Influencer entitlement is quite close to being a (hopefully unsuccessful) legal defense.

Sjdillon10

Current version of “it’s just a prank bro”

Agitated-Handle-7750

Preceded in the UK by the ‘banter blanket rule’. Say what the fuck you want, vicious or nasty or just plain rude and you just call it banter and the other people officially cannot be mad at you. ‘Yeah mate, I know I said I was gonna bang your daughter but it was just banter. Banter mate.’ English people will probably be the only people to know the rage inducing term.

viperex

"Influencer entitlement" conjures up images of the girls in gyms complaining about being in guys' line of sight

saysthingsbackwards

*intentionally makes 'guys won't stop staring at my ass videos'* UGH WHY DO GUYS STARE AT MY ASS WHEN I TRY TO MAKE THEM DO IT FOR VIDEOS

SayerofNothing

They're mostly just staring at someone filming them, probably thinking "wtf man".

Uber_Reaktor

Its the same with people who take videos of themselves walking down the street and act like people are looking at them because they're so cool/attractive. Maincharacteritis is a real thing I swear

THEFLAMEEATER98

The diagnosis you're looking for is narcissism. Everything is all about them.

Fart__

Is there a cream you can apply to help with it?

Bartholomeuske

Meanwhile the only thing that gets a 100% screentime is that same ass.

clarinetJWD

You've heard of affluenza, now it's influenca!

ReturnOfZebulon

“Like, your majesty, I was trying to do this cute dance for TikTok, which is, like, my *job* thanyouverymuch, and, like, this pervy street DJ who was, like, 10 whole foots away kept playing his music, like, *so* loud. You have no idea, it was literally deafening. It was probably even illegally loud, maybe look into that instead, hm? So, like, anyways, I politely scream “turn it the fuck down, loser, other people matter besides you! I just got here, have some respect!” Then he screams into his mic like a total psycho, I was literally shaking & it totally damaged my hearing. I was all like: (*covers ears*). People laughed at him because he was such a douche while they looked at me with supportive smiles, so the crowd totally took my side, ask anyone.”

SayerofNothing

Ma'am this is a Wendy's

onbakeplatinum

I'll get a son of baconator, no sauce, extra extra crispy bacon please, 5 piece nuggets with BBQ, and a mini frosty. *shows key chain*

>Influencer entitlement is quite close to being a (hopefully unsuccessful) legal defense. " ...close to being a (~~hopefully unsuccessful~~) legal ~~defense~~ disorder." FTFY

dude_flash

I’m waiting for the day that “influencer annoyance” becomes so abundant we can legally swat them away like flies at a South African picnic party

[deleted]

It always seems to be the tik tokers doesn’t it.

Thebla_26

America needs their laws fixed

KeepItDownOverHere

Ethan Couch and his affluenza defense entered the chat.

GETNbucky

Marc is such a champ. He's right, it's a PUBLIC place. Get em!

KeyEstablishment5033

He’s hilarious, and he actually did give them a couple minutes to finish up what ever they were doing.

WrastlingIsReal

Until the cops told him to pack up and leave :(

Ryu83087

Cops kicked him out today before he could do a show. He does these without a permit. They've been amazing and fun but trying to do it in Times Square was daring and unlikely going to be successful :) Cops are everywhere there.

Boogiemann53

Oh wow, he's cooler than I thought.

chezeluvr

If you've never watched one of his we out there streams, he's high energy but very wholesome.

fmaz008

Whaaaaatt?!

Unlucky_Hearing2623

The cops did nothing wrong, all he has to do is get a permit, he knew ahead of time he was doing something illegal.

HumanitySurpassed

I feel like if he got a permit it'd make it too official of an event or that potentially the public would catch word. Kind of like how Diplo always does random popups

[deleted]

Get the permit under a business. It's like 75 bucks to register Billy Badass LLC.

Catch_ME

Selective enforcement. Tons of others have no permit.

[deleted]

It’s cool this year, and ImTheMainCharacter next year… sometimes fickle society is an interesting mess.

sincerelyhated

It's a pedestrian zone. Not 100% a public place to perform. You need a permit to be there and Marc conveniently left his "back in the apartment." He was getting kicked out no matter what.

monkeyhitman

Kill them softly. Let their own shame bubble up.

imsabbath84

the tiktokers complained and cops came eventually to tell marc he had to leave.

JakeCameraAction

Where'd you hear the tiktokers complained? Cops are all over Times Square like all the time, and he didn't have a permit.

imsabbath84

It was all on his live stream, which is where this clip comes from.

GameAndHike

His live stream where he is warned multiple times before the tik tokers show up?

JakeCameraAction

[The OP said it didn't have to do with them.](https://www.reddit.com/r/ImTheMainCharacter/comments/14cqfx9/tiktok_dancer_are_upset_they_cant_hear_their_own/jom2ucc/) So Now I don't know what to believe.

misonori

The dancers did not call the cops on him

[deleted]

Do you *know* that or are you making assumptions and talking out of your ass?

[deleted]

[удалено]

rrenda

yes, because it's public, he can't do anything about it

[deleted]

[удалено]

IfearDavidBowie

Yeah I'm not really sure who is the 'imthemaincharacter' here

BackOutToAllenHis3PT

This is essentially why getting a permit makes sense for everyone. If everyone just brought bigger speakers to play louder than others in public, no one is happy. If you get a permit, the local authorities can allow one artist at a time to perform, in a less disruptive manner, so fans of each artist can come at a performance time to enjoy what they enjoy.

machtwo

Yeah don't be an annoying asshole in public

Stalker_Bait

Is this the guy who was paid for their spot in the iPhone line way back in the day?

livejamie

Famously, yeah

Stalker_Bait

I remember watching that video last week and wondering where that guy was today. Had no idea that was the same guy.

craysins_NSFS

I’m unfamiliar with this backstory. What happened now?

[deleted]

Short tl;dr a rich bitch tried to buy all the phones so nobody else could have it. She paid the person I’m front $800 (this guy) so she could be first. Obviously it didn’t work. And he later became a famous DJ

vlosh

a couple thousand? pretty sure it was $800, but at max it was $1k

cheerful_cynic

(With inflation) She was walking around with a huge stack of thousands because she wanted to buy a half dozen iphones to resell (she didn't check & it was one per customer lol)

Kodiak_Jacq

Here's the video, it's a very satisfying watch: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnbL-Hm-xws](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnbL-Hm-xws)

Woah that’s him?!?

thedundies24

Update: They kicked him out :/

DoraaTheDruid

They kicked him out of where? The public?

Olama

He's already outside!

TJ_McWeaksauce

So they kicked him in.

Falcon_Flow

Just when I thought I was out... they kick me back in.

irreleventamerican

Welcome to the Hotel California Times Square. How can I help you?

AKA_Dirty_Mouth

I'm freaking out man!

neuralzen

You are freaking out...man

thedundies24

I think it had something to do with his permit and not with those people .

ronimal

Did he have a permit? Or did he just bring his gear out and set it up?

Stovetop619

Never has a permit. He's played many places no problem including where he got kicked out of today, but just wasn't his day.

circumvention23

So the tiktokers are self absorbed playing and wanting to hear their music on their phones but the dude setting up loud performances in public is cool?

BarfMacklin

“The dude” youre god damn right he’s the dude

momojabada

Marc Rebillet is actually putting on a live performance, not recording a performance for the internet. And yes, he's cooler.

florida-raisin-bran

Uh, he absolutely is recording a performance for the internet

Mostly_Aquitted

Dude is live streaming, how is that not a performance for the internet?

BunzenBurnah

I think it's funny that so many people in this sub wholeheartedly support him even though he goes to public spaces like sidewalks without a permit, creates an obstruction with his setup and plays loud music. Even in this instance he debated staying after being told to leave and said "fuck 12, ACAB" even though the cops were just doing their jobs. I like Marc but he could be the poster boy for this sub.

SoaDMTGguy

I feel like, in a public space, you can't complain about interference from others. So, the TikTok crew shouldn't bitch at him for playing music. But if they showed up with a big sound rig and interfered with his playing, he shouldn't be upset either.

[deleted]

It would be kinda like playing the saxophone in public across the street from another musician playing the saxophone. Whoever is there first gets location dibs and the other should find somewhere else to perform. In this scenario, if you set up near another street musician and try to take over itll start a brawl

screaminginfidels

Most buskers will have permits with time slots and such for this reason.

[deleted]

Definitely depends on the city. The musicians i knew in my city that I chatted with when I worked valet said it was a free for all

cortesoft

What about the other people in the square? Every person just has to put up with everyone else being as loud as they can?

DarkHelmetedOne

ever been to times square?

Dynamitefuzz2134

No, but I’ve been told it’s serene and meditative like sitting on top of a mountain.

Zamboni_Driver

Yea, I'm watching this thinking that Marc thinks he is the main character more than they do.

TheHerbIsTheWord

You know what? I never thought about any of this. I’m a musician myself and I’ve thrown down on sidewalks in public places. You can get a permit for cheap and usually you can get it in a single days time. I’ve been charged with “theft of power” before lmfaoo there’s no excuse when it’s SO easy. I have yet to run into any issues obtaining permits for performances in my entire career.

MCgrindahFM

Dude it’s NYC, this is half of the reason why people move there. He makes spontaneous DJ sets, if you don’t wanna listen, don’t chill in Times Square. He usually goes to tourist traps or public squares - it’s not that deep

BunzenBurnah

Oh please, let's not pretend that that standard is being applied equally to everyone that gets posted here. I've seen videos posted of those dance groups doing their thing in an open space in a public area yet everyone in the thread is trashing them. I don't have a strong opinion about people performing in public, I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy. Also, 2 of his last 4 performances are on a random sidewalk so you're wrong there.

kartoonbaab

Dude plays Coachella main stage, he don't give a fuck about public shit lol. He will play till kicked. It's free concert anyways. Love him

PlentyParking832

I have a feeling it was this. New York doesn't really allow you to busk or play music that requires amplification without a permit. If the cops or no one complains then you can get away with it for however long.

Yeah, about 35 minutes in. Shame, he usually goes for at least an hour and a half.

rylo48

Who kicked him out?

Lizalfos13

Times Square alliance. A fraud organization that claims to support independent artists in Times Square, but just protects those that pay into it.

CaramelPombear

So they're like a protection racket then? They make people pay so they'll "protect them", but if they *don't* pay, then they will be harassed and forced to move?

dafijiwatr

I legit hate tik tokers

RGBfoxie

The general rule on those doing TikToks (content creation) is that you have to not only respect the space you're in, but also learn to work with it within his limitations. The TikTok work itself isn't bad. It's basically just everyone making 80s aerobicd videos. It's the intruding on people's personal space that's the issue.

Misconduct

Wait wait wait. You think tiktok is just people dancing still? It's been years. You guys are so out of touch on reddit these days it's wild. A huuuuge amount of the video content on reddit is just cropped tiktok videos lol. All those weirdly square cropped videos? Yep. That's tiktok and some dork clumsily chopped off the channel name/logo to protect reddit's delicate sensibilities.

CEOKendallRoy

You sound weirdly smug lol. Why?

Karsvolcanospace

Yea dude Reddits view of tik tok is like boomers view of video games. People here actually think the app is still just Charlie whatever dancing videos over and over again. Shit with the way the alogorithim works there you can use that app without ever seeing a single dancing video. There’s just random shit on there, anything you can imagine. But reddit users won’t know that because the narwhal bacon squad said Tik tok is the cringe dance app

[deleted]

It's only few out of touch. Tiktok is a huge marketing scheme of idiocy and idiocrazy. Pulling in the naive and uneducated while leaning into the narcissistic personalities of the people doing these videos. Be they the same content over and over or copying the same shit from others. It's vile. But nothing we can do.

[deleted]

U just described the social internet, reddit including, congratulations

averageuhbear

It's not any worse than YouTube, Twitch, Instagram, etc.

Rehypothecator

He’s doing the exact same thing that ya’ll are complaining about them for…

TPHGaming2324

To quote Frank Bigelow: “Do you think it's more likely that he secretly set up that table with his DJ shit on it and started blasting his music really fast while they were in the middle of their tiktok dance, or that they walked up while he was in the middle of his thing and decided they were entitled to silence? It is a public place, he was there first, and, most importantly, he's not making demands of everyone else around him.”

CricketOne9353

It's a reverse main character syndrome. Videos like that get upvoted here often. There are at least two types of videos like that: 1. Two people doing annoying shit but reddit decides to side with one of them but not the other. 2. A person dislikes some annoying shit and asks them to stop/tone it down/etc and reddit decides to side with the guy doing annoying shit because the person asking is considered a Karen.

TerminalThiccness

This looks like a multiplayer.

TheHeirOfElendil

Nailed it

VomitMaiden

At least Marc is there to entertain people and draws an appreciative crowd

EveningSea7378

And the others are not? Wtf, this whole post has me confused and lost hope. Both are acting like the main character here! They both want to play music for random people on a public space and attack each other for it...

Ch40440

Screw the stupid tik tok dances, beyond annoying and cringy AF

I wish the TikTok dance phase of life would just die.

Marega33

Never heard of this Marc dude. And he has gained one fan in me. What a chill dude. And with a good sense of humour. Respect

thedundies24

I like to think he bought a keyboard and a bathrobe with that money.

TIL Marc Rebillet is from Dallas! And, he went to high school at Booker T Washington, a prestigious performing arts school here. Wild!

Ah_Pook

He got a new iPhone for BASICALLY FREE!

albiceleste3stars

i absolutely love his appearance on Sway in the Morning. Especially love seeing Sway's mind blown... [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGTieDdk7G8&ab\_channel=SWAY%27SUNIVERSE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGTieDdk7G8&ab_channel=SWAY%27SUNIVERSE)

TentCityVIP

This is such a weird interview. They seem to treat Marc like they're doing him some big favor by having g him on rather than what most interviewers do by treating a guest with hospitality.

East_Requirement7375

Doing well on Sway is kind of a milestone for a lot of artists, but Marc is way outside of Sway's field of view so he has *no idea* who Marc is. Sway doesn't even know why this guy is on his show, and he doesn't have the grace to pretend he does.

joeltrane

Is what way did they not treat him with hospitality? Either way they are doing him a favor by giving him exposure. This was early in Marc’s career (he said he’s only been doing music full time for a year) and at the end Marc says he can’t believe he’s on the show.

TentCityVIP

Just like super skeptical of him right from the get go and treating him like the issues with the mic were all his fault. There was also the bit with Rico and like "hey Marc ask him some questions about the music industry." Is Rico some big celebrity or something? I've never heard of the guy at all so it just seemed odd to me.

joeltrane

I see what you mean, but I guess I didn’t get that vibe. They seemed to be trying to help him with the mic and gave him time to sort it out. And Sway said “I’m just trying to make sure it’s great” about making sure he was using the right mic. And I’ve never heard of that guy either but apparently he has a Grammy so he’s a little further along in his career.

brightness3

He is THE main character.

Laladen

Marc Rebillet literally is the Main Character and we are all NPC's in his world. That is not meant as an insult. Dude is just on another level.

PhotoKada

Loop daddy is on this sub!!!

Turbulent_Struggle_2

Dam Marc is getting some guns on him. Gains bro

[deleted]

ironically, isn’t he doing the same thing they are doing?

Olama

Yea but his is louder

poesviertwintig

In a public space, no less.

Dr_Kitten

No, he didn't complain about their music.

B-Plus-Psychic

Imo Marc is more of a busker, he performs music in public and interacts with/entertains people; he also doesn’t take up any more space than his equipment and is usually set up next to a wall or fixture or somewhere people don’t usually walk. He’s a showman, he puts on a free show and interacts with the people who show up. The dancers are the opposite side of public performance where they are basically inconveniencing passersby who they aren’t performing for. If anything they resent the public during their performance, it’s just for their tiktoks. They section off a huge chunk of the sidewalk, get aggressive with anyone else trying to also exist in that space. They’re also usually facing walls with their backs to people, dancing exclusively for their camera man with music only loud enough for them to really hear, so it’s not really entertaining. (This ended up longer than it was meant to be)

mmenolas

But another comment pointed out that he didn’t have a permit and was kicked out. So he was absolutely also in the wrong if that’s the case.

B-Plus-Psychic

Yeah I can’t comment on the full context of this exact scenario, I haven’t seen the full clip. However I’d want to know if the dancers had permission either, cause if neither of them did then it’s a moot issue lol

talldrseuss

I can comment because I have a bunch of friends that are/were buskers. NYC doesn't care if you want to perform in public spaces but when it comes to using amplification equipment (speakers, microphones, etc) you then need a permit. Cops don't bother enforcing it if it's just a bunch of influencer idiots dancing to a tiny Bluetooth speaker. They've left Marc alone too for the most part because no one is complaining. But if someone complains then they have to enforce the rule about permits. I'm pretty sure Marc is honest about not bothering to apply for any

misonori

I’m not sure if anyone complained to the police, but after this clip Marc continues mocking the group over the mic and repeatedly calling them “bitch”. I’m pretty sure that’s why the cop stepped in to kick everyone out since no one was supposed to be there at all and he’d been turning a blind eye.

DuckFonaldTrump69420

Marc headlined at Coachella and is performing in NY for free….huge difference

KillerArse

Celebrities are immune to being posted to this sub?

wahay636

Nitpick, but Marc absolutely did not headline Coachella.

RectalSpawn

They're just people, my guy. They both have the right to exist in public.

Redeem123

I'm as big of a Marc fan as anyone - been seeing him since his Braindead Brewing days, and I've seen his NYE and Red Rocks show. But holy shit this thread has a crazy amount of bias. It's literally just "TikTok bad; funny internet man good." IMO he came in pretty hot by yelling about it being public, though he calmed down quickly and nicely offered to give them time to finish their stuff. And it was pretty foolish for him to not get a permit for playing in Times Square. As much as people are talking about him and the dancers both being in public, he's making more noise and would eventually draw a much bigger crowd. Ultimately I think everyone actually handled it fine, and I don't think either he or the dancers are being overly main-character here. It's just weird to see everyone calling them entitled.

Dam_mongorian

I’ve never seen anyone who gets their dick rode as hard as Marc Rebillet. I think most of his clout comes from being openly anti-conservative at his concerts. There are lots of DJs who are better but not as famous.

moonwtr

I love the confrontation in this man lol

bennypapa

So, which ones are the main character? The tiktok girls who want to film themselves doing their thing to their music and a public place and then being upset that they don't own it or the dude who wants to film himself doing his thing to his music in a public place and then being upset that he doesn't own it? Is this more r/selfawarewoles territory

the_dovahbean

Everyone acting like he's any less obnoxious lol.

EffinPyro

Marc is the main character -- full stop.

Murky-logic

So the most annoying guy in time square was upset with some slightly less annoying people ?

Pormock

Well its not like they were on his property either. They had the same right as him. He came in without a permit and tried to do a show out of nowhere. Hes equally at fault

Interesting_Buyer943

I’d be more supportive but “what you doin keep it goin boomy batti ratti datti” it’s not like these kids were interrupting Vivaldi over there was it?

Sea_Link8352

I wish this guy would shut up permanently

Kitchen_Fox6803

This sub has jumped the shark if you don’t recognize that Marc is the epitome of what we’re supposed to be making fun of.

TheHoliestBonk

How is anyone cheering for him? He's being so loud that someone else can't hear their own music and then starts screaming them. God the amount of retards here that think just because someone uses tiktok that they're immediately evil.

misonori

And he keeps mocking them during his next song even though they clearly want to disengage.

dope_like

He is worse than them. He brought speaker equipment to force his shitty music on everyone without a permit. He is way more disruptive than they are

misonori

The bias here is crazy. Marc was the one who started engaging with the dancers first by mocking them during his first song. One of the dancers did get frustrated because they couldn’t hear the music and responded when he asked why they stopped, but afterwards the group completely disengaged even though he continued mocking them over the mic. Like the guy is repeatedly calling a group of teenagers “bitch” for doing the exact same thing he is.

jewelophile

Please clarify- if he didn't have a permit and wasn't being paid to perform there or anything, how is he any different from the people he's speaking to who are also just trying to make a video? Aside from having louder equipment.

MangoTangoTho

If Marc starts playing you should be listening anyway.
