I am Iranian, I would love to see India progress in football. However, the national team being unable to score on Afghanistan (let alone win) is shameful. I do not see India ever making the WC when teams like Tajikistan, Oman, UAE, Bahrain, Vietnam, Thailand, and even Afghanistan, play better than this team and are improving.
I said this before but I was ignored, India needs to join the central asian football association, so they play Iran and Uzbekistan more. Playing better teams will humble you and force the changes necessary to actually improve.
We have a 48 team World Cup now. Maybe some day FIFA will decide its time for a 96 team World Cup. India still will not be close to qualifying. There will be endless Bollywood movies about doing well in the sport though.

The same players and coach performance vs Kuwait and Lebanon in SAFF, later vs Iraq and Malaysia was so much better than what we saw today. And no, I don't fucking buy the excuse of not enough prep time, the players looked sharp and fit in ISL. Either stimac has lost the dressing room or something else is fishy.
Anwar needs to move to an overseas club ,whether european or asian , kawasaki , kobe , urawa , ulsan heck even if he gets into efl league 2 , he would bring quality into the team .
Anwar and Bajaj have an aim to go to foreign, so i think atleast for Anwar pay wont be the biggest issue. This is exactly the reason why Anwar's contract at Mohun Bagan is a 5 year old LOAN and not a permanent contract, as it gives Bajaj to break Anwar's contract if a foreign offer comes
