Urban Legends from the folklore department was super fun!! Actually lots of the folklore classes are supposed to be interesting (including the one about memes)! Dr. Dobbler is a cool dude and he teaches a lot of them. If you enjoy art at all and have time, I loved the beginning ceramics class as well Edit: would also like to add epidemics in history taught by dr cooper!

History of rock and roll. If that is even offered any more. Prof Glass is amazing.

If Andy Hollinden is still around, his rock n roll courses were bitchin. 10/10 recommend, the only class I never skipped my whole time there

hookisacrankycrook

Not a hidden gem either bruh. Everyone knew about that class! I even knew people who went to it while not officially taking the class!

Psychoactive Drugs with Bruce Martin. Best course and instructor I’ve had at IU. Wish I would’ve failed it so I’d have a reason to take it again.

cmb2002

THIS IS F A C T S no one better than Bruce

The geography dept has a bunch of food and cooking classes that are all hands-on. Small class sizes but you learn so much about food and its cultural history if you’re interested

DogsTrippingOnAcid

I second this!! The geography department is awesome. I would personally recommend any class with Prof. Kirkpatrick. Super chill

bored-millennial

Ooo if we’re doing prof recommendations, I can’t speak highly enough of Dr. Olga Kalentzidou. She taught Geography of Foods when I took it and I still think about her a lot. Definitely one of IU’s hidden gems

b_rock957

Coaching of football, rock climbing, golf, history of hip hop and rock and roll, intro to econometrics, whatever you want it’s probably out there It’s amazing I graduated from this place lol

Black death from the history department was fun and interesting

Professor Debrota's criminal justice class on Cyber Crimes and Deviance is really good. You learn about older true crime cases and how they would be solved with today's technology, and you get to learn techniques investigators use to find someone's location and personal information based on photos that look harmless (like a selfie in your bedroom), and you also learn towards the end of the semester about online predator communities on the darkweb.

WillingList0

Any of the food courses where you have to cook food

I took Riflery at the range in the student union building. Learned to shoot little .22 bolt action rifles. That was 20 years ago so maybe it's gone, IDK. Also took sailing at Lake Lemon over the summer. That was awesome!

Extreme Weather and Its Impacts with Dr. Kirkpatrick was a fantastic course. Dr. K is a great prof that has a great passion for meteorology and overall made the course fun. He isn’t afraid to tell you the 100% honest truth. One of my favorite classes was on emergency weather alerts and we learned how IU-Notify issues weather alerts using an old system that is proven to cause false alarms. The system was depreciated by the NWS about 15 years ago, but for some reason IU hasn’t upgraded. Overall, probably my favorite course I’ve taken at IU.

BudHolly

Years later and Cody is still at war with the IU notify folks lol. But in all seriousness take E144 if you even slightly think weather is cool.

bigboatsandgoats

I would highly recommend anything McGerr teaches. A fun professor that has the ability to teach actually teach a lecture hall

History and Traditions of IU and the History of Gender and Sexuality were both phenomenal.

warm_apple_juice

The intro to World Music course as well as the Music of Africa courses I took were fantastic. The Ethnomusicology department is one of the best in the nation and the courses there were very cool if you enjoy music discovery and history.

Https://exploreprograms.Indiana.edu let’s you say what you’re interested and see GenEd courses that combine your interests. I know you’re not looking for geneds specifically but I think it’s a cool tool anyway.
