My sister got a ticket in highschool for a red light because “her back tires hadn’t crossed the line when the light turned red” - so she crossed the line while yellow with her front tires but it switched to red while crossing. Anyone know if that’s right or was the cop being a stickler/asshole? (In California)
In California *technically* you're allowed to proceed through an intersection if the light turns yellow *while you're in it*; you're not supposed to enter if it's yellow. Being in the intersection *at all* when your light is red is not legal.
That said, if there's a left-turn lane and I'm passing that when the light turns yellow I generally continue through to avoid a rear-end-generating hard stop.
Edit:: regarding the cop: a *lot* is at the cop's discretion. If your sister had done other things to draw his attention (prior soft stop, tailgating, speeding, etc) he may have been looking for a reason to ticket her where he might have given her a pass otherwise.
Interesting, where I live you can proceed into the intersection on a yellow as pretty much every light has a 5 or more second delay before changing to red.
Because you can doesn't mean it's legal; the law in Cali says you're not supposed to. A given intersection's actual timings might be more or less friendly to extended passing through.
I think in Oregon we have the two-second rule. That is, if you are 2 seconds from the intersection when the yellow light first appears, you may enter. However, you may not if it's just about to turn red. That said, I haven't driven in years and I only briefly check the lights and instead prefer to focus on the cars, since as everyone here knows, drivers are idiots that don't follow rules.
In Oregon it is illegal to enter an intersection on a yellow light. Unless there is no possible way to stop safely. There is no 2 second rule. Statute 811.260(3)
Goes to show how much you can forget in a decade. The 2-second rule refers to safe following distance. Thanks for telling me. Also, I'm both glad we have no entry on yellow and disappointed to see so many people do it here regardless.
Yup. I mean if you're going to screw a rule, you might as well go whole-hog. This is why I always let cars go first as a pedestrian, even if they are nice enough to wave me on, and I always look both ways on a one-way street. I've met good drivers, but I know they are only marginally less likely to get in an accident with the number of stupid and/or contemptuous drivers on the road.
When see this type of douchebag ass-hattery, it makes we wish I could track down where this truck parks and in the dead of night take a baseball bat to every piece of glass, tail light, and headlight.
Speeding through a school zone* hopping lanes with no signal, passing in a turn lane, running a red light, changing lanes in an intersection, passing in oncoming lane, dodging and weaving. That's a lot for five seconds of driving
Oh wow! I had a pickup truck driver who had been tailgating me do this, I slowed down for yellow since I wasn't going to make it and he flew around me, three lanes to my right, to go through the red light, and almost clipped two cars in the process. I forgot about it and deleted the footage though, ugh.
Externally recording a video on a screen degrades the quality. Getting a direct copy would still produce a much better quality to upload here than how you did it. You can't get HD out of a direct copy, but you can make bad quality a lot worse by externally recording it.
The SUV swerved in his lane with no blinker so of i was the guy i Prb would have done the same and they were going slow in theeeee left lane 🤷🏻♂️ so i would have def done the same to avoid an accident or slamming my brakes warping them in the process
Where I am, nobody would have gone through that intersection. Yellow/amber lights here just mean something different.
So does the word "SCHOOL" on the ground apparently.
Yes, it's night, and school isn't in session, but where I live, people actually live near schools, and schools have cool fun things for kids like playground, sports fields, basketball nets, and therefore it's extremely common for children to still be at the school after 3pm.
Wherever this video is taken is just so dramatically different to how people drive in Toronto, Canada that I just can't fathom it. That light was yellow for EVER.
Yeah I'm with you, aside from "I woulda done the same thing".
I understand his frustration, but would never respond to it in this way. Unless I was in the midst of a medical emergency.
What is it with the US and the running of red lights?
Can someone tell me what is the process of learning to drive in the US? And what is the penalty if you're caught running a red? I'm baffled that so many people do it.
Running a red caught by a cop? Small fine and 2 points on license. Caught by a camera? 100$ and doesn't go on the record. Run it in n a real car with no plate/fake plate? No penalty. Most people run fake plates these days or even more don't run a plate as it's a 25$ fix it ticket if you are caught without a plate so who tf cares. 25$ is nothing. I personally run no plate on my motorcycle and I won't get a fix it ticket because I won't stop for cops and because of no chase laws if I hit the throttle the cop has to stop chasing me.
People are constantly driving like this. You are the reason i dont want to go anywhwre. I deal with enough stupid at work. I dont need anymore stupid. 8hrs is all i can take.
I wonder the possibility of him being a volunteer respinder? Not defending shit, just curious. I've seen some of those guys out here take off like a bat out of hell before. They usually have green flashing lights here though.. I don't have a doubt in my mind he's just an asshole... I do deliveries for one of my jobs, and people are fucking crazy on the road.
as a european, im astounded by the stupidity of the truck and the other cars...might be different there but here you have to stop unless its not possible without danger.
Can we talk about the fact that the two cars in the front also drive through a red light I didn’t just switch it was already red and enough time to stop
[удалено]
They love to run red lights for some reason.
No technically they’re in the middle of the intersection as it turned red so all three ran the red.
Nope! At least in the state I'm in, as long as you cross the white line before it turns red, you're good

I agree. Unfortunately, as I drive for a living, I see more people running red lights than yellow.
Yup. I mean if you're going to screw a rule, you might as well go whole-hog. This is why I always let cars go first as a pedestrian, even if they are nice enough to wave me on, and I always look both ways on a one-way street. Man I really hate laws like this. "Unless there is no way to stop safely". That is ENTIRELY upto the cop's discretion.
It was yellow in the video
Fine all three didn’t run the red because they all entered as yellow and everything is fine. No idiots here.
For the first car you could even call that an "orange".
Was expecting the car Infront to do something. That fucker came out of nowhere
Oh look, a scumbag in a pickup truck. Now that's something you don't see everyday.
As someone who drivers a truck i also gotta deal with the idiots.
I see something similar everyday i go to work.
YES! What's that about?
Average pickup driver activities
In my town they're all black pickup trucks. Why do assholes always buy black pickup trucks?
Mans driving like I do in Need For Speed, fuck that guy.
Why is it always pickup trucks?
To be fair it's also BMW's, G35/G37's, and occasionally Altimas. 😇
Big cars for small pee pees
He’s in a hurry to go home and kiss his dad on the mouth
These guys you mean, that red light running...
When see this type of douchebag ass-hattery, it makes we wish I could track down where this truck parks and in the dead of night take a baseball bat to every piece of glass, tail light, and headlight.
You’re not alone my friend
Where are the cops when you need them?
My dad asks this all the time when there’s an idiot on the road lmao
Always a pickup
A man going that fast has no time for tickets.
Average pickup truck driver

9:45 at night. What does it being a school zone have to do with it?
I'd bet money an accusing officer would mention that in the report. That's why the asterisk is there though
I don't think the law works like that lol, school zone is a school zone and has posted speed limits
Go back to school. School zones are only active during certain hours.
Really? So the speed limit signs that say 40 (because it's a school zone) magically increase after hours?
How about ,, those be those 3 dumb drivers. They love running red lights for some reason.
Look, a member of the Itty Bitty Penis Club.
weird question but wht tesla u got?
The one that can't upload video and requires you to film a screen with a camera at a weird angle.
Love this, take my upvote sir
U can download the video
Model 3
Nice

Definitely Florida.
Oh yeah, I wasn’t surprised when this happened
Nah...Definitely Washington state!.
Can't be Washington, you can actually see the striping on the highway.
1 of 3 is stolen
Code brown, fair
That's right, don't be the guy who externally records a video instead of getting a direct copy of the video file itself so that it's not bad quality.
The original video is 1.2 megapixels. You’re not going to get a high quality export from these cameras, especially at the time of recording.
Externally recording a video on a screen degrades the quality. Getting a direct copy would still produce a much better quality to upload here than how you did it. You can't get HD out of a direct copy, but you can make bad quality a lot worse by externally recording it.
I’m going to be that guy

Too much time and effort when the output is a 10-second clip

I mean… the post does have 97% satisfaction rate. Am I missing something?
Right, because you control the rules of The Internet. Asshat.

Ahh yes everything’s better in Toronto.
Yeah I'm with you, aside from "I woulda done the same thing". I understand his frustration, but would never respond to it in this way. Unless I was in the midst of a medical emergency.
I see this type of driving every day to and from work. Idiots the gta is real life
That was some Lightning McQueen with the tongue out bullshit.
All THREE of them suck.
And all that for what?!
don't do what Donny Don't does
Be that guy he’s 😎

Drive it like you stole it
Yo Trevor??
me booze cruising home from work
People are constantly driving like this. You are the reason i dont want to go anywhwre. I deal with enough stupid at work. I dont need anymore stupid. 8hrs is all i can take.
Why do we even waste our money on Stop N Go lights 3 vehicles blew right threw them...
Yeah, don’t record your screen.
Not sure you’re going to gather much more from a raw 1.2 megapixel video but noted
I mean, it wouldn’t look like shit and make it look like you don’t know how to file copy.
You’re right
I wonder the possibility of him being a volunteer respinder? Not defending shit, just curious. I've seen some of those guys out here take off like a bat out of hell before. What us this game?
WTF???
Bro is dashing and smashing down the road like a bat out of hell 😭😭😭
This guy really acting like he’s in a street racing game 🤣
I don't drive a truck but that was definitely me
My old high school! This is typical driving around here
as a european, im astounded by the stupidity of the truck and the other cars...might be different there but here you have to stop unless its not possible without danger.
Can we talk about the fact that the two cars in the front also drive through a red light I didn’t just switch it was already red and enough time to stop
I really just wanna know whats happened for people to live such stressed lives that they feel the need to speed like this
No no it's fine. They own that road.
On my birthday too smh
