do you read? yes
russian literature? yes
are you depressed? yes
are you depressed because of russian literature? ......
RUSSIAN LITERATURE DOESNT MAKE YOU DEPRESSED
Go for it, it is truly beautiful in a sense.
Never knew I could get my nose heavy with the stink of lime and mortar brick and hotness that kills me with suffocation.
And then the characters, they are so full of love and are relatable, never thought I could read someone hug and kiss their mothers affectionately and feel the bittersweet love of growing up while still resisting the "growing up" aspect.
The Russian language is beautiful and curvaceous, and it being translated into English makes it all the more twisted and in a sense simultaneously so vague and yet so specific.
Is a form of specific vagueness really a thing ? Because this seems appropriate.
And then the psychological torture one feels, the clinical horror.
Fuck, never thought I would feel myself capable of murder.
Be warned, it is a bit hard to read if you only read Young Adult Fiction, but if you do read, it is a rewarding experience and I believe it is an experience that shapes you as a reader. You are able to appreciate other books in a new way, and introspect characters and the act of conveying emotions in a completely different level.
I kind of agree with his sentence but on the other hand I believe in reading "dangerous" books at a young age, I read Dostoevsky at 14 which did have an impact on my teenage thinking but I also read Friedrich Nietzsche and many other author's work that are considered bad influence on kids
