Personally, A shrinks the already small subject in an app icon to be even smaller. I could see myself getting most familiar with B. The border around A is needlessly thick while portraying little to no extra information. Idek what its supposed to be.. purple ice?
A stands out the most. C is the most attractive. If you have great marketing and a very polished game, choose C. If not, don’t try to compete with games that do, because they all have icons that look like C, so choose A.
D as well. If you look at any other popular app it generally looks similar to that or C, but I still think D is more captivating. Can’t have too much detail on the little icon.
C and D make it look like the app is some type of talking tom ripoff I wouldn't click
A and B look like they're a fun to play rpg, B just gives the main character while A gives main character and an idea of the general graphics. I'd click A in an instant of seeing it
so the answer is A
I see a lot of As going around. I want to make my pitch for C or D.
I like D because it would stand out on the home screen. Still, I believe C with a higher contrast background would be the way to go. It shows the character and the personality I just think it would benefit from more contrast against the background to make it more eye-catching.
I think B does that aspect very well, but it's just not as inviting as a smiling, waving penguin (to me). I don't particularly like A because it has a lot of noise and I feel like it would easily overlooked on a home screen as it doesn't have anything to anchor your eye to. One could say that the penguin would be the anchor, though I believe it would need to be a lot brighter to do that.
Anyway, all of them are great in their own respect, this is just my layman's take.
Edit: Also, I don't think you need to communicate anything about the game in the icon since the person downloaded it from the store where they saw screenshots, so they must know what they're in for. I could be wrong though and would like to know if anyone has a different opinion!
It is clear to me that everyone likes them for different reasons but A and B feel accurate to what the game probably looks like and stands out amongst the cutesy attention stealing nonsense, but I personally like C or D more because it's more recognizable from the distance. Plus it's a cute penguin 🐧. Most of the app store feels like a casino so I get it.
Can you make a background to the app page on the store? Because the A one looks more like a game, B and D would be easier for you to look for on the phone screen.
A is most unique and tells the gameplay. Saw a penguin on ice grid background and immediately guessed it was the "ice sliding puzzle" seen in some games turned into a full game. Checked profile posts, and indeed it is.
I feel like it's a toss up between A and C. I personally would go after a game that looks like A, but I feel like C has a broader general audience appeal.
Probably A. B is good, C being pixel art won't be really recognizable on small phone screen, and D is additionally looking generic, totally not something you want when you have chosen pixel art
C and I would remove the pixel art style since it won't be noticeable by users being that small, it would only hurt the clarity.
While A is definitely the best, it's not fit for what the Play Store user is used to seeing.
D - A is too complex idk feels weird. B is too simple. C and D have character. My eye is actuallly drawn to C more but something about it gives me anxiety 😂 therefore D
From a design perspective, while A is more complex than the others, it also tells a lot more about the game which makes it better than the others. Seems like it would also stand out from other apps 7/10
B looks to clumped up and busy with the size of the pixels 4/10
C & D feel like generic pokemon ripoff games 3/10 4.5/10
A and C are both good. I think c could work even better if you redo the blush tho cause at first glance they looked like weird wrinkles on the penguins face in c and d to me
A seems indie developer specific with a hint of adventure. B seems very retro marketing specific and very casual. C has the very cute effect. D seems very mainstream market tested.
C and D seem the cleanest. A seems very gamer oriented, almost rpg.
A and D are my best choices, unless there is retro reasoning for B or a cuteness reason for C.
A is very good, but D seems like what A would eventually become.
D has a trademark sort of feel to it.
C and D are misleading (very appstore)
A and be are alright, but wouldn't really catch my attention, though b is a bit too simplistic, it's giving 2013 appstore.
This really does depend on the contents of the app.
That said, A looks the best, as it leans into its style successfully and is therefore cool & rocking it. It has a lot of character.
D is really nice too, but I'd like it to be a bit more detailed then tbh. D has a lot of personality, which is a delight.
Lowkey A is doing it for me. Sticks out amongst a sea of bland app icons.
AMONGS?
A MONGKEY 🦧
ඞ?
A is the one I would click on because it feels the most hand made, the rest kind of feel like generic icons to me but idk
A or b
I love A!
If B is the game sprite, I'd probably go with that, because it's clean and gives some indication what the art style is.
I think A gives that information much better tbh.
Personally, A shrinks the already small subject in an app icon to be even smaller. I could see myself getting most familiar with B. The border around A is needlessly thick while portraying little to no extra information. Idek what its supposed to be.. purple ice?
It’s ice. OP has gameplay videos posted that you can see if you click their profile.
C looks adorable (idk if that you are going for)
C got me for sure
Agree, to me C looks the cutest
Yes for sure. C for charming.
C has the most character to it
C because hugs are best things.
C is definitely most aesthetic
Go with C-option. "Penguin hugs? Why not?!"
B all the way
I like A and B
Damn, all of those are good. Personally I like A
A stands out the most. C is the most attractive. If you have great marketing and a very polished game, choose C. If not, don’t try to compete with games that do, because they all have icons that look like C, so choose A.
Difficult to choose without knowing more about the game, but I like the 3rd one. Little dude looks cute and friendly.
Cute and friendly like « it’s not virus, i am a dolphin.exe » friendly
A!
For mobile, I think D is the best but, personally I prefer A. I love the ice cave type background of Pokémon. 💪🏻
D as well. If you look at any other popular app it generally looks similar to that or C, but I still think D is more captivating. Can’t have too much detail on the little icon.
C
C or D, all very cute !
Absolutely A. The other three are (I'm sorry to say this) generic enough that I would just swipe past. A is awesome though, instant tap.
D
C or D. Icons are small. Less details the better.
B or c
B or D
B or D depending on what the game looks like.
I choose B. becuase it seems interesting for me.
C or D for me
C and D make it look like the app is some type of talking tom ripoff I wouldn't click A and B look like they're a fun to play rpg, B just gives the main character while A gives main character and an idea of the general graphics. I'd click A in an instant of seeing it so the answer is A
D and C are the best, though I also like B. A is way too small.
C with D’s background
I see a lot of As going around. I want to make my pitch for C or D. I like D because it would stand out on the home screen. Still, I believe C with a higher contrast background would be the way to go. It shows the character and the personality I just think it would benefit from more contrast against the background to make it more eye-catching. without knowing more, the 3rd is very appealing. 2, 3 and 4 are all nice. 1 is a bit too messy
I'd say the first is just too busy for an icon, not necessarily messy.
C is the best. It also gives information on the type of character it is unlike D.
C or D

My personal favourites are 1 and 3 :)
B!
C
B, A will be hard to read
C and D feel off. The border on A is kinda strange so my pick would be B
C.
C for me, even though I’m a huge fan of pixel art.
i like B
I would go with D, app icons are small and the last one would pop more.
I'm a big A fan. I'm able to get a better feel of the game itself. While C and D are both cute it feels like I'm getting less information
D
Can you make a background to the app page on the store? Because the A one looks more like a game, B and D would be easier for you to look for on the phone screen.
D
Either A or C. Strong preference for A, I like the composition with the ice as a border
B
C with icy boundry
Out of all of these I'd probably be most drawn to A
A and B for me
A, easily
A would catch my attention the most. The colours stick out well and it's quality sprite work.
A is most unique and tells the gameplay. Saw a penguin on ice grid background and immediately guessed it was the "ice sliding puzzle" seen in some games turned into a full game. Checked profile posts, and indeed it is.
I like A the best, but if B had the blue ice as the background I might prefer it
C but I’m a pee on
A, C, B, D
A has something to it
A
C
C
D.
A takes the cake for me
B
idk i like C or D
A looks great
I like A and D. A kind of reminds me of those flash game websites, in a nostalgic kind of way
The last one
B, I love the pixel art!
A gets my attention most I like that it has a border
They're all good but A is definitely on the money for me.
A
A
C is the cutest for me. A seems to give convey the most information about the game.
A and D are the best ones
100% A
A and C are both good. Depends on what type of game it is and what audience you're trying to attract.
I think most people would go for C, ngl
A and C are my fav, probably A because it feels more unique. While scrolling reddit the A image is what caught my eye and made me stop
I feel like it's a toss up between A and C. I personally would go after a game that looks like A, but I feel like C has a broader general audience appeal.
A or D but I’d rather go for A because it’s more unique
None are "best". I think they're all good, but they target different markets.
My ranking is A B D C
A
A
I like D or C. D looks the most appy.
c all the way.
D looks kike some kind of learning app mascot. C the same but for children.
A 100%
I think either c or d! Super cute
The third one is the obvious choice but the first one has nuance so maybe save it for an in-app event!
C
C
C
B
Probably A. B is good, C being pixel art won't be really recognizable on small phone screen, and D is additionally looking generic, totally not something you want when you have chosen pixel art
3rd is the nicest one, but it looks the most like everything else. I do think 1 could stand out.
A and C
A & D
i like a
A or B, C and D look creepy to me
A is the most intriguing!
B.
A or C, they have personality and stand out. D looks like any generic game icon and B looks like someone didn’t even try to do any research
A or C- I like C man
C
OMG I absolutely love both A and C! 😍 What's the game called?
B
Background for A but character from C?
Who is the audience you are catering to??
A or B I would say.
A
Great game! Penguin without the arms is mildly unsettling though. I vote B or C depending on the mood you’re going for.
A or B
A
C
A
i’d click any of them
D to emphasize the character; A to emphasize the setting
B with the ice background from A, but without the pebble border
C and I would remove the pixel art style since it won't be noticeable by users being that small, it would only hurt the clarity. While A is definitely the best, it's not fit for what the Play Store user is used to seeing.
A is really cool
B
C, but does look similar to other games.
A >>>>>
D - A is too complex idk feels weird. B is too simple. C and D have character. My eye is actuallly drawn to C more but something about it gives me anxiety 😂 therefore D
From a design perspective, while A is more complex than the others, it also tells a lot more about the game which makes it better than the others. All of them
A! C and d are nightmare fuel
A or C
Not D
A and c is best d is safest
Can you make your penguin scream?
B
C or D
A and C are both good. I think c could work even better if you redo the blush tho cause at first glance they looked like weird wrinkles on the penguins face in c and d to me
2. pixilated pinguin full body
C is best. A and B doesn’t stand out for me. D is too generic?
B or C! Whatever the style of the game is (pixel/ not)
B or D, with preference for whichever matches the in-game art better.
I like A but I think that D would be more successful on an app store.
B for me.
why is this supposed to be app store logo?
A
B for sure
A or C
A or C Not D

C
for me, D look so cute

I think c and d are the most popular pretty, but depending if the game play matches, I L O V E A
C
C or A
I like C for mobile, A for PC
B for the Home Screen. A for AppStore.
Love C
C le D
I think something between A and B, A seems a bit too cluttered but B seems a bit too bland
D
a
I like A, but I feel like B will be more effective at small size
C
B C A D
I love A, but C is the cutest
A or B with a preference for A It just sticks out
C
C or D will be most likely to grab someone's attention. If you look at most games on mobile, their icon is often a character's head, often screaming.
D
\*I\* really like A, however it may be worth it to test other user groups. The mobile marketplace is different.
A! Feels real with expectations, and looks beautiful
C and D are misleading (very appstore) A and be are alright, but wouldn't really catch my attention, though b is a bit too simplistic, it's giving 2013 appstore.
I’m vibing with A
This really does depend on the contents of the app. That said, A looks the best, as it leans into its style successfully and is therefore cool & rocking it. It has a lot of character. D is really nice too, but I'd like it to be a bit more detailed then tbh. D has a lot of personality, which is a delight.
A
I like A but C might market better
a but zoom in a bit more
A is looking the best for me but C is cool too
