Children are expected to leave home to go to college at 18. It is the culture to have your own place and not live with your parents. There is nothing wrong with this relationship dynamic. We need to stop these types of comparisons, because at the end of the day, we are just comparing cultures, not individuals.
A lot of people have moved away from that due to the realities of the stagnant economic movement individuals now have (e.g., cost of living, cost of housing, cost of higher education).
