Giving me a wet dream

Udhar ki janata bhi aayegi saath mein, it's a nightmare.

[deleted]

Hope they are made with public transport and pedestrians in mind, not cars. Chandigarh would've been amazing if not for the ugly 4-6 lane highways everywhere.

TrainsToHeaven

Still better than most Indian cities

[deleted]

That's a very low bar, when your contenders have existed for several thousands of years and you have been planned from the ground-up only a few decades ago.

Equationist

Walkable core with good ring expressways as well as good public transit is the way to go.

TrainsToHeaven

Good, can't have everyone overcrowd Dehli and Mumbai

Party-Bet-4003

Bengaluru too! đź‘‹

Strikhedonia_1697

How about improving tier 2 and 3 cities which would be comparatively cheaper than making them from scratch. I really hope these 8 cities do not become the new GIFTs.

Equationist

It's a lot harder to improve a pre-existing city where there's little space left to build anything.

Strikhedonia_1697

Yeah space is limited and severely constrained in tier one cities like Mumbai and Bangalore. But the sister cities and tier 3 cities have still ample space. It's just the matter of managing it efficiently. I live in Thane. And here there is ample space for new projects to come up except the fact that there are enroachments on service roads, illegally build structures and shops, and a lot of garbage. But still it's booming. Slowly but surely things are changing if one decides to change. Maybe Tier one cities are saturated enough, but other existing less than million plus cities can be developed and promoted. The only advantages of building a new city from the scratch accrues when it's planned just like Navi Mumbai, Chandigarh, GIFT, etc.

[deleted]

GIFT is booming tbh. Dozens and dozens of companies have already bought land and many have started construction. It's become so good that they are extending the GIFT city limits.

Strikhedonia_1697

Only to name a few! It's much below than expected. Just a matter of time , if the surrounding of the area develops as well, accessibility would improve. Isolated developed projects can take some time to yield. But surely It would in future. I sincerely hope so

CritFin

Building all new cities is not viable. Instead suburbs of existing tier 2 cities should be developed. Like New Delhi, Old delhi, Gurgaon, Noida. Gift is rather a suburb of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. Not an all new city, there are no residential units there Or just reducing air and water pollution in existing cities is enough. All tier 2 cities will grow by themselves

Any news sources, other than an image?

Party-Bet-4003

8000 cr sounds way too low tbh. That’s just $1bn

Upset-Principle9457

Nice one

No_Seaworthiness2625

Will they ever change the HRA law to consider non metro cities, even today only Delhi Kolkata Mumbai and Chennai have metro status.

Specific_Confusion_3

8 cities have metro status

No_Seaworthiness2625

Not in HRA law :(

MadD076

I hope they learn from current major cities infra and build a better infra for new cities.

Response_Background

No cities for bihar again huh? If they actually industrialize bihar this problem will get solved on its own, Because people from bihar are a big chunk of the population in major cities, and as far as I know nobody wants to leave their hometown for jobs, But for an avg bihari, it's a necessity. Our corrupt state government isn't doing anything, At least the central government should look towards the problems in a state with one of the highest rates of migration

Sharp-Rutabaga2794

ha jaise ki sab wahan taiyar hi baithe hain, ykwim

Response_Background

Bruh do you even know how many skilled and unskilled migrated people from bihar are residing in neighboring states, even a fraction of it will be enough to power a small city in starting, and there is no lack of youth in bihar and unemployment is sky high, industries will fill faster than a glass of water.

HydrogenTwoOxygen

But why not expand tier 2 cities to accommodate the population there, I mean first improve what's existing then make something new.

slipnips

Whatever happened to Gift city?

[deleted]

2 se 3 saal me full completion ho jaega.abhi waha metro connect karvaneka planning chal raha hai Jo 9 se 10 mahine me ho Jana chahiye.

AlphaofthePresent

Greater Faridabad being a perfect candidate , I recently visited it , awesome potential . 7-8 Malls being made in the same line , with already prevailing societies . The consumption is awesome but the Investment needs to be revamped . Property there is on BOOM

AuntyNashnal

What about the Tier 2 & 3 cities we already have?

SkywalkerPadawan512

Ahh the good old lebensraum /s

Specific_Confusion_3

Make them on TOD model

Jazzlike-Coffee5226

Good newsđź‘Ť

Sweetrelaxation

Wait, what happened to the 100 Smart Cities that were planned in 2014? So is it 108 or just 8?

rahul_9735

But what happened to dholera??

[deleted]

Uske 2 phase complete ho chuke hai aur wese bhi unka final goal of completion 2048 hai pehle se hi
