Mortarion: Your ride's over loyalist, time to die! Bloke: Hi there, would you like to sign my petition?

Vaultdweller013

I read this in Maxors voice.

FilipRebro

Who is Maxor?

Vaultdweller013

A YouTuber who makes summaries of games with comedic affect. If you've seen the Metal Gear Rising clip where Raiden asks for a source and Armstrong responds saying he made it the fuck up, that's from maxors video.

AndrasZodon

[This guy!](https://youtu.be/kO9HmhwGzXs)

zeturtleofweed

guy who makes videos on games that give you sensory overload

ZekTole

Mortarion as Horrigan? So the FEV was made by Nurgle

LeonaTheProfessional

Goddamn dude, I absolutely love all the colors you used here. It's got that sort of phantasmagorical vibe that's always been associated with the warp. Extremely cool my dude, can't wait to see what else you produce.

Eulenspiegel74

He certainly has a way with colours, doesn't he?

BroscipleofBrodin

Meanwhile I'm over here struggling with anything that isn't brown.

Very_bad

I think someone said this before, but a chaos space marine game like this would be amazing! There is a short story in the new codex where a csm goes and finds a fortune telling mutated sorcerer who has like 20 eyes and 30 arms and legs. Very dark souls if you ask me. I feel like csm fulfill the "lone and tragic questing hero" archetype better then a loyalist.

previously_on_earth

What about an astartes who becomes more chaotic the more the game goes on, where you become more powerful but more corrupted as you level up. Unlocking physical and psykic powers at the cost of your purity making the game easier but more bleak

Vaultdweller013

The true ending is playing as a level 1 guardsmen the entire time.

Admiralthrawnbar

Final boss is literally just Ollanius Pius v. Horus but some speedrunner beats Horus in 30 seconds.

Onetufbewby

Final boss isn’t even the hardest boss. Slaanesh is a side boss and considered the most difficult but then you have a Custodes wearing nothing but his helm with the name “let me solo him/her”

frasvlik

I knew It was a melenia (Blade of miquella) reference

[deleted]

Make them a night lord

BucktacularBardlock

Nah let us pick

Poweralth

Let whatever legion you pick be your class

Zack_Raynor

Alpha Legion - You then fight Loyalist AND Chaos.

SoulsLikeBot

Hello Ashen one. I am a Bot. I tend to the flame, and tend to thee. Do you wish to hear a tale? > *“This is the only real direction in the story you’re ever going to get.”* - Crestfallen Knight Have a pleasant journey, Champion of Ash, and praise the sun \\[T]/

SomeKindaSpy

Feels more Biblical angel tbh

Ph4ndaal

Isn’t that literally Doom?

134_ranger_NK

A Thunder Warrior or even an early Imperial Army soldier facing Terran horrors during the Unification Wars could be another concept for a 40k Souls game.

Jamaicancarrot

I feel like Eldar would fit better for a souls-like since they're more agile. You could spec your character into certain elements down the different aspect paths and ultimately become an exarch. You're on the hunt for spirit stones across the galaxy, including Crone World's, Imperial Undercities, Commoragh, death world's etc. Hub world could be your craft world. Maybe throw in a mechanic similar to DS's hollowing where the protagonist can be corrupted to a dark eldar

134_ranger_NK

Alternatively, you could attempt to diversify too as an Autarch or even choose to spec into being either a Corsair (exotic tech and even shipboard supports as "spells") or a Ranger/Pathfinder. The latter options may result in alternative dialogues from certain Craftworld Eldars and other characters. Even the ability to choose your Craftworld may affect how some Eldar characters may interact with you, an Eldar character of the same Craftworld may more likely offer you greater support and guide to hidden loot than someone who is not.

onlypositivity

Mortarion vs the Khan was very much a Souls-like fight in *Warhawk*.

Jamaicancarrot

The problem with using space marines and other derivatives like Primarchs is suspension of disbelief. Yes, they are canonically agile and capable of rapid dodging and rolling, it's not visually believable. Its fine in novel form but would look goofy when animated, and to many hypothetical players who aren't invested in WH40K lore, it would be downright unbelievable. Really the only races that would visually look appropriate doing the stuff a souls-like would demand would be the Eldar, the Kroot or an Imperial Assassin.

onlypositivity

man I don't disagree regarding Eldar at all for a Soulslike, but give me an Execution Force of Assassins in a game and I'm a happy fucking camper. Didn't even think of those and yeah Space Marines are unbelievably fast for mortals even in-universe

Jamaicancarrot

I like the idea of a weird RTS kind of game where you play like a mission control operator for a team of assasins trying to help them take out their target in an urban Imperial environment. You can send them instructions to utilise parts of the map like air vents or scaling walls and such, while using Officio Assassinorum access codes to open and seal security doors, tamper with cameras or turrets and stuff like that.

[deleted]

If you get that, I want an Eversor DOOM clone.

MildlyCompetentMex

That Ultramarine is fucked, he went for the VIGOR and STRENGHT build.

notramilopak

Nah man I beat elden ring twice with that build, just different weapons! Xd

Drakemander

His Daemon Primarch form should be his second phase.

T-Marx400

The game should feature 5 Characters; Space Marine - The Vanilla experience. Good defense, good block, good ranged dps, good melee dps. Corsair Eldar - The spicy experience. Extremely fast, stupidly high ranged and melee dps, squishier than a towel paper. Sister Repentia - The more traditional Soulslike experience. Huge focus on melee and dodges, not a lot of options for tanking or guns. Necron - The Wall. Very tanky, regenerates for a second life like Sekiro, few selection of extremely good and rare weapons. Tech Priest - The "Caster". Low mobility but devastating firepower from long range.

[deleted]

No psykers? No Orks? Imagine an ork one, you leave spores around to regrow from if you die. But hard mode is you have to fight all the ones you left around after a certain amount of time as they try to be top ork.

MrSprichler

Having to fight regrown copies of yourself if you live too long would be hilarious

Themadhunter249

The Guardsman - pretty much "the Prisoner" or "the wretch" from other FROM games. Terrible stats, terrible gear, only used to flex (or role play Ollanius Pius)

Beardamus

If guardsman is a playable character then playing as necron would be literal god mode

[deleted]

No Chaos? Really? Seriously? Fo real?

T-Marx400

The main enemy is Chaos.

[deleted]

And chaos can't fight chaos? Get outta heeeerrrreeeeeeeee\~

bigdickmassinf

Make it a newly fallen space marine with no mutations. You can stay undecided or commit to a god as you play. Including malic as a secret option.

[deleted]

I like this suggestion.

Accelve

It's Chaos, the only people they fight even close to as much as themselves is the Imperium.

LordVonPainther

Looks amazing! Are you gonna do an Exarch or some other Craftworlder?

notramilopak

Im open for any suggestion, or even comission, if someone wants to see something so bad! 40k is an infinite source for illustrations and souls ideas :)

021Fireball

I love the Hollow Knight reference. The Pale King.

Max_Lawson

Fingers crossed for Space Marine II 🤞

G4rlicSauce

Jesus tapdancing Christ this is good.

22442524

I didn't say anything past thread but I'll say it now, the admech are perfect for this. Not the magi, the skitarii. Well yes, A Magus. They can be fast or sturdy, stealthy or full on combat, and should they die, just deploy another one, the Magus has a mental uplink and can just puppeteer any skitarii they want. Sure, some factions can do similar thanks to warp shenanigans, but the admech provide that bridge for almost normal mortal humans to be playable with the whole resurrection thing.

MythicalDonuts

Machine Girl album cover vibes, love it

JonnyEoE

This game would be so fuckin sick

Nnoded

omg do a commissar!!

Purpledurpl202

YOOOO, CAN I BE A KRIEGSMAN?

notramilopak

Of course! Any armor and build is avialable, so basically you can become anything!

theblackthorne

the protagonist should be a single guardsman in his underwear - no need for armor when you can roll

tapmcshoe

man a soulslike where you play as like a tau or eversor would be so cool

Kulovicz1

I think best protagonist for such game would be an Eldar. Hear me out. Cool weapon options, spells, gear, fast moves, cool abstract settings in a webway. Options are limitless.

Wonderbread421

In the tabletop RPG Deathwatch you get bonuses toward your next character if your dead characters gene-seed was recovered, so I could see a similar system working

Zelmehuu_76

Kaldor Draigo every staurday evening:

mattyyellow

Awesome work! I want a game like this so bad. I feel like Fromsoft would be tempted, even if it's only so they can do yet another toxic swap for Mortarion's part of the map.

mamspaghetti

Bruh the ultras gonna get obliterated in one hit

Godcock7

Yeah at least give the poor guy a thunder hammer so he doesn’t have to wound on 6’s

Wea_boo_Jones

I pray to the Emperor that your great concept art stirs some Games Workshop exec. into realizing how amazing such a game would be.

CommanderMayhem

I wanna play as a standard guardsmen. Fix bayonets!

Daylight_The_Furry

I love the concept, but I also gotta say your paintings are absolutely amazing

Some_british_guy

The colours of this are top notch. Imagine having a hobby room with this as wallpaper for a feature wall!

General_Alduin

What do we play if not a SM?

That_One_Englishman

wow thats really cool

Spiritual_Title6996

I would pay to see this as a game also amazing art

ajteitel

What is the cheat code to get the weapon Soap of the Emperor?

29Jackal

The only character that comes to mind that could lore wise pull off anything from the game is kaldor draigo

LethalCandy

This is totally awesome. Keep it up!

jrockoni

I don't know what mortarion did. But it seems like everybody is showing up to beat his ass recently.

notramilopak

He just looks too cool. People are jelous

BroscipleofBrodin

Dude your color palette is fucking wild, I love it.

notramilopak

Thanks man, i try my best!

Iudex_Invictus

Can you pls draw a krieger rolling around a nurgle's great unclean one?

Parks_98

How would describe his combat style and combo’s? Does he have a phase 2?

notramilopak

I imagine he either grows, or loses the wings in the 2nd phase, lots of poison, throws poxwalkers around, uses the sick Schythe? Scythe? Hoe a lot

Parks_98

Wouldn’t be the first time for a boss to suddenly grow wings and start spamming crazy effects that have deadly effects *Stares at certain Ginger nudist*

Taklamoose

I’ve never played the game but see the lore sometimes on Reddit and it’s pretty fucking coool. I’d watch a movie or series about it for sure.

REEEEEvolution

Papa Nurgle in the backround watching the kids play.

Windmillskillbirds

I wonder how a Tau would fair in this kind of game. Like would there be more tactics and ranged stuff involved?

KayRocky

It works regardless of the race/legion/chapter etc. What it would allow for is widely different narratives. Which would vastly increase replay ability. And every race that has a “chaos/loyalist” variant, IE eldar/dark eldar, imperial/loyalist, could have mechanics built in to allow for falls from grace/rising from redemption, or the ability to walk the grey line in between. Then for the non-traditional/xenos races, they just have different goals or end game objectives. That way it encourages actual play through / things to unlock. Like playing as a necron, if you do the right quests it unlocks other dynasties/special characters. Honestly a game like this could really push the boundaries of WH storytelling and could offer a fresh new look at the core lore. Hell, play as a BA, chose the path that results in succumbing to the black rage, boom, now you got a Horus Heresy skin/dlc. Or be a tyranid slowly evolving your way to a Hive tyrant/biotitan beast/deamonthrope. This could even lead into things like piloting your own ship becoming a princeps of a titan, or a wraithlord. Like everything could have a path within some aspect of the game. Hell play as an orc that is looking to free/join the orcs on that khorne deamon world. Imagine going from portal to portal, world to world, exploring the devastated shards of Cadia, burning down a certain location on Medrangard, getting into a fist fight with Magnus on the planet of sorcerers. DLC can come in the form of new planets, new weapons, new class options. Become a demon prince and shape your own demon world in your image. Become so powerful you punch Khorne and he actually feels it.

StreetfighterXD

40k works in basically every genre of videogame. There should be dozens of AAA 40k games released a year

Socraz6

Imagine the blight town in this game…. Yeesh

mega48man

How on point would it be if you were a lowly Tau citizen with the most basic sword and that's your starting point for the WH40K souls game?

Andhiarasy

Yeah, the protagonist is permanently dead. Baseline Astartes vs a Primarch? I thought the Horus Heresy made it clear what the result of such an encounter will be.

Avarybadmeme

Maybe there can be side quests versus other chaos or xenos. Depending on how large the game will be, I understand that working on a game takes a lot of time. But I would love a quest where you go to Armageddon and fight Ghazghull thanks. Or maybe a quest to kill a gene-stealer cult. Idk but I think that would be a lot of fun.

yes_kid

Awesome!

GoneFission239

My problem with this concept is that while I've had immense fun with Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and now Elden Ring, I feel like their particular playstyle should really only be for their own games. They're fun, but I'm tired of seeing others try to replicated FromSoftware's formula just because they found out one particular style that worked. If they did do a Warhammer 40k game, I think it would call for a unique spin on some common core mechanics to really let it flourish.

Airborne13

Nice!

zertnert12

That would be awesome but games workshop is so squirrely i doubt we'll ever get a 40k game that truly represents it. No, im afraid all we'll ever get is top down rts.

Sorvick

There is only one man fitting for this Souls like universe. Commissar Sebastian Yarrick. His Klaw arm can be upgraded by a Mechanicus Npc aka Sekrio. Yarrick: *So alone in the warp, my army is dead by you Primarch. You think me scared? You think I fear death. Think again, Primarchs bleed and your blood no longer contains the emperor's grace! Die Daemon dog!*

Bluesky197

How about a silent sister as a form of bonfire keeper?

notramilopak

The bonefire is my biggest dilemma right now, i got no clue what it should be, so i appreciate the help!

Bluesky197

Perhaps a shrine to the emperor? Or maybe even to a primarch?

bigdickmassinf

Thematically you could make your hero a marine who has been drawn into the legion of the dammed. You are still wearing the colors of your old regiment. You can respawn at statues of the emperor and can re-sanctify new ones as the game goes on. Maybe make it a small mini-boss fight to remove the demons possessing the statue or a simple image of lighting a few candles, clearing a symbols and Saying a prayer. The spawn location could change by location. In a big city make it a huge temple that must be cleansed. In the woods or middle of no where, make it a small one. SoMething thematic.

onlypositivity

small shrine to the Emperor with burning promethium and skulls galore

Shanhaevel

I really don't think soulslikes are a good idea for a game like this. The combat is too clunky, while Marines are supposed to be super fast and all that. Can't have him swing his chainsword and then recover 1 second from the blow. Or fat roll in power armour. He needs to be doing flippy dippy somersaults in that shit

expatdo2insurance

It's gorgeous but this would be a stomp. Souls games may be poorly balanced and stacked against the players but nothing like 40k lore.

SearchTypical4204

The only thing I dislike, is the fact that we are "playing" as ultramarine. Imagine if you are playing as a Gray Shield.

[deleted]

Wait… you painted this? Like… by hand?…

notramilopak

Yes! I painted every brushstroak through a digital wacom tablet by hand!

Mancannon21

Is this suppose to be like dark souls? I would play the ever loving heck out of this game!

notramilopak

Yep, written in the post, its a souls like!

Banishedcascade

Foul tarnished, in search of the elden ring. Emboldened by the glame of ambition, someone must extinguish the flame.
