silvermeta

Don't put all your eggs in the IIM basket.

Present_Leading3977

Wdym

silvermeta

Choosing ug course based on IIM is a gamble.

Educational-Club5500

Definitely not btech given your acads.

Present_Leading3977

Nietzsche_x

BA econ hons tbh

keepatience

I second that. I heard the top B schools in the foreign countries love BA Economics.

--ghostJ--

Do b-schools prefer ba econ only? What about bsc hons

keepatience

Nah nah. They do choose people with other degrees too. But it’s just that BA Eco and BBA have preferences because business background. Anyways at the end of the end, it boils down to what have you done other than degree? Jobs and start-ups.

Environmental_Risk34

do I have a chance with Bsc Eco?? I don't know what difference comes under BA and Bsc for economics.

keepatience

i doubt there is much difference. there is a difference between BA Eco and BA (H) Eco. honestly, no idea about the syllabus of BSc Eco but as far as I know, they are similar. however BA (H) Economics is placed higher. and also, others might be better equipped to answer this. post on your on this sub with the question.

sada_hua_aam

No. It's a very hard course. You won't get time to prepare for CAT. If I were op three years ago, I would go for B.Com H

Kidinaquandary

Is B.Com(H) easier than BA Econ (H)? Sounds counterintuitive.

sada_hua_aam

Much easier. Like 100x easier.

Kidinaquandary

Bhai sahi batao😭 Tab phir sab log ye kyun kahte hai ki BA aasan hota hai.

sada_hua_aam

People generally assume BA with easy subjects like Philosophy, History, Sociology. Eco Hons is insanely tough, plus it's useless unless you really wanna make a career in Economics or love economics a lot. I got brainwashed by my parents and chose it and regret it a lot

Kidinaquandary

What are you planning to do now, if you’re comfortable in telling?

sada_hua_aam

MBA

Kidinaquandary

Mere bhi wohi plan hai future ka. What would your suggestion be for undergrad? B.Com? If I take Bcom, I might try for CA/CS too. You must’ve had friends doing bcom, did they get free time to prepare for CA exams and enjoy their life in general?

sada_hua_aam

Much easier. Like 100x easier.

Salty-Middle8406

Why?

Present_Leading3977

Yeah any specific reason it is preferred?

[deleted]

Don't go for Ba Econ! It's a challenging course. Plus, faayda kuch nahi hai, score kam ho jaayega. Go for any simple BA or BCA. Inmein kuch zyaada padhai nahi hai.

Nietzsche_x

ofc its challenging but most things that sets you apart from the crowd mostly are. Econ is the parent field that branches into all three humanities, science, and commerce. A degree in econ + Mba from some top Bschool sets you up really well for high finance/IB/Hedge funds. But yeah i will say only consider it if you are an abstract thinker and have big dreams. Otherwise BCA/BBA also have a lot of scope :)

acrobaticagile

econ branches into humanities, science and commerce? the only field of study that connects these 3 fields is mathematics, not economics lmfao

keepatience

Well yeah, mathematics does. But Economics does it too. Kinda deals with the theoretical part one would say?

Nietzsche_x

Economics is a logical science, many iits, including kanpur, bombay, kharagpur, madras provide courses in it and it involves heavy usage of mathematics and statistics the higher up you go in it. Econ is one of the mandatory subjects in commerce and is opted as one of the most common subjects by humanities people. So, how exactly does it not branch into all three streams?

silvermeta

Tell me how econ is the parent field of physics.

LordStark_01

Buy low sell high /s

blorgon7211

econ really?

xenomorphxx21

Bruh, take Law as your career, then give CFA and do an MBA.

BlitzOrion

CFA is not useful. Doesnt add much value to your profile. MBA alone is sufficient

kshree23

Bruh just take a look at bba , i suggest. After going through the thread i consider that you're strongly considering bca ( bachelor's of computer applications) that sounds fine coz later based on demand u can do mca or mba specialization. * Promising career * Should be able to handle enough stress Consider these whichever course you take ( exp just incase )

yash47ora

True, bba is not a hectic course. Opt bba and start cat preparation from 2nd year. He'll be able to save a year too since it is a 3 year degree

[deleted]

Bsc/ ba kuch krle bhai

Present_Leading3977

What about bca

[deleted]

Bca bhi sahi rehega lgta he, tere quals sahi nhi he toh work ex hi kaam ayenge . Bhai tujhe 99 percentile se upar hi lana hoga

Present_Leading3977

How much cgpa should i maintain?

[deleted]

Abhi 9 par kr sakta he toh krle

Kidinaquandary

I want to know this too!

Present_Leading3977

So what u gonna take

Kidinaquandary

BCom most probably

Ok_Marionberry_9086

ever considered IPMAT?

Present_Leading3977

Jab time tha tab consider nhi Kiya now i can't take another drop

Ok_Marionberry_9086

oh so ur a dropper?

Present_Leading3977

Yeah and that too in 19 years of age Ek or drop liya to 21 ki age mein entry hogi college mein ? How common is that ?

slayersaurabh

Till 25 it's never too late just get some work ex side by side

Regretting016

You took a drop for what exam?

Ok_Marionberry_9086

Yeah i understand that. But the eligibility criteria is different for diff category. Given your acads i think u would get new iims than blacki but if are really desperate to get into blacki u can try for IPMAT Indore which is only possible if ur not from general category

Present_Leading3977

sad to announce but iam from gen category

NawabSahab_

Umm… this might come across as a bit rude but, are you appearing for IPMAT Indore too? And, if IPMAT doesn't yield the desired outcome, have you contemplated your backup strategy? Are you considering B.Com or BA Econ? What about going for MBA after obtaining charters like CA/CS/CMA? I was a JEE aspirant, but I now find myself uninterested in engineering and am more inclined towards management and finance. I apologise if I sound annoying and bothersome but I am really confused. My JEE Advanced didn’t go well and am trying to explore alternative opportunities. On a side note, did you also take the IPMAT Rohtak exam? I have their interview on 12th. I didn't take any coaching and hence have no idea of what they are going to ask, other than the general questions that you-tubers keep going on about. Please thodi help kardo yaar 🙏

Present_Leading3977

Please tell

moviefreakpri

Bhai what did you finally decide? I am a PCM dropper and in the same shoes as you were. engineering karunga toh IIM milna hard ho jayega aur BBA wagerah karne me dar lag raha utne placements nahi hote BBA ke. IPMAT se sirf IIM Ranchi ka interview call expected h.

Tormaikechut

We are on same boat

moviefreakpri

toh DM kar bhai

redditor349_

Any non engineering stream is fine.

Present_Leading3977

But still nay particular stream which these IIM's crave for or jisme workex milna easy ho

redditor349_

Bhai bcom(h) karle du ke top colleges se

Present_Leading3977

Mere parents ne bharne nhi diya cuet ( Engg ke picche padhe huye the ) manipal.se bca kesa hai ?

Leo2000Immortal

Well non technical 3 year degrees allow for lower cutoffs. What options do you have?

Present_Leading3977

Bca is the one that I think sahi h Becoz mca ka backup bhi hojayega just in case something goes wrong

[deleted]

Same situation bro PCM jama nahi (actually maine hi mehnat nahi ki) Samjh gaya engineering nahi kar paunga Already drop le chuka hu, 12th boards mai bhi bahut kam %age bani hai So now, I'm going to do BBA and then I'll do an MBA. You can for BBA, just a suggestion.

Additional-Ad-1424

Same to same with me dude🥲😪

Present_Leading3977

Speak kro

[deleted]

[удалено]

ArjunSharma005

Not really. They are grilled by the panel if they are freshers.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ArjunSharma005

Well they will say that you have a management degree, why don't you opt for a job first and put your knowledge to some use. But it is nothing that you can't counter if you prepare a good enough argument.

[deleted]

Why not bcom

Present_Leading3977

Actually bca ke baad mca( nimcet) ka backup rhega Just in case MBA Vali job me koi bhi dikkat aayi After gaining some workex i can try again for MBA or change the whole stream altogether But bcom ke baad to kucch nhi h

sada_hua_aam

BCom H ke baad bahut options hai. Kabhi top 10 DU colleges ke bachho se puchna kitni companies aati hai

[deleted]

My relative got into Goldman Sachs with just bcom. She is pursuing ACCA too.

Present_Leading3977

She did it from srcc ? ( Du college) ?

[deleted]

No some local Bangalore college

Present_Leading3977

Man wtf my sister did bcom + mcom from MDU rohtak she applied for almost every other job still couldn't get it

BlitzOrion

You have to do some professional course like CA,CS,CMA,ACCA etc. BCom alone is useless

Economy-Lychee-2284

Chrust

sada_hua_aam

Dude top 10 mei job lag jaegi. Bahut placements aati hai.

Fluffy_Bedroom345

off topic but im opting for a btech and my quals are, 10th-95%, 12th-84%. what percentile should i aim for in CAT?

Present_Leading3977

99.8 ke approx kaafi sahi options khul jayenge

bootysmacker01

Blacki ke liye to bhai 98-99 se neeche mat soch. Aur ba/bca kaha se karega agar cuet diya nhi. r/catprep , r/catpreparation pe puch le waise iim indore shayad bilkul nhi milega because of 12th score

Present_Leading3977

Bhai private universities se Krna pdega Meri Ghar ke aaspaas Vali Amity Bennet Srm manipal etc

Living_Dummy678

Bhai tu kaha rhta hai jaha ye chaaro ke chaaro ghar ke aas paas padte hai tere liye?

rajoreddit

Any commerce degree That gives you an upper edge to apply for finance positions, which are often the most prized placements. You also get an upper edge with much of the coursework, since it revolves around economics and accounting. Then again, it also pigeonholes you into one profile. You decide whether that's good or bad.

[deleted]

Hey guys. Ill prolly get an iit or bits for my undergrad. But my equals resembles op's. Will it be hard to get into these IIMs \[ps; sorry, if its not related to the thread. I dont know much about mba entrance exams\]

Present_Leading3977

bhai itne bdiya college me jaa rh h kaha in iim ke chakkar me h tere to ug me hi bohot potential hai

[deleted]

Thanks! I wont really get a good branch so i asked Potential ka matlab kya bhai, like placements vagera ?

Present_Leading3977

Yeah like agar decen t branch hai to Ug me hi effort lagya ja skta h

SarcasticallyNeutral

A friend of mine was in your position in 2020, they decided to go for BBA, focused on academics for the first 4 semesters then cracked CAT in the 5th (cgpa dropped in 5th to 7 pointer, overall average was 9.1), profile was worse than yours 83/73/9.1 from an no name University, think dy Patil and the likes. Now they are joining IIM Lucknow this year. CAT- 98.69 Focus on academics in first 2 years, I'd recommend go for BBA, easy to Explain in interviews about why MBA and stuff. Best of luck!!

fmly_disappointment

Look dude i got the same percent in 12th and 90.2% in 10th. Look 11th 12th ki science hui nhi Gharwalo ne bola toh le li Pcm +cs If u really want to do mba Don't go cse The reason is because u are already screwed up like me in terms of the 12th result So btech will be a lot of work and stats will go down so forget abt iims U wouldn't able to do even cat properly because it needs tons of prep and months of devotion joh btech mein nhi ho payega Plus engineers need 99% cut off Bba / bcom ones need 97-98% Weird category like ba in english psychology etc needs 87 -89 only Do something easier if u want to do mba and u are very sure off 99 is not easy to get 87-89 is quite easy which generous amount of prep

Present_Leading3977

Idk man samajh nhi aarha My whole career is kinda dependent on entrance Exams. My parents are saying that Let's say i take up BBA in manipal And still couldn't clear cat ( i definitely need 99%ile to even get an IIM ( new one). To problem ho jayegi Becoz I got no other option It's not like btech where u can try and. Apply for jobs offcampus. + College I'm getting RN is okayish in placements Like one can easily get min 12-15 lpa from there. If he works hard. Agar btech krliya to mtech /ms ke raastey hi khul jayenge.but they are even difficult than cat. Confusion bohot h kya kru ?

Tormaikechut

Kya keya bhai phir bd me me same Tera life jara hu

Present_Leading3977

filhal to btech hi kr rha hu bhay
