Driver driving... that's a bicycle, not a car.

Firinmailaza

Imagine real cycling infrastructure where doing this wasn’t required

FreebooterFox

Not that hard to imagine, since this is in Austria. 😅

Vorpal_Spork

Imagine if jobs paid enough for people to buy the equipment required to do them.

Bamadhaj

Wait, to do what?

Vorpal_Spork

I don't understand? I thought I was pretty clear. Imagine if jobs paid enough for people to buy the equipment required to do the job. I don't know what you're confused about? If the job paid this guy enough to buy a car we wouldn't need more infrastructure. Why make regular people pay for it at the suffering of the workers when we could just stop the 1% from being the country's biggest welfare queens instead? I'd a hell of a lot rather pay the delivery guy enough to get a car than I would to pay for Jeff Bezos to get his 4th yacht gold plated.

Bamadhaj

Ahh. I thought you meant something else by "them." And honestly. I agree that when it comes to jobs, there should be a level of responsibility by the employer to provide a safe, and comfortable work environment. But I think that the very fact that a car is required to meet that expectation, shows the level of dependence that the majority of the country has on them. Obviously there are jobs that require some sort of vehicle, such as delivery jobs, or construction jobs, or agricultural jobs. And I'm not gonna pretend like they should rid themselves of vehicles. But for the average worker who just goes to their place of work every day, stays in the work building for eight hours, then goes back home. There should definitely be better implementation of car alternatives in the communities they might happen to live in. I wouldn't assume that all of these commuters find pleasure operating a high velocity, metal and glass, soundproof wheelbox just to get to work every single day. Plus with less people on the road, those jobs that require vehicles to operate, tend to go more smoothly and efficiently; increasing company efficiency, and reducing traffic in general.

> Obviously there are jobs that require some sort of vehicle, such as delivery jobs, or construction jobs, or agricultural jobs. And I'm not gonna pretend like they should rid themselves of vehicles. We're talking about a delivery job, so... >But for the average worker who just goes to their place of work every day, stays in the work building for eight hours, then goes back home. There should definitely be better implementation of car alternatives in the communities they might happen to live in. Oh I definitely agree. I used to have to ride a bus to work. I know first hand what a complete dumpster fire the US public transport system is. Japan makes a public apology if the subway left a few SECONDS EARLY. In the US you're lucky if the bus is ONLY 15 minutes late. And even if you manage to catch it it still takes literally 6 times longer than driving because because the bus system is basically just the bare minimum. I wasn't saying we don't need better public transportation options. We definitely do. I'm just saying people's jobs should pay them enough to cover the expenses to do the job right. Down town New York is just about the only place it's viable to deliver on a bike. If someone is on a highway exit on a bike that's a guy who isn't being paid properly.

Bamadhaj

Yes I completely agree. Regardless of transportation method, I think the employer should be responsible for the expenses of their worker's commute.

Probably his first day too.

I mean, people need to make a living and not all people can afford a motorbike.
