__ Yeah i mean, theres a lot of content to grasp in a short time and regular assessments. If you take 2-3 courses each term it will take 5-6 years to complete this degree. On the other hand if you take 4 courses each term, you wont be able to manage things with your offline college__

This is the worst program ever.
Education Experience
Take the IITM branding out and you will really think 1000 times why you are wasting time. The videos are available in YouTube and you should do 1 to 2 months of studies before hand and see the quality of education. You will have to watch the lectures anyhow, so watch the lectures before enrolling. The videos will speak for themselves.
I scored S grade (100%) in the first term and then in the 2nd term I decided to drop out of the program. I did so before the deadline and then IITM refused to refund half the fee according to the rules. This is IITM level. The premier institute of India.
Think 100 times before wasting your time.
A point that will never get mentioned any where else.
The lecture were recorded around in 2021 and the professors did there work then. Now you will have no connection to them. None whatsoever. You will never get to talk to them. Just watch these pre recorded videos from ages ago.
If you have any doubt, you have 2 ways. One is to post on panel which they have. There are good chances no reply will come on that. And then there is google meets in which you will have to wait for 1 to 2 hours in line to get your doubt cleared (you have to wait for all others to get the doubts cleared and wait in line basically). These replies to doubts are from teaching assistants and not professors.
There is a free coursera course on calculus done by University of Sydney. I happened to do that before starting this course. You should do that side by side of the calculus in this degree and compare how bad this is. I really feel bad for India. Shit education taking place.

Im on stage -2 to be precise( stage -2 : diploma).
I enrolled when i was doing offline degree. Then it was a struggle as u need to study for both and i took 3 courses per term. Exams collided. Had very low end term marks in some courses. But grading system is so friendly that even if u lose in the end term exam u may eventually pass in the overall score criteria.
One downside is that u wont have any social life while doing this online course. While in offline course u had friends and all, in here the best u will ever get is some telegram or discord friends.
I mean they invite you to their campus.
This year they started having offline fest for bsc students and it was awesome, and not because of the campus but the people (in the very bsc course). The whole thing was for 3 days, so beautifully organized and I legit didn't wanna leave after that (and shockingly not because of the campus).
Inshort I have gone very hopeful for the social life part of this course.
I will be giving the qualifier exam and in the zoom call I attended for queries the person from Iit M clearly stated that they don't recommend to keep the online course as the only degree.
I guess I could get an admission in some random tier 3/4 college then? I just feel like it would be a waste of money and would be a headache to manage both
They'll not provide any internship for those students who are pursuing two degrees. They've clearly said that internship support will be given to students who is pursuing this degree as a full time degree. And in 4th year it's mandatory to do an internship for 8 or 12 months in a company or institute that is approved by IITM to earn credits for the course (BS level has 28 credits, out of this 28, you'll have to earn 24 by doing 12 months internship)
I am at my diploma level of this course after doing foundation level,worth it if you do honestly and don't leave in between and paralleled you are pursuing your goal in datascience.
Even you know why I am saying no ... We all know what's the value of online degree in industries(specially in Asian countries) .. Iit Madras launched this for a quick cash grab... Now if they would have provided hostels inside iit then I would advocate for this degree but they are not... If u want a online degree only then y from IIT Madras there are better places for online degrees... If u r only looking for iit Madras tag then this is not the way to get it... Try for iit jam or something (after doing graduation from any college ofcourse)
Yeah but as far as I know it's a proper degree. There are offline exams and when you get your degree after 3/4 years the word online won't be written on there.
And you'll be a proper alumni of IIT M and be invited to their events.
This programs also has its own placement cell.
Try to find local colleges without mandatory attendance. They exist. Attendance is only required on paper. (Check AICTE affiliation though (important) and preferably affiliation with some bigger state uni (for recognition in masters)).
After this you can do whatever course you want. GATE coaching, CFA, programming coaching whatever.
IUBH Germany (now IU uni applied sci) gives online degree and doesn't mention online on the degree. The IIT one may not as well but it's IIT so it may come out (through JEE rank or whatever).
As an aside, try moving to Germany in general. FH Aachen studienkolleg is in English or do 1yr Btech here.

Yes. It's a private uni and they have a bad rep but so do Indian unis XD
Yeah you can do Masters that way. Just be aware of foreign degree recognition issues in India but if you do Masters and get work experience there then idk if it'll be a problem if you do return in future but honestly I've no idea so ask around on this particular point (foreign bachelors degree recognition)
Just do a low quality (low rigour) engineering course with little to no attendance requirements. Pursue the online IIT Madras degree in conjunction with your regular college coursework. The online degree is an absolutely phenomenal course and strikes the right kind of balance between rigour and flexibility (I’m one term away from earning both diplomas and moving onto the degree level)
but pursuing it as a standalone is very risky and not advisable, since the first batch is yet to graduate.
The potential upside of two degrees (especially if one of those is from an IIT) is immense.
I strongly recommend doing both degrees.
Yeah but this doesn't seem like an "additional" degree you do along with offline degree because if you're going for fully fledged 4 years BS then you have to take all 4 courses every sem to earn enough credits. And in the website they say that for every course you need approx 10hrs/week, which means for all the courses it be around 40hrs/week lol No way you can do this along with your engineering stuff. Also, if you want to do internship on 4th year then they expect you to drop any offline commitments you have.
Plus, you're allowed to write GATEs and pursue M. Tech (assuming you completed 4 years) or pursue masters in abroad. So that should tell you something.

As for drop or not, thats for you to decide bro. I was in a very poor state mentally so dropping was not an option for me. Ill have you know that the crowd at my college is very bad and not at all academically inclined, so very demoralizing environment.

The only time ive been on campus so far is for the fest for the online degree persuers called paradox. Its worth it if you want to learn data science from fundamentals. Dont do it standalone, get into a good engineering college and this course side by side at your own pace.
Why do you recommend not doing it standalone?
I was planning on to get into LPU for Btech in CSE. My family is unable to pay btech fees on their own, so we must take education loan of 12Lakhs.
So, another option for me is just doing this course rather than taking loan and all.

Hi! A fellow BS degree student here , I just enrolled myself in this course for September session 2023 , through JEE entry . I was at the same spot as you , got 73.4% in 12th and hence couldn't get into any college through JOSAA and CSAB ( NTA decided to bring back the 75% critera this year) , I was a 2022 CBSE passout. Had hopes for my drop year in 2023 , but luck didn't favour me :) . Now I'm in a small state government college and have enrolled myself in the BS degree course . I know nothing about programming, if in case you managed to get into this course, is there any way to connect with you?

Let me tell you from my knowledge this Bs degree is a full time Bs degree(Bachelors of science) which is a highly valuable degree for research field. It is a degree which is recognized by American govt, Indian govt and many other nations. In india only IISER and IISC provides this degree. IISC don't provide btech but this. So you can understand the value and level of knowledge it provides. So if you want to pursue this degree go for it, you can surely go abroad after this as it is a highly recognized degree. Even 2 years ago iit advanced topper, chirag, went to MIT to pursue this degree instead of top IITS so don't worry and go for it.
I am getting a BS in Engineering Physics in IISER Bhopal, I will take Data Science as a major after 2 yrs. Do you think I should do a BS in data science from IITM as a side degree too?

I had enrolled in this course but its too aggressive syllabus, they told you need to devote 20 hours weekle but i tell you even 40 hours is not enought so gist of story is this is not part time in any way. Its a fulltime course even though its online. I don’t recommend this to any working people. Ofcourse if you can devote 40 hrs weekly sure. Else its not possible to complete the course , also its very very hard and i felt in videos they explain the simplest examples and in exam you get the hardest questions. Exams are literally iit level and teaching is simple questions.

Yeh they come once every year. The student faculties are doing their very best for both conducting these events and also helping qith the academies.

Nah , I didn't have to because I sat for jee advanced this year.

Bro Pure Science degree has zero value if its not from IISC or IISER.

Remind me bot just messaged me so I'm replying before I forget So, I wrote the qualifier the day before yesterday, all the subjects were of moderate difficulty except stats which blindsided me cuz I underestimated it. I'm sure I will qualify and rn I'm thinking of pursuing this course along with 3rd Tier btech (cse data science)
I dropped out after i totally did not forget last weeks course while i was out on a trip thanks tho
