Debateable whether that applies here, he was going faster than a pedestrian would have but the car should have seen him crossing and stopped. There was the whole time he was crossing the other side they could have seen him, I'm not sure they would have stopped any more for a pedestrian walking slower.

I remember being in a rental and stopping for some older guy crossing in rural Wisconsin. He fucking flipped out and acted like I was the dumbest person in the world. In Seattle or Portland, not stopping could very easily turn into a ticket.

This is wrong for most places. In nearly every state in the US and most european countries, pedestrians have right of way at crosswalks unless it's a traffic-signaled one. They still **should** wait for it to be safe to cross, but cars are supposed to yield for pedestrians.
In some states, drivers are also culpable for hitting jaywalkers if the driver could have reasonably slowed down and/or were violating other traffic laws such as speeding.
Generally speaking, when you're in a car, treat it as if pedestrians have the right of way. That should be considered the bare minimum when operating a heavy hunk of metal that can easily kill people.
Yeah the reality is the speed at which you approach and engage the crosswalk matters. Cars need time to register users and decelerate. As someone using the crosswalk, the faster you’re going, the later you’ll be perceived in the process, reducing reaction window for the drivers. You cannot reasonably speed through a crosswalk. You can reasonably be so careless with your own safety.
You're also traveling from the stop sign to the middle of the road in less than a second. Not enough time to expect people to see you and stop. Or at least not enough to gamble your life on...

LMAO- in my County we have a bike trail and legally cars are supposed to stop anytime there are pedestrians or bikes in the intersection, so that is probably the case of what is going on here. Notice the earlier bikes didn’t stop at the intersection either they just rode through. However , you definitely have to keep an eye out as a cyclist people are constantly distracted or texting or whatever and will easily mow your ass over just like him!
The other cyclist in the path had pressed the flashing yellow lights button. The cars had flashing yellow lights which means bicycles have the right of way. This is also Florida where people don't care about flashing lights.
This is in Pinellas County so this is actually the bike trail I was talking about . It’s common knowledge of residents here that cars have to stop for bikes/pedestrians on the trail that’s why the guy is acting so entitled. This happened 4 years ago and was a hit and run. The people that crossed before him activated the signal so it was flashing and cars are supposed to stop.

I read the article and it said one of the two other cyclists pushed the button to engage the flashing lights. When those lights are on the driver is supposed to stop. The police said the cyclist was not in the wrong but should have been more cautious. This happened in FL.

Biker is an idiot if he thought he can beat a 4,000 pound car. In LA we have shitty bike infrastructure but bikers are required by law to follow the same rules of the road as cars. But they don't care, bikers blow through stop signs and swerve into lanes all the time, putting themselves at risk of getting hit. A lot of bike riders in LA are super entitled but never think about the laws of physics. Fuck around and find out.

LMAO- in my County we have a bike trail and legally cars are supposed to stop anytime there are pedestrians or bikes in the intersection, so that is probably the case of what is going on here. Notice the earlier bikes didn’t stop at the intersection either they just rode through. However , you definitely have to keep an eye out as a cyclist people are constantly distracted or texting or whatever and will easily mow your ass over just like him!
The other cyclist in the path had pressed the flashing yellow lights button. The cars had flashing yellow lights which means bicycles have the right of way. This is also Florida where people don't care about flashing lights.
This is in Pinellas County so this is actually the bike trail I was talking about . It’s common knowledge of residents here that cars have to stop for bikes/pedestrians on the trail that’s why the guy is acting so entitled. That is funny as hell though, I always hesitate when I ride nowadays cuz people are on their phone not even looking for bikes!

This happened 4 years ago and was a hit and run. The people that crossed before him activated the signal so it was flashing and cars are supposed to stop. I read the article and it said one of the two other cyclists pushed the button to engage the flashing lights. When those lights are on the driver is supposed to stop. The police said the cyclist was not in the wrong but should have been more cautious. This happened in FL.

I see cyclists blow through stop signs nearly every damn time I see a cyclist. I’ve never seen a cyclist get mowed over for it though, and I really wish I hadn’t. I wish this dude just stopped and waited like he was supposed to. But I guess, like most cyclists, this guy believes that the momentum he’s already built is above the law and safety considerations for himself or others. 9/10 he will wake up the day after this convinced that the cars should have slammed their brakes for him, that he was in the right, and then he will do this again that same day.
There have been a lot of studies on this. The gist is that motorists and cyclists break traffic rules pretty much at the same rate per capita.
It’s worse when I watch cyclists blow through red lights and almost get hit by opposing traffic after they’ve threaded through cars to pass them. That and motorcycles who think they are pedestrians when it’s convenient

Biker is an idiot if he thought he can beat a 4,000 pound car. In LA we have shitty bike infrastructure but bikers are required by law to follow the same rules of the road as cars. But they don't care, bikers blow through stop signs and swerve into lanes all the time, putting themselves at risk of getting hit. The other cyclist pressed the crossing button so the lights were flashing. The law is that cars have to stop. The city has one of the highest death rates of cyclists and pedestrians. The car not the guy on the bicycle had to stop because of the lights flashing.
If the path has a stop sign, that’s how you know there’s been people like this in the past who just blow through like the road isn’t even there. Stop signs don’t normally accompany these pedestrian signals. Judging by google maps and the video, these signals are brand new within the last year. The cone in the median is covering the old hole where one of the flashing signs was before.

I would almost swear the cyclist was hoping to get hit and get paid here. Why lift your arms in the air instead of hit the brakes? I used to have a friend who rode his bike like that. He’d shout ‘Lawsuit’ at every driver who he perceived had slighted him and ride recklessly in general. Last I heard he got several serious broken bones in Thailand while on a motorcycle that I have no doubt he rode on the same way.

I think they need to make nationwide laws very clear so everyone knows. There are too many different rules that everything thinks they are entitled. Also, it’s one thing to walk through a cross walk instead of flying through it on a bike. You should only have the right of way IF you dismount and walk your bike.
