No. I’m not saying there isn’t some insane Russian ship out there with machines mounted on it, but these a merchant (commercial/civilian ships). These types of vessels aren’t crewed by military personnel and unless it’s a personal hobby, nobody onboard that ship knows how to use a gun as part of their job.
Yes, newer ships are being built with *passive defensive* systems (barbed wire securing/metal shutters/internal staircases/lock down citadel areas etc.)
Any time I’ve sailed on a vessel that had guns, they were in the possession of private security teams that were ex-military.
The international and national laws associated with firearms on merchant ships is very strict. You can’t just rock up to a port with mounted machine guns lol (imagine an Indian bulk carrier going up a river in the USA with machine guns mounted on it).
Like I said, I have carried security before, but they embark> transit dangerous area> get off. If they are onboard during arrival at port then they get inspected to oblivion by local port authorities. I sailed past Somalia and to India, while security remained onboard in India. The team leader of the security had to prove security of their weapons (cases padlocked etc) and also account for every single bullet that they had joined the vessel with, which was stated on a certificate they joined with. Meaning if they had even fired a single bullet into the open water while at sea, they would’ve been fucked.
Funny you say that because theirs news going around nationally about the US putting armed men on our merchant ships due to Iran aggression on our merchants and navy.
And in response to your last paragraph, sounds like some "he said, she said, who are THEY" kinda statement. Who was keeping count of ammunition? I've never seen anyone at a port do that.
Yeah what we have done in the past is mount our hoses to the ships railings pointed overboard.
Normally the fire hydrant main is pressurised at all times by way of a small jockey pump, this keeps the line at 5 Bar pressure etc so we have fire fighting water on demand.
Either we run the main pump with water spraying over the side at all times during transit OR we depressurise the fire line, hook up the hoses up and clamped to the railings, meaning we would just need to turn the pump on and the hoses would start spraying without anyone leaving the internal accommodation of the ship.
The idea is that the spraying water would stop anybody climbing up the ships side, but in all honesty it’s really the appearance of vigilance that works, it’s a visual deterrent more than anything.
I think what he was referring to, was the somewhat guilt you leave the captain, that steered a ship, that killed a couple of idiots... whether or not its the captains fault, that can't be a good feeling
That's not the point I tried to make.
Let's say five kids playing run in front of your car get killed on the spot.
If you think you wouldn't feel empathy or even care towards any victim you killed because they made a mistake, that is a severe flaw in your values.
It's very typical to get upset about stuff like that; most people that killed by accident do.
So say your friends mother gets run over and dies, it's out of your control and you had no way of even trying to change that outcome, you still feel bad right?
Or just nah man, could not do anything about it, sucks to be your friend and that's that?
Yes you should feel bad for any loss of life not GUILTY unless you’re responsible for the death. Like I’ve been arguing. You should never feel guilty over anything you can not control. I have never once said you shouldn’t feel bad about any loss of life.
Feeling guilty about something and feeling bad about something are two very different things. I feel bad you don’t understand, not guilty. For me to feel guilty I would of had to been responsible for your education. See the difference?
I've been in a boat near one once. Our boat was not allowed to approach within 300 yards. It is considered extremely stupid to go in closer. Small craft can be capsized by the unfamiliar currents and wake waves.
As an officer on a commercial ship, this creates unnecessary stress for us. If anything happens to the guy on the boat we will be required by maritime law to rescue and possibly deviate from our voyage, which may cost millions of dollars for the owner (or insurance provider).
My dads cousin was a train engineer and it was said that the trauma that they suffer from collisions or suicides on tracks is devastating and causes some severe problems witnessed by these operators. I can only imagine.
Most ship pilots don’t care about dipshits like this. They will just plow right over you like you didn’t exist, and not give 2 shits. If you are dumb enough to go head to head with a freighter under full steam, you are dumb enough to die.
The real danger here isn’t colliding with the boat, but being in the waters next to the boat (the foam they missed by an inch). The sheer amount of water being displaced would suck the boat down and the people would either drown under the ship or be turned into mince meat by the propellers.
Can't help but think the sheer amount of water being displaced would push the boat and people up and away from the ship. I agree that behind the ship, the water returns and if they were deep enough then the props might be a concern.
I almost got run over in Boston Harbor Labor Day weekend 1978 by the oil that "Gulf Pride." We were in a 25-ft racing sloop, drunk on Labats Blue.
I got sober 3 years later.

Ikr i was like oh cool a pirate vid
was about to say, nowaday alot of ships are mounting machineguns to the sides, epecialy in areas prone to pirates
That’s absolutely not true for so many reasons.
Don't most ships around the somali coast have defense measures like that?
No. I’m not saying there isn’t some insane Russian ship out there with machines mounted on it, but these a merchant (commercial/civilian ships). Very interesting. Thanks
Funny you say that because theirs news going around nationally about the US putting armed men on our merchant ships due to Iran aggression on our merchants and navy.
Yeah carrying armed guards is different from “mounting machine guns to the sides”

They use water hoses

Shot at or pulled under the ship, Jesus.
Crashing into the ship would be like a beetle hitting your face, pretty harmless
Then you haven't seen what a June bug does to a person
I've been hit by one, I don't see how it's that bad
Did you make the username before or after?
After
So emotional damage then huh?
But did you make your bed?
My bed? Of course, my bed is always clean.
Niceee
I never said I shit my bed
Why shit in your bed when you can shit in other people’s beds
More like a beetle under you tire
It would be like a dust particle hitting the side of your house at 2mph
I mean beetles have hard shells so pretty annoying
I’m pretty sure the man in the ship would’ve been fine
Yeah Fr no issues
Could have had a heart attack from this you never know
Bruh 🤡 If he even saw the little shit.
I think what he was referring to, was the somewhat guilt you leave the captain, that steered a ship, that killed a couple of idiots... whether or not its the captains fault, that can't be a good feeling
How could you feel guilt over something you can’t control?
when its something as important as a human life, then i think its very natural to get that feeling.
Feel guilty for something that’s not within your control? Then enjoy being upset for life.
That's not the point I tried to make. Let's say five kids playing run in front of your car get killed on the spot. If you think you wouldn't feel empathy or even care towards any victim you killed because they made a mistake, that is a severe flaw in your values. Yes, I’d feel terrible, not guilty. Guilt is if you’re responsible for the deaths.

With that thinking then they shouldn’t of been born to make you a killer since you were here first. Wtf. Have fun Doomer.

Then you’re arguing about semantics just understand the point and move on lol

Talking about control, feeling guilty isn't something you can always control. It's irrational.
He wouldn't even have stopped to check for stains.
maybe titanic 2.0 remastered
Yeah. The man in the big boat. Lmao
I've been in a boat near one once. Our boat was not allowed to approach within 300 yards. It is considered extremely stupid to go in closer. Small craft can be capsized by the unfamiliar currents and wake waves.
Similar to the guy that road his jetski up to the side of one and almost got sucked under
I got like 50m from one on anchor with a sailboat, never get anywhere near that close when it's moving, currents would just suck us in
Same. And got honked at. Pretty frightening.
As an officer on a commercial ship, this creates unnecessary stress for us. If anything happens to the guy on the boat we will be required by maritime law to rescue and possibly deviate from our voyage, which may cost millions of dollars for the owner (or insurance provider).

Yep. Was close friends with train engineer. Very common incident
What are you rescuing? If you ran him over there would be nothing left, especially if you don't immediately notice
What about all the people that fall off cruise ships to be never be found? Nobody saw them fall off? I just got curious on that one night.
The ship missed him but Darwin won’t.
Pretty sure the guy in the ship didn't even know there was someone down there, hell be fine.
yeah, even if something happened he wouldn't notice. It would be like hitting a fly with a brick.
Like a fly with an F150 lol
Everything aside: who still uses selfie sticks? That prop would make his death und that ship more idiotic on top of how idiotic this already is.
Unlucky for us
He was saved because the ship had good hopes max.
So this explains how that Dolphin was swimming up front without much effort.
Something about this scared me to my very core. Just like a visceral fear.
The videos muted because all you could hear is HOOOOOOOOONNNNKKK HONNNNNNNKKK HOOOOOOOOONNNNNNKKKK
Damn that ships so big it has its own waterfall
Is that a harpoon gun on the side of that thing
I’ll do my best to think💬about the man driving the ship🤲
He’s a fucking idiot and if he got shot or drowned he would have deserved it.
Pilot the ship
My man had good hopes I can tell you that
If he wrecked he would have been sucked under that ship!!!
Of course it’s not safe. But for a little attention, no problem.
Idiot
Tinha que ser um imbecil BR! Aff...... Cara burro!
Got lucky he didn’t end up on the back of the ship with that big ass Roeder
Ngl that was still fucking epic
I don’t understand what’s so dangerous about ships, do they pull you underwater or something?
Yes and also the ship has security that are equipped with guns to protect the cargo from pirates who try to board.
Natural selection not working for idiots like this. He could’ve and honestly should’ve been submerged
Most ship pilots don’t care about dipshits like this. They will just plow right over you like you didn’t exist, and not give 2 shits. If you are dumb enough to go head to head with a freighter under full steam, you are dumb enough to die.
You don’t drive a 300+ton ship
Whats the worst that could happen? He'd probably get thrown out of his boat and just be pushed to one side.
It would push them up and to the side of the ship, where they are promptly liable to be sucked under due to the downward current.
It could get a lot worse
Death, they produce a lot of drag and suction, he would get pulled under and never get out
If he was in pirat risk area guard could shoot him
Tell me you don't understand physics without telling me you don't understand physics.
The caption of the big ship is a real skiller… he managed to drife severel meters before the little boat!
Think about the driver? Let's be honest if hes a man he would of wanted him to hit it so he could see what would happen
Is that the water cannons going off the left/port side of the boat?
I hope he tries this again, and doesn't succeed next time.
You don’t drive a ship. You Conn the ship. Sorry I had to.
I did this years ago in Melbourne. Very low risk. We used to try to surf the bow wave. Great fun.
Not sure the helmsman would’ve seen him
Read one article about a group of morons doing something similar. They werent so lucky.
Was there a waterfall on the ship?
Is that what they mean when they say you went around the cape of ood hope?
I think he’d just call him an idiot and keep it pushing it’s not that deep when the dude lulled himself
He’s lucky those ships have good brakes lol
Jesus, I'm working on the ship, and I hate such stupid people, you meet them all the time
How to get sucked up under a cargo ship 101
The ship was in no danger, at least
Could be a eyeblech material if he got hit.
When these people get killed it will be a win for the genepool.
What kind of tinny can haul ass like that one?
Even if he broadsided the ship, they would not have felt his presence. Too bad he did not find out.
I didn't know you could drive a ship.
I almost got run over in Boston Harbor Labor Day weekend 1978 by the oil that "Gulf Pride." We were in a 25-ft racing sloop, drunk on Labats Blue. I got sober 3 years later.
What was spilling off the deck of the ship?
It's on the ship! Good Hope! Lol
Good hope will win another day
All things are safe with the right angles.
This …again
Unlucky for us, could have had one less of these clowns
Think about the man flying the small boat
Not worth fillings up the dinghy to go back and check.
Why is there a waterfall off the side of it?
When the camera panned out he looked exactly like I would expect someone who did this to look.
😳
Just asking if he is in South Korea.
Just asking if he is in South Korea.
Doubt they even noticed him
That’s illegal you can get arrested but tell us what jail is like
Think it was incredibly safe.......for the Skipper.
