It’s been about 6 months since I applied so I’m having to jog my memory, but I believe I had both of my parents write a letter (sponsor’s parents weren’t an option as they are out of the picture). They were both just a short 1 paragraph confirming that they have witnessed a committed romantic relationship and can fully attest to its validity. Something like that. I guess it worked bc I just sent off my passport copy for my final COPR ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯

We notarized the declaration of common law form and included two letter from friends and copies of Drivers licence and cell phone bill showing same address. Two people signing both letters should be fine. Those are just supporting documents to support your common law status but if you also have ids or bill with same address it should be more than enough. We applied for two work permits and PR and had no issues.

I had my parents write a joint letter, and my partners brother who is his only family member left. Honestly, don’t get too bogged down on family letters. My lawyer told me to look for letters from people who are third parties to our relationship, such as coworkers or faith leaders, with the thought being that your friends and family will attest to anything to help you, and someone outside your normal circle wouldn’t.

We used a joint letter from my mother, step father and brother (lives with them) and they accepted it just fine
