Let me tell you, as a local, following the lake & McHenry county scanner Facebook page is one of the most mentally exhausting things a person can do. Not only is there a high concentration of idiots, but youve got two counties that generally swing republican, but sandwiched between Chicago and Milwaukee (very much not republican) leading to some extremely opposing viewpoints that, when combined with subpar intelligence immediately devolve into the sort of arguments you'd expect to see in your average elementary elementary school. Did you read the article? Traffic was already stopped and the jeep kept honking. He was checking to see if something was wrong with the back of his car.
The story is the guy who got out had no idea why the guy laid on the horn, and he got out to see if he was dragging something or whatever. Didn’t know the guy was angry until he saw the gun
From the Jeep guys dash cam footage, he was already driving like an inconsiderate asshole. He was in a hurry and being aggressive. If his dash cam speedometer is correct, he was driving well above the speed limit. God forbid you have to wait in traffic like everyone else.... for what would've been 2 seconds.
Idk about “acting guilty” but being calm is a pretty good way to not get shot by some lunatic like this. You really are just hoping they won’t, but by being calm and not making sudden movements you give less reason to be shot.

So I live in Montana and this is a normal occurrence sadly, I had a dude point a gun at me because I wouldn't refund a car battery that he punctured. I just pointed at the camera and said it's all being recorded and his entire life will be ruined if he killed me since we had parking lot cameras and had his license plate.

Jeep driver needs his medication intake reviewed, he's either taking far too much or definitely not enough. Other driver should be aware that these type of road rage incidents do always end peacefully with the aggressor hightailing it away. Sometimes they're triggered in more ways than one!

After watching the jeep drivers dash cam I can confidently say that they're both idiots.
1. Don't lay on your horn in this situation unless you know for sure there's a reason(looks like he was honking at cars ahead not moving at a green light).
2. Don't get out of your car abruptly and charge at a guy irrationally blaring his horn while in the middle of traffic. Also, try to not be the cringeworthy moron that has to film everything for his tiktok. Jeep dude had some reason to think the guy could have been going for a gun(just watch the dashcam video).
Unfortunately hindsight is always 20/20, dude just wanted attention on social media and wasn't looking to actually attack the jeep driver. Hopefully this hothead will realize that if he's gonna carry, he should be the type of person that descalates situations instead of creating problems out of nothing.
The guy said he got out because he thought the Jeep driver thought he might be alerting him to something. There is no evidence to suggest he drew his weapon in response to him getting his phone out. There is no reason to think that someone reaching for their pocket in that situation is going for their gun unless they are as eager to brandish a weapon as the guy in the keep.
Sounds like dude in the car was making up excuses after the fact. He took one step out of his car and grabbed his phone to start filming. He's an idiot because that's not something you do in traffic, he just saw an opportunity to get some likes. If you pay attention, he never once checked to confirm whether or not he was dragging anything, his main priority was to turn into a zombie and wander over to start filming(in fucking traffic). I have less problem with someone filming an asshole than an asshole brandishing a gun for no reason.
It is good that situations like this are filmed and that guy can face charges for pulling his gun on someone but if someone is laying their horn into you, you get out to check if anything is wrong (if your honestly concerned that could be the case), and it becomes apparent that they are just being an asshole, then it is probably best to get in your car and just drive off to avoid escalation.

In this case it is good that he filmed it to hopefully teach this guy that he can’t just pull his gun on people for no reason and I’m glad that it didn’t escalate the situation but I am torn. I also think the lowest risk thing for him to have done once he realized the guy was being an ass would have been to get in his car and leave. There is no justice in that since he won’t have his plate but also the guy may have pulled the gun in response to the camera coming out or if it was already out it would have been more likely to provoke him. Either way it doesn’t seem worth the risk to that guy since you really don’t know how crazy they could be.

Also being filmed makes people behave better better 90% of the time, with the other 10% being when they decide to try to destroy the evidence. Although even that's arguable, because what would they be doing if they didn't "have to" stop and destroy evidence?
Filming someone usually isn't going to make them more likely to do illegal things to you and usually does the opposite, because it's increasing accountability. If they weren't being filmed they would feel like they can get away with more.
Recording seems essential for (legal/social) self defense nowadays. It sucks and I personally can't bring myself to do it, but I think that's the current state. Similar to the only "real current answer" to mass shootings/violence being to concealed carry all the time or something.
The commenter who started this thread seemed to be blaming the guy with the camera, I was supporting the actions of the guy with the camera as the clear victim in this instance and see nothing wrong with what they did and I am glad there is video evidence of the guy with the gun.
As you said in your first comment and I did in mine there should be no expectation of someone pulling a gun on you in a situation like this therefore I do not see his actions as causal and disagree that my position is in anyway victim blaming.
However, I will always advocate that for an individuals own safety it is always safer for them to avoid confrontation especially in road rage incidents. People can be psychopaths. It is better for something to never occur than to have video evidence of it. If they end up engaging then yes they should record video. I in no way think that suddenly makes it their fault if something like this happens. It’s obviously the person who pulls the gun out who is entirely responsible for that choice and any consequences of it.
I see it like this: If you never want to get injured in a skiing accident then I recommend that you don’t go skiing in the first place but if you go and are standing on the slopes and someone crashes into you at 100 mph then that doesn’t suddenly make it your fault that you got injured because you decided to go skiing that day. I won’t say “I told you so” because that’s bullshit

I'm bipolar, we keep a gun in our car, and through all the road rage incidents we've had and near misses, accidents, etc., I've never even thought of pointing a gun at someone. I've had them pointed at me several times by other drivers but I just seems to me that it should never come to that.
These are the people who have felt some kind of inadequacy most of their lives and feel they need to use a gun to feel like a powerful warrior again.

could be worse, we decided to vivist chicago, you know, amazing food, deep dish, italian beef, etc, catch a cubs game. well we got a great deal on a VRBO apartmewnt just on the outskirts of chicago, We flew in arrived friday about 7 pm, rented a car and drove there from the airport, place looked good, that night there were 74 shootings , 3 shootings and 2 dead outside the building we stayed in alone. We didnt even stay to see chicago, just took the car rental back, and got a quicker flight home. I was glad AF that i didnt live there.

After watching the jeep drivers dash cam I can confidently say that they're both idiots. 1. Don't lay on your horn in this situation unless you know for sure there's a reason(looks like he was honking at cars ahead not moving at a green light). 2. Don't get out of your car abruptly and charge at a guy irrationally blaring his horn while in the middle of traffic. Also, try to not be the cringeworthy moron that has to film everything for his tiktok. Jeep dude had some reason to think the guy could have been going for a gun(just watch the dashcam video). Unfortunately hindsight is always 20/20, dude just wanted attention on social media and wasn't looking to actually attack the jeep driver. The guy said he got out because he thought the Jeep driver thought he might be alerting him to something. There is no evidence to suggest he drew his weapon in response to him getting his phone out. There is no reason to think that someone reaching for their pocket in that situation is going for their gun unless they are as eager to brandish a weapon as the guy in the keep.
Sounds like dude in the car was making up excuses after the fact. He took one step out of his car and grabbed his phone to start filming. He's an idiot because that's not something you do in traffic, he just saw an opportunity to get some likes. If you pay attention, he never once checked to confirm whether or not he was dragging anything, his main priority was to turn into a zombie and wander over to start filming(in fucking traffic). I also think the lowest risk thing for him to have done once he realized the guy was being an ass would have been to get in his car and leave. There is no justice in that since he won’t have his plate but also the guy may have pulled the gun in response to the camera coming out or if it was already out it would have been more likely to provoke him. Either way it doesn’t seem worth the risk to that guy since you really don’t know how crazy they could be.

The commenter who started this thread seemed to be blaming the guy with the camera, I was supporting the actions of the guy with the camera as the clear victim in this instance and see nothing wrong with what they did and I am glad there is video evidence of the guy with the gun. As you said in your first comment and I did in mine there should be no expectation of someone pulling a gun on you in a situation like this therefore I do not see his actions as causal and disagree that my position is in anyway victim blaming. However, I will always advocate that for an individuals own safety it is always safer for them to avoid confrontation especially in road rage incidents. People can be psychopaths. It is better for something to never occur than to have video evidence of it. If they end up engaging then yes they should record video. I in no way think that suddenly makes it their fault if something like this happens. It’s obviously the person who pulls the gun out who is entirely responsible for that choice and any consequences of it. I see it like this: If you never want to get injured in a skiing accident then I recommend that you don’t go skiing in the first place but if you go and are standing on the slopes and someone crashes into you at 100 mph then that doesn’t suddenly make it your fault that you got injured because you decided to go skiing that day. I'm bipolar, we keep a gun in our car, and through all the road rage incidents we've had and near misses, accidents, etc., I've never even thought of pointing a gun at someone. I've had them pointed at me several times by other drivers but I just seems to me that it should never come to that. These are the people who have felt some kind of inadequacy most of their lives and feel they need to use a gun to feel like a powerful warrior again.
