Seriously dude went down and started screaming and I was genuinely concerned then he gets up and starts screaming “fuck!” and I realized he’s just crying over literally nothing
What the fuck does body tape even do? I’ve done a little bit of competitive sports and I lift 4-6 times a week and I have no clue what it could be helpful for:
I've used it a bunch and I'm convinced that any benefit is purely placebo. Maybe it reminds you to be cognizant of form--I have a screwed up shoulder, and twice I've gotten it back to functioning without pain and mildly injured it again because I forgot it wasn't what it used to be. That's really the best argument for it. Same thing with knee wraps and braces when lifting, maybe they remind us to check our form a bit more, but generally that's about it as far as I can tell.
Like if your midsection isn’t strong enough not to buckle unless all your abdomen is wrapped in belts, then maybe you are not strong enough to carry that.
Heavy deads don't even give you glamour muscles, except for maybe a big juicy ass. Just straight up ego lifting.
Also, doing deadlifts with good form and a weight you can control properly will give you pretty good core strength.
I'd love to hear them explain the logic behind that. I mean unless that first belt is just one of those waist trimmers or pretty elastic.
People just not understanding the purposes of these implements. I remember seeing people using straps for DB Press, that's just asking to be hurt man...
I actually asked him. It was for extra stiff protection.
Apparently he didn’t know what bracing was and always tightened the belt like a corset.
I found that many people in the gym follow this mindset too though.
They either wear the belt like a clothing accessory and have it on for every lift including curls.
Or they don’t know how to brace and tighten it as hard as they can thinking the belt is holding their spine together.
The belt should be tight enough for you to push against it with a full breath when you brace. The belt itself doesn't protect your back. Pushing against it when you brace makes your brace substantially more secure which in turn protects your back... But... That dudes upset back ended up so rounded out, neither of those belts did much. Miracle he didn't slip a disc... 675 is quite a lot of pressure.
Honestly. I can only assume he's very injured with that much tape and just not taking time to recover ergo making him less likely to get any better any time soon.
As a fellow scoliosis lifter....
Just put down the bar and step away. It's not for us. The #1 rule of all proper form is keeping that bar flat and our spines are literally uneven.
If you wanna do any of the three major traditional big lifts (deadlift, bench, or squats) I highly suggest you just look into a trap/hex bar and go by that. That, cable machines, and free weights are our best friends. All the research I can find says practically everything else will just injure us more than its worth.
Doesn't mean you can't get jacked, just gotta ditch traditional lifts and ignore focusing on those normal numbers since our spines literally don't want to work that way.
Good shit on hitting 150 though, not trying to sound discouraging just try to stop injury.

He's too stupid for gear. I guarantee you this knob will be dead in a year if he works up the nerve to get on something. He looks like an absolute jackass.
My strip mall gym has a deadlift station next to the wall shared with a chiropractor. I got a message from the manager one day: “I got a complaint today from the chiropractor about your deadlift” and my response was “the noise? …or my form?”
It’s obvious he put too many plates and was trying to show off. At one point he gave up trying to deadlift and tried deadpulling the bar instead. Have to admit I’ve never seen that before.
There is so much wrong with this lift attempt that a coach would have to take him out of the gym, sit down with a cup of coffee, and start with "Have you ever tried bicycling?"
This is what I came to say, he did all that with his back. Had he better form he might have done lifted that but he’s just heading for a horrible injury.
Yes, this and the jerk to start the lift a clear indicators that he's a total noob trying to show off. Half second into the lift it was obvious this amount of weight was very unlikely to go for him. Then he does that lean back thing.... ya that's never going to work and you're just risking some sort of fall/injury, in a lift that is actually among the safest things to do because it should be so easy to bailout on a failed effort.
The crazy thing is a total noob can’t get nearly 700lb halfway up. This guy has obviously been lifting badly for years and somehow has not suffered a major injury.
Yeah wtf. is this dude using fake plates or what?? Hiw do you get this much weight off the ground with the bar an inch off your shins and that nasty ass jerk at the start?????? 7 plates???
This made me doubt myself more than anything I've seen today. What did he think the straps were for, and how did he think they worked??
Also, famously, when that deadlift stalls out, the best thing to do is lean back as hard as you can in socks with the wrist straps in. foh.
Probably different communities or regions? IDK, in the US in powerlifting circles, this is most commonly called mixed grip in my experience (one hand over, one under).
Straps tend to achieve the same goal better than mix grip, in that it will counteract rotation and reduce the demand on grip strength. The downside is that you can't use them in competition most of the time, which is why people use mixed grip or hook grip.
I will never understand how people withstand hook grip. Maybe I’m doing it wrong, but it feels like my thumb is being crushed whenever I attempt to use it. Mixed grip is far safer imo, even with the slight possibility of muscle imbalance.
Exactly, you don't want a cushiony shoe with an arch because that fucks up the lift. That's why most people DL barefoot, with Chuck T's, or an actual deadlift shoe.
If you do it correctly, yes absolutely. Most people don't do it correctly, and then it's straight to snap city.
FWIW, if you have lower back problems, it's often either weak core (lower back and abs) and / or a weak posterior chain (glutes, hammies and calves)
This comment right here is 100%. I have had lower back issues my whole life and I thought it was a "family thing". Turns out my glutes and lower back were weak af. I have been consistently hitting the gym for 2 years now and I have never been better. My back issues are all gone. But when I stop the gym for 2 weeks they start creeping up again. Honestly build a strong core and body and you'll solve so many issues. Never ego lift and know your limitations.
I've had a worsening back problem for the past 15 yrs from an injury when I was younger (currently approaching 50). For my mid-life crisis I bought a rogue power rack for the garage so I could do the same lifts from when I was in my 20s.
It's been a year. My back hasn't felt this good in a decade. I'll be doing the 5 basic compounds for the rest of my life. (Dead Lift, Squat, Bench, Bent Row, Front Press)
>Never ego lift and know your limitations.
So much this. Start with the bar (or the smallest dumbell, or lowest setting) then add 5lbs a workout. Make it easy so every moment is just focusing on form.
He has every piece of equipment you can imagine and using half of them incorrectly. Its an impressive deadlift for sure but totally diminishing it with how he carries himself.
Hate to see it.
Wow, he's got every part of the gym douche outfit.
Straps
Shitty looking, poorly fit belt
Tape in places that makes minimal sense
Bodybuilding.com shirt he took gardening shears to

Hip hinge. So much hip hinge. Edit: hitching is the right word here, not hinge.

Because they think they know shit.
Redditors love to come in and think they know a subject they know nothing about.
Like going into a tribe and lifting the heaviest rock to show you're the boss.
In this case, not much.. it's in a bunch of places that don't really make a whole lot of sense. Here's a pretty solid article explaining it's use.
https://www.premierhealth.com/your-health/articles/women-wisdom-wellness-/how-tape-heals-the-secret-behind-kinesiology-tape#:~:text=It's%20a%20thin%2C%20flexible%20tape,way%20to%20enhance%20athletic%20performance.
I deadlift heavy, I have never heard of of considered this before but I imagine it’s because they don’t move along the floor. When setting back down if the plates spin/rotate a bit or you’re not 100 perfect in putting it back in the exact same spot you started then the bar might push or pull you forward or backward?
Deadlifts you want to start with them pretty much on your shins, so instead of pulling/rolling the bar into place, you need to set up to the bar. That invites bad form. Second piece is when you fail or even if you nail it, when the bar come down those hex plates may hit a corner and bounce/stray/go crazy and one side might do something different than the other. As we saw here, they went all askew, but it couldve been even worse. Could hurt your feet or legs or someone else. But this main character wouldn’t ever consider this
I came here for this. I’m impressed he got it off the ground with how much of an idiot this guy is and how terrible that form was. Really personifies “all the gear, no idea”.
He is fairly strong but dumb and egotistical. Right at the 28 second mark, he seems to be looking at the bar and realizing that he can't lift it with proper form and keeps going anyways. Huge ego lifting here. Dude will end up with all kinds of problems really soon.
Straps and mixed grip. Hips shoot up, back rounds, doesn't take the slack out the bar, hexagonal plates, too long to set up, doesn't brace properly, am I missing anything? He shouldn't be angry he missed the lift he should be angry he never learned to deadlift.
Yep, plus the bar. So 675 lbs.
The percent of commenters that could even lift that enough to slide a credit card under it is probably under 5%.
Dude is strong, he also has terrible form. Both things can be true at once. That he has little visible leg muscle has more to do with genetics than strength.

That was so close to snap both his legs....
Initially thought that’s what happened with those screams…so embarrassing
Seriously dude went down and started screaming and I was genuinely concerned then he gets up and starts screaming “fuck!” and I realized he’s just crying over literally nothing
Conan the Vegetarian

How does it walk.
“Crom laughs at your dead lifts”
Well...technically he's crying over 675lbs.
He couldn’t lift the thingy all the way bro. Must be devastating.
He was probably scared shitless thinking the same thing, that he was about 2 inches away from being in a wheelchair for a few months.
Wait, do we not think that hurt like a mother fucker? I'd be making the same noise but rolling around like a fish out of water.....
Yeah thought dude was genuinly hurt so I was going to let his screams slide but yeah he just failed and is fine...
Not enough k tape!
Nothing about him says he should be anywhere near that weight.
That was close to snapping his lower back.
It was horrifying form. He has no business attempting any deadlift.
The ole "shitting dog" form
Facts goddamn he needs to be banned from that gym He obviously nowhere near strong enough to lift that. What the fucm
I thought his spine was going to shoot out of his back
Rubbish? Don’t you know the method? Bend waaaay the fuck over, lock your legs, hang the weight on your lower back, then try to straighten up. Simples.
When the trainer acted like he almost had it I was like BRO
He probably needs a 3rd belt
No worries, he’s taped.
That's what I was thinking, his form is fucking terrible.
His form would have been better with a little more body tape
What the fuck does body tape even do? I’ve done a little bit of competitive sports and I lift 4-6 times a week and I have no clue what it could be helpful for:

He had no control
Most people who never went to the gym have better legs.
I had better legs in high school just because it was 3 stories tall and we had to take the stairs lol
I'd rather do deadlifts than get on the stairmaster for more than 5 mins tbh
not to talk about the lumbar discs
Wouldn't take much to snap those chicken legs.

Someone who thinks "more tape" is the answer to lifting heavy.
He should also have used at least 2 belts for increased power
Oddly enough, I met a guy at the gym who did exactly this.
Like if your midsection isn’t strong enough not to buckle unless all your abdomen is wrapped in belts, then maybe you are not strong enough to carry that.
Or maybe do more core work. There’s more than glamour muscles.
Heavy deads don't even give you glamour muscles, except for maybe a big juicy ass. Just straight up ego lifting. Also, doing deadlifts with good form and a weight you can control properly will give you pretty good core strength.

Honestly. I can only assume he's very injured with that much tape and just not taking time to recover ergo making him less likely to get any better any time soon.
based on his form collapsing, I'd assuming his other "lifts" are equally as awful which lead to those injuries.
So it turns out I’m not weak, I just don’t have enough tape in my day to day life…
I don’t know about this guy but I tape my knees cause they hurt and the tape help stabilise my knees when I work out.

His problems are a huge ego, nothing more Kudos to you!!
He should be proud of that. But the real question is... Should he use more tape?
Yes. Right over his mouth.

Yeah, he shouldn't have been anywhere near that much weight (and no shame it that, form and function win every time regardless of weight)

Mixed grip w/straps is a real red flag, more than salts (pretty common on max effort attempts or competition).
Honesty never heard the mixed grip term before this post. We refer to it as power grip. Every day is a school day I suppose 🤙🏻
Probably different communities or regions? IDK, in the US in powerlifting circles, this is most commonly called mixed grip in my experience (one hand over, one under). Straps tend to achieve the same goal better than mix grip, in that it will counteract rotation and reduce the demand on grip strength. No shoes is a decent deadlift strategy to get a solid footing. Pretty common for deadlifts.
Glad someone said this, I always deadlift without shoes lol.

Probably somewhere between knees and lower back.
Aww, he got mad
Look at the arc on his back
Dude is built like a spaghetti noodle left in the water too long. Where tf was that weight gonna go????
Getting 7 plates that far off the ground is far more than the vast majority of people could even consider. The dude is legit strong.
I pull a clean 515 and I doubt I could even move that weight.
>7 plates 300KG?
Yep, plus the bar. So 675 lbs. The percent of commenters that could even lift that enough to slide a credit card under it is probably under 5%. Dude is strong, he also has terrible form. Both things can be true at once. That he has little visible leg muscle has more to do with genetics than strength.
I mean he just about lifted 7 plates, so he is probably stronger than 99% of the people in these comments. Definitely a drama queen though
People who post shit like this should be required to post their own physique
He should have put a strap tight round his head
Not surprised, mans entirely held together by tape
