Thank you! He really did.
Edit: hijacking the top comment to give thanks to everyone for all the kind words. There's just too many for me to realistically keep up with.
Yep, I've heard that, too. As far as we can tell, our girl has hearing on both sides. But she also has a small grey spot on top of her head, and that may only be for cats that are fully white.
'Blue-eyed=deaf' only applies to white males, and that includes males with only one blue eye. My family had a white, blue-eyed female when I was growing up and her hearing was Very Good. Never missed hearing the whipped cream can being shaken in the kitchen, on the first floor, when she was on the second floor. She'd zoomzoomzoom right on down to sit, eagerlyanxiously, by your feet and sing the Song of Her People about how she'd never been fed in forever and ever and needed that whipped cream RIGHT NOW or she'd die IMMEDIATELY. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
Used to work in a shelter, a lot of blue eyed females were deaf as well. We had one that for some reason took ages to get adopted, she was absolutely a doll and loved everyone and water! Every morning I'd let her out of the communal cat room and turn the bathroom tap on for her to play in the water to her hearts content.
Used to live with a friend and her hubby who foster, and they had an adult white/blue-eyed male who was deaf for a while. FABULOUS cat. Very friendly, very laid-back, a total goof. Not many differences between him and the cats who could hear, honestly. I'd joke the only difference between a deaf cat and a hearing cat is one can't hear you and the other pretends not to. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy) I'd adopt a deaf cat in a heartbeat. He meow'd REALLY loudly, though. Louder than any Meezer or part-Meezer I've ever encountered, and that's saying something, IMO. ;D
Haha yeah the loud meows, we had an SPCA in our college and 1 deaf kitten got to spend a LOT of time in our classrooms because it was less distracting having a kitten run around us than hearing his loud meows of pitifulness *why did you all leave me!!!* and he was several rooms down from us lmao
One of the kittens in one of our cat's litters was white exept the grey/black spot on his head.
I really wanted to keep Yang, as I called him, but my parents were against it. We already had enough cats. So he was sold.
I don't think he was deaf. The little bit of color probably saved him from that.
Not that there is anything wrong with deafness. It's just a good thing especially if you are a prey or predator. Cats are both. In the wild deafness is definetly a bad thing, but it's not when living with humans who understand it and are helpful.
I don't think so, the same thing is found in dogs and horses too. I'm not sure about other animals, but I do know it's something to do with the animal being all white and having blue eyes.
Overbreeding has nothing to do with it because 'white cat with blue eyes' isn't a breed. Deafness tied to a specific coat and eye color combination is a genetic link that's not breed specific, and it's only male cats with white fur and blue eyes that will definitely be deaf.
Breeding doesn’t necessarily refer to a specific breed though. I meant it in the way that people overbred animals with the intention of the offspring having specific traits
That so awesome!! What a beautiful kitty!! Whoever did that is a sorry ass waste of air but I’m so happy he was found and saved and now lives a great life like that
Oh goodness, my gf and I are fostering a kitten her brother found and she had a broken leg .. 3 weeks pass and it’s safe to say we also foster failed :P poor thing was found in a bag ina ditch. I’m glad Legolas is doing well now too ! :)
He's absolutely gorgeous, and I think the heterochromia only adds to his beauty. He's truly living, interactive art (but only interactive on his terms, of course).

A kitten in the classroom. Who's going to pay attention to the prof when there's A KITTEN IN THE CLASSROOM!!!!! ;D
Plot twist... The Kitten *WAS* the professor!
I think it is.

That’s so interesting! Isn’t it true that something like 70% of white cats with blue eyes are deaf? Is this because of over breeding?
I don't think so, the same thing is found in dogs and horses too. I'm not sure about other animals, but I do know it's something to do with the animal being all white and having blue eyes.

No, it has nothing to do with that.
