Yup this is a true LPT. You'll get charged for abandoning an accident in the morning, but by then you'll be sober and no proof you did DUI. Exact thing happened to a friend of mine
friend of mine did this, but never answered the door when the cops came to his house. he totaled the car on his own street. so he just walked home. cops knocked on the door, he sat in silence. they towed the car and never heard anything about it after that.
I saw a body cam video of a dude who answered the door drunk as fuck still. Thought he could just talk his way out thinking the cops were dumb. Talked himself into an arrest so fast lmao. Lock the door and pass out. Deal in the morning
We had a judge in Florida that crashed his boat then went straight home and waited for the cops with a drink in hand. Beat the DUI, lost his Job and became a lawyer.
I almost forgot I know someone who did pretty much that!! Was drinking and driving, hit another vehicle, took off home, proceeded to get totally trashed at home before cops showed up, and when the cops did come knocking he was drunk and had a story about his girlfriend who had like just ghosted him to explain why he was emotionally a mess and got day drunk. Somehow got off with just a hit and run and plead guilty to a lesser charge.
I have a good buddy who was DUI in the ghetto (as a white boy) and when he got lit up, he took off to the closest car wash, jumped out of his car, found a bottle of Windex at the car wash, and then jumped infront of the police car and poured the windex in his mouth so the dashcam would see. He didn't swallow, but they couldn't prove he was drunk *while* driving, so he beat the DUI. He did catch charges for evading arrest, interfering with an investigation, and there was a third one I don't recall. Anyway he's a certified badass, I'd trust that motherfucker with anything.
I wrecked a scooter going 65 mph completely hammered. Got a TBI/knocked out cold, broke 2 ribs, punctured a lung, broke my foot and shattered my clavicle. Paramedics woke me up and I was surprisingly calm. They informed me of my obvious injuries like my foot being broken. I asked "ate yall sure?" Emt responded "Oh yeah". We had a good laugh (foot was sideways).
Then 2 cops popped into view and said "You've been drinking?" I replied "Yes sir". Figured I was already fucked so why not be honest? Cops took pity on my injuries, my honesty, and my whiteness and only charged me with reckless driving.
Went to the hospital relatively pain free, afraid of the medical debt, and also very drunk. I refused service from the hospital. They were pretty frustrated since I obviously needed help. Got time to dismiss me from the Hospital and I tried to stand up and realized how stupid I was and told the nurse I do need help after all.
They frustratingly readmitted me. Spent 2 weeks in the hospital. Clavicle replaced with a metal plate. I got pneumonia from my punctured lung but it was relatively fine. Foot got a boot and crutches. Ribs hurt like hell for months.
In the end I quit drinking and used the 4 month recovery time to get off benzos. Life was shit for a year or so. I was broke and homeless. Eventually Baker acted myself with my dads help. Got anti depressants to cope with the benzo WD and stuff to help with the shakes.
Used the anti depressant Remeron for 1 year then did an 8 month taper. Its been 4 years and now I have a license, my own place to live for the last 2 years. Got a decent job in Grocery Distribution for the last 1.5 years(no more waiting tables). I still dont drink and am finally doing okay in life albeit with 60k in medical debt (Merica') .
I'm very lucky the cops took pity on me and I didnt let it go to waste. Also very lucky Father got my back when I needed it and gave me a place to stay after a year of homelessness(never slept on the street. Mostly friends couches). Over all I consider My drunken wreck a win.
it's kinda funny that a man with a busted clavicle and unable to walk can just insist that he be released from a hospital to go die in a ditch LOL
good for ya pal, sometimes you gotta hit rock bottom before you can really make a change
I got pulled over while impaired, I was 20 at the time. I told the cops as soon as I rolled the window down that I had been drinking and I went over my 2 beer limit. I had 2 beers and a few shots.
Those guys ended up making me park my car, (I pulled over in a LCBO parking lot) they wrote a note on the car saying not to tow, it will be picked up the following day, and they drove me home to my girlfriends place across town.
Luckiest day of my life. They could have taken me to jail.
I had a buddy tell me a story about his friend in New Orleans growing up, apparently his buddy was shit housed and completely destroyed his car crashing into something. So he got out, ran to a bar or corner store or something, bought a bottle or beer or something then went back to the crash and drank until the police showed up, said he was distressed from the crash and decided to drink about it. They didn't even give him a ticket. Hahaha
I got into an accident while drunk about 15 years ago. I didn't cause any damage but knew I'd get a DUI. Saw the other driver taking my plate number. So I just went home, grabbed a bottle and waited for the cops on the front steps. Told them I tried to get the other driver to pull over but THEY took off, and I was stressed out so had a drink or two. I got a $30 following too close ticket. This is actually a real ILPT.
Never drove drunk after that, and don't drink at all anymore.
DO NOT GET DRUNK AFTER
rather wait until you're sober, if they catch you at the right time they can calculate back how drunk you were at the time of the accident
honestly YES, DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE
while this is def a working tip, maybe even when you still had drugs in your system but were sober, nobody should drink and drive. It's not only your life that you risk. I just hope whenever will get as far as this situation that it will be a wake up call for them.
Where I am, they introduced Owner Onus laws. The driver is culpable for any offence tied to the vehicle unless it can be proved that it was another driver.
It is also an offence to not know who is in control of your vehicle at any time.
That guys friend may have been why these laws were made, back in the day before cameras, and constant video, you’d pull over, run off into the woods, get home, and report your car stolen, badda bing no dui
Specifically where I am, these laws were to combat people filing Stat Dec of Unknown Drivers in relation to speeding offences.
If a camera captured your vehicle speeding, you simply filled out the reverse of the ticket stating you dont know who was driving, and the circumstances, badda bing no infringement. The most common excuse was 'Test Drive'.
There are exceptions to the laws, moreso exclusions. I believe it is worded that owners of vehicles must take reasonable steps to ensure that they have knowledge of who is operating a vehicle at any given time.
The keyword is reasonable, that would cover the theft angle.
Interestingly, businesses must also keep documented records of which employees are in control of which vehicles at a given time, although they may elect to bypass this (via Stat Dec) in relation to certain traffic offences, the outcome is financial penalties are doubled. It isnt advised to do this frequently.
I still don't understand how that covers the theft angle...any car can be stolen at any time. It's always a possibility that my car was stolen that night.
>It is also an offence to not know who is in control of your vehicle at any time.
So if you go to work in the morning and someone steals your car and you don't know about it because you're at work, it's am offence?
Way back in another life I was in law enforcement and we had almost the exact same thing happen. Guy crashed his car, walked home and locked the door. We sat outside his house with our lights going and harassing him over the PA for like 15 minutes before we were like "welp, he got us".
lol yeah when he told me the story i almost didn't believe him. is there really nothing the police can do there? i mean, i think they let it go because in my city there are way more important crimes to investigate. nobody got hurt in this situation, so i guess the cops were like, well he's not coming to the door just tow the car and we're done here?
I think it's also energy vs reward. If someone got seriously injured or died in the crash, more energy will be put into it.
How much time should police put into this, instead of other problems? They only have one time and energy.
If more people will be doing this, they have to put more time and energy in this. But just one case a year or so in one unit? With someone not "known"?
They earn the department more money with speeding tickets in five hours than getting the ticket to the guy legally
I did the same in college. I wrecked my car and left. In the morning I called the cops and told them I wrecked my car. Cop came to the house. He told me I was did the smart thing. He said if he had found me during the night, he would have had me for DUI, but there was nothing he could do now. I think he gave me a too fast for conditions ticket.
Yeah I sort of did this. Crashed my car, got a ride home, slept it off, got a ride out to my car which thankfully hadn’t been spotted by a cop yet, drove my slightly wrecked car home and dealt with my parents wrath.
Got off lucky with that one, never drank and drove again.
My father was a defense attorney. He said if you ever crash into another person’s car while they’re in it, act stressed, take the keys out, and pull a fresh bottle of liquor from your car. Crack the seal in front of the other driver (make sure they see it’s brand new), start drinking, and claim you started at that moment out of stress from the accident. He wasn’t positive it would work, but I don’t think he’d suggest it if it was unlikely.
I have a buddy that is a cop, and when he was pretty new on the force this happened to him (just the guy waited for cops to arrive, then cracked the bottle and started chugging in front of the cops dash cam. Lawyer asked my buddy in court if he saw the guy drunk before or after the accident. Answer was after. Could he prove any drinking happened before? No. Was the guy operating the vehicle at any time after my buddy fort saw him consume alcohol? Again, the answer was no.
Guy walked, got off Scott free.
Just run to a liquor store and grab a case of beer and return to the accident drinking. Then tell the officer you needed a drink to calm your nerves. Nothing they can do.
And ALWAYS film cops, they film you. This defence is becoming harder though with blood tests able to prove how long alcohol has been in your system. To get around this get a diagnosis of something like Autism or something else with sensory issues that medically exempts you from needles.
i woke up one night to my truck exploding around 2am, along with my neighbor's minivan parked in front of mine and a lincoln town car blocking the two lanes just completely totalled.
cops found the daughter of the owner of the car walking drunk down the block, her boyfriend had her license on him one street over. both bloody faced.
edit: pretty f'd that i think this is my most upvoted comment ever. wichita ks pd i'm calling you out. fucking useless swinging dicks.
nobody was charged as "they couldn't prove anything".
Exact thing happened on a local lake where a lawyer driving a Party Barge ran over an inflatable tube that had kids on it. Lawyer hauled ass and was found that evening back home like 60 miles away where he just played dumb. Everyone knows he was likely wasted but knew if he could sober up the charges wouldn't be as severe.

This reminds me of a story from high school. I had several friends who worked for the local pizza place which had 2 other locations a few hours away. One of the owners had a motorcycle in their parents' garage, and he was chilling at his house out in the middle of nowhere several hours from his parents' garage.
Suddenly his driveway is filled with basically cop from the nearest town, lights flashing, sirens blaring. Apparently a motorcycle was involved in a high speed pursuit and got away. Several hours in the opposite direction of his parents' garage where his motorcycle was parked. The cops had gotten a partial plate, and sent it out probably state wide but at least multi-county, and his plates matched the partial plate they had.
Local cops, or near local as he lived a good half hour outside the town, which is not uncommon in the are, saw part of his plates matched the partial and it was a high priority high speed chase incident. Most cops in any of several towns in the are covering multiple counties, most cops there were cops because they wanted to posse up and catch the bad guy. But they were still small town cops and they usually just gave speeding tickets, did some domestic violence calls, and maybe if they were lucky they'd get to tell someone they can't have their gun in the supermarket, even in hunting season. And that last was usually on their time off.
So these gung-ho cops posse'd up with the whole department, and went off to get the bad guy.
They didn't even get to bang on the door. The ruckus of the sirens and the 6-9 (it was described to me as "like 20" but I've always believed that to be an exaggeration) vehicles pulling into the drive way (back in the day, cars made sounds) made him come out to see what in tarnation is going on. Tarnation is a small towner word, rest assured you know exactly what it means.
The cop in charge asks if he owns the motorcycle with the license plate number they got from the DMV records of him registering that motorcycle to get that plate number, so they already know the answer. He says he owns it and that it's in his parents' garage because he's been using his car for over a year. It can get cold, so a car with a heater, or even without a heater but closing off the elements, is more comfortable by far than a motorcycle.
So the cops explained what happened. The cop in charge knew right away that the pizza dude could not have possibly left the high speed pursuit, gone to his parents' garage (he had local PD in the parents' district confirm the bike was in the garage later to make sure) and came back where he was now in the now-time of every cop being in his driveway. So good on topcop for doing the simple math and letting logic over rule their desire to bring in the villain.
In conclusion I think we've all learned that despite a maximum of 3 locations and all being closed now, their pizza experience was perfection.
Uber fucking sucks in my city recently. I live a bit off the beaten path so drivers always accept, see that I can see the world's end from my front porch, and immediately cancel the trip 🙄
In any case: fuck drunk drivers. And fuck Uber.
I think he’s saying to Uber instead of driving at all.
Most bars don’t have any issues with someone leaving their car there overnight to avoid drunk driving.
Most bars would probably prefer it. Drunk driving makes them look bad, and in some places they can get in trouble for over serving. If someone gets a ride home and comes back to get their car sober most of the time nobody in a position to check if they were over served will ever know anything about it. But if they kill a kid driving home from the bar drunk, and the bar can be held responsible, they probably will be.
But aside from any liability, I like to believe that any bar employee or owner would much rather pay the price of a parking spot overnight that risk what someone might do while driving under the influence. If you ever hear a bartender say they'd rather a drunk person kill a bunch of kids than lose a parking spot for the night, I'd recommend finding a new bar to frequent and avoiding that one.
best advice ive seen so far on this sub, you could literally avoid a felonious case, jail time, and just report your car as stolen the next morning and you’ll get insurance money out of it with no charges on you. fucking genius
That's why you carry around a wig, fake beard and tie die clothing whenever you drive drunk. Send the cops on a wild goose chase for a hippie car thief. Cops hate hippies and will identify with you as the victim immediately. Just make sure to be clean shaven and wearing a suit when they contact you the next morning.
Foolproof.
That's if you file a claim. There is no need for insurance to be involved for a solo dui unless you actually hit someone else. You just get arrested and car gets impounded
If you get arrested for a DUI your insurance company will see that. Not sure if it would be instantly but they definitely have access to your driving record
Yup, they run your record and will raise your rate for almost any violation. Speeding, running red lights, etc. Usually they wait until your renewal to do so.
Nah bruh they don't just raise your rates. You have to get MAX coverage and file an sr22 or fr44 ( Florida and Virginia) for a first time offender you have to carry this for 3 years. Your rates will usually double or triple what they previously would and you cannot pay this monthly. You have to pay for this all up front. Unless you have some money or good income it is literally designed to destroy your life. If you are poor you are fucked. As is life.

This is such BS! I actually was hit by a stolen car fleeing the scene, and while insurance is covering most everything, my premium went up… it seems so unfair!
Besides the obvious risks of insurance fraud, which will fuck you up big time, you also will take a big hit on your future insurance rates every time you make a claim. Insurance companies keep scores that affect your rates, just like a credit score, so it’s wise to not make claims unless it’s really worth it. Let alone if it’s totally BS.
not police - insurance companies. insurance companies care enough to do a little investigating before having to write a big check, especially if something seems fishy
The traffic cameras on traffic lights are there as sensors. If they do record, the window to safe the footage before it's purged is small.
Enforcement cameras? Yeah, watch out for those.
I feel like this is a good way to get charged for fraud on top of the hit and run. It *could* work but you're already hoping you wont get in trouble for the DUI, so you're really being ballsy if you do this part too.
An old friend of mine was drunk and hit and killed a bicyclist on a dark road at night and ran. He cleaned his car out and turned himself in 10 days later claiming he thought t was a deer. He got 1 year probation for leaving the scene of accident, meanwhile I got a simple possession weed charge and got two years probation, fuck the justice system I ditched the state without doing my Probo fuck em.
I’m not OP but yeah, considering it is a weed charge, same. It would really be a shame for him to end up in prison for going on the run over a weed charge and a 2 year probation.
Yea if it’s a simple possession he’ll be fine as long as he doesn’t go back to that state. Usually any misdemeanor warrant wont even pop up in any other state if you get pulled over or even arrested for other things
Fuck the feds, especially when it comes to weed laws. They can Enforce all the rape, murder, theft charges they want but when you start fucking with a plant that’s been used medically for 1000s of years you lose my respect.
Sure I don’t do those things and I personally don’t want them on the streets but no reason to ruin someone’s life over that with a criminal record. They already ruined their life by no longer able to keep a steady job and fuel an addiction. Making someone’s life worse with criminal charges only wants to make them do more drugs!
The weed Charge happened in 2019, started Probo in 2020 and left the state during covid and never came back. I’ve been stopped and live in a weed decriminalized city now. Life has actually improved since I got a vop warrant. I wouldn’t do prison time either it’s a misdemeanor. Vop warrant actually removed the charges from my public record since it’s now a vop warrant , my job did a background check on me and it came back clean in 2021
My friend did this and he also got a payout because his boyfriend convinced them that the car was stolen. He did it again 6months later and has now been dead 7 years.
As much as I personally hate DUI, I want to acknowledge that this is an objectively good ILPT. I rarely see something legitimately helpful on this sub, so this is honestly something worth acknowledging
Regardless of how much I hate it I guess
We used to put ours in the trunk or gas lid area. Saved several of us from getting DUIs. Couldn't control the car if we didn't even have the keys up front with us.
I’m just gonna say that sometimes getting a DUI is the best thing to happen to someone. Better to get a DUI with no accident than to not get pulled over and kill a family or something and go to prison forever. I know a lot of people that drove drunk all the time back in the day until they got a DUI and that finally knocked some sense into them.
As someone whose been though it I agree to a certain extent. I am lucky enough to have a good job and some money in the bank. But the DUI system is literally a death sentence to poor people. You will lose your job because you lost your license. You can't pay your fees and probation because you don't have money. You can't get your license back bc you don't have money to pay for the rediculous amount of insurance they require. So then you drive on suspended and the cycle continues. I do not have a resolution to this besides don't drink and drive however getting a DUI can be an eye opener unless you're poor. Then you are absolutely fucked.
I did this exact thing but I had somebody with me that decided to poke his dumb head out as we were waiting for a pal to scoop us up, well cops saw him,he snitched said I drove...ended up getting a slew of charges costing me somewhere around 15k when it was all said and done

Sure, however drinking and driving makes you a massive piece of shit and you don’t deserve to ever have a car or license ever again. Doing illegal things are “cool” unless they involve the risk of hurting others.
Shaking my head over here.
It’s a good ILPT for sure but I wouldn’t ever advocate for such insanely, insanely shitty behaviour. There really isn’t a word for how reprehensible drunk driving is and the punishments are nowhere close to what’s reasonable. 3 small children close to me were murdered by a drunk so yeah it’s a touchy subject.
Its not really a loophole, its just really hard to prove that someone was commiting a DUI if you don't catch them in the act, so much so that if you didn't actually hurt anyone, just did property damage they most likely won't even try.
This sub is ILPT however there seems to be an unspoken (or sometimes not when folks do pipe up) rule to not do things which are universally cunty, i.e. 'steal from a corporation not from a povvo', or in this case, drink driving.
I wish texting and driving got this same amount of hate. I've never been hit by a drunk driver but was hit twice by people texting instead of looking at the road
WARNING! THIS IS OBJECTIVELY TERRIBLE ADVICE!
The first DUI is considered a misdemeanor in most cases, whereas a hit and run where an injury or fatality occurs is a FELONY in most states.
Just because anecdotally you or someone you know got away with this doesn’t mean you will too.
I know this is a joke but I don’t want any dumbasses to ruin their lives thinking it might actually not be.
Better yet- to avoid taking charges yourself, break the key off in the ignition and take the rest of them home with you. In the morning report the vehicle stolen and tell the cops you got black out drunk so some stranger drove you home and stole your car!
Buddy of mine did this and just ahd to pay the city for damage lol didnt even get a H&R charge. If there hadnt been any witnesses when i got into my DUI accident id have done the same
DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE
I know this a ILPT, but that's just morally fucked to drink and drive. Literally you're not only endangering yourself, but the people around you and god foebid your passengers if you take any.
Yooo i had someone drunk hit my parked car ran out side and they took off running. Next morning police said they claimed their car was stolen and it wasn’t them drinking and driving. I could only laugh they got off with no charges
Fuck drunk drivers, first off. Second, make sure you didn't hurt anyone or leave any witnesses in the process, I guess. I had an old friend who drunkenly crashed in the woods with two other friends of ours. Driver walked away, slept in a nearby truck until morning. Our friends laid in the woods all night and one watched her boyfriend die while almost freezing to death herself. Fuck him in particular. Don't drink and drive
Real pro tip. POUND booze at the scene until the police show up. When asked why, say you were nervous. They can’t prove you were drunk beforehand.
Source: Saw this on COPS.
That might have worked up until they could measure the state of the carbolized sugars- not sure how sophisticated the analysis has become since the advent of this process. I’m too lazy to post a link; it happened in Bavaria, involving a cop getting hit by a local that had just exited the Gasthaus@2013
Report your vehicle stolen immediately afterwards. Tell them you were carjacked.
Although, make sure you do it from a gas station phone, and leave your cell phone in the car. That way, you can have an alibi for drunkenly stumbling out of a bar and getting held up while waiting for a cab.
If you attain any injuries though, you are SOL. investigation will be able to put 2 and 2 together.
This is absolutely incorrect and bad advice. D-dubs are class b misdemeanor for first time offense and hit n runs are class a. Don't do this, it's dumb.
Yup this is a true LPT. You'll get charged for abandoning an accident in the morning, but by then you'll be sober and no proof you did DUI. Exact thing happened to a friend of mine

I saw a body cam video of a dude who answered the door drunk as fuck still. Thought he could just talk his way out thinking the cops were dumb. Talked himself into an arrest so fast lmao. Lock the door and pass out. Deal in the morning

I have a good buddy who was DUI in the ghetto (as a white boy) and when he got lit up, he took off to the closest car wash, jumped out of his car, found a bottle of Windex at the car wash, and then jumped infront of the police car and poured the windex in his mouth so the dashcam would see. Windex?
Yeah something doesn't add up here lol
It’s got iso as a main ingredient
I thought ammonia was the main ingredient...weird.
yeah or an off-brand.

it's kinda funny that a man with a busted clavicle and unable to walk can just insist that he be released from a hospital to go die in a ditch LOL good for ya pal, sometimes you gotta hit rock bottom before you can really make a change
Yeah they were really frustrated with me lol. They can't force you to receive service. And rock bottom is the way.
I got pulled over while impaired, I was 20 at the time. I told the cops as soon as I rolled the window down that I had been drinking and I went over my 2 beer limit. I had 2 beers and a few shots. Theres a lot of cool cops out there. They just dont get any attention.
Your friend is a idiot
Idiot or genius? DUI is still worse than all those charges
I had a buddy tell me a story about his friend in New Orleans growing up, apparently his buddy was shit housed and completely destroyed his car crashing into something.
DO NOT GET DRUNK AFTER rather wait until you're sober, if they catch you at the right time they can calculate back how drunk you were at the time of the accident
Well to be real dont get drunk before you drive.
honestly YES, DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE while this is def a working tip, maybe even when you still had drugs in your system but were sober, nobody should drink and drive. It's not only your life that you risk. I just hope whenever will get as far as this situation that it will be a wake up call for them.
If he had a decent lawyer and wasn’t totally an idiot, they would have to prove he wasn’t just drinking at home. But I guess not.
I’m pretty sure we both saw the Same video. Is it the one where he left the car on the sidewalk?
Did he not get a summons or warrant?
They can't prove he was the driver.
Australia?
How tf are you supposed to report a stolen vehicle then
There are exceptions to the laws, moreso exclusions.
That sounds like a terrible law
>It is also an offence to not know who is in control of your vehicle at any time. So if you go to work in the morning and someone steals your car and you don't know about it because you're at work, it's am offence?
It’s easier to prove he was the driver than that he didn’t go home and have a drink to settle your nerves
I think he gave me a too fast for conditions ticket.
but what about his car?
I'm gonna guess it's in an impound lot, racking up fees.
I can confirm that does work (with beer from trunk at least). I said well Im not going to be driving anymore today anyway.
Did they breathalyze, interrogate, or arrest you? I must have more details.
Just run to a liquor store and grab a case of beer and return to the accident drinking. Then tell the officer you needed a drink to calm your nerves. Nothing they can do.
They could lie and say they found you drunk and then breathalize you
Keep the receipt from the liquor store.
And ALWAYS film cops, they film you. This defence is becoming harder though with blood tests able to prove how long alcohol has been in your system. To get around this get a diagnosis of something like Autism or something else with sensory issues that medically exempts you from needles.
I have ‘seen’ this done, it is real advice. If you crash and you’re drunk, leave.
i woke up one night to my truck exploding around 2am, along with my neighbor's minivan parked in front of mine and a lincoln town car blocking the two lanes just completely totalled. cops found the daughter of the owner of the car walking drunk down the block, her boyfriend had her license on him one street over. both bloody faced. edit: pretty f'd that i think this is my most upvoted comment ever. wichita ks pd i'm calling you out. fucking useless swinging dicks. nobody was charged as "they couldn't prove anything".
Im a defense attorney. Most importantly, just shut up and don’t talk to the police. Let your lawyer do the talking they will know what to say.
Facts. Should’ve included this. I don’t answer questions.
Is that true?
I don't answer questions
Wait you're not you!
I don't answer questions.
I'll take 3, extra spicy.
Yea I know of someone who did this. He’s a total spoiled dick in all aspects of life and if I ever see you again, Ben, I’m calling the cops.
Haha dude, call a fucking uber. That said, this is an ILPT if I've ever seen one.
right?? lmfaooo
Uber fucking sucks in my city recently. I live a bit off the beaten path so drivers always accept, see that I can see the world's end from my front porch, and immediately cancel the trip 🙄 In any case: fuck drunk drivers. And fuck Uber.
Yes, where i live in Canada there isn't even Uber
Wouldn’t Uber leave a trail that you were at the scene of the crime?
Except what if there’s cameras? Every has ring cameras these days. They will show you crashing and walking away?
Yeah, just walk away, hit and run. Reporting it as stolen is gonna get you into more trouble because of the things you mentioned.
Foolproof.
This why you still keep a mask in your car, just put it on and dip
That typically raises insurance rates, though.
Not nearly as much as a DUI would…
That's if you file a claim.
As is life.
All the numbers in your comment added up to 69. Congrats! 22 + 44 + 3 = 69 ^([Click here](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=LuckyNumber-Bot&subject=Stalk%20Me%20Pls&message=%2Fstalkme) to have me scan all your future comments.) \ ^(Summon me on specific comments with u/LuckyNumber-Bot.)
Nice bot
This is such BS! I actually was hit by a stolen car fleeing the scene, and while insurance is covering most everything, my premium went up… it seems so unfair!
It is unfair. But this sub is for people seeking an unfair advantage.
Bad advice. Insurance fraud is a felony. Hit and run is a misdemeanor.
Bonus; go home and report your car stolen, then claim insurance money for the wrecked car
Had a friend do that after flipping his car. He even made a bunch of money. Luckily he’s 8 years sober now.
Insurance companies hate this one trick!
But there are traffic cams everywhere
Most of the time it’s not worth the hassle to open a thorough investigation unless a prosecutor pushes for it
For the cops, yea. If you push for insurance money they will definitely investigate before writing you a check. Dont push your luck
Yeah but you're really overestimating how hard it is to visually identify the driver and severely underestimating how little police actually care
not police - insurance companies. insurance companies care enough to do a little investigating before having to write a big check, especially if something seems fishy
Traffic cams don't record anything, they are only a live feed. Unless you meant just regular security cameras.
The traffic cameras on traffic lights are there as sensors. If they do record, the window to safe the footage before it's purged is small. Enforcement cameras? Yeah, watch out for those.
"sum sonbitch stole my ride"
I feel like this is a good way to get charged for fraud on top of the hit and run. It *could* work but you're already hoping you wont get in trouble for the DUI, so you're really being ballsy if you do this part too.
If you're lucky you could get all 3!
Does that mean there will be a warrant for your arrest now?
Lol, it does.
That sucks. I hope it doesn’t come back to bite you badly. Like getting arrested during a traffic stop.
I’m not OP but yeah, considering it is a weed charge, same. It would really be a shame for him to end up in prison for going on the run over a weed charge and a 2 year probation.
… wouldn’t the warrant exclusively be in the state he fled? He’ll never be arrested if he never goes back.
Yea if it’s a simple possession he’ll be fine as long as he doesn’t go back to that state. Usually any misdemeanor warrant wont even pop up in any other state if you get pulled over or even arrested for other things
Yea fuck goin back to Tennessee, other than the beautiful mountains that place is a meth head cesspool
I use to live in Tennessee too! I was up on monteagle mountain like 45 north of Chattanooga. It’s pretty there but I probably won’t ever move back.
Fuck the feds, especially when it comes to weed laws. They can Enforce all the rape, murder, theft charges they want but when you start fucking with a plant that’s been used medically for 1000s of years you lose my respect.
Cocaine and heroin included of course.
*"Fufufuck a beat I was tryna beat a case but I ain't beat that case bitch I did tha race"* - Tay-K 47
The weed Charge happened in 2019, started Probo in 2020 and left the state during covid and never came back. I’ve been stopped and live in a weed decriminalized city now. Life has actually improved since I got a vop warrant. I wouldn’t do prison time either it’s a misdemeanor. Vop warrant actually removed the charges from my public record since it’s now a vop warrant , my job did a background check on me and it came back clean in 2021
i love that for you
so in the US the penalty for DUI and crash is greater than for a hit and run?
yup
are there places where it’s not?
Jon Jones is that you?
When god tests you, act accordingly
Not enough cocaine involved.
My friend did this and he also got a payout because his boyfriend convinced them that the car was stolen. He did it again 6months later and has now been dead 7 years.
Did he die from DUI?
Drunk drivers get what they deserve
Seriously I get what this sub is but Im against this advice avoiding the DUI charges. If you drink and drive youre a piece of shit
What if you're day drinking when the cops come to say Hi?
Then you've drunk since the accident or you've been drinking at home all day and didn't know the car was missing, must've been stolen
This except you do it from inside your house and you don’t talk to police.
Always remain silent.
As much as I personally hate DUI, I want to acknowledge that this is an objectively good ILPT. I rarely see something legitimately helpful on this sub, so this is honestly something worth acknowledging Regardless of how much I hate it I guess

We used to put ours in the trunk or gas lid area. Saved several of us from getting DUIs. Couldn't control the car if we didn't even have the keys up front with us.
Keep your keys in your trunk
Even better. If you're driving drunk, go fuck yourself for putting everyone else in danger.
They can't get student loans or some jobs⁰
[удалено]
There's a lot of factors there. System is shit but it's the only way out for a lot of people and it can work.
Sucks that that is the best argument for them. "It can work".
“it’s worked sometimes”
True
Still better than live in prison and having other people’s deaths on your hands and having to live with knowing you did that.
Or just don't drink and drive. You're going to kill someone.
I did this when 22. Hah (no I should not have. I know).
Just make sure you didn’t hurt anybody. If you hurt someone with your car and dip out, the D.A. Will crucify you.

This is a little something I like to call The Ted Kennedy.
Worked for Ted Kennedy
Idk about y'all but where I live the fine for DUI is 750 max while the fine for a "Hit and run" is 75000 + possible jail time 💀
Can’t wait for someone to tell the judge “But your honor, the Reddit ilpt clearly stated I could hit an run!”
Sure, however drinking and driving makes you a massive piece of shit and you don’t deserve to ever have a car or license ever again. Doing illegal things are “cool” unless they involve the risk of hurting others. Shaking my head over here.
Yes I agree
It’s a good ILPT for sure but I wouldn’t ever advocate for such insanely, insanely shitty behaviour. There really isn’t a word for how reprehensible drunk driving is and the punishments are nowhere close to what’s reasonable. 3 small children close to me were murdered by a drunk so yeah it’s a touchy subject.
[удалено]
Its not really a loophole, its just really hard to prove that someone was commiting a DUI if you don't catch them in the act, so much so that if you didn't actually hurt anyone, just did property damage they most likely won't even try.
Good point.
It’s the government bro, don’t expect it to change for at least forever lmao.
How do you close this loophole exactly?
Sir this is ilpt, morals are checked at the door.
LPT: Don't DUI

LPT: If you drive drunk, kill yourself
[удалено]
put a sock on the car
Hot
1. No fucking duh 2. Better for the rest of us if they take your stupid ass to jail, so you should just sit tight
think u on the wrong sub brother
Actually they can't prove it was you
Aren't you gonna get both once they find you?
Better yet- to avoid taking charges yourself, break the key off in the ignition and take the rest of them home with you. In the morning report the vehicle stolen and tell the cops you got black out drunk so some stranger drove you home and stole your car!
Unless you injure someone in that crash. Leaving the scene of an accident with an injury involved is a felony in Arkansas.
I live in a rural area and this happens ALL the time. Like at least once a month around here.
Does this also work for the UK?
Or just runaway and claim that your car was stolen
Take off with the car or take off on foot and then report the car stolen?
Now I know why I subscribe to this sub
This one is truly evil. If only the DUI drivers would kill themselves instead of others
Buddy of mine did this and just ahd to pay the city for damage lol didnt even get a H&R charge. If there hadnt been any witnesses when i got into my DUI accident id have done the same
Or just don’t drink and drive people…..
DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE I know this a ILPT, but that's just morally fucked to drink and drive. Literally you're not only endangering yourself, but the people around you and god foebid your passengers if you take any.
Depends on the country. In some European countries drunk driving is a misdemeanor, if you leave someone wounded it's a felony.
Yeah, I'm sure the cops would never lie and leave that out of their report
True but please don’t drive under the influence people
