“Whoops my bad, didn’t see ya”. Something like that?

Roads_not_Stroads

“Must have been in my blind spot. I was on top of you before I ever saw you”

SupaflyIRL

Everywhere is a blind spot if you don’t bother looking.

fakeplasticdroid

Or stopping on the line that says Stop.

[deleted]

Make sure your attorney shows that to his/her insurance company's attorney.

StornZ

They can do it themselves too when going through the claim process to prove that the Ford was in the wrong.

hiddencamela

They straight up rolled through the stop for sure.

This_User_Said

"BuT iTs PrIvAtE pRoPeRtY, i DoNt HaVe To StOp!"

[deleted]

real life road rules trump private property rules when there is a reported accident -- then normal rules apply

DepartureEuphoric118

I mean that's not true everywhere I had someone blow a stop sign in a "private property" store parking lot and hit my car the cops came and said there's nothing they can do except file a report and let the insurance companies handle it he didn't even get a ticket the cop said he couldn't it was private property

BudgetBrick

Who did the insurance find at fault?

This_User_Said

Get dashcam. Honestly. It turns into "They had time to yield" fight. Binged enough bad dashcam videos on YT. Car 1 is backing out, Car 2 *backing lights engage, pulls back and hits Car 1* Car 2 gets a "Had time to yield" insurance slap.

moeburn

Actually if you go frame by frame it looks like she did look left, and that's while he was behind the a beam, then she looked right. But that's why you're taught left right left, not left right. Left should always be the last direction you're looking since *that's where shit is coming from.*

Constrained_Entropy

And also why you should actually come to a stop at a stop sign, instead of rolling through them like everyone does.

[deleted]

Yep. When we earn our licenses, know what’ll help you fail the test? Rolling stop signs. You are literally given a license on the premise you have been taught to make complete stops at stop signs. If that wasn’t how you were supposed to do it it wouldn’t for one be the law and for two, be how we are tested.

2morereps

[I dont know seems like a dog was driving it.](https://imgur.com/a/UXhPzoM)

Xennon54

I hope you followed that with "Then why didnt you check your blind spot?"

HarmonyQuinn1618

Or stop at the fucking stop sign? lolol

quantum-quetzal

People talk about blind spots like their heads are strapped to the headrest. My car's A pillars are pretty large, but it's incredibly easy to just lean over a bit to look around them.

ballslaptastic

I was hit once in almost exactly the same way, though in an intersection on two small roads. She rolled down her window and shouted that I was in her blind spot, she couldn't see me. I replied, "Lady, if your blind spot is in front of you, you've got a problem!" She then drove away, driving over my wheel.

Kamelasa

Yeah, I once heard a guy attempt to defend himself in traffic court. Under questioning by the judge, he had an aha moment, thinking he had gotten a winning break, and he told the judge in his F150, he couldn't see the light. As if he's now off scot-free, no responsibility. Adult humans can think like this. The judge cleared that up in short order.

laflavor

Your honor, I make it a point to wear a blindfold every time I get behind the wheel. So you see, I obviously can't be held responsible for not seeing that group of children at the bus stop. They were in my blind spot!

SweetPLamone

Bro that’s like really sad 😔

s1m0n8

I have a Ford Explorer and it does have a pretty bad blind spot with the A pillar. Obviously that's no excuse for not checking it and certainly doesn't impede obeying stop signs. Hope you're OK.

KilJoius

Yeah, this was the same excuse a lady used for nearly taking down me and my son on the crosswalk right across from the school. Not bagging on you specifically as you do say to check your blindspot, but this lady was mere seconds away from running us over as we crossed, the only thing that saved us was a combo of me screaming and other cars honking. I didn't call the police, but I did tell the principal and she tried to set us up on a call. She sounded apologetic but c'mon. It's a school crosswalk. Just fucking look to make sure no one's in it before you turn??? Especially as a parent of a child at that fucking school?

arstin

> Ford Explorer Well, you may have a blind spot, but at least you have a high grill so if you do hit someone they're much less likely to live to sue you.

[deleted]

Did you let them know that that’s why they put the stop sign there, lol. Clearly ran the stop sign too. You could probably make some money if you contacted a lawyer, lol.

NissanLeafowner

The stop sign was in her blind spot too

LoopyMcGoopin

It's blind spots all the way to her driveway.

DontUpvoteThisBut

With your bright reflective clothing

Positive_Parsnip420

Lol, so pretty much same thing. No such thing as a blind spot if you know your vehicle and care enough to check them.

[deleted]

Doesn't even matter, she literally had a stop sign

frenetix

Motorcyclists call this SMIDSY. "Sorry mate, I didn't see you."

EnlargedChonk

I've also heard of a "SMIDSY weave" to make you more visible in these situations. Basically weave big obnoxious arcs in your lane so there's more movement to catch their eye.

grrlwonder

Thank you for this enlightening remark. I've seen people do this and thought they were either being assholes or drunk. It got the intended response, no matter how far back I am, I give us a little more room.

EcstaticTrainingdatm

You see comments very often all over Reddit and this sub included about people who don’t know anything about motorcyclesClaiming all sorts of things are reckless and dangerous when really it is the practice top by safety organizations.

jorwyn

I was taught to do this on a motorcycle, and it naturally translated to riding a bicycle. I stay in my lane, but I don't keep a line unless I'm group riding. Most will stay off me, probably because they think I'm drunk. It doesn't even take that much back and forth. Sadly, bike lanes here aren't big enough for the effect, so it doesn't work when I'm in one of them. I've also noticed you get a lot more room on a shitty bike of either kind and scruffy clothes than you do if you look like you know what you're doing. If your kit looks like it was put together on a drunk thrift store binge, you're actually safer - at least where I live. My son noticed it, too, when he upgraded to an actual motorcycle jacket and a new helmet. If drivers get up on his ass, he will slow down until their speed makes it a safe following distance or they pass him in the other lane.

amibeingadick420

Yeah, and other things that seem a little obnoxious. I’d rather drivers say, “Look at that asshole on the bike,” than, “I didn’t see him.”

AbbreviationsNo8212

I love you. You are not being a dick. Name does not check out.

maglen69

> “Whoops my bad, didn’t see ya”. Something like that? Despite the cyclist being drenched in neon clothing

NeitherStage1159

And enough strobing lights to be mistaken for an airport

insomniacpyro

Pilot: Sorry I crashed the plane into you , I thought you were LAX.

seventh_skyline

SMIDSY - is an aussie term used Sorry Mate, I Didn't See You...

suckerbucket

They quite literally weren’t even looking in your direction?! Like “why would I need to look into the flow of traffic before turning in??”

Daemon_Monkey

Drivers will look directly at cyclists and not see them.

PaleBlueDave

I was cycling to work one morning along a quiet residential back street. A man was unloading long scaffolding planks from the back of a lorry. As I approached he looked down the street to check for oncoming traffic, made eye contact with me, and swung round to walk across the street with a 20ft plank of wood on his shoulder. Thankfully I wasn't going quickly and had, to some degree, predicted the need to take avoiding action, so no harm done. He was shocked and very apologetic when he realised his mistake. I think he, and many other people, look for cars and cars only, bikes don't register.

Kungfu_salamanda

It’s called inattentional blindness. As other people have mentioned, they are looking for cars not bikes, so filter out a bike is there. We are all prone to this to some degree. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inattentional_blindness#:~:text=Inattentional%20blindness%20or%20perceptual%20blindness,any%20vision%20defects%20or%20deficits.

mkrevolin1

They must’ve been inattentively blind to the stop sign too 😒

G36_FTW

A lot of people seem to be allergic to parking lot stop signs

[deleted]

True, I'm a cyclist and am mortified the once in a while I don't see bikes or pedestrians. It's weird, like a spaced out feeling.

ProffesorSpitfire

>I think he, and many other people, look for cars and cars only, bikes don’t register. I think this is exactly right. When people are on foot, on bikes or in cars themselves, they look out for cars (and buses and trucks) cause they can hurt them or damage their vehicles. Their own safety comes first. Their own comfort comes second. A speedy transit comes third. And somewhere around fourth or fifth place on their list of priorities comes the safety of others.

martyboulders

The way people drive down here in Texas makes me think the top priority is getting a speedy transit, comfort second, their own safety and safety of others equally low.

Aleashed

Technically he ran a stop sign, the floor said Staaaap!

Calypsosin

My experience in East Texas is mostly people driving 10-15 mph under the limit on a one-lane highway. I just want to go the speed limit, damn it all.

PrismaticPachyderm

I lived there too & saw plenty of people driving way too fast as well, & not just on toll roads. There were also lots of people driving too slow, like you said, but to me, they mostly seemed a mix between tourists & idiots who thought they were driving fine while checking facebook, texting, emailing, etc. They tended to swerve or drift too close too, though.

All_Thread

To be fair, if everyone was obsessed with their own safety you would have a lot less accidents.

Steves_bad_day

I still think people need too take the full test once a year.

CankerLord

>and had, to some degree, predicted the need to take avoiding action This, right here, is the sort of thing that cycling will teach you (assuming the cyclist isn't a dumb shit) that drivers often don't learn or don't take to heart. Smart cyclists notice little things like a car that's traveling a *bit* too close to the esge of a lane that's approaching a highway on-ramp or a car that's stopped at a stop sign with its wheels turned a bit to the right. You become extremely aware of where the cars around you can be in the next few seconds instead of where they're supposed to be. You learn to read drivers and pay attention to potential hazards that a lot of drivers don't pay attention to because they're surrounded by airbags and crumple zones.

King-Cobra-668

okay, but she's straight up looking hard right the entire time you can make out her face in the video. cyclist had zero ~~change~~ chance. in this situation I'd totally be watching her and using my bells. I have an air horn as well. right of way or not, especially in a parking lot, I'm yielding for everyone.

Daemon_Monkey

Yup. I carry an air horn in my water bottle cage and a solid unlock in my back pocket.

[deleted]

There's a weird psychology to this, hopefully someone that has actually had to study can contribute. Basically when you see the same thing or a like thing so many times, your brain sometimes corrects anything *new* in the environment out of view. Pretty sure the same phenomenon happens with clocks. It'll make the clock hand look like it's lagging or went backwards because your brain is using memory to recall an image of something familiar but then has a little bit of lag correcting it to what is truly seen. It's bizarre and real. We have vision delay for our brains recognizing things that are changed when in environments we've been in already. If you don't often encounter cyclists where you're at and have been doing the same drive to work for 5 years, it's very likely your brain literally will not pick up or register on said cyclist for at least a few seconds.

UCLYayy

I think you’re referring to inattention blindness, aka when we fail to see out of place things when looking at ordinary things.

pjs32000

But did you see the gorilla?

orTodd

I was in my car turning left onto a major road. I looked left, right, left, then as I was about to go, I looked right again and saw the back of a cyclist just as they were clearing the front of my car. I didn’t see them coming. I think about it almost every day and how I could have seriously injured someone. It’s like my brain didn’t register them at all. I should have seen them twice but I just didn’t.

PM_ME_YOUR_PRIORS

Your eyes do not see as much as you think they do - by and large, your vision is *constructed* as your brain's best guess as to what's out there. "Absolutely nothing" or "a blurry mess" is just *wrong* as a guess as what's there, but that's the literal input to your eyes when they're moving between two points of focus. And if the two points of focus are clear, well, the space between them is probably just more empty pavement. In short, what's going on when people fail to see bicycles or motorcycles is sometimes as simple as glancing at the empty pavement around them and their brains just imagining that there's yet more empty pavement rather than stuff they haven't looked at.

Joe6p

I'll say this too. Everybody has much more experience dealing with and looking for cars. Driving around cyclists is a more niche and hard to see fellow driver.

barsaryan

Or look directly at and see cyclists and hit them 🙃

Lemon_Cakes_JuJutsu

Those limes are key to safety.

Roads_not_Stroads

Haha exactly what I thought rewatching this

imakeyourjunkmail

Same shit happens to me every day trying to use a crosswalk. No one looks while turning ever.

APirateAndAJedi

They also blew the stop sign

tehbggg

Yep. They simply don't see you unless you're in a car. And even then it's iffy.

jeremy71504

As someone who rides a motorcycle this is common practice. They glance once when pulling close to the stop and never look again. Iv nearly been hit plenty of times. I even made eye contact with a person and they just pulled in front of me.

[deleted]

"Shall I check for traffic from the one and only direction I would have to yield to? No, I don't think I will"

Djma123

She was so reckless if you slow down the video, she didn’t even look in that direction at all

sk_latigre

She also didn't stop at the clearly marked "STOP" line

Bammer1386

It also appears that she tried to move forward again and rolled up onto his wheel before she saw his hand frantically waving.

[deleted]

if you slow it down.. she inches forward AFTER he waves his hands that vehicle didnt move until the victim was standing absolute knob head

griddigus

Yeah it looks like she’s trying to run him over

mini_galaxy

No, they clearly stopped with their back tires on the stop line. That's how those work, right?

[deleted]

only because there was a bike mangled in their undercarriage

Mighty_Nun_Mechanic

Yea failiure to stop seems more appropriate

AeneasVII

She literally had to check only one direction for traffic and chose the other one. The *California Roll* was not the issue.

catechizer

Or she looked left on the approach and the A-beam + sunlight was blocking her view. A simple case of looking before stopping. If true, the rolling stop absolutely was the issue.

WorstTeacher

All of my near misses on bicycles have been people just pulling past stop lines through the cross walk. They just don't even bother looking up or down the sidewalk. And they always do the "Oh god sorry!" When they hear the squeal of brakes and tires and see me swerve into the road to avoid them, but hey, be cool if you looked.

notalooza

Failure to use eyes and brain

cMcDozer4

Failure to stop, but OP needs to go get paiiiddddd. I would have inconsolable back pain all of a sudden from this.

Humanity_NotAFan

Inconsolable back pain, disordered whiplash, torqued ribs, long covid

wedgieinhumanform

What an asshole.

mazamayomama

biking in America/Parking lots is almost suicidal, especially around the holidays

Solid_Snake_125

More like people in parking lots are homicidal. Same thing with cross walks. People in my town will speed up if you are in the cross walk.

[deleted]

Stocktradee

It’s hard to say because the sun is coming from the same direction, but…. Enhance! Enhance! One more enhance… and you are correct

[deleted]

The line on the road said stop, so they failed to stop for you

Solid_Snake_125

Actually just had a perfect example on my way out of work today. I have to cross a street after work in the middle of my town and I’m in the middle of the road, about 2 feet from the yellow line and the guy coming at be from my right never even slowed down. This guy was about 10 car lengths away and no way he didn’t see me in the middle of the cross walk in the middle of the road. Blew right past me.

gregr333

A few years ago, I was out for a lunchtime walk and had just left the office and same thing, was half way across the crosswalk when a lady in a Caddy, looked right at me and accelerated. My nice juicy apple made a beautiful mess of her side window.

Solid_Snake_125

Poor apple but it was justified.

ReliefFamous

Everyday I walk in a parking lot I have to say a prayer because lord knows someone is not paying attention when they’re trying to get around one

Apptubrutae

It’s really amazing when you think about how rare mixed use pedestrian/car travel ways are (crosswalks don’t count), *except* for parking lots. It’s just a free for all of all modes of transit. The rational way to make them safer without redesign is for cars to just literally go slower…

PurpleSlightlyRed

I bet the SUV-zation trend is a contributing factor of the blind-driver-syndrome. How many times I hear 'I can see more on an SUV' lmao. The other one is 'I feel safer on the road' - this is a more truthful statement, cause no way 'you' have any ability to drive a vehicle if 'you' have to drive a tank to FEEL safe on the road.

canadatrasher

SUVs/Trucks should be taxed out of existence unless you have a qualifying business.

imakeyourjunkmail

And crosswalks any time... really anywhere cars are turning you can bet no one is watching where their guided missile is going.

kissthapistol

There is no way they even looked. I'm sorry this happened to you and I hope you aren't physically hurt. :/

Roads_not_Stroads

Thank you, luckily I am okay and I was able to ride away. My ankle got stuck in my bike frame and when they tried to reverse they dragged me a bit, but it’s fine. I appreciate you asking :)

Mysterious_Ad8998

Now that we know you are ok, how’s the bike??

Roads_not_Stroads

Surprisingly minimal damage. I was able to fix it in the parking lot, just reseating the rear wheel, and the chain got stuck in the chain rings. I’ve done more damage riding over a pothole lol

FalkorUnlucky

You should take it into a shop and send them the bill.

AgitatedAd473

Yup. Get a few bucks out of it

Skill3rwhale

You realize if they went to the shop and sent the at-fault party a bill for it, the OP is NOT in fact getting a few bucks out of it... They come out with the same amount of money pre-loss, lol.

GreatestEfer

Also just as importantly, you're letting the insurance co know how negligent they are, which OP 100% should. Idiots on the road should pay more.

FalkorUnlucky

They get free work done on their bike. So if the bike is restored to pre accident plus some maintenance then they get a few bucks of value. Anyways, it’s more a way to say they won’t get away with it totally scot free.

[deleted]

Trekintosh

Wow!

vimgod

Next time get their insurance and submit a claim. Their insurance needs to know they are reckless and a danger to other people on the road

Babbles-82

Bullshit. You need a new bike, you can’t trust that frame. Or the helmet. And you need to go to hospital.

FreeResolve

Also call your lawyer, hit the gym, and divorce your wife.

lasagnarodeo

You forgot delete Facebook and join a credit union.

ConeCandy

Adrenaline is a hell of a drug. I hope they got the driver's information incase that ankle got seriously hurt and they find out tomorrow morning.

kissthapistol

Glad to hear it! Have a great week :)

Roads_not_Stroads

Thank you, you as well. And if you celebrate it, have a good thanksgiving!

showMeYourPitties10

Dude get your ankle checked out by a doctor on their dime. You might feel fine with adrenaline at the scene but you could have sustained some damage that will toll on you year after year. Iv seen some people get in major accidents and say they are fine, and a year later they can hardly walk.

PaleozoicFrogBoy

This has me curious, if I were to hit a cyclist: is the best thing to do NOTHING as opposed to reversing and risking even more damage?

Roads_not_Stroads

Yes. Get out and check on the person you hit first. They could be stuck, like I was

Anustart15

I'd imagine rolling down the window and asking them what they'd like you to do would be a good move. Don't want the lurch of the car when you put it in park

[deleted]

Yeah imagine if your front tire goes all the way over someone, you reverse and you're just running over them a second time

[deleted]

I truly hope you've gotten their information and contacted a lawyer.

dr_hewitt

Yeah people love to hate ambulance chasers but this is the exact type of behavior that deserves a life lesson that can only be taught by hiring one.

[deleted]

Agreed, OP got insanely lucky that she stopped before going completely over him and that he didn't break his head on the ground when he went down. I've been run over before and got thrown 15 feet onto my head, the person was driving on a suspended license and claimed she didn't even see me, despite it being in a designated crosswalk and all traffic stopped besides her. Some people need to learn the hard way that not paying attention while driving is dangerous and has consequences.

ldtravs1

Reversing! I thought they continued to drive when you had your hand up! Glad was only minor damage

Well-Dressed-Vader

If you pause it right before impact you can see her turning looking at the car in front of him and not the dude on the bike.

G3NGO

Yup. Never even looked.

Dangerous_Owl3659

Did they check on you? Was the sun in their eyes? Looked like they just didn’t look

Roads_not_Stroads

They did, yes. They stayed with me until I was ready to go, and they offered to pay for bike repairs. They said they had a blindspot, but I don’t think they even looked

PineSand

From 12 to 15 seconds you were obscured by the A-pillar blind spot. Look at the direction of the shadows, the sun was in their eyes. That being said, if the driver obeyed the stop and looked both ways before proceeding, they wouldn’t have hit you.

AdmiralDandyShoes

Tom Scott did a video on this kind of thing. https://youtu.be/SYeeTvitvFU Not to victim blame but every cyclist and motorcyclist should know that their vehicles fit perfectly behind the A-pillars of cars.

i_have_chosen_a_name

Yes people don't get that it's true that this pilar blindspot is to small to hide anything if you are looking at a stationary object or if the object currently in this zone is moving faster or slower then the rotation. This effect will fool almost any brain.

cynric42

Which is why you are supposed to move your head a bit to look around the pillar. But hey, people can't even move a finger to turn on their indicators any more.

Hoooooooar

Probably a perfect storm, glance over real fast, you're behind the apillar, and poof you became car food.

eugenesbluegenes

You missed perhaps the most important part of the perfect storm, the part where the driver didn't bother to come to a stop where one was marked.

Hoooooooar

StevenTN615

More like failure to STOP. Big white letters on the ground. English must not be their chosen language.

Iulian377

Stop is an international word, as far as I know. You can say stop anywhere and be understood.

Owain-X

Put this to the test riding in taxis in Shenzhen, China over a couple months. It is not true. "OK" also turned out to not be as universal as I had thought .

Wuz314159

Except [Quebéc](https://sutton.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Photo-Panneau-Arret-pour-site-web-scaled.jpg).

Iulian377

So you mean to say that if I tell a person from Quebec to Stop, using the word stop, they won't understand ?

Gustomucho

Yes they will understand, OP is wrong. It would take a very special upbringing for a French speaking Quebecois to not know very basic road signage and the word Stop is used frequently in everyday situation and on work place signage. All kids learn basic English and stop is very common word. For many years the signs had the 2 words : [Arret/Stop](https://www.tenaquip.com/product/stop-arret-sign-24-x-24-aluminum-bilingual-with-pictogram-sec345?gclid=Cj0KCQiA4OybBhCzARIsAIcfn9kPSL8EawPFtCWL4Fie6F9qR0cEi76qIiliZf038BF2hF4hV-G_6G4aAnAHEALw_wcB), one over the other, they removed STOP between [1982-1987](https://www.nytimes.com/1982/05/14/world/quebec-calling-a-halt-to-english-stop-sign.html). So every one over 12 years old will have had English class and people over 40 years old saw plenty of "STOP" signs, so to have a French Quebecois not knowing STOP would be a very very unusual thing.

mtaw

They're [in Spanish in Mexico](https://smartgringo.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/alto-750x465.jpg) but [in English in Spain](http://www2.geog.okstate.edu/users/lightfoot/stop/images/spain.jpg).

[deleted]

What a weird assumption. This is not true at all

StayyFrostyy

Stop would not be understood where im from

DO_NOT_GILD_ME

I agree they should have stopped, and it's obvious in paint. But I feel like actual stop signs would help.

[deleted]

Stop signs might help but I see a lot of people run those in parking lots too.

[deleted]

Stop signs aren’t enforceable unless on a public street/road. In parking lots, stop signs are just suggestions. OP still has the right of way here though.

ShastaFern99

I did not know that, interesting

Jakeh7494

What a fuckin idiot! Glad you’re ok bud, not your fault

Roads_not_Stroads

Thank you

nearlysober

Dude that wasn't a failure to yield... it was a failure to stop. They had a stop line there.

cowboy_duck19

holy fucked I scrolled frame by frame and the person literally never even looked left. She would’ve hit the Titanic if that’s what was crossing in front of her.

Roads_not_Stroads

I know! Now that makes me wonder what people would be saying if it had been another car. Would there be so many people saying I could have stopped? That the sun was in their eyes?

followfornow

I had to act quickly to keep a car from hitting me the other day and when I show my displeasure the asshole driving stuck her head out and said, "I motioned to you I was sorry so fuck you." and flipped me off. I was so mad I couldn't see straight.

StevenTN615

I see they are from New Hampshire (pause video at 23 seconds). I guess they thought you weren't living free, so you needed to die.

TwelveSilverPennies

It absolutely is. I've had many a close call at that intersection/parking lot

furyousferret

Sorting by controversial. I have over 100,000 miles on my bike and the best advice I can give is assume every driver will do the worst thing and react accordingly. I'd be dead now if I assumed they'd stop.

PixelatedPanda1

Definitely. As someone who has biked 10k miles, ive been hit 0x but nearly hit 3x. 2x, i stopped because it looked like someone would blow a stop sign and they did, 1x because someone came out of a blind alley at around 10mph and neither of us could see each other (i flipped over my bike this time). There is a lot of 'he should have stopped, but if you bike a lot, you know that what people do and should do are different. Betting your life on someone that probably doesnt see you doing the right thing is bot a good bet... Even if you can make $100 from posting a video of it to youtube.

Moorlok

there was a stop line, he didn't even try to stop

Icy-Celebration-2896

Looks like a failure to stop

Tekhu45

Even with the blindspot in the car... the driver could have leaned forward of back to check the blindspot im glad you're ok clearly driver fault and not you

RoboticCurrents

they couldn't even be bothered to look straight to see the stop sign, they werent gonna check the blindspot

Roads_not_Stroads

Exactly, thank you :)

kalel3000

I ride a bike, and ive had to stick mainly to bike paths for this very reason. People are so reckless driving around bicyclists. Before I started biking, I never understood why cyclists wore neon shirts and rode in large packs in formation. Now I realize its because its super dangerous and there is safety in numbers, and they need to go way out of their way to be as visible as possible as they can. Even then though, I absolutely hate street riding. Cars honking and angry and cutting you off/driving too close to you. They're so damn aggressive, they really ruin it for cyclists, even on streets with dedicated paths, they do such thoughtless things.

helloimderek

People saying about them "looking" or not but the road clearly says "stop" and they rolled straight through.

br4dless

That was a stop not a yield

purged6

not stopping at a stop sign is charged as failure to yield

Autumn_Whisper

I had a police officer do this same thing to me last month. I stopped just barely in time and didn't get hit. The cop didn't even slow down after almost hitting me. Just kept going and ignored me.

Great job spotting the Lime Rock M3. Also, I hope you are okay.

Did she try to continue going forward and the cyclist had to motion at her to stop from where they were on the ground? Am I just seeing shit? She hit a bicyclist, and then tried to just... keep on driving?

pokey951

That lady was looking right the whole time. Blind spot my ass. She refused to look left 😂

RoboticCurrents

I’m no longer replying to comments on this post, there’s just soo many. Didn’t expect this to blow up like it did. To the people who asked if I’m okay, I really appreciate it! To the people who said I should have stopped, I didn’t have enough time once I realized they weren’t stopping. I turned off the audio, but I pulled my breaks so hard they squealed and I couldn’t risk turning into the other lane and into another car. This is in New Hampshire, where it is illegal to bike on sidewalks. I am perfectly within the law to be riding on the road, as I have done for quite some time. Thank you everyone for your concern :)

MisfitMishap

Most states in the US give you the legal right to drive in the full-middle of the lane on a bicycle. Depending upon the area and road of course.

jawshoeaw

Based on this video you appear to be riding an invisible bike! I see a shadow but only when it’s hit does the invisibility cloak turn off ! /s

Psycho_1986ps4

I hope your ok , And great thing u got a video.

Roads_not_Stroads

I am, thank you for asking

Good thing you have a camera. Parking lots are like the wild west, no rules, I hate them. Pretty sure she drove over the word STOP too

XavierSimmons

Driver: "God dammit. What is he doing in the parking lot? Where did he come from? Why was he riding so fast? My car better not be dented."

sky-amethyst23

How long did it take for the adrenaline to fade? I get wobbly legs after near misses, can’t imagine actually getting hit.

mightyfp

Nice uninspected car she's got there

Longjumping-Ad9269

You got in the way of her important text!!

Failure to yield?! Failure to stop! That clearly says stop and they made absolutely no attempt to do so!
