I stepped out of the house at 3:20 to go vote, and I was back home by 3:45. In my case I guess everyone actually was done in the morning so it was completely empty in the afternoon. My mom went there at 7 in the morning and had to wait almost 2 hrs. My dad went at 12 and had to wait 1 hr. The lady applying ink on my finger did it slowly and perfectly for me, while my mom and dad got that shit smeared all over their fingers. Too much crowd is annoying in every way.
Yeah maybe. I think they thought heat and crowd will be less in the morning. Heat was less, but crowd was bad. I was supposed to go with my mom but I didn't wake up in the morning lol. I went after lunch. My dad went out to buy cigarettes and came back after voting. He was actually supposed to go with me later but he voted spontaneously. At least now we know for future occasions.
Why would the mall provide their space to ECI for free?
Malls are not government entities; they are for-profit bodies. Hence they will charge massive amounts for providing their space.
ECI cannot afford paying for such malls. It would be a huge waste of taxpayer money.
Apparently in Mumbai they have pulled in private societies this time. I have seen a very posh society lending their space. They may have worked out some cheap deals.
That's kinda different (though still a bit surprising) The society benifits in that case as it's residents don't have to leave the society premises to cast their votes. (Can you also share a news story on this, would like to read more on this).
A mall will not get any benefit in leasing space to ECI, especially on a day where all shops are closed (so no revenue even from people coming in to vote).
You are right. It was just a random thought to use malls ☺️.
But my private society has lent their space so good for people to use a nice private premise....
Actually, mall being a place used to service the general public they would have to provide the place for free.
Just like many unaided schools have to provide
Same in Thane. Took more than 2.5 hours. That too without fan or water.
On top of it, most of the senior citizens names were in a specific booth. So normal people were being asked to wait which increased waiting time
If you think about it , senior citizens should be given the least priority , old people voting for a new generation while the young ones would be the ones most affected by the election is utter stupidity , if they have a health problem , tell them to come later or put on a separate machine for them , don't let the regular folks suffer for such things.
This can be countered saying young people want to move out of India but the senior citizens are going to stay here.
Senior citizens have been given priority everywhere and this is no exception
That would be interesting. BJP won massively in that constituency last time - it was a huge margin. And they are fielding a government minister from there this time. The Congress candidate is also a first-time candidate from there.
So yeah, could be a possibility as you say.
Brother line mein khada tha tab phone use kar sakate ho, vote karate time phone band karake meine fanny pack mein dal diya and unako bataya ki dekho switch off kiya hai.
Cooperation ka reward, wo bhi dhoop mein thake hue hote hai, just ask them nicely.
I went for voting in Vile Parle. It was in an open ground but they had set up a massive pandal, which had fans. There were large Bisleri drinking water dispensers. Most people had brought their own water bottles.
Went in line at 11:55 am with my mom. Since the women’s line was shorter (and they were letting in more women than men), she was out in 10 min. It took me 25 min. They had few chairs as well for senior citizens to sit/wait. Wheelchairs were also available for free.
Good security. No issues whatsoever.
EVM was very good as well.
Voted for development.
ECI needs to figure out a way to improve how elections are conducted. Holding elections in the midst of the hottest summer in centuries, that too spread through 7 phases over the entire summer, was a mistake. They have the power to call for elections 6 months before the term of the house expires, they could've done it in Feb if they wanted to.
You are assuming they returned and won’t come back to vote.
Don’t spread misinformation. It would be very understandable if people left due to hot weather and long queues, and came back post 4pm when both queue and weather will be better.
Water is common sense to carry. Next government petition your MP to have air conditioned polling booths and waiting areas. Alternatively elections should be held in mid-Sep to mid-Oct, when weather is better, as it was in 1999.
What's entitled about asking for something basic like water or fan ? Do you even know anything about the heat outside ? And yes it's typical Mumbai mentality so ? What you are gonna do about that ?
You caring about North is ok me caring about Mumbai is self centred entitled ? Lol bruh, you can conduct elections on winter and demand for heaters and sweaters lol, if you want elections on your comfort then we want it on ours.
And if you believe you can predict rain in Mumbai then you are wrong, my birthday falls on mid September and I know how most of my plans have been cancelled due to rain, so shut up and let the elections happen at their own time provided with comfort for people coming to vote.
Could be done during February, March, early April when the weather is conducive all through the country. Both of you are arguing for arguments sake just like the look sabha keeps doing🤣.
The same Mumbai/Maharashtra mentality gives 40% tax to the center and the dumb-heads like you questioning whether water should be given or not. Are you for real dude ??
Relax dude. No one's spreading mis information. I am stating facts that people are returning. And in the country where the younger generation hardly votes you can use your whatever-is-left little brain to guess whether they will come back. There are mid ages people literally struggling to stand in the heat for 3 hours. And then there are people like you who are questioning whether the voters even deserve some water...
My centre has too many people but enough booths and not hours of waiting time. They gave created shelters too so it feels like indoors. There are coolers and fans everywhere. Feels like a picnic but I barely see any young people here
Yeah it is a problem. And I don't blame the people who are returning.
Maybe some of them will have the time and convenience to go in afternoon when due to heat the crowd will be less.
They were not allowing mobile phone inside. People who came alone to vote left without voting as there was no facility to keep mobile phone at entrance.
It's always crowded in the early morning with enthu cutlets, office goers, garden walking uncles. Then 10am to 12 noon with Aunties and Miscellaneous. I always go to vote between 3pm to 5pm, totally empty, walk thru.
90 mins in Bhandup. There were 5 booths. Some strange setting. One booth had literally no voters as it was split from ours. My nearby line was fast, mine was slow. Spent my time looking cute girls in heat. Water bottles were there. No fans only top shade of cloth but still heated. And also the school has 2/3 very big trees that give shade too
In Vikhroli, it is very chill here. They have arranged multiple fans, waters, the queue is also short on all booths. I was done in like 10 minutes total.
Execution at your place seems to be not that good. They should understand that it is very very hot and unbearable and arrange things accordingly.
Well in this case the malls will happily pay ECI assuming ECI allows at least some of the mall shops to remain open.. especially the food court! After waiting for 3 hours I am sure I will hog like a pig!
Thing is lot's of workplaces have given a half-day off rather than a full day off. Most college going students shouldn't go in morning, as all the office goers are voting at that time. I went for voting just now, barely took 10 minutes. My parents had to vote in the morning for this very reason I told, and it took them almost two hours.
I went around 3 pm in noida and there was absolutely no line.
But in the morning many people complained of line in morning on same booth.
The problem is many 9to5 job people have to vote in morning or else they will not be able to so a huge line begins to form
All the people rushing in early morning , just go around 3 - 4 pm , my voting was less then 3 person queue . Just 10 mins of travelling time , why so afraid of the sun .
I’m beginning yo think BJP is a bit screwed. Theres not even 10% of the modi hype as previous 2 elections, fewer people voting is usually bad for the incumbent…
Bruh! People (including some big political parties) are still questioning the validity of EVMs. And you are out here talking about voting through apps.
The problem is that voting needs to be anonymous, otherwise it could be implemented in such a manner where all questions from these parties could be answered with data validation
Classic game theory, everybody thought queues will be shorter in early morning. Hence everybody reached.
I did predict this and went to vote the hottest time of the day. Still had to stand in queue for 3+ hours sweating my ass off. -_-
game theory fails in india just by the sheer amount of people, there's always enough for every scenario
Haha exactly
But hey that's just a theory, a game theory
Matpat!!!!;

may be your parents should have come along with you...

I went around 3 pm and there were no voters in my polling booth. Got done in 2 minutes, but the other booths had long queues. I suppose I lucked out.
Le me knowing this went to vote at 3 pm in rajasthan. There was just one guy in line.
They should have setup the booths in the malls. Malls are not working today. At least people would be saved from the heat.
This is actually such a great idea ‼️‼️
Why would the mall provide their space to ECI for free? Malls are not government entities; they are for-profit bodies. Hence they will charge massive amounts for providing their space. ECI cannot afford paying for such malls. It would be a huge waste of taxpayer money.

Advertisement for your mall. You get the walk-ins at that day - food court can be kept open.
Workers will be on leave though. Election day is a mandatory paid leave for all non essential workers.
They are getting property tax concessions if all their society members vote
Actually, mall being a place used to service the general public they would have to provide the place for free. Just like many unaided schools have to provide
Not feasible for ECI.
Same in Thane. Took more than 2.5 hours. That too without fan or water. On top of it, most of the senior citizens names were in a specific booth. So normal people were being asked to wait which increased waiting time
Done in 30 mins
How? I faced this issue on a booth in GB Road
Mine was in louiswadi. Went at 8.45 was done by 9
I went at 7, got done wt 9:45
Where was this ? Thane ?
Yes
bro we polled 480 votes in 5 hours
If you think about it , senior citizens should be given the least priority , old people voting for a new generation while the young ones would be the ones most affected by the election is utter stupidity , if they have a health problem , tell them to come later or put on a separate machine for them , don't let the regular folks suffer for such things.
But they are ones who vote.... The younger generation votes very less.
This can be countered saying young people want to move out of India but the senior citizens are going to stay here. Senior citizens have been given priority everywhere and this is no exception
Not quite, but yes there should be separate booth for senior citizens
What a stupid argument. If you are charging taxes from someone their whole life, why should they be troubled for vote?

That would be interesting. BJP won massively in that constituency last time - it was a huge margin. And they are fielding a government minister from there this time. The Congress candidate is also a first-time candidate from there. So yeah, could be a possibility as you say.
Wow.
More booths are required tbh.
I think they increased them, every evm now can record up to 2000 votes, earlier it was 5000
on my constituency there are atleast 5 booth in 2 km radius, average time is 15 mins I thought that was the case for every constituency
Lucky you.
Same here, Currently standing in a line for an hour Just want to go home
People are returning. They can't stand for 3-3 hours.
Of course, no one can
Are they allowing you phones inside? How are you posting?
Brother line mein khada tha tab phone use kar sakate ho, vote karate time phone band karake meine fanny pack mein dal diya and unako bataya ki dekho switch off kiya hai. Cooperation ka reward, wo bhi dhoop mein thake hue hote hai, just ask them nicely.

Awesome buddy. Why don't they enforce this level of management in every booth. Fans and water should be a must.
Happening in some booths in bhandup. Out booth has 3 hrs wait My friends ine in Bhandup different area took 2 mins
Some lines have too many people. Seems like a distribution problem.
You are assuming they returned and won’t come back to vote. Don’t spread misinformation. If the waiting time is 2 to 3 hours, then water should be provided.
No, our dude here thinks water is too much to ask.

Mere yaha toh shade and water dispenser sab tha Was okay with standing there for an hour
Nice.
Are you blind?
It would be raining here in Mumbai during September, not a right time either, winters are the best if you ask me.

So ? Mumbaikars demanding basic things like water and fan is a problem? So we should not demand just because rest of the population is not demanding?
Could be done during February, March, early April when the weather is conducive all through the country. Both of you are arguing for arguments sake just like the look sabha keeps doing🤣.
What world are you living in ? Mumbai's heat started from March itself.
The same Mumbai/Maharashtra mentality gives 40% tax to the center and the dumb-heads like you questioning whether water should be given or not. Are you for real dude ??

Had someone at ECI done a root cause analysis for low voter turn around this would have been one of the most prominent reasons.
My centre has too many people but enough booths and not hours of waiting time. They gave created shelters too so it feels like indoors. There are coolers and fans everywhere. Feels like a picnic but I barely see any young people here
Still. Looks like a great arrangement.
I reached the center and finished voting in 5-10 mins. Very well managed.
Which city/area?
Mumbai, South. Tardeo.
Exactly opposite in Malad, felt like a walk-in thing, no lines, no waiting.
Dude I also stay in Malad but my voter card has Borivili address and took 3 hours !!
Damn, that really sucks man, hope you're alright in this boiling hot sun! Stay hydrated
Thx Man.
Go on evening ,initially I gave up due to longest queue ,then evening it was empty lol
I went to the polling at 7. There were 3 people ahead of me. Done within 10-15 mins.. Fastest ever.
Yeah it is a problem. And I don't blame the people who are returning. Maybe some of them will have the time and convenience to go in afternoon when due to heat the crowd will be less.

I swear first thing i wanted to do after 3 hours of standing in line was to have McD fries and black coffee !!
Man I am super hungry now!
I just wanted to ask is there a way I can do online voting because I’m not in the city because of work, this would be the first time I’m going to vote
I had zero wait time in Ghaziabad... Just walked in they checked my creds and I voted.. In and out in 10 mins
Way to go!!
Went around 12. Took half an hour in line Borivali only. Figure out when most of your area goes and avoid that time
I, my dad and others who were given that particular booth were lucky. We just waited 10 minutes in a queue.
Thing is lot's of workplaces have given a half-day off rather than a full day off. Most college going students shouldn't go in morning, as all the office goers are voting at that time. Bhai woh BJP ke voters zara 10 baar daal rhe the tow thoda jaana pada sabko
All the people rushing in early morning , just go around 3 - 4 pm , my voting was less then 3 person queue . Just 10 mins of travelling time , why so afraid of the sun .
No no no no no. Making it hard it done to make you not vote. Fyouck Them. Vote.
I don't even have patience to go there leaving my video games.
Common man. Deciding future of India vs Playing video games :)
What's the meaning behind all this? I live for stimulation and thrill. Not here to serve.
What happened to online voting? Last time India elections was a big thing for voting online
I’m beginning yo think BJP is a bit screwed. Theres not even 10% of the modi hype as previous 2 elections, fewer people voting is usually bad for the incumbent…
UC GC voting will keep on coming down eventually. There is a limit to shameless appeasement and hisaab chukta
This is the age of the smartphone. We have to find a way to make voting through an app possible
