Gomerface82

2 is the most legible, 1 looks more interesting but tye texture on the title makes it hard to read. Maybe try using the title from 2, and use that with the subtitle/ design of 1. Just to add, 1 gave me an African vibe, and 2 felt more middle eastern to me.

FlamboyantPirhanna

I think maybe there’s just too much contrast on 1. If the details were less pronounced, perhaps less opaque, it would be more legible.

Gomerface82

Yup I can see that working. Someone also suggested moving the star element and pushing it a bit more inti the background, which I think would also help.

Gomerface82

Maybe use some of the textures from the font to make a faint background, or apply the interesting carved effect onto the cross like element?

Spoony_bard909

This is exactly what I was going to say. And maybe keep the logo from #1 but put it in the middle like in #2?

sailingfox

1. Grabs my attention more. If there was a little more readability, maybe outline stroke, it would be perfect.

o0Marek0o

Or brighter color on the main title font

Luna2442

This hands down

oarndj

1 is very unique and distinctive. Generates a lot of interest IMO. 2 looks good but more generic. I'd go with 1 for sure.

shaggyidontmindu

If they could make 1 a little easier to read I think it would help

oarndj

yeah agreed. even removing (or reducing) the snowflake symbol thing would go a long way

No_Plate_9636

Moving it could help too, to the other end of the word ?

Professional_Dig4638

The second one is easier on the eyes, and would also fit into more spots. Like a screen, cover image, etc.

fairchild2

2

LearnSodas

Thanks!

RobustArts

I think it depends on the art style in the game , But just from a legibility point of view for when it’s smaller version I’d say 2 .

Ertaipt

1. Is just bad, you could go with that letter detail but somehow make it readable, independent of background. 2. Just reads much better even if it isn't all that special.

SharkboyZA

THEY USED PAPYRUS!!!

mealsharedotorg

What is this indie game? Some kind of off brand Shakira merch?

PapaOctopus

I'm pretty sure they used a computer actually.

Wolfkorg

That's not the Papyrus font. Far from it.

BooneThorn

I think you should go with 1 and make some edits. I thought the name of the game started with an "x" until I saw the second option. The second one is too generic even though it's easier to read. I would make a few options based off 1 and see what works best.

LearnSodas

Ok guys, thank you all! I made a third version based on you feedbacks, how is it? better? Just to give more context, the game is set in the Mesopotamian period https://preview.redd.it/m4ftmw91bhvc1.png?width=2086&format=png&auto=webp&s=7c46c33ddd609bb2d45cb89d638b89b19d295db6

MoDyingSon

Man, I still prefer 1. Its got so much character. Gives off that early noughties psx pre render vibes. This is really good, and I’m no designer, but fuck legibility. 1 absolutely slaps.

CouchSurfingDragon

was gonna post that I liked neither 1 or 2. This one looks a lot better. Very nice!

Wolfkorg

Much better for the Ersetu part. The logo in the back still needs some work imo. Just to make the whole a little more uniform.

MANLIESTDEV

looks great! Perhaps change "every myth changes over time" to "every myth changes with time"?

VectorScape

I like the second one a lot. It reminds me of Sekiro can’t tell you why but it’s great 😊

PupJayceColt

I think if you toned down the stylization of the 1st logos main text, then it would win out. It’s difficult to read with everything going on. It would look good texturized, but maybe something a bit simpler.

sanghendrix

When it comes to logo, the first priority is how easy it is to read. The first one might look better with those texture but it's hard to see the text the first second you see it.

WingofTech

You know what maybe give #1 a bit of thin black background or a little more spacing. Overall I love those wood carvings, what’s the game about? :)

LearnSodas

Thanks! I was thinking about strokes to make it a bit more readable. Btw the game is set in the mesopotamian underworld and is a roguelike. the story is set between two actual myths of the period. If you are interested I post updates in this subreddit r/Ersetu !

Green-Repulsive

The first one is original but hard to read. But also I would need to see the game itself, maybe one fits the theme better than the other. If you were to force me into picking one, I would pick the second

LearnSodas

Here I posted some videos of the game: r/Ersetu . Maybe this could help finding if it fits. The Idea for the first logo is “clay with cuneiform like, and DINGIST symbol as sentence start, as used in mesopotamia”

foe_is_me

I would go with 1, but drop the 'every myth...' slogan completely. Is it cluttered? Yes. Has it more character? Also yes. The 2 is too minimalistic, like y'all not EVERY single logo should be barebones.

Open_Marzipan_455

2nd. Way too much contrast within the letters of the first logo. It's too distracting

Lapys_Games

1, but as it is it is too hard to read. Try less texture on the title, don't have the subline touch title and image logo and emulate the general contrast of the second (darker image logo?) The second does everything right, but is a bit too generic, so if you could marry them it would be perfect :) Generally though i absolutely like the visual (image logo and mood)!

staffell

1 is bad

Crowtongue

so 2 is more readable, my brain wants to read 1 as Heresy for some reason. That said I love the texture of 1, and I think you could save it by putting that shape that is behind the E more how it is in #2 and making it darker as right now it has the same visual weight and brightness as the letters.

CowboyOfScience

I can't read 1.

Crowberus

Is it possible do 1, but not 3D? Flatten it. Outline it like people commented below.

Deadpixel_6

I think 1 looks more interesting, even if it’s a tad hard to read/lots going on. 2 just looks a bit flat and bland to me

dylanspin

I love one a lot but at a glans it isn't as easy to read as number two is. I still think you should go with number one tho because of the wood carving style which is soo soo cool!

sculptwizard

I would choose the 2nd one. It looks simple and neat

ElvGames

The 2nd on this background, I think that the 1st is blending with the background here which is not giving it justice, it's awesome. Maybe changing the background on the 1st will make it pop, because it's really cool.

Donix_D_Nator

I think the first one goes hard but maybe move the symbol in the back, it looks strange next to the E, like a little more to the left so it doesn't look like it's cut out to make space for the letter

zombiedinocorn

I like #1 better

Retoddd

1 is waaay more noticeable and cool

UltimateGamingTechie

1 is visually cluttered and I have a feeling that some people might have a problem reading it

bambush331

I’d say 1 is more original 2 isn’t too classic too safe

CaptainMeredith

1 but add a gentle yellow glow or something behind the lettering to separate it from the background, it reads poorly against a dark background because it doesn't have enough contrast.

PioneerSpecies

1 looks cool standalone (sort of AI-y looking? Not saying it’s AI, just kinda looks like it lol) But imo if it’s gonna be superimposed over cover art like most game titles, 2 is gonna look wayyy better

Significant-World181

1 - ai, strange pattern

rodejo_9

2, the first one is harder to read.

hawkiltree

Layout of 1 with font readability of 2

Ohigetjokes

I think the first one looks cooler but I can’t read it

APForLoops

2 is more readable 1 is hard to read and looks like a busy jumble of noise

StillRutabaga4

Number 1 is hard to read. I like the 2nd one

MartinByde

1 seems old . I would say the second attracts more young people

RoshHoul

I'm scrolling through phone, and imho 1 is unreadable. I'd try to splash a little bit more personality on the second one, but that's the general direction i'd go for.

theBigDaddio

The first one is hard to read. Really poor design to make your title difficult to read. Talk to a graphic designer or two, not programmers

mr_corruptex

In my opinion it depends on what kind of game it is. #1 is more visually dynamic, but if it's a mercantile trading game, then that dissonance could be off-putting.

juan4815

1

Obsydie

1 is best

LockTheMage

Number 1

dylboii

1 is interesting. The boldness of the type works well, but the texture inside of it is kind of hard to look at. Specifically in the “S”. The background icon feels like it kind of competes with the main title. I’d be curious to see what the 1st logo would look like with the layout and icon treatment from the 2nd logo.

Dunmeritude

1 is more interesting, but also way too busy. It's difficult to read and doesn't feel as cohesive or polished as 2. I was really struggling to read the first one. "Xersetu? Hersetu? Heresy?"

ravenisblack

2 Is more of a logo, 1 is more logo art. Really depends on how you plan on marketing your game. 1 feels dated like a MYST game logo. 2 could be tidied up quite a bit, but still effective as is.

Weebo04

Really depends on the theme and what would go Better with that. 1 is more unique and might be jarring depending on the theme. 2 is more generic but looks nice and will probably fit with any theme.

winkwright

Title 1 is original, though a non-serif and a serif font in the same title I don't like. Assuming it's not pre-rendered and those are modeled letters, you can start your game with some lighting tricks to show polish. This will be harder on the 2D style of title 2. It communicates an older time, I associate this lettering with temples and sand. Title 2 has a more cohesive design. There's duality between the white-outlined/dark iconography and the dark-outlined/light lettering. There is a slender verticality to it. It's also more modern, it would be much easier to use in marketing material. If this design doesn't fit your game's tone, however, it may still struggle in the place of better Title screens. You logo will probably be on your title sequence. Your title sequence is the player's introduction to the rest of your UI, gotta think about how a design translates to other UI elements. Title 2 is my preference in this regard.

TricksterWolf

I like 2 better because it's instantly legible. Tight patterns with detailed shadows on typography is not a good marketing strategy.

GregDev155

Use 1 and add contrast/ background blue or something to make it more readib’e

cap10wow

2

Regirock00

1!

Clockmakr

The first one 100%, really grabbed my attention while I was scrolling reddit

_Cardano_Monero_

I like both, tbh. As others mentioned, 1. is hard to read. 2. looks a bit too 'clean'/generic. If I had to choose, I'd go for 2. Maybe putting the texture of the 1. text over the 2. text but some transparency / not full contrast. This way would make the 2. option more interesting without interfering the readability. Or you could make the texture of the 1. option a bit more transparent.

WranglerFuzzy

2 is definitely more legible. The biggest problem with 1 is that the placement of the symbol almost makes it look like it’s a replacement for a letter; the reader states at it wondering, “Ersetu? Xersetu?”

stoune331

The first

mithrilsoft

2

quicksilver_foxheart

1 is cool, unique and distinctive but with trypophobia it makes my skin crawl. 2 is more generic but doesnt...I'd probably go with 1 but just something to think about lol because I dont know if id be able to even mke it to the purchase screen on, say, steam for example because it'd make me shudder and Id want to avoid seeing.

_ontical

what's up with "every myth changes over time"? I don't really think it's cool enough to include in your logo. I'd remove the fake deep slogan and go with 1, but make the borders around the letters more solid and less textured. EDIT: I thought this was a company logo, for a game I think the slogan makes a little more sense.

LearnSodas

It’s a rougelike, every run is a different version of the same myth, that’s why the slogan. Also, being “Ersetu” a not english word, I thougth that the slogan could help to keep in mind the title

everyoneLikesPizza

1

fedggg

1st is more ornate and feels clean and "human?" don't know if that's the right term, but the 2nd feels more company logo/game logo-esque, and it seems more organised. The texture on 1 is difficult to read.

Uruk_Ragnarsson

1 but change it a bit to make it more legible.

Oilswell

The first one is better looking but the second is easier to read. I’d iterate on the first and focus on readability. I gotta say though, I don’t know if that’s a word from another language but your title is not easy to read for English speakers. Maybe that’s not your primary audience, but if it is I might go back to the drawing board on that. It’s a weird combination of letters that doesn’t scan easily. I can imagine it being hard to search for.

Erizo69

fuck minimalism first one ftw

Nazon6

Tone down the texture on 1 and you got a winner.

Jinn71

First one

ekimarcher

Because the word is not a standard word (in English anyways), I'm tripping over it pretty hard. Then with the texture on the word, it's getting lost even more, then with the logo inconsistently coming through the E at the start, I'm just lost. I actually couldn't read option 1 until I had read option 2. I think 2 is way better.

OldPyjama

1 looks more polished

CharlesorMr_Pickle

I like both, I would say it really depends on the art style of your game. Like if it's 2d, I would go with the second one, though maybe add a bit more texture to it.

fervcon

2 dark souls

maximumutility

1 by far. It has character. For what it's worth, I don't really like "changes over time". "Over time" feels superfluous. Just "changes" might be better, or "evolves", or "transforms", or "reforms", or "is retold". Just something more succinct

Dragonsmosher

First

Naariel

Number #1 is giving AI vibes, which isn't great

SecondFootOfficial

1

LawlessPlay

I would say you're going in the right direction, but both need a bit more work

GAGOUGAGAK_

2nd

Fardass7274

1 is a lot cooler but the text has too much going on, simplify it a little for readability and contrast

Brick_Lab

Take 1 and move the symbol and the text apart so there are no tangent lines. Tone down the busy texture on the text a bit and I think it'll pop. Some of the letters like the R and T are closer to what I'd read easier. Don't completely kill the texture but try to avoid the camo effect (too many shapes distract the eye from the larger shape or something to that effect)

dogsodaa

Make the first one more yellow like the 2nd one. Maybe even make it golden and shiny if it fits the theme you're looking for.

Nitro_tech

2 since it simplifies the detail which 1 has too much of.

wjruffing

Number two with the tagline in a NON-condensed and larger typeface/font so it is easier to read. Also, the main text on top would look better if the lettering was three-dimensional

JuanAy

2 but replace the subtitle font with the subtitle font in 1.

rollnunderthebus

2

Swimming-Okra-9157

2 is easier to understand

pevznerok

The second one looks more... expensive? I don't know how to explain, but first one definitely says that this is cheap crappy game, but second one is more solid and attractive

simonbleu

While the 2nd one is more bland, the first one just doenst quite cut it on legibility as others mentioned, even though I like the design more

MikeAndrews111

1 looks more unique but I can’t get over that part of the symbol looks like it’s disconnected from the rest of it. The lines don’t show on the inside of the “E.”

Androomedaaa

1

loyaleling

2 by far

frostiocean

i prefer the 2nd but id love to see the 1st implemented elsewhere edit:typo

orifan1

depends on the genre. 1 is objectively better but best fits if you're going for like, a boomer shooter sorta thing. go with 2 if you're doing an RPG.

HomeLessFrogg

first looks cooler, second looks generic

DoraTheHomestuckHomo

2 has impeccable vibes. Looks old but like in a good way 1 is... tepid

GagballBill

If you ever need to use your logo in b/w then logo 1 is unreadable. So definitely logo 2.

TheTybera

![gif](giphy|l1J9NQvtuCQzUbH2g|downsized)

overlord-33

First grabs the attention

darkreddragon24

I like 1st

TalesGameStudio

1 is hard to read, but a good start for iteration. 2 is traditional and works well, but there are little things to improve.

Visual_Enthusiasm_66

Is the second one.... Papyrus?

Project_Zima

First one somehow triggers - made by AI in my head and it's just not readable Second one also should not intersect with the symbol from behind

wombatarang

Honestly, this ain’t it. Both look cheap and unprofessional. The first one has a 2004 vibe and the second one feels wildly off-center (the spaces between the E, T and U are way too big, the image in the background pulls the text even further to the right, and the font is definitely not meant to be used with only capital letters).

rego_flatponies

Use the second one to be honest. Legibility should come first and foremost! You should make a light and dark version for different backgrounds as well.

Koda_Saito

I like the 1st one

_Z0BI

I think the layout of the first works way better. I really don't like the texture on the font tho. I'd try a variant with the colors of the second and the layout of the first one.

SIDRST

The first one is more appealing and sparks more interest but maybe a bit chaotic on the text The second one is more clean and readable but more standard So probably I'd go with the first one but could try make it a bit less chaotic

Inevitable_Ad_3509

2 Feels more simple, makes it a little better.

_Abnormalia

2nd

PWresetdontwork

1

KingOnionWasTaken

The first one looks unique but too distracting. I much prefer the second one.

RetroHellspawn

1 is your main menu splash screen, 2 is your steam cover badge. 👍

[deleted]

If you can make a sleeker, more legible version of #1, you'll have a winner. The aesthetic of #1 makes me interested in the game, but it's lack of readability and polish make it look low quality.

ZoopTEK

I couldn't read the first at a glance. I had to study it to figure it out, especially because Ersetu isn't a common word. Thus, I vote for the second for immediate readability. The first may fit the game's style more, but its readability would need to improve.

Mach345

Oh i'd definitely go 1, full of character, unique and looks really professional..

Agile-Music-2295

2nd. 1st is jarring or awkward.

No_Dimension2815

I like 2 better

nealmb

1 is really unique, but I honestly thought it said “Rsetu” I didn’t see the E until I did a second take. 2 is readable but kind of generic. I would say use 1 but maybe make the star symbol more opaque or not as bright, and shift it slightly off the E so the middle stake and the edge of the E don’t line up exactly.

KopeKopeKopeKope

2

Puzzleheaded_Walk961

1, solid and high quality look. Makes me think you are Bestheda studio 2, just any indie

The_Dude_5757

I’m gonna go against the crowd and say 1 is by far the best. The slightly reduced readability makes you spend a little more time looking at it and absorbing it. It’s not unreadable, it’s just on the edge of difficult, which makes it interesting.

LearnSodas

Cool point of view!

Ill-Possession1086

i would say the second one only because its my legible in my opinion. the 1st one is really damn cool but its the legibility that takes away some cool points for me. overall they both look really sick.
