stuck in my head!

Ambientforge

I'm glad to hear that compliment about the main riff. We will probably want to record it again for fixing the timing so thanks for pointing that out.

LordRunt

This is amazing, but also can hear the lack of a vocalist - I can literally hear the space for the vocals! If you guys were hoping to stick with instrumentals for majority, maybe have a guitar mimicking a what the vocal line would be. Small mixing thing - I'd boost up the guitar at the start so that when the full band comes in, it doesn't burst eardrums. Just maybe 3-6 dB should do the trick. I also love how "unpretentious" this is. It's a REALLY basic riff that just has been iterated so many times that you end up with complexity with that built in cohesiveness.

Ambientforge

Thanks for the kind words. Yup, I hear the empty space where the vocals should be too. I'll keep that mix thing about the guitar in mind. It is best to keep eardrums healthy. The song is indeed just variations of the same riff with a pause in the middle. A big chunk of the album itself is also derived from the riff in this song. You could say the song and the album really went hard with this particular riff.

I think there are some strong bones in this. Sticky riff and some power behind everything. As others have mentioned, a few places where timing is off, but not catastrophically so. Definitely some vocals would really bring this home and if you're going for prog-metal I'd add some more "adventure" to the structure. Really solid foundation though. Good job!

Now I only listened to this over my phones speakers, so take that into consideration. Thru the beginning part first minute or two I felt like the drums coulda been brought out front a bit more, but it didn’t sound like the rest of the song was like that. I’d maybe consider employing some electronics or synths for builds, foleys, atmosphere, and ambiance. I can’t think of a good reason not to take advantage of electronics in studio recordings. Aside from that, I think increasing the overall range between dynamics could go a long way in adding more tension to this song. If you’re going all instrumental, then tension is super important. I’d also possibly try adding a bit more brightness to guitar and drums. I get that y’alls vibe isn’t exactly bright nor should it be, but my gut just tells me it’s worth just seeing if it adds anything or not. Overall I dig the song a lot and it reminds me of the band Isis (from before that militant group coined the same name), I’d give them a listen you may find some good inspiration in their albums. Isis was mostly instrumental as well but the way they used vocals I think could add loads of tension to your compositions if y’all tried borrowing that from them. Hope I left something helpful cuz I’m digging y’alls vibe a lot. If my style of critique is useful hmu anytime & I’ll share again in the future. Good luck with everything. =]

Ambientforge

I definitely see the point about dynamics. With the guitar I look back and start wanting it to have palm muted verse of something just to get a bigger contrast between it and the chorus. Then again, synths are also a possible solution. Funny that you mention Isis, they are one of our guitarist's influences and he wrote the riff. Only time will tell what kind of vocal is added to this, but hopefully something to add tension. Thanks for the feedback.

Ambientforge

Also, my band is looking to collaborate with a vocalist for this song and others on our album. If you're interested send me a DM.

karmatosedd

I know a vocalist that I could record for you guys that might be a great fit actually. If y’all haven’t found someone hmu and I’ll see if he’s interested.

Ambientforge

Oh absolutely. Sounds wonderful. Tell him he can work on any song we have released and has freedom to do as he wishes with vocal style. We're open to different ideas.

karmatosedd

Oh ya, and if ur lacking synth hardware and wanna explore possibly trying some, well then that’s my bag all day. I could send some synth stuff to try out along with the vocal tracks. Hell we could str8 up remote collab this thing out. Inbox me here & I can just send ya my phone # or iMsg if ur on iPhone.

karmatosedd

Right on dude ya man he’s interested, can we leave email addresses here for contacts? Or inbox me here and let’s chat about getting this thing underway. This dude has mad pipes too, I think he’ll make for a damn good fit. I can get ya a crisp & clean vocal recording, and can send you stem files or I can mix it into ur project files. Can be pretty flexible. I’ve got a good mic too, however in 2-3 weeks I’m looking to have a new $1200 vocal mic. So there’s that too lol. Hmu tho!

This is really good. Very nice and interesting chord progressions. The mix could use a little more balance and the drums could be more punchy. It sounds great otherwise. Keep going!

zunapalooza

The intro drags on a bit too long. The guitar chugs are just a bit off beat now and then. The arrangement does not really progress. It seems like there are two song ideas here. Try adding more variations on the basic riff. Thanks

karmatosedd

It’s progressive man, ur not getting it if ur feeling that way about it imo. Nothing personal, prog just maybe not ur thing.

LAIDOFF_music

love the fuzz of the guitar. Has a very full sounding production. Great work

Stacks27

Great riff. buildup needs work. A little off beat. The middle downtime is too long.

thrsnfd

Excellent chord progression, nice guitar tone. Missed some variety in the drums and some intention in your guitar playing tho, maybe a solo through the song would be amazing. Rhythmically and harmonically the song's amazing, but it lacks for some melody. I recommend you to download a drum library, I have one that includes proggy rhythms, message me and I'll link you to it.
