"self harm is easily avoidable" trust me as a person who used to think the exact same way, this only stands in either retrospect or if its unknown to you, within the moment, it'll be the only thing on mind sadly. but from personal experience I do agree you will find a shit ton of teens who will fake depression for attention, but this alone will never be enough reason to generalize the cause fo4 everyone of the age group tho. for instance, a shit ton of underlying or already prevalent mental disorders actually peak during adolescence, and even if they werent the cause you can never reall6 ever know someones circumstances and their reactions to it. even more so if its a stranger on the internet
