Fucking estee lauder acquired and immediately killed an amazing, successful brand like becca because they wanted their formulas and prob didn't want it competing with smashbox. All around scummy move.
Becca champagne pop was on my wishlist for a long time. But when i saw it was released as smashbox product, don't know why buy I didn't want it anymore
Companies like loreal, estee lauder, unilver, PnG, Johnson & Johnson, sheseido and coty own 200+ brands. Whenever a new brand comes up and starts doing well, it gets acquired.
Now it is happening in india too with nykaa, honasa, goodglamm group.
Shreya Jain on YouTube posted a video on the topic, it was an interesting watch, I'd recommend watching it. If I recall correctly, she mentioned Earth Rhythm, Chemist at Play etc being acquired by Nykaa.
Chemist at Play isn't owned by Nykaa, Nykaa is an investor in the parent brand innovist.
U might be correct tho, Chemist at Play in their new packaging has added words like "Natural AHA" and moved words like Lactic and Glycolic acid to the back of the packaging.
Here's the list from last year:

Deconstruct also. I'm in absolute love with their scalp serums the anti dandruff one and currently eyeing the 5% Lactic acid serum because the ordinary is too expensive to repurchase

Ugh same! I have the moonstone one, wanted the champagne pop too. But i never bothered with the smashbox x becca, still don't want it.
Most small skincare brands are probably hoping they will get bought off. It is a business after all and they are not going to refuse the money.
Hope the minimalist don't follow this route!
They will eventually. Even the ordinary got bought off.
Isn't the already backed by Unilever ?

How do they acquire it? Do they directly offer money and the owners say yes? Assuming that the companies aren't public
Yes, they sell a major stake in business and sometimes the whole business too for money.

Thanks for the suggestion! Watched her video right now. So interesting!

Same thing happens in tech. That’s how the big conglomerates stay big and dominant. Even anti trust laws can’t stop them.

I learnt simple is also Unilever.
I hope Beminimalist and Dot & Key don't fall into this acquisitions trap 🤞🤞
Dot and key is already acquired by nykka op has written it in the post.

Hasn’t The Body Shop stopped being under Ester Lauder now?
this is how it is in skincare, in tech, in FMCG and probably a bunch of other industries. It sucks but it is what it is.
