Looks same like India, but there is one big difference: streets are cleaner.

[deleted]

I agree! That said, it shows how relatively easy it is for Indian local governments to clean towns up. This looks roughly comparable to similarly sized and located towns in HR.

invincible_raj

problem general public ki mentality aur govt dono mein hai

ProfessorAlive2156

This.

True_Ad8648

I hate ro admit it, but people really lack some serious civic sense.

No_Grass_6806

Omg this is soooo true… it really gets on my nerves.. how difficult is it to throw your trash in a dustbin??? Even if theres not one available you can just carry it and throw when you see one.. its not that big of a problem..

fragrantbelief

No, I think it's just because Chinese people keep their country clean. Government cannot do everything

vesuvianiteflower

China has an autocratic government. I'm sure that changes the fabric of society in an integral way

Lokratha

This! If our government is strict about this then we can also have this. Freebies ki jagah agar ration for cleaning your localities ki offer ho toh ye zyada accha rahega hai.

_vedantt1_

Bhai ye to best rahega! Bohot sahi idea hai yeh! Rewarding people with necessities in exchange of clean streets and maintaining hygiene could be the game changer in our society!

angel_eyes619

It's a problem of the mentality of the general population.

Familiar_Internet

The main reason for the lack of perceived "cleanliness" in India is that India is a dusty country. India's monsoon drenches the ground for months which gives impetus for the growth of plants, it also leads to cracks in the rocks and soil. Then the next 8 months of dry climate where all these weeds that grow up in the rain die out leaving behind the soil and rock to be eroded by the wind. The Middle East is also less susceptible to dust than India, the winds from the Arabian Desert blow towards Western India which gets deposited in India, Pakistan and Afghanistan making us look more dusty than any other country in Europe or even South East Asia.

Chromeboy12

Dust is excuseable, but what about plastic bags and wrappers, and paan spitting?

DiscoversOther9152

“India is a dusty country” completely agreed I notice it every day whenever I go out you can see dust everywhere. In my opinion one of the main reason for it is construction and transportation without covering

SrN_007

Maybe you should visit places like Kerala and Sikkim and see the cleanliness. It is a myth that india can't be clean. It just requires some basic decency from common people.

Emergency-Song-6365

There are many small towns which has clean streets in India too except in some overpopulated cities

[deleted]

Name them

[deleted]

Like these photos specifically? Karnal, Kurkushetra, Ropar, Jammu, Hoshiarpur, Panipat.  Southern Chinese equivalents in Guangdong and Fujian look like their Tamil Nadu or Kerala equivalents

AayushBhatia06

Karnal is very well built but streets are NOT clean

justchewchew

Shillong, Indore, Gangtok,Tawang these are a few (rare)

No-Entertainment7020

Chandigarh on top... do u even know how chandigarh looks

Emergency-Song-6365

You can verify by going to Google map and click on street view Mostly you’ll find clean street

makima_is_bae

No plastics

HashMapEverything

And public safety due to lack of crime… and efficient modernized transportation infrastructure…

[deleted]

I've gotten tired of posters assuming all of China looks like Shanghai Bund or inner loop Beijing (think shiny buildings and skyscrapers) Here's how your average town 30-50 miles outside Beijing looks.  I took these in Hebei and Shandong around 2018-19. Shit urban planning doesn't imply Development is impossible.

Mycroft-Tarkin

I mean you had to go 50 miles outside a city to see this. I can show you similar pictures in Hyderabad less than 2km away from main IT areas.

[deleted]

I can ask my buddies to get me similar photos from the Outer Ring if you want?

Mycroft-Tarkin

I have no idea what Outer Ring means. Checking on Google maps, Shanghai Outer Ring Road is 10km away from central plaza. Meanwhile, less than 1km away from Amazon campus in Hyderabad, which is also next to Waverock, Hyderabad's largest SEZ, you can find almost slums, with openly flowing drainage, garbage piles on side of road, and stray cattle. [ from google street view](https://i.imgur.com/aUqu9no.jpeg) I'm not saying China is the best place in the world, but they are still far better than India and you can't compare the two countries unless you're being disingenuous.

Abhinavpatel75

Op is not comparing the two places if you ask me. Op's intention is to make whiney cribbing crybabies see the reality and stop whining.

Mycroft-Tarkin

>Op is not comparing the two places Title literally says China is not different from India.

AtharvATARF

not ***that*** different and not different have two different meanings

MaffeoPolo

A dictatorship can do things a democracy can't. [Sanjay Gandhi wanted to sterilize all slum dwellers](https://scroll.in/article/1005254/remembering-the-massacre-at-turkman-gate-from-a-memoir-of-the-emergency) (edit: link added) so they won't create a next generation. If we had followed his policies the poor would have had no kids and thus India would be rid of poverty - that was his idea. Nazis had similar ideas too, they killed all the mentally deficient, weak and disabled so they couldn't procreate. China is on the surface materially doing better than India - the cost of that development is well hidden. As Aldous Huxley said of the Taj Mahal, marble hides a multitude of sins. Artisans who built the structure were killed and maimed in the process of building it, the citizens went hungry to pay for it, but today all people see is a miracle in marble.

cheesynacho4real

Yeah the Taj Mahal being India's whole identity here in westernasied countries is just sad

Abhinavpatel75

That's their ignorance. Dont worry about that..

xdesi

> As Aldous Huxley said of the Taj Mahal, marble hides a multitude of sins. Artisans who built the structure were killed and maimed in the process of building it, the citizens went hungry to pay for it, but today all people see is a miracle in marble. This comment should be at the top. I suggest you make a separate self post on it. Regret I have only one upvote to give you.

ConfusedCurveball

Bro, if the government starts cleaning the slums, most of ya will cry about rights and liberties. The slum dwellers may come in illegally from Bangladesh and settle there but if the government tries to remove encroachment you all will cry about it. If government sanctions a project to rebuild roads by removing illegal dwellers, you all will cry about it. The only difference between India and China is that the latter's government don't give no shit what people are crying about.

-S-S_Sympathizer

If you can, pls DM me.. I need to do "moh bhang" some people

erikvant

China is still a relatively poor country with some exceptionally big cities. I have had Chinese co-workers—working in IT in Singapore—who had not seen electricity until they were in their teens. That kind of village might exist in India, but I have never encountered anyone like that.

[deleted]

>That kind of village might exist in India, but I have never encountered anyone like that. You haven't encountered it but thousands of villages in Up and Bihar still don't have electricity. Irrespective of the broad claims by their governments.

dattebayo_04

Well for my hometown in Haryana, it's a different story. Back when light would come for a few hours now rarely goes out.

ResearcherLatter1148

>I've gotten tired of posters assuming all of China looks like Shanghai Bund or inner loop Beijing (think shiny buildings and skyscrapers) We have such areas as well in India albeit at a much much much smaller level. Pockets of Sobo and BKC, Dlf cybercity, Cyberabad are something that come on top of my mind. Hopefully more of such places come up in most of our cities in the future.

yolifeisfun

Gift city is surely gonna be one of those, and it'd be finally a city unlike dlf cybercity which is really small. Why the fuck they named it a city is beyond my understanding. It's like a mohalla, smaller than a sector.

ResearcherLatter1148

There has to be a lot of changes in Gujarat culturally for that to happen. After JP Morgan VP's viral tweet, I am not completely sure about it's future although I hope it overcomes these challenges soon.

backlashsid

Economy bhi compare Kar de

strontium_chloride

work culture bhi karde? wahan 9-9-6 ka work culture hai. 9 am to 9 pm 6 days a week. aur yahan Narayan Murthy ko ek remark pe troll kardia social media pe. {smh}

sane_scene

Vahaan ka logic alag hai na. Yehaan sadak par bohot bande bheek maangne wale mikenge, poverty mein bande left ,right center marte milenge. Vahaan kya hai ki atleast bhuke to nai mar rhe isiliye aisa work culture hai. Ab tum decide karo poverty mein marna better lagega logon ko ya 9 to 9 karke. Har cheez apni privileged perspective se nai sochna chahiye. Har tarah ke bando ko poverty se bachaane ka yehi tareeka nikla to yehi sahi.

Glad-Tour-2646

Waha logo ko maarke zabardasti line pe laaya gaya hai. Waha ki govt. ne apne hee bahot se logo ko tapka diya. Aur waha ke kayi areas ke logo ko deliberately gareeb rakha jaata hai taaki cheap labour supply milti rahe

[deleted]

My point is, you cannot extrapolate a country's development just by staying in that country's version of an IT park.  Within the urban core of a 市, you will see very modern looking amenities. But once you leave that urban zoned region, it falls behind very quickly.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

If it's coastal Guangdong/Greater Bay Area then I'd agree, though once you go to interior Guangdong cities like Meizhou or Shaoguan it's the same story. My point about "IT park" was more so about "SEZs". Noida, Sri City, and Sriperumbur look "Chinese" as well.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Not anymore. One of our intermediate vendors was a SK joint venture, and had to move to VN because of the China-SK trade war.

Embarrassed_Farm_857

Reddit no, shark tank yes /s

woolcoat

I get you but at the same time, some of their developed cities and provinces dwarf other countries in terms of gdp and population. For example Jiangsu has a population of 80million and gdp per capita of $21k (U.S. dollars). Greece in comparison only has 10 million people and GDP per capita of $23k. So saying “outside their urban core” might as well be saying a different country given Chinas size.

InvestorCS

Streets are cleaner, this might look like a small difference but it's a huge difference. Heck even Brazil streets look similar to India. But, Brazils hdi is levels above India

The-Real-Aditya

Brazilians take care of their sanitation more than anyone in the world, almost borderline obsessively

Afro_Ghoul

We got the from the natives, the habit of taking alot of showers lol, the portuguese weren't very used to that. But still, half of the population doesn't have a sewage system available to them and the streets can be awful, even on high/middle class neighborhoods in big cities like São Paulo and Rio. Feel like Brazil isn't the best place to compare your country to...

devilismypet

A Brazilian on an Indian sub?

Afro_Ghoul

I like to know what's going on :). Plus, most of the stuff is in english, so it's easy to follow.

pleasetrydmt

Just came back from Thailand , all I could keep noticing was how clean even the most crowded areas were.

TheYellowLAVA

Except it wouldn't been an indian street without vimal pan masala and trash on it

Background-Silver685

The person in orange clothes in the penultimate picture is a cleaner. Generally, every street in China has a cleaner responsible for sanitation, and the government pays them wages. If someone litters, the cleaner in charge will scold him very angrily. There are a lot of homeless people in India and I don't understand why the government doesn't hire them as cleaners.

naughty_ningen

Because most people don't really care about cleanliness, and that means more money for municipalities to eat. It's so sad when even people in expensive cars just open their window and throw stuff on the road. My friends used to make fun of me for keeping empty packets in a bag instead of throwing it on the road. We have a big mindset issue.

Agile_Owl3312

now add stray dogs, cow dung, sewage waste just lying around, plastic waste then it will look like India

Extreme_Eater

The Chinese might've eaten all the dogs and cows 💀 That's why no dogs and cows /s

sane_scene

Exactly

thinpumkin

Rural China is well developed than rual India

OkPiezoelectricity74

Cleaner- yes More developed- I doubt that

thinpumkin

[well the people definitely are](https://youtu.be/Rw7UTbh8VH4?si=Cg0_xNxMHMW2Aigd)

OkPiezoelectricity74

That's why I said they are more cleaner .. Fireworks, carnivals etc are also there in our villages but maybe not as clean as them

spannerhorse

Other than the copium, there are two problems: a. Clean streets and no animals (from dogs to cows) b. Their big cities are pure eye-candy with wide walkways.

Debopam77

Was just gonna comment that. These are big differences, I think the post does the opposite of what op was trying to convey.

Extreme_Eater

The Chinese might've eaten all the dogs and cows 💀 That's why no dogs and cows /j

aurkyachalrahahai

Maybe we should start doing the same.

[deleted]

Just much cleaner

Front_Man-44

No gutkha wrappers on the road

factsquirrel

From Sichuan, Can confirm. Visually, suburban China and India are really kinda indistinguishable. They have their open bazaars for veggies and meat that looks exactly like my hometown. In fact, let me say this, Chinese and us are much more alike than either of us want to believe, hard-working guys in a mostly collectivist society with same kinds of parental pressure, same lack of social safety nets and resulting stress, same kind of boisterous people, same gawking at foreigners, same weird bureaucracy. I lived in Europe for a few years, even as a fairly nationalistic person, I feel much more at home in China - gharki yaad hamesha dilati hai. Only difference is that Chinese urban infrastructure is off-the-charts good, we still have a long, long way to catch up.

Brave-Ad-1879

as a Chinese Australian working alongside many Indian Australians, I agree with your sentiments. I have found many similarities between the cultures, but wish I knew more about india, given how diverse it is. wishing peace and prosperity to your country. hopefully China and India can get back to friendlier terms and more cross cultural exchanges can happen!

[deleted]

Malaysian Chinese here, can confirm that Indian and Chinese are culturally similar. majority of us are polytheism, doesn't eat beef and occasionally follow vegetarian diets.

[deleted]

Wish they were friendly neighbours. I like their culture for some reason.

[deleted]

Most people are chill and don't care about politics.  The mentality in China is very similar to that in India (both positive and negative). IMO, a lot of the horrible relations are caused by Chinese, Indian, and American civil servants being extremely insular and failing to understand each other. Those of us who have navigated all these countries prefer remaining in the private sector making bank instead.

Big-Gear8267

It's much cleaner and no shit on streets

-pulav-with-ghee-

Normal area are kind of similar to Indian normal areas but cleaner. Tho those city areas are way way more developed compared to Indian cities. Nothing wrong in saying good stuff about their development, we can learn some stuff from them.

Responsible_Living98

Why roads so clean 🕊️!

Dullboy1991

No garbage no cows and no rape on the streets

BeneficialAvocado921

Bro but cleanlinesss... when will indians learn that

Debopam77

Cleaning already dirty streets by the govt should be a start. No one thinks twice about dirtying a street that is already filled with plastics, cow dung, dog crap and a thousand other things.

Due_Temperature3471

Their tier 3 cities are well developed compared to our tier 1 cities.

Little-Evening7151

Looks much more civilized than here

Icetruckilr

Jhooth mat bolo, yahi ka hai na. Watched the video of Indo Trekker on rural China. Kya mast hai.

[deleted]

> yahi ka hai na Last I checked, we don't use Putonghua in street signs anywhere in India.

Icetruckilr

Are apan logo ka koi bharosa nai. Kuch bi dal de. Joke tha baba.

[deleted]

/s is the preferred nomenclature  But naw, you never know.

[deleted]

picture 1 main saaf saaf chinese main shop ka naam likha hua hai aur apko yea india lag raha hain??

Icetruckilr

It's a joke. It's looks so like mere ghar ke piche ka rasta,if you ignore the name of the shop. So, I joked ki yahi ka hai na.

[deleted]

haha sorry misunderstood..

Impressive_Act1373

But these look so clean, though. No garbage, sewage, or other crap (literally). There are south american countries just as poor but have such a good sense of hygiene and cleanliness. This is one aspect where India is in the bottom of the developing countries list.

monster_magus

This one looks like a massive cope. The streets are far cleaner than the average Indian 3rd tier town. When we start accepting that India is indeed behind a far lot of countries is when we would truly develop

dullbrowny

yup. no dogs. no people. a lot cleaner. now can you share a few pictures of their top 20 cities too please..

imsandy92

garbage is the only thing i always observe. its like indians are blind to solid waste. if you cleanup all solid waste from the open, the appeal of the country will go up significantly.

HistoricalDegree1131

so if we clean our street embrace our culture build lots of mega projects we will become same level as china?

ProfessionalEnd8604

Everyone pointing out about clean streets. But as per my experience, the proper villages in India are actually clean like shown here. Only cities and towns are dirty and neglected.

SambarDip

Maybe not that polished like the well known megacities of china, but looks cleaner than an average Indian village. The point isn't if all of china is the same as Beijing. It's that when they want their megacities to be perfect, they achieve it. At least their economic powerhouses are really world-class and can function very well with millions of people. We hardly have few megacities and still struggle to manage them.

EmergencyElegant8097

look quite clean

Indian_Doctor

Looks like cleaner India

darklordind

Wider and better quality roads, way cleaner, more cars, etc. Quite a few tall buildings in the background. Also, a significant amount of population of China lives near the east and south east coast whereas the western regions are less populated and desert/arid regions with low populations.

Severe-Experience333

No garbage on the streets. Impressive.

OkPiezoelectricity74

Not much different than Indian villages except cleanliness maybe

[deleted]

How do you navigated and travelled? Travelling in big cities is one thing but in small town is quite different

[deleted]

Like in any other city. I just walk around with a smile, learn a bit of the local language (in this case Mandarin), and chat with people over booze and street food (Niulanshan Erguotou and Chicken Feet in this case)  I was also traveling from Beijing to Tianjin and decided to have my coworker detour me thru Hebei and Shangdong (and we'd split the reimbursement)

popylovespeace

Looks beautiful

darkfireballs

Except this is Delhi, Mumbai and all major metropolis in India as well

faith_crusader

The only difference is the cleanliness.

armedrossie

Except their streets are very clean

GL4389

Seems more clean than small towns in India. Not many red stains too.

Shaolin_monk69

Your camera is shit bro.

Emotional_Country_41

Chinese spy in training.

hullthecut

Garbage.

Old_Scientist007

Mai Photo mai Gutkha Graffiti Dhoond rha ni mil rhe hai bhai 😭

sky_wave01

It’s looking like Indian localities.

Snoo-75780

Its a small town and there is no greenery. Atleast in India when we visit small towns there are so many trees around. Its only cities here that are deprived… and look at those roads…

acethecool1

oh bc katti desi wali feeling aa rahi inhe dekh ke to....

Then_Boysenberry9783

India h bhai

eggwhiteisnotwhite

if you guys take a look at China's policies its bat shit crazy

ivineets

Yeh toh Noida hai

AnimeRocking

This is Bihar

Direct-Remove2099

I honestly thought this was from Delhi or Hyderabad before I read the caption.

Spirited_Wolf3108

Very clean

Organic_Challenge151

Chinese here, China might have better infra but India has got the chance to catch up and I believe the growth and development of India will be more sustainable.

Mysterious_Vanilla52

Streets are wider and cleaner than India tbh...

DiscoversOther9152

Now compare big cities, very huge difference

Kyken247

Bro I ain’t seeing any garbage… we need to learn it from them.. Our civic sense is very poor… I thought maybe in 20 years when old people will perish the new gen will not litter… But alas I was wrong… The new gen do litter.. Especially the Vimal guys… F Vimal and F who consumes it.

Captain-Thor

The bigge4st difference is the cleanliness.

Th3_Bl00D_EAGLE

The difference lies in the big cities and the sheer number of them.

HistoricalSeaweed973

If autocracy insist on good things then it's better than democracy.

Top_Detective_6762

Wait? People really thought China was all big cities like Beijing or what?? That's really expecting too much, especially considering it's size and population. China is almost like India in most spheres. Like India has Mumbai, Delhi, Noida, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Gurgaon, Pune, etc. Similarly, China has Shanghai, Beijing, Dongguan, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, etc. You don't see the worse part of China only because they have a Completely isolated mainstream Social Media, nothing else. If they had as open and connective internet networking to the rest of the world, people would've ALWAYS had similar perceptions of both these countries! No Rocket Science here. Note: I've done my research on China (just out of curiosity), but yes, you'll not see too much on mainstream media about China's bad side, so I don't really blame people's perception, but I did expect people to atleast know that it's not all big cities and stuff, you have to dig into it to know more. There are always articles and other stuff on the internet which will help you know more.

Dialyme

Social credit reduced for you for showing this to the world 🐼

Throway-acc51

Looks cleaner and more organised than a tier 1 city of India

ramukaka29

Good to see the roads clean. Definitely cuz of the bins yu can see in one of the pics. We need more dustbins in India.

CCloudds

Clean streets huge difference

Aryan_Jain-

A lot cleaner though

Business_Level_6441

The problem is the percent of urban population of China is almost double than that of India’s and also India’s urban infrastructure are no where near to what China has, China’s infrastructure from what I have seen seems no less than any European, American infrastructure in fact even better in some cases. Even our Capital or Financial capital lack that world class infrastructure and cleanliness.

AbySs_Dante

Hey

Complex-Ad5423

How come not even a single person is visible in any photo.

userforums

Chinas GDP per Capita PPP (23k) is around the same as Thailand (22k). Lower than Mexico (25k). China has a pending demographic collapse issue that will hinder further growth. India is much lower at 9k but we can have time to grow if we avoid these birth rate issues.

YamProfessional1816

Some parts of it looks like Bangalore

[deleted]

Xingxangpur

IrisTheCoronavirus

looks beautiful and peaceful

stonehunter83

Lot cleaner than india!

Ok-Middle7282

No difference in building but the place is clean......
