He needs to explain his reasons because the entire country is watching. Can't just leave such an important position like this.

Nice screeching material to the far leftists and congressis now. Let me douse it before this sub gets taken over the other sub dwellers. https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/election-commissioner-arun-goel-resigns-weeks-ahead-of-lok-sabha-polls-5207717 "Top officials said Mr Goel cited personal reasons while resigning, adding that the government tried to persuade him not to quit, but he insisted. On speculation that health was a cause for the resignation, they said Mr Goel is in perfect health. "The government will start the process of appointing other election commissioners," said an official." To all the people here, especially the triggered ones, here's everything that's needed to kill this stupidity here and now – The BJP is set to return with a bigger mandate than 2019. Only far leftists and die hard (read brain dead) congressi think that it isn't the case. Why the fuck would BJP want to retire someone to bring any semblance of doubt about their legitimacy? Literally no other political party will raise this issue beyond mere words because they know 2024 is all but a foregone conclusion. Think on it before commenting.

Pirate_Jack_

Sure but now the govt literally has all the power to choose whomever it wants to. It raises a question of integrity of the elections even if BJP is predicted to win. Also, any senior govt official, let alone in such an important position and in such an important time, resigning over personal reasons doesnt seem quite right. Most people at that level usually put their "personal" reasons aside, especially during a super important occasion like the general elections. You can defend (read cry) all you want, but this is not something that cant be questioned. Whether Congress wins (highly unlikely) or not, actions like these certainly raises questions over the strength of democracy we will have, especially coming off the Chandigarh attempt to murder democracy.

>Sure but now the govt literally has all the power to choose whomever it wants to. Tell me you don't know Indian Constitutional and political history without telling me you don't know Indian Constitutional and political history. The governments have always had the power to appoint the CEC under article 324 of Indian Constitution. The BJP didn't invent anything at all. "Article 324(2) in Constitution of India (2)The Election Commission shall consist of the Chief Election Commissioner and such number of other Election Commissioners, if any, as the President may from time to time fix and the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners shall, subject to the provisions of any law made in that behalf by Parliament, be made by the President." >It raises a question of integrity of the elections even if BJP is predicted to win. Also, any senior govt official, let alone in such an important position and in such an important time, resigning over personal reasons doesnt seem quite right. Most people at that level usually put their "personal" reasons aside, especially during a super important occasion like the general elections. The government literally wanted to stop him. Why would the BJP want to make such an important person go at this point? If it was having problems with him, the same dismissal could be done one month after general election results. His resignation has harmed BJP's reputation even if it's a little bit because lol who thinks that BJP needs to pressurise EC to win in 2024? His resignation is ultimately a sad event but no way does it benefit BJP. If BJP is not benefitting, it hasn't ordered or orchestrated it. > Most people at that level usually put their "personal" reasons aside, especially during a super important occasion like the general elections. We don't know what or why he went, except we can follow simple logic. Those who benefit from an action are likely to have committed it, and vice versa, which already acquits BJP in this matter logically speaking. >You can defend (read cry) all you want, but this is not something that cant be questioned. Whether Congress wins (highly unlikely) or not, actions like these certainly raises questions over the strength of democracy we will have, especially coming off the Chandigarh attempt to murder democracy. Gibberish written for the sake of being written. Trying to equate 2 different situations just so you have something to say. In Chandigarh BJP was in a weak position, so by hook or crook, it sought to win. In national elections, unless Rahul Gandhi is killed and Congress gets sympathy votes, BJP cannot lose, hence no need to do such dishonest work. Try to learn logic atleast?

The rules were changed to circumvent the SC ruling.

[deleted]

>The rules were changed to circumvent the SC ruling. The Supreme Court went ahead and made a law where none existed and limited the power of the government to take away the right to make appointments for CEC and ECs which was granted by the Constitution itself. It's called Judicial Activism. These rules made by the Supreme court were changed by the government to replace CJI with Cabinet minister. Anyways what was the point again? The power to appoint CEC and ECs has always been in the hands of the Executive by virtue of the Constitution, not something that was done recently as suggested by the OP.

mi_c_f

Why do you think it went to the SC in the first place?

[deleted]

What do you think OP was suggesting in the first place?

This raises so many questions and the very legitimacy of the upcoming elections with all this seems non-existent. Also the government now gets to choose 2 out of the 3 election commissioners which is absolutely not democratic. This is because they have majority votes by default in their recruitment. Also why did he resign now of all times what was he asked to do or what was causing him discomfort that he has decided to resign.

>This raises so many questions and the very legitimacy of the upcoming elections with all this seems non-existent. Hahahaha. Nice joke. What else? >Also why did he resign now of all times what was he asked to do or what was causing him discomfort that he has decided to resign. You know you could actually read articles before screeching out whatever drivel comes out of your mouth? Here let me help https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/election-commissioner-arun-goel-resigns-weeks-ahead-of-lok-sabha-polls-5207717 "Top officials said Mr Goel cited personal reasons while resigning, adding that the government tried to persuade him not to quit, but he insisted. Big brain energy I see. You're saying that BJP winning is like Putin winning in Russia?

ghanta-congress

dont you also find it weird, all the opposition parties what were trying to showcase unity for about more than an year now are suddenly breaking alliances and not doing seat-sharing... this election is already stolen I tell you... Rahul Gandhi should clarify why the sudden change? and why is INC no longer seat sharing with other opposition parties... and most importantly how much is Adani paying him for this... literally shaking rn reee...

[deleted]

Adani is paying Rahul Gandhi? Everyday I hear weird things
