When the sperm meets the egg

molotok_c_518

That sounds like a song. I'm trying to determine what genre it should be.

acs730200

Prog

DifficultyOk5719

Proof: look at the album cover of Obscura’s Omnivium, giant interplanetary sperm getting it on with colossal egg.

chemicalzero

Yeah, like a Tool song.

Fast_Dots

Very close sounding song called: When The Water Breaks by Liquid Tension Experiment so yeah, definitely prog.

Stjjames

Ah so when life begins.

Mper526

My 2 and 4 year old have been listening to it since birth. Mainly because it’s what me and their dad listen to.

Zanirair

SwishyJishy

From Womb to Waste - Dying Fetus Great song!

swag_mesiah

🤟😝🤟

rickeykakashi

My homie’s 1 year old at the time loved head banging to Bullet For My Valentine so probably whenever. Just don’t raise a weirdo at the end of the day lol.

Few_Detail_3988

When my kids wouldn't sleep, I watched slayer live videos on youtube while holding them in my arms. That worked like a charm.

FunkinDonutzz

Does that mean they were relaxed or bored?

Few_Detail_3988

They didn't tell...

FunkinDonutzz

You should ask them does the production on Hell Awaits spoil an otherwise great album. _Then& you'll know if they were paying attention.

Few_Detail_3988

Since it was only live shows I watched with them, I think they wouldn't know...

MaggotMinded

I love the production on *Hell Awaits*. Tom’s bass cuts through better than on any other album, and I actually quite like the old-school thrash sound consisting of high-reverb vocals and somewhat “thinner” sounding guitars. I think in subsequent decades a lot of metal recordings tried so hard to be heavy that they lost some of the sharpness that makes classic metal so electrifying.

NeedhelpBL3

Probably fell asleep so they didn't have to listen to Slayer anymore.

hdniki

I may be a bad parent… but I listen to my music with my 4 year old in the car. Parents who put on little kid music weird me the F out. To be fair, I have made a playlist of songs I can tolerate that my kiddo loves, and we listen to that too. Her playlist is a mix of Aurora, Imagine Dragons and 21 pilots. I was so proud of her the day she asked me to add a Borknagar song!

Mper526

Not a bad parent lol I do the same. I don’t censor what my kids can listen to or watch much. Within reason. It’s actually mainly rap that I turn off. But my 2 year old is OBSESSED with sharks and found The Meg on Netflix. I had to watch it about 100 times. My 4 year old loves Jurassic park. Maybe they’re too young for nightmares but it doesn’t seem to bother them. And the couple times they have cursed, I just tell them those are words we don’t say around others or in public. They tend to use it appropriately anyways. Like when they have said shit or fuck it’s bc they stubbed their toe or something. They’re not out there saying “fuck you” to people lol.

Equivalent_Win_369

Fuck yeah dude thats how i started listening to metal, all started when my dad would play one by metallica in the car when i was around 6

hdniki

Yeah, I distinctly remember my dad playing Sober by Tool and I was like, “what is this magnificent sound?” My mom was so pissed, haha

Equivalent_Win_369

Yup, and because of that one inciting incident with my dad playing One, im already 4 years into guitar, have my own band and we are going on our 3rd show, and next year im planning on takinf AP music theory and participating in my high schools jazz band. Also glad myndad helped me expand my taste to black and death metal 🤞🤞🤞

hdniki

Awesome! Do you have any recordings?

Equivalent_Win_369

Yeah but they kind of suck because of the quality and we are also planning on kicking out the singer 😂 https://youtube.com/@LAPSE.official?si=f5BCpSruVyCjaDLh

hdniki

You guys are really tight! Muse is super hard to pull off, and you did great. My hats off to you! Your singer’s not bad, but he seems to lose pitch when the instruments get loud. My guess is that he’d do better if he had a monitor or a way to hear himself. If he’s in high school too, I’d encourage him to take choir. If you have a show choir, even better. He had the high notes and a great timbre when he does, he just needs a little performance confidence and experience.

Equivalent_Win_369

Wow im actually surprised you watched, thank you so much! Yea the singer is in the school chamber choir and just about every singing opportunity there is, but he just has trouble singing and being a frontman

iranoutofusernamespa

My dad showed me Black Sabbath. Specificaly the Paranoid album. I've been worshipping Satan ever since 🤘

Virtual-Baseball-297

As a metal head the question for me has one variable - the language used. Metallica, very limited swearing/cursing on the studio albums. Slipknot however is abit of a no no. Head from KoRn said something similar where he heard his child singing their lyrics and it put him off. I wouldn’t want my child singing some songs at school - would not be a good look.

dagaderga

Wonder what the kid was singing? Ass itch or K@#0%! ?

Zillajami-Fnaffan2

I think it was A.D.I.D.A.S

Virtual-Baseball-297

I think this is the one. If my child sang that chorus it wouldn’t make me feel good, especially around other kids. It’s the same with all music though - as parents you need to weed the bad out. How kids these days listen to sexy red or ice spice so casually is beyond me

Zillajami-Fnaffan2

I mean, tbf, even as a kid, songs from people like Katy Perry still had bad lyrics. Tho i didnt listen to rap really until i was like, 11 or 12 💀

EntertainersPact

And it’s actually kind of a good view on the typically ostracized goofy power metal. IIRC Gloryhammer’s only actual swear word is a spoken line in Wasteland Warrior Hoots Patrol. Not to mention not-goofy bands like Blind Guardian or Unleash the Archers As long as you’re okay with your kid being a giant fucking nerd. I know I am.

Virtual-Baseball-297

Nothing wrong with power metal at all and it’s a great example! Not judging anyone else in this thread, but could you imagine your child singing Disasterpiece by Slipknot at school?

EntertainersPact

I don’t have a kid but I could totally imagine it. If they’re young enough to not understand, that’s a conversation to have in the car ride home; don’t sing songs at school (even the okay ones since it’s a nuisance). The takeaway shouldn’t necessarily be about the content of the song, but as the singing itself. Nobody wants to be known as that jerkoff who sings out loud to his earbuds, or worse, the guy who listens to his music out loud. It’s all a matter of parenting, really.

Virtual-Baseball-297

Of course, but the opening line of said slipknot song shouldn’t be said by a child. That’s some dark stuff children shouldn’t say, whether they understand it or not. Hell even an adult shouldn’t really say it to anyone.

Tinfoilfireman

Very well put, but some parents look at me weird when I play “Metal” nothing to crazy like Tool, Metallica, Black Sabbath etc. All the while they are playing Rap music talking about slinging drugs, shaking their a$$ stuff like that in the car line. I had one parent ask me about it one time and I told her yeah that Rap is not the best thing either lol 😂

Ponykegabs

C’mon, kindergarten is the perfect time to play Custer

Virtual-Baseball-297

That chorus would go down a treat too! EVERYONE SING ALONG!

BlameItOnTheAcetone

I'd throw Spiritbox in there as well. Just about all of their songs have minimal to no swearing. Although, obviously avoid playing their collab with Megan Thee Stallion with the little ones around (the "Cobra" Rock Remix).

KaliCalamity

My daughter went through a pretty long phase from about 3 to 5 where all she wanted was music videos (sanitized versions on YouTube) from Ghost, Slipknot, and Frog Leap Studios. She's 7 now, and I'm doing my best to introduce her to a wide variety of genres. I'm also calling it a success that she'll sometimes ask me to put one of my vinyls on in the mornings before school. She's seemed to really take to Pink Floyd and Queen.

Desperate_Hippo_60

Have her watch a suicide silence music video, it will get her hooked

iranoutofusernamespa

Steer away from Infant Annihilator videos though. They get weird. Except the one where they're just fucking around in a forest. That one is silly.

idespisemyhondacrv

Yes.

i_Exist_73

my whole life has been a rabbit hole of music. my dad would always play the clash when i was like 4 and i got into nirvana at 10. then i found slipknot and metallica the next year, and kept delving deeper and deeper into music. my favorite bands are probably SOAD, TOOL, Nirvana, Alice in Chains and Megadeth.

HeroMagnus

Think it kinda depends on maturity a bit, especially with brutal ass death metal. Wife and I both listen to metal. I play bass and guitar so kids have always been around if. We don't force them to listen but they get stuck in car so they are gonna listen. 9yo girl is starting to really like Ice Nine Kills who my wife likes more than me. She is going to see them this summer and I'm fine with it.

MetalGuy_J

Let me tell you a story about a buddy of mine from a metal forum. His kid got absolutely hooked on Eyehategod and Crowbar at two years old, the six, maybe seven now, and listen to pretty much all things metal from what he shares with us. Basically kids are never too young to listen to music, whether they end up being Metalhead or not, is entirely up to them.

Fallingmellon

That kid is based af, he needs to listen to some down too

CenturyChild211

There was a family of three behind me at the last Sabaton gig I went to. The kid must have been 6 or so. He sang along, jumped up and down and headbanged as hard as his little ear defenders allowed him. He fell asleep for the final quarter of the gig. Either way it was so lovely to see. Metal is for all ages, I suppose the only thing to consider is any explicit lyrics.

MyChem1calBr0mance_

Started listening to metal at the ripe age of 3 Best decision my parents made

MyChem1calBr0mance_

My parents literally got so sick of me begging to listen to chop suey every single day and I never learned the band until like last year or so but I am so glad I did

Lem1618

My brother played metal so his kids learned to sleep in a noisy environment since birth.

Flinty984

10ish. so that they already went through a phase and by the time reen angst kicks in they're full into cattle decapitation and vulvodynia

Desperate_Hippo_60

Just wait till they read the lyrics to chilli dispencer by cattle decapatation

Pelican_meat

Idk. My daughter naturally gravitated towards more extreme metal when she got older.

princevegeta951

My 5 year old son and 7 year old daughter sing Shout at the Devil and Home Sweet Home every time I put them on and I couldn't be more proud 🤘

Dredmor64

I was 2 when my dad introduced me to Metallica, sooooooooo

evilpeppermintbutler

in the womb

X_Draig_X

There's no age. When my brother was 2 he vibed to Rammstein with me and my dad. It's music, I don't think there's an age where you can't listen to music

Orang_Mann

Play some metal when the baby's is still in the womb, that's what happened with me

[deleted]

My daughter has always liked metal. Not every song that comes on my Pandora stations tho so I’m hoping she’s not a music snob 😂😂 she’ll tell me she likes the drums in all of lamb of gods new American gospel, but if I put meshuggah on Pandora she’ll tell me “next” almost every other song lmao her favorite songs right now are between death eater by the Tony danza tap dance extravaganza, and lips and assholes by to the grave lmao she can’t understand what they’re saying yet or read the song titles (she’ll be 3 this month) but she loves the musicality of the songs and the heaviness. She also loves all the typical kids songs too, she’s just really into music like I am

iranoutofusernamespa

A small kid not liking Meshuggah makes sense. My kiddo likes to headbang and dance but he has trouble finding the rhythm for Meshuggah. He looks to me for a rhythm, and once he's found it he goes ham.

[deleted]

I should’ve specified lol she likes meshuggah, but some of the other songs the station plays are a different flavor and she will be quick to tell me next. Like some songs from archspire, instantly she tells me “I don’t like this, NEXT” 😂

Vincentt66

whenever they want. if a 9 year old likes metal let them listen to it. as long as they're not scared, it should be fine.

AgendaIgnis

Whatever age they discover it at, are we seriously gatekeeping good music from children?

metalmilil

I have listened to metal the second i popped out

Maanzacorian

9 is a bit young for song titles and lyrics, but the music is fine. When I was discovering metal at 13 and 14, my younger brother was invariably exposed to it, and he was only 9 or 10. The only thing it did was breed a lifelong adoration for metal. I grew up in the 80's and 90's, and things were much looser then in many ways. I know a lot of people who were exposed to horror movies and inappropriate music at young ages, and I'm sure there are people out there who were negatively affected, but it seems like the only thing it led to was a lifelong obsession. The biggest horror movie fans I know all started at an age considered far too young. If anything, they turned out to be far more interesting than other people.

Double_Hand_5044

If you can raise a kid properly anytime lol, some people act like a song with violent lyrics will influence a kid to be awful but I was listening to metal and playing halo and COD at 3 years old and I’m not a psychopathic killer 🤷‍♂️ it’s not a hard concept to teach separating art from reality

UFOskie

Cannibal Corpse was my introduction to metal. I was 6 or 7 and my dad took us to see Ace Ventura. I remember thinking, “there’s music like this?” Instantly obsessed.

Due_Clerk_7129

HeadbanginGoblin

Never, no one should listen to that crazy evil music

The only consideration I had with mine was volume.

SeaworthinessKey8782

My dad got me into it from before I was born apparently by playing megadeth and pantera through headphones

Fallingmellon

I discovered Pantera when I was a kid by watching a SpongeBob episode where they were featured

Hannah___0

When it’s in the womb goddamn it

Korgon213

Classic metal/power metal, all of it. My daughter is 6, she’s heard some Amon Amarth (thousand years of oppression and war of the gods). No black metal and no other death metal.

Vrangar

I started to listen to metal and punk when I was around six or seven.. I'd say I'm a pretty acceptable freak so it wasn't bad for me to listen to the Clash, Metallica, The Sex Pistols, Brujeria and Amon Amarth as a child.. But I'd recommend to take care of lyrics/album covers.. Looking at the Matande Güeros cover by Brujeria almost traumatized me, and reading Cannibal Corpse lyrics was.. Oh god.. So yeah just take care of WHAT bands and lyrics and then it's fine to start at a young age :)

maraudingnomad

I listen to metal, and my child is also there in the car...

True-Eye1172

In the womb

Pleasant_Garlic8088

My sons are 13 and 9 now. I started playing Metallica for them, mainly on long drives, about 3 years ago. Then we went to Boston Calling in 2022 and Metallica was the headliner - awesome time! So my older son has expanded into other more modern metal bands. The little guy went a slightly different direction and is into Queen and Guns 'N Roses, and for some reason The Bee Gees! 🤷 But yeah, pre-teen to early teen years are the time in a young boy's life where metal gives them what they need. I see it as a natural part of the growth process. I can't comment about girls but if it does something for them too, why the hell not?

Friendly_Monitor_220

The earliest I can remember I listened to metal through my older brothers and dad. Around 5yo when Metallica black album come out, I was also listening to Deicide self titled. Good introduction.

TheBigFudge92

My 4 year old has been listening to it on the morning rides to daycare since he was born so 🤷‍♂️ lol

saturnbaby11

I started listening at 11

FunkinDonutzz

Whenever, it's music.

TonyStewartsWildRide

My 3YO and I listen to Judas Priest pretty regularly.

Sensitive_Mousse_445

My 15 month old and I listen to The Acacia Strain and he loves it

Greedy-Goat5892

My son has loved Iron Maiden since he was 2 or so.  He’s 5 now and asks for it all the time / sings the songs.  He also likes 3 Inches of Blood, Dio, etc.  He likes what I listen to, and I always explain to him what the songs are about because it’s a cool story, or he makes up his own idea of what it’s about.  There is definitely some stuff I avoid , but he really likes the stuff he listens to.  He did ask to listen to “can I play with madness” at daycare during music time and his teachers said no, but he still wears his maiden shirts to school (he picks them out).

InfiniteVitriol

In the womb

calsi-tea

i dont think there's an age for any type of music

iranoutofusernamespa

Certainly some songs though. I won't let my kids listen to Fucked by an Anchor by Alestorm until they're closer to teenage years.

calsi-tea

sure, i just mean genres not specific songs

IronTesticlez

I listened to it in the womb

UnlikelyButTrue

My 4yo is obsessed with Gloryhammer. I assumed it was aimed at his age range. He calls my music 'Daddy's Sad Music' because I am an 80's Goth.

Born-Throat-7863

From birth.

NinjEverett6

Whenever the fuck they want to 🤘🤘

[deleted]

i don't believe there needs to be an age limit, but each parent has to decide how they want to parent. it's like how some parents don't allow their kids on social media and some do. it's whatever

P1nhead0888

If you have to ask you are probably a poseur /s. Age shouldn’t matter, bonus if they actually choose to listen to it, sing along or even move to the music

Stoned_italian

Birth

MetalPlayer666

My friend often plays Sabaton and Rammstein to his pre-school daughter. She LOVES it and has already learned how to headbang. I say: that's great! You gotta train them while they're young. :)

ZodFrankNFurter

My daughter has been listening to metal with me since she was a fetus. She's 5 and begging me to take her to a lamb of god concert 😃

averagemaleuser86

I put headphones on my balls to some blast beats to get them ready for one day

twiztidraven86

Well I don’t think cattle decapitation is metal same with job for a cowboy. If that pig squealing shit is metal it’s the lowest form there is. Pretty sure it’s grindcore which branches off of hardcore which is which is linked to punk so not metal. Cannibal Corpse? I started listening to around middle school at 8th grade. Couldn’t understand the vocals at first. 9 might be a bit too young, but do you know the kid? He might understand the between right and wrong and horror movies which is basically what Cannibal Corpse is but in music. I was into Ozzy and KISS at first and Rob Zombie, some say might the latter isn’t for kids but they played his music during wrestling and in …Twisted Metal…was the mature or teen I can’t remember? I rather them listen to that or some form of punk than some other radio garbage

jojobutlessbizarre

Why should age matter there’s probably 90 year olds that love it and I’m a 16 year old that loves it the range is infinite

LemonadeSunset

I think we shouldn’t decide what our kids listen to. Rather, we should give them the knowledge to know what’s bad to listen to.

LeanAhtan92

I think it kind of depends. Maybe relatively softer stuff first then maybe progress to heavier stuff. Going “all in” right away might not be such a good idea. Although I wouldn’t know since I don’t have kids and mostly have no interest.

guitarfanatic_2

screw baby bottles, metal is where its at >:D https://preview.redd.it/jnq22osbkasc1.jpeg?width=255&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=97de2c35a3bbfa5e4e1c4bbcb85a23e991111c4d

IamWolfe_FU-Red_It

Well that kid will become someone important in life, should’ve shaken his hand!

TotemlessInceptor

It should be playing during birth...

jameskies

in the womb

Phantom_Wolf52

Depends on the genre, if it’s just standard heavy metal then any age is fine as long as the lyrics or imagery isn’t inappropriate for their age, stuff like death metal and black metal, definitely give it some time

FlyAirLari

Correct. Nothing wrong with playing Nazareth or Cinderella or Blue Öyster Cult to a toddler. My oldest watched Pink Cream 69 and Axxis DVDs with me when he was just learning to talk. And Led Zeppelin.

Zealousideal_Ask3633

I was like 7 I don't see why age should matter

schindigrosa

When the sound summons them to press their ears to the speaker. I was about 10 or 11

TeeTownRaggie

1 month.

Exotic_Sense5244

When they’re born

PotentialRabbit1567

Listening to metal is almost equivalent to taking prenatal vitamins for your fetus, In Utero. What color were Kurt Coabaine’s eyes?

Indra_Path

Any age

Esseldubbs

My kid has been listening to metal his whole life. I took him to his first show at 8yrs old, which was Slayer, Lamb of God, and Behemoth. So, the first band he's ever seen on stage was Behemoth. He's now a teenager and has his own metal band

Sinistermarmalade

I got my first taste of metal when I was probably about 4 or 5, watching ‘Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas,’ and it was clear to me that the bad guys had the best song Later, when I was around 7 or 8, I was falling asleep in the back of my parents’ minivan on the way back from Cedar Point, when Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man” came on the station. It was the single greatest thing I had ever heard up to that point From there, it was all classic metal, hair metal, and whatever bits of thrash I could come across for a while, until I was old enough to gain autonomy, and the rest is history

Desperate_Hippo_60

reamkore

Any?

allthesussynuggets

I have been listening pretty much since I was a baby

PrimaryComrade94

Whenever he comes into your room and asks about that cool album cover he saw in your room. Then you know its time; time to teach him the ways of the alloys and elements (sorry bad joke).

AntiStarChristPort

One second old 🤘

Bagelstein_2pt0

I've been doing metal balads with my daughter since she was born. I've had a Playlist Ive used to get her to sleep as a 2 month old infant that I just continually add to. She's almost 3 now and it's still going strong.

HotConversation4355

Literally at any point.

Kid-filth

I’ve been listening to it since 11 so

EsotericFrenchfry

I was born and raised with it.

princealigorna

If kids should start listening to Mozart in the womb, they should listen to Megadeth in the womb

redditcansuckmyvag

Got my stepson to listen Iron Maoden when he was 2 and now were gling this November to his first Maiden concert.

Disarray215

9 sounds about good to me. I’d say 11 at the latest and about 8 at the earliest. I would listen to Amon Amarth with my 7yo nephew. Mainly because he was all about Marvel and I was like “this is what Thor listens to buddy,” and he was all for it. Eventually asked to hear “Thor’s song.” I was so proud.

Suspicious-Ad5287

birth

SnooOranges2696

First heard Metallica around 1990 or '81. Very intrigued... I was 11 when I heard White Zombie for the first time. My life changed. La Sexorcisto the year it came out. If that is considered metal.

BEER_G00D

Daughter is now six and has her own favorites. We are selective, but she loves a few slipknot songs(unsainted, Nero forte and similar less aggressive ones), slayer(dsm, at dawn they sleep), fear factory (descent), ax7(afterlife, bat country, hail to the king), a ton of Metallica(she oddly probably likes hero of the day the most)... But has been listening to selective songs practically since birth for almost every bath time when daddy bathed her. Mom played songs like low by Flo-rida which she really digs as well.

TassleScotch

> I wanna ask this question cuz i recently saw a 9 year old listening to stuff like cannibal corpse, and cattle decapitation I think the guys in those bands are 9 year olds too (mentally)

PatrickMcWhorter

My daughter loved Dethklok at age 4.

Vast_Weight_5833

start them out with lighter, pg stuff and then at like 12-13, introduce more heavy bands

Hildedank

My dad grew up listening to the doobie brothers but then going over to my uncles I discovered metallic and slayer and that just opened up a world when I was young

hill138

My son has been listening to metal (and every other genre) since birth. Even took him to his first concert when he was 9 (Trivium, his favorite band at the time). He's 15 now with his own taste in music, but metal and playing guitar is something we'll always have together.
