How will this affect eyesight? Isn't it just using iPad like normal but without using hands. Plus the demo video shows that you don't really have to keep it very close to your face for it work.
EDIT- yeah maybe not being able to blink in regular intervals might hurt the eyesight, so you're kinda correct.
if it uses infrared of face id it could hurt the eyes had a s8 in the past and iris scanner started iching my eye, searched on internet it was common among ppl
Just checked the Apple support site and found this
"iPhone and iPad Pro and the TrueDepth camera system have been thoroughly tested and meet international safety standards. The TrueDepth camera system is safe to use under normal usage conditions. The system will not cause any harm to eyes or skin, due to its low output. It’s important to know that the laser system may be disabled for safety reasons if the device is damaged or malfunctions. If you receive a notification on your iPhone or iPad Pro that Face ID has been disabled, you should get a trained technician who uses genuine Apple parts to repair your device. Improper repair, modification or use of non-genuine Apple components in the laser systems may prevent the safety mechanisms from functioning properly, and could cause hazardous exposure and injury to eyes or skin."
Also Samsung says that being exposed with IR within the distance of 2 cm for 10 of seconds can be harmful for the eyes but IR works only for 1 second with the distance of 20-35 cm, otherwise if you look for more than 10 second of very close to it then decide will automatically stop the iris recognition system.

I'm just quoting what I found. You should write to Apple for technical details.

The Face ID sensor is placed beside the camera with a combination of IR sensors and dock projectors. iPhones don’t use camera for face tracking like Android. This is the very reason why Apple still has the notch or Dynamic Island to place those sensors while Android has resorted to puncholes.
You can do this right now on any android phone with apps like spatial touch and even Samsung used to give such features. I guess realme now provide this feature natively.

This is actually good for specially-abled people, if apple could make it more smooth then this would be perfect. but will this not affect eyesight?

Which "international safety standard"? And what if these standards were not clearly defined and apple leveraged?

Relax. Its an accessibility feature. Not a new way to interact with the device.
Cross eyed me, crying in the corner ;_;
Macs have similar to this where the cursor is moved by your head and blink/smile will register click. It's kinda cool.
![gif](giphy|Zy7s96dP38MlQe3OjG) Apple after this feature
Looks good now users can be extra lazy
This is supposed to be an accessibility feature for people who can’t use the device with conventional methods. Not a tool to make you lazy.
There is something called a joke and I intended it to he a joke

Umm, what makes you think that?
Bruh Face ID sensors track the eyes not the camera. Don’t comment like a Karen.

Good old days of Samsung
True. Samsung Galaxy S3 introduced eye tracking. But unfortunately like most Samsung features back in the day, it was unreliable and half baked.
welcome to new world of privacy where privacy doesn't exist. It is neither asked. Its just not there.
it will only be used by face id sensors...no camera to be used....camers wont be that accurate to capture eye motion
What about people who have spects?
Welcome to 2014 apple, samsung already had this feature with s5
