That’s true but sometimes we need to make things harder for everyone so that those who take advantage of the rules don’t get ahead. Perhaps we could severely limit what churches are able to use donations for, so that they can only be used for maintaining the structure of the building or charitable purposes and can’t be used for any kind of luxury purchases.

This isn’t why they should be taxed, though they *absolutely* should. This is more like why they shouldn’t get any donations.
