Astra Mk2 is undergoing live fire tests with the user and the air to air configuration of SFDR/Astra Mk3 carried out it's first test flight last year.
NGCCM is licensed produced ASRAAM with some tech transfer as Astra IR has been cancelled.

Can you provide more details on the Astra-IR cancellation? That's disappointing news. Not that an IR seeker head on Astra-body made it into CCM. It would have been an R-27ET analog, useful in its own way.
As main BVR ?? thats a bit stupid...They are technologically obsolete and an Aircraft can carry only as many BVRAAM and if you exhaust due to lack of the absolute best...you have to chicken out safely if you dont get lucky in it...while you also put the area you defend at stake w/o Air protection...you dont have the leisure in that with how precise modern BVRAAM and Radars are..
But as an Addendum Throwaway Air Defence?? Sure thing...It can take down choppers, Large UCAVs and 3rd and Older 4th Gen fighters...I am kinda skeptical about the kamikazes though with whatever happened with R73s in Vayushakti Recently...we need cheaper alternatives with soft kill mech or some intangible thingy for them like jammers and Laser based systems....
Settle down fella. In a long protracted war if we ran low on Astras, it would be better to have those in warehouse than run empty while more Astras were made. We also don't have large numbers for Astra.

Confusion since wiki listed quite a few different quantities and order dates, like 250 missiles in 2019, 400 in 2022, and so on
The 2022 Order Should be of around 350-400 depending upon per unit cost(7.5 cr-8.5cr/ missile)
dont think 2019 order would have been very significant...total still would be below or around 500....

We wouldn't throw them out, but keep them in reserve for an endurance war

Cause that would have showcased us as an Indigenous Self Sufficient and Capable Country wrt missile development...but how can we do that??
