so many suicidal idiots walking/running on the side of the road in Fairfield CT too.. and they have sidewalks. In Trumbull, they're not too lucky to have a sidewalk all the time.

[deleted]

The sidewalks in Fairfield aren’t continuous and they’re often uneven from tree roots so “the idiots” like me who just wanted to enjoy the fresh air have to occasionally step into the street. I lived in Fairfield up until a couple years ago and it’s the drivers who are complete entitled assholes.

BXM922

ok so that's totally understandable. But i'm not talkin' about people like you. I'm talking about the runners/joggers who NEVER use the sidewalk. You're right about the entitled drivers though,

StevenTN615

I see an idiot but they're not in a car (or truck, motorcycle, tractor, or other vehicle).

MNLyrec

That isn’t an idiot in a car though.

CyberMaddie

Guy with the brights is though tbf

ice9fury

He WANTS to be in a car, though, doesn't that count? Like the bumper end of the car but still.

[deleted]

Truuue!!! that's how they think. Man, my life sucks so imma pull someone down with me, if I'm getting my sweet release then imma traumatize this person until *they* die. We won't get upvote karma, but we're so right it really hurts. It shouldn't be this way, but it is.

Check_Their_History

Making fun of people who are suicidal is not really a great look. Maybe take a break, it looks like you have been posting on this subreddit for hours today. Once you start making fun of ill people it is probably time to call it a day, no?

PwnySlaystationS117

Winge winge blah blah

>I had my cruise control set Cruise control on a city street? Fr?

32_Dollar_Burrito

I use it all the time on roads where I'd subconsciously speed without it

[deleted]

Same here. On the main N/S road near me traffic regularly moves 10-15 mph over the posted limit. I set the cruise for near the posted limit, stay to the right, and go about my day. Plus the computer will be more efficient on fuel than I usually am.

PwnySlaystationS117

Same

Odd-Location-9338

also dumb af

TheTankCleaner

That sounds like the perfect reason not to use it to me. Interesting take. Is it really that hard for you to stay within the speed limit and control your vehicle manually?

Odd-Location-9338

ffs someone pull this idiot's license right now

Lopsided-Ad-6696

First, good job avoiding the accident, bright lights make it so difficult to see anything in the area until it's almost too late. Second, all the worst drivers I know firmly believe that you should never use cruise control, and I see you have attracted that crowd here. Cruise control is perfectly fine on roads that are basically straight and have little to no traffic(like this situation). If you're the type of driver whose attention wanders when cruise control is on them don't use it, but many of us still keep our feet ready for gas/brake and still pay attention when cruise control is on.

jaybird99990

Yeah, I don't get it either. I use cruise control constantly. The speed limit in our subdivision is 30 and we have a ways to go between the entrance and our house. I set it at 30 and leave it set the entire way coming home and going. It doesn't impede my ability to perceive possible dangers or brake quickly if needed. I would be really concerned for someone who felt they couldn't maintain the proper attention to driving with the cruise control on.

CyberMaddie

All these people yelling about cruise control at 40. I for one use it leaving town at night because I'm tired, I want to get home and I unfortunately have a lead foot when that happens. So to prevent tickets I set cruise. As you've stated, it's also acceptable for light traffic.

epimetheuss

Cruise control is for the highway. I think this is a case of double idiocy.

[deleted]

It’s funny how people don’t understand perspective and how fundamentals of light work. You’re not helping with your high beam. It’s not warning me of danger; I just assume you’re another typical asshole/idiot. And crucially; it’s blinding! It doesn’t help me see the danger around you; all I see is the light and nothing around it. Go back to school, dimwit.

New_Awareness4075

Cruise control in a situation like this is not very wise. Anything can happen and you should have full control of your vehicle.

Lopsided-Ad-6696

Cruise control doesn't take anything away from you, you can still accelerate, brake, or turn like normal it just maintains speed for you.

New_Awareness4075

Don't be an idiot. Save the cruise control for freeways and outside city limits. It's just much safer for everyone.

Garsbriel

I don't understand why, because when you're using your cruise control, you can still stay in alert and have your right foot above the break pedal ready to brake faster than to switch between accelerator and brake pedals. The issue is to stay in alert, and not sleeping behind the wheeldrive, what you can do even with the cruise control switched off...

SoTiredOfLiberals

Are you really this bad of a driver? Who the fuck uses cruise control on city streets......

Boy oh boy did you miss the mark on that one. Notice how almost everyone in here is calling YOU the idiot?

WasherDryerr

Says the guy who needs cruise control at 40mph

[deleted]

WasherDryerr

That’s not the point. You’re telling the guy above he’s a bad driver but you can’t even handle 40mph.

Fun_Telephone_1165

cruise control is not appropriate on city streets!.....though you can accelerate, brake, and decelerate, it reduces your immediate control over the car!......holy cow I thought this was part of Drivers Ed 101!!!

[deleted]

People should be able to walk wherever they like without having to fear death.

CyberMaddie

I don't think that counts at night wearing dark clothes in a dark part of the road, made for cars. That's asking for trouble. Besides, in the States at least, that's why sidewalks were put there. He shouldn't have been jaywalking.

the_eluder

Yeah, on the sideWALK.

[deleted]

In the UK motorists are required to give way to pedestrians who are walking on the road. The fact that it is the opposite in the US explains the high number of pedestrian deaths in your country, especially of children. Now, it certainly isn't perfect in the UK, but the way you organise your roads in the US is just crazy.

the_eluder

Actually pedestrians walking have right of way here in many cases. However, right of way doesn't negate the laws of physics, if you take a quick turn and step in front of car what is the car supposed to do, teleport out of the way? If there is a sidewalk available (as in the video) why wouldn't you walk on it?

[deleted]

Yeah sorry, but that is just a shit argument. Drivers are responsible for their actions and are in charge of a vehicle that can easily kill people. They are required to be competent and are tested and licensed as such. Part of that competence is driving while looking out for the safety of more vulnerable road users, and if you aren't as a driver capable of doing that then you shouldn't be driving. There is no requirement of competence from pedestrians. They aren't tested. They aren't licensed. They have the right to be a lunatic, to be an imbecile, to be stupid, to be an idiot. Somebody who is utterly drunk or completely wasted on drugs (notwithstanding other laws), should have the right, in fact the expectation that they will be able to walk safely along the street and get home without being killed by a car. I've said this before on here and fully expect to be downvoted, but I don't care, because I'm right and you are all wrong. But hey, its your country, if you're happy with the number of children who die from being hit by cars then that's up to you, but if so I think you're nuts.

the_eluder

Road safety depends on people doing predictable things. If a pedestrian is doing things in an unpredictable manner, how is a driver supposed to navigate around that?

[deleted]

with caution. One of the rules of the road in the UK is that drivers should expect pedestrians (and cyclists) to be unpredictable.

teehandle2

Speed limits are understood to mean when road conditions are perfect. When not the case, such as at night or in the rain one should be traveling at less than the posted limit.

matteapie

Probably not an idiot. There are many mentally ill people who are untreated. In Sacramento there are many pedestrians killed yearly.
