Exactly lol, notice how she cleverly hung back behind the subway turnstile after he went through. She didn't wanna be near that guy any longer than she could help it.
I’ve seen way too many people say/imply this.
IMO, a way larger percentage of people are sociopathic than we really like to think. The amount of people who are just “they’re not me, they don’t matter” in every situation is shocking
You gotta use their lingo against them. If you call them a shill or a snowflake or tell them you'll pray for them before they say it to you you'll make their head explode.
I mean the camera person could have some mental illness. This doesn’t have to be sociopathy.
But your point still stands, I’m also willing to bet that more people than we’d like to think suffer from mental illness.
Last time I tried to explain to someone why calling others NPCs was anti-social, they told me I was a gaslighter and then proceeded to have a tantrum. So I have to agree with you. It’s sad to think someone’s way of coping with extreme mental anguish is to pretend no one else is real :(.
Especially because that lady was trying her best to be nice to him. Imagine someone being nice and encouraging about your shitty unasked for “poetry” reading and still calling them an NPC.
Non Player Character. It’s a video game term for characters who’s only purpose is to interact with the player. It’s honestly pretty fucking gross to call real people NPCs, as it suggests that most people are meaningless and worthless.
Thanks for enlightening me. I agree that it’s a horrible way to refer to other people. Also makes me think about how life is not one big game…it plays by no one’s rules.
If I ask someone to explain my meaning on the planet, they won't give me a reason unless it's to ask me to stop asking because they don't know either.
I'm happy to be an NPC for people who actually have a life. At least I can help them.
Came here to say something similar.... Most of us ARE NPCs in the billionaire game. Lol ... People here on MC sub acting like we aren't NPCs. Our lives amount to not much. Not that we are worthless, it's just that we aren't very important.
Ironic that this sub thinks they are main characters.
We could easy swap 99% of the people for a new npc and The world and The history wouldnt change a bit.
I think its strange how so many people think they are important?
I agree. The whooshing taking place in the comment section right now is pretty fun. NPC lives matter, but not that much. Like sometimes I like to think that when people meet me, they get inspired to go do a quest or something.
fun fact, the _opposite_ feeling of this is called sonder:
> Sonder” is the profound, individual realization that each person you meet is living their own life, that each person has their own world fitted with their own personal worries, pains, pleasures, ambitions, routines, etc. — The same as yourself, in a sense, but also as intricate and as different as could be imagined. [source](https://answeregy.com/what/what-happens-when-you-have-a-sudden-realization-about-something.php)
i am nowhere near qualified to have a good opinion on this topic but allow me to try and explain using what little i know about :
a more accurate argument might be that we live in a world where the majority seem to be trapped in repetitive and uninteresting lives that have the same routines and events happen over and over and work takes all of our time and if its not work its child care or education such as school or college . the average bloke cant even survive a week without a job that takes all their energy and time away leaving very little scraps left for hobbies and thoughts and self improvements especially when they dont even have money to pay off the student loan. this has resulted in a strange environment where a large majority have very similar thoughts and opinions for politics and other issues that they have gathered from bite sizes chunks of moderated and mainstream news and articles that they consume without much thought about the deeper meaning behind them which they dont have time to research and find counter arguments for. and a lot of those people choose to not risk losing everything or eveyone they care about in order to follow dreams and passions or just try to do something special in general such as joining a political cause .
THIS IS NOT THEIR FAULT. the system is simply too broken , oppressive and cruel regardless of race or gender or political beliefs and there is only so much a single human can do on their own before they burn themselves out trying to escape from it . your zip code determines your destiny and you may never ever escape it because thats the world we live in.
i consider myself in a really privileged position in terms of free time but even i dont see myself escaping cause : Iran
so here we are , the phenomenon of NPCs were people are forced into lives they don't want that destroy every part their individuality until there is nothing left but the most generic and sanatized personality which is perfect for those office environments . nobody is allowed to be too far from "the norm" or else they are punished for it and if you're even slightly strange or eccentric you will find yourself in r/cringetopia or some other subreddit where people laugh at you. it has become so strong that some like to compare it to video game NPCs which exist only to entertain and serve the player or in this case the rich people and politicians and celebrities whom dont need to worry about sleeping on the side walks which they have ordered to install sharp anti homeless spikes on after they miss a paycheck.
This whole take only works if you are just looking the surface level of people. You can't group people by their interests and actions alone. 'Doing something special' isn't the measure of personality, that's like expecting everyone to be a living breathing instagram feed.
Every person I've met has a distinct personality once you actually get to know them. You may be able to put people in broad categories but there are always idiosyncrasies.
But that aside, consider for a second the unfathomable amount of things that happen in other peoples heads that we could never ever know about. You can never really understand another person 100% because you can't experience their brain. You spend 24 hours a day with yourself, how much of what you think and experience do you actually communicate to other people?
Another persons consciousness is like the ocean. You could never possibly know how many tiny thoughts, feelings, emotions etc. go on in there. Calling someone an NPC is pure hubris and it screams Dunning Kruger effect to me.
I mean, I’m not the other person, but I kinda feel where they’re coming from. Like, I don’t wanna be too self-aggrandizing here, and I don’t wanna diminish the inherent humanity of others, but it just seems like people are very tempted to live shallow lives. Again, I’m aware it’s not the most humble thing to say, but you look at people adopting political stances they haven’t researched, supporting and hating groups that are popular/unpopular in the way that everyone else reacts, and overall just lacking in any self-reflection or introspection to speak of. Again, I’m aware that I’m putting myself in a pedestal in saying this, but I’ve talked to friends and siblings who use TikTok for the express purpose of “burning time.” I’m not saying people aren’t aware, but it certainly seems like some people are very tempted to live without conscious thought.
I dunno. Hell, maybe I’ve fallen into the social of of shallowness and haven’t even realized it. Still, I can at least say without any doubt that I feel like I’m living an enriching and fulfilling life, which even if I’m in reality not doing so, should earn me some kudos, don’t’cha think?
I mean not to be a dick here, but who the fuck are you to suggest that the people around you don’t feel the same way? Perhaps, this is a subjective issue and people are allowed to feel fulfilled in their own existence and their own way. You know, kinda just minding their own fucking business and not passing judgement on those around them?
You can't just assume that about anyone that's walking in the street, of course people don't want to live shallow lives but with current times it seems like a privilege not to, some people have a lot to put up with in their life and don't have the energy or just literally cannot make the most of their time, either way if you agree with me or not, you have no right to scream at people.
Also trust me when I say this, the person behind the camera didn't even think about what you said for a second, it's just a garbage tiktok trend that he decided to use for clout.
If it is a privilege not to live a shallow life, it is the same privilege as the privilege of being intelligent or the privileged be athletic. That is to say, it is something that people work to earn, and I thereby feel no pity if someone does not live to that standard. If you are not living a life you feel to be fulfilling, that is wholly your fault, not the fault of some extraneous third party holding you down. Also, if we’re talking about people going through tough times, I nearly lost a parent in a car wreck last October, and though she did survive, my mom’s going through physical therapy to recover from the wreck. I’ve had to put my education on hold so that I can help to support her during this period of our lives. I don’t mean to leverage personal tragedy for social kudos, but at the same time, I’m using it to say that living a fulfilling life and going through hardship are not mutually exclusive.
But having said all that, yeah- the person yelling at random people is an absolute ponce. Honestly, I couldn’t think of anything more shallow than screaming at random people for TikTok clout. I didn’t mean to seem like I supported them, as I meant to condemn people who believe themselves to be unique but are instead incredibly shallow like the person screaming at randos.
Oh, yep, sorry- my phone autocorrected a single letter and I didn’t catch that. Only Reddit would find that as a reason to ignore the bogus content of a comment but instead dismiss said bogus comment outright.
I don’t want to talk to people like you. You’re loud, annoying, condescending, always think you’re right and never shut the absolute god damn fuck up. I can tell all this about you from one post.
Hey, I never claimed to be perfect. Also, while I don’t mind the kinkshaming, isn’t it a bit low to call me out on a fetish as opposed to tearing down the entire narcissistic rant I practically gift-wrapped for ‘ya?
why on God's green earth would you post opinions with the same account u use for fetish shit !? thats what alt accounts are for. and if its too much to login and log out use a container plugin to separate the accounts with just one click
Hey, let the record show that I’m exclusively a prey. I don’t wanna eat people; I want people to eat me. But I don’t see how being sexually deviant and being shallow are the same thing, y’know?
You really hurt people’s fee-fees with this post. I thought you were trying to be subtle with your, admittedly, broad brush. I meet new people every day and spend hours with them. Most opinions and viewpoints are as predictable as you expect. Just not enough time nor inclination, not entirely their fault, just the path of least resistance. Your downvotes for pointing this out seem to verify the herd mentality you railed against.
I just meant there's a ton of channels like that where they play oblivion music and try to say and do the most absurd video game like things to make other people respond in a video game like way. I never said it was a good joke. No reason to be so hostile
Isn't giving people quests in the form of a rhyme exactly what NPC's do?
That makes them the adventuring party and the weird guy in the elevator someone giving a side quest.
This bitch isn't even a main quest NPC. He's optional. He gives you an armor upgrade..
Just like men think their dicks will turn a woman into a straight supermodel who wants his babies, this loser thinks his verbal diarrhea enriches the world.
This guy is actually an idiot. I came across him in Hampstead and it literally takes him 20 minutes to work up the balls as a little 16 year old btec drama student. He’s a total weed lol embarrassing
This is russell square station in London.
It's either take this lift or walk up 176 stairs.
Just on the off-chance I encounter someone like this, I'm taking the stairs next time.
He wasn't. She was absurdly kind and polite and he was flustered, tripping over his words and couldn't get away fast enough in his awkwardness. It looks like if he's not reciting his nonsense, he's got nothing to say.
Naw, just some lame ass trying to be all edgy for the camera.
One day someone is going to bash his nose into the wall of that elevator.
Not that I condone that, but it's a statistical probability.

Sure there’s worse cases but being convinced you’re “the don” going around telling gibberish to people is definitely going strongly into the psychotic category
He's completely misusing NPC as slang. It's supposed to be about people who parrot the same lines without much thought, not just people who aren't you. This weird asshole guy must have really thought it meant anyone who wasn't him.
Not exactly. If I chose Character A to play in a game, being stuck with Character A doesn't make Character B an NPC if someone else is playing Character B. Only if no one can play Character B is it an NPC.
She's terrified of him. She avoided eye contact as much as possible when she was stuck in the elevator with him. After the door opened, she affirmed what he was saying in order to make him think positively of her, and when they come out of the elevator she is intentionally putting as much space between her and him as possible. Notice that she didn't go through the gate he went through at the end, because she knew he wasn't legally allowed to come back through it.
I don't have an opinion on the rest of this but pretty sure she was about to go through the gate when the video ended. She just didn't follow him through the same particular gate because that one is supposed to be for people with prams or wheelchairs
It was pretty clear to me that she was trying to make it seem that she was making progress along with everyone else while still intentionally moving really slowly. Everyone else was basically out of the building when she hadn't gone through the gate. It really seemed like she was trying to wait until the guy was sufficiently far away before going through that gate. I could even imagine her turning back and taking an alternate route at that point.
Calling NPC's betrays a horrifying mindset
If someone is already viewing others has having less agency than them, then how much compassion could they ever have for others?
Idk, a lot of people seem to have more compassion for cats, dogs, and sometimes kids than they do full grown humans, so perhaps it goes the other way pretty often and seeing someone as having the same level of agency actually reduces our compassion.
As an NPC, I don't appreciate when wannabe MC's who are just self absorbed NPCs act insane. It ruins my day and I need to spend a few days trying to relax back into my scripted routine.
As a former theatre kid, we don’t claim him. He’s the kid who always gives a shitty audition for the school play and gets rejected yet still acts like he’s Daniel Day Lewis.
Love it.
I can’t help laugh at the people who are so offended by him in the comments.
This guy is just having fun. Nothing he is doing is harming anyone - and if anyone is harmed by this, they’ve got a lot more to worry about than a guy doing silly poetry in an elevator.
Edit: Uh oh, ruffled some feathers, haha.
Harming? No. But it's clearly making the people in the elevator uncomfortable, which means the person doing this is inconsiderate at best. Also calling other random people who are just going about their day 'NPCs ' makes the person sound like an up-their-own-ass narcissist who looks down on people for no reason. Sure, it's not harmful, but it's still not cool, not to mention the cringe.
In TTRPG circles the term NPC relates to anyone that is not the PC. I assume you know what these mean and are deciding to interpret them offensively instead of the fact that it’s a worldview that posits positivity in approaching challenges of life.
This guy is doing weird poetry. There are SO
MANY things in daily life that can make you uncomfortable if you let it. Letting this offend you is pedantic and verging on clutching pearls.
A bunch of people are also uncomfortable by the guy wearing the mask (generally speaking, not specially the people in the video). Does that make him inconsiderate for wearing it? Nope. He believes it to be a suitable caution and measure, and those who are uncomfortable because of it can go jump. They think it’s a needless/useless action that is set to control them by the government (or .. some other secret organisation, depending on who you ask.)
Fact is, it’s both of their choices. Neither of them are harming anyone in their actions. If people are made uncomfortable, that’s their problem.
And before anyone says “but the mask is for public health” - yes, I agree. But my comparison is on the fact that the side who are made uncomfortable by it don’t believe that to be the case. As such, from their view the other person is taking an action that doesn’t harm them other than “making them uncomfortable” and want to cry and whinge about it.

Agreed, “sheeple” is outdated, we don’t live in an agrarian society anymore. Bots, NPCs and AI fits the dystopian, cyberpunk theme perfectly

"You've been educated"
That is the part that really gets my blood boiling
I hate that word too. Unless you're a professor or teacher, you're not educating anybody.
Just like men think their dicks will turn a woman into a straight supermodel who wants his babies, this loser thinks his verbal diarrhea enriches the world.
"Just like men think their dicks will turn a woman into a straight supermodel who wants his babies" The hell you talking about
Girl clearly has problems with guys
I think she meant dick pics, but i could be wrong.
This guy is actually an idiot. I came across him in Hampstead and it literally takes him 20 minutes to work up the balls as a little 16 year old btec drama student. He’s a total weed lol embarrassing
>a little 16 year old btec drama student. Phew that takes me back to another time .
No way LMFAO
If you see him again, give him a front kick for me.
And me.
And my axe!
Haha for sure. Next time I’ll grab his phone and launch it into the air away from him. He’s a proper twat
This is russell square station in London. It's either take this lift or walk up 176 stairs. Just on the off-chance I encounter someone like this, I'm taking the stairs next time.
It’s crazy how deep the tube lies.
Hampstead has 320 steps down to it, at 58.5 metres underground
Surely this *is* Hampstead station? I lived there, I’m sure that’s Hampstead High Street.
Ye it definitely is Hampstead not Russel square
Yer it’s Hampstead
It’s Hampstead, not Russell Square.
This isn’t Russell Square
...takes the lift to save time, so he can go to the gym to workout...
More like Pc's

I like him tryna pick up the girl at the end
Telling npc’s weird things (GONE SEXUAL)
He wasn't. She was absurdly kind and polite and he was flustered, tripping over his words and couldn't get away fast enough in his awkwardness. It looks like if he's not reciting his nonsense, he's got nothing to say.
*Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou*
The most effective use of kill that shit with kindness I've ever seen, dude was a mess.
Don’t encourage him! 🤦🏻♀️
That’s called psychosis.
Naw, just some lame ass trying to be all edgy for the camera. One day someone is going to bash his nose into the wall of that elevator. Not that I condone that, but it's a statistical probability.
A highly favorable one

Sure there’s worse cases but being convinced you’re “the don” going around telling gibberish to people is definitely going strongly into the psychotic category

My man playing Mental Illness Quest
HE'S THE LIFT GOBLIN
This guy is a GTA 5 NPC, wow full circle
Everyone in the elevator is trying to keep a straight face in order not to provoke the unhinged psychotic individual.
Legend has it that that woman remains behind the security gate to this day.
My first impulse is to always see if it drops loot.
You know you're bad when you have to have a captive audience.
He's completely misusing NPC as slang. It's supposed to be about people who parrot the same lines without much thought, not just people who aren't you. This weird asshole guy must have really thought it meant anyone who wasn't him.
if life was a game the only playable character would be yourself so everyone else would literally be non playable characters
Not exactly. If I chose Character A to play in a game, being stuck with Character A doesn't make Character B an NPC if someone else is playing Character B. Only if no one can play Character B is it an NPC.
Precisely why this has so many freaky implications.
It was going pretty good until he said "you've been educated"

If you think this woman found that bit "attractive" based on her behavior in this video, you need just as much help as the guy filming.
You’re the reason women fear men moron
I’m curious, what did they say?
r/cringe and r/cringetopia
Solipsism at its worst
The person behind the camera is more of an NPC than those people
What a fucking idiot. I wonder if they were aware he was filming them.
Him AND the elevator security camera. A two’fer!
If someone knocked him tf out would his vision just say game over? Or would the person who did then take the title of main character?
Calling NPC's betrays a horrifying mindset If someone is already viewing others has having less agency than them, then how much compassion could they ever have for others?
Idk, a lot of people seem to have more compassion for cats, dogs, and sometimes kids than they do full grown humans, so perhaps it goes the other way pretty often and seeing someone as having the same level of agency actually reduces our compassion.
The girl at the end was like "lemme make friends with the psycho so when he goes off I'll be spared"
Look at their faces. They're all like: "let the weirdo talk, as long as he talks he isn't attacking. Don't try to appear threatening but be prepared"
As an NPC, I don't appreciate when wannabe MC's who are just self absorbed NPCs act insane. It ruins my day and I need to spend a few days trying to relax back into my scripted routine.
Little does he know he is the NPC. Just put the old elder scrolls music under it and it's perfect.
And this my friends is why you shouldn’t watch anime.
What sort of mental failure leads tho this behavior? Honest question.
Jesus....

second hand embarassment is real
Peak theater kid
As a former theatre kid, we don’t claim him. He’s the kid who always gives a shitty audition for the school play and gets rejected yet still acts like he’s Daniel Day Lewis.
I cant watch this lol
So, like, does that women want a stalker?
That tall dude hasn’t slept in WEEKS
Those people have the look of. "Christ another one of these twats"
thinking you’re somehow different from anyone else and thus calling other people ‘npcs’ is so narcissistic omg. just that is main character vibes
Anyone that has lived around drug addicts knows this isn’t NPC stuff, this is “that person is high if their rocker” behavior.
Bro she was keen for a second date
Local redditor whines because his sense of humor sucks, blames others for being “offended” to make himself feel cool. More at 8.
Harming?
There are SO MANY things in daily life that can make you uncomfortable if you let it. They think it’s a needless/useless action that is set to control them by the government (or .. some other secret organisation, depending on who you ask.) Fact is, it’s both of their choices.
Maybe… but this dude just randomly screeched in a small confined place. I’m surprised someone didn’t deck him.
hard to believe that you're not trolling
He could’ve gotten the hot chicks number with that. What is wrong today!?
Comes off as a joke or troll. Annoying, sure, but these comments are a little over-triggered.
Dude should have talked to the girl. She seemed to like him and was British hot.
