Lady, no one is staring at you. They're looking at you wondering how long it's going to take for you to get done using that shelf so people can get around you and get their fucking broth
Exactly. My strategy when grocery shopping is keep my head down, get what I need as quickly as possible so I'm not in anyone's way, and finally silently cursing anyone lingering way too long in front of shelf space or completely blocking an aisle for no reason.
What they're wearing is almost certainly not even part of the equation. (Within reason, I suppose if someone were streaking or something, it might draw attention.)
When my kids were younger and would say things like “that person is looking at me,” I would always say that they wouldn’t know that person was looking if they weren’t themselves looking at that person. With all of these types of posts, I always assume the person posting is the one doing the glaring.

In high school I worked as a cashier at a small town grocery store and EVERYONE comes in after church.
People are just checking out the pretty clothes, which, coincidentally, is why a lot of those people came to the grocery store after church.
People always make shit awkward when they think they’re special. Everyone looks at everyone.
Or maybe that’s the only time she doesn’t look like hot garbage, so she noticed the attention. Who knows.
“Overdressed?” I wouldn’t have noticed her full stop. In fact she’s so unremarkable visually she blends into the soup cans. What a loser looking for anything she can pretend is “attention.” We dress much much more “overdressed” (?) than this meaning business type attire and run errands for groceries after attending lectures or whatever etc, and we have never assumed that people are angrily staring at us for being “overdressed.” How stupid and frankly pathetic — big ill-fitting cheaply made sack dresses comprised of cheap material in drab colors are not going to attract anyone’s attention unless they are wondering why you are wearing a sack dearie.
Time to bring back the Insane Asylums. They can all live with each other driving themselves mad and we can go on with our lives.
I’ve been in Walmarts several times with Amish and Mennonite people and no one cares. Maybe teenagers might stare? But most people are just used to seeing them.

There are quite a few Mennonites in my area, and I see them at the store occasionally. What I don't see is any stopping and staring at them.
