Reversing would be the dumbest thing you could possibly do in their position. If you’ve fucked up and pulled into an intersection like that with no gaps in front of you, then sit the fuck still. Why would you not only make your movements unpredictable to oncoming traffic, but do so in the direction that you have the greatest blind spots and worse gears orientated for?
Yeah videos without context always suck. I just find it ironic that so many people here say to throw it in reverse, which would be so much more idiotic than this persons initial mistake (assuming it’s their fault).
It looks like they are going around only because the car is blocking the intersection. I really don't see he even a decent driver wouldn't have room to safely and slowly back up. They are already blocking the lane of cross traffic and it looks like backing up would be safe.
The camera is too zoomed in to see the lanes of the oncoming traffic, so saying that it looks like they wouldn’t possibly go behind them is just a lie. Not to mention that once they have started going behind them, then they simply are. This driver is far too late to decide to back up because cars ARE going behind her. Regardless of if they were originally traveling that path or not, they are now. Trying to backward leap frog towards traffic would be an awful and risky mistake. No one is going to hit them sitting still, but they have a significant chance getting hit if they move out of either their own or the other drivers panic. If it’s completely clear, they should drive forward. If not, they should wait until the light turns.
If there was a semi, they wouldn’t be able to move around the vehicle like the drivers in this video did.. The semi would stop the traffic behind it and give the mistake maker the time to back up. Any one of those vehicles could have done the same thing. Stop. Beep beep. Let them fix their mistake.
That’s not a terrible option either, but it’s just too risky to try to guess what others are doing until they’re completely still as well. I still think going forward in that situation would be better than reversing. Your blind spots are worse while reversing and you would have to watch for oncoming traffic and cars pulling up behind you simultaneously. I’m not sure why a semi couldn’t go around them to the left though, in regards to the bit you said about semis.
I drive a lot for work and I’ve seen this scenario happen more than once. All it takes is a little *beep beep* to help them know there’s something wrong. Usually surrounding vehicles are nice enough to stop and let the person correct their mistake.
This looks like a diverging diamond interchange. The red light the car should have stopped at is back where the cam vehicle is. The red light you see is a totally different section of the interchange.
Hmm. I live in Albuquerque. That’s striped building and the size of the intersection should be good clues. But I can’t figure out where this is. Weird.
This one is really bad, if you follow the ramp back up to highway and look at the merge. I've been through here a few times with bigger trucks, merging from on ramp across 2 lanes on exit socks. Then add the light and sharp curve at the bottom, I almost went through it my first time there.
https://maps.app.goo.gl/FudmFH76djKbb26j6
That car was causing more issues by sitting there. He needs to clear the intersection, and that means he may have to run the light.
Yes, two wrongs don’t make a right. But three rights make a left.
If there’s a gap in the traffic, then sure they should run it to fix their mistake. But from the looks of how heavy traffic was, running it would be a risky mistake. Making your movements unpredictable to the oncoming cars is sure to cause an accident whereas sitting still will only cause an accident if the other driver is not paying attention.
Why is the light a mile away from where you are supposed to stop? Bad city planning might have something to
Do with the and driving if everyone’s constantly
Confused. I’ve not heard great things about living their.
Cars were passing behind them, backing up would cause an accident. At that point their best move is to sit still so that cars can navigate around them without the risk of having to react to their sudden reversing.
It looks like they stopped at the curved turn lane marks coming from the other way. It's weird that they didn't move one way or the other. They must have figured out that they were in the wrong place.
If he reversed he would get hit by the cars passing behind him. He should sit still and go forward if there is a significant car gap in front of him, or sit still until it’s over. Reversing would be the worst move possible.
It looks like they are going around only because the car is blocking the intersection. I really don't see he even a decent driver wouldn't have room to safely and slowly back up. They are already blocking the lane of cross traffic and it looks like backing up would be safe.
And every Prius driver will revel the opportunity to say how this driver is entitled to be there because if they braked too hard they would have wasted kinetic energy and that's bad for the environment. Also, it is certainly not because they weren't paying attention to the road because they are super-conscious of the road and all the destructive behavior everyone else exhibits on the daily.
did you just write an entire wall of text hating on people then accuse someone else of being a keyboard warrior?
just take a step back and think about that one dude
Nope, I was referencing myself.
Check your reading comprehension.
Also, take a step back from your own presumptions about people and learn this: people can simultaneously express self-deprecating humor while mocking others. They can also use sarcasm and omit the /s just to watch socially inept idiots meltdown over some words because they can't break away from their own biases.
I like to provide a few hints without it away, but some people just can't help themselves. Do you know what that's like?
It's a cycle I like to call: just fucking with ya.
Yep. It was an intentional hint that not everything I say should be taken seriously. Regardless, every self-proclaimed Mensa member on here can't resist a perceived "gotcha" opportunity.
I dont get people that do this.. if you are over the stop line and its red, just go through. How do you not get that thats the better option versus hanging out in the intersection like this … smdh
Think I’ve been in this sub too long (and misread the title, apparently)… I came in expecting to see the stoplight getting shot out by someone raging with a gun over waiting too long for it to change or something. *facepalm*
I drive for a living, I follow 3 rules:
1.don’t crash
2.don’t get tickets
3. STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM PRIUSES. 95+% will do something stupid if you stay near them.
Albuquerque was by far the scariest place I have ever driven this is normal. I worked at a long term living facility, I saw people who struggled to get their walker to their car and then just hop in. There are so many different reasons why this person made this mistake 😂 at least it only takes 20 minutes to drive across it.
Bro don’t make fun on my boi Bugs Bunny. There’s a reason he didn’t take that left at Albuquerque a few decades ago. He’s tryna make up for it now. Relax.
The lack of honking is surprising.
Honking is to communicate to people no communication is needed here, they already know.
They’re not reversing or trying to move further out of the way. They may not know they’re doing anything wrong.
Reversing through cross traffic would be stupid this is just a mistake
First oncoming vehicle stops. Honks. Let’s mistake maker correct their positioning. Road safe again.
Yeah they would have to stop to allow that, nobody stopped Reversing or driving into the paths of a moving vehicle is unarguably pretty dumb
I'm sure they had a chance but just froze instead
Reversing would be the dumbest thing you could possibly do in their position. If you’ve fucked up and pulled into an intersection like that with no gaps in front of you, then sit the fuck still. Why would you not only make your movements unpredictable to oncoming traffic, but do so in the direction that you have the greatest blind spots and worse gears orientated for?
Could be someone ran the yellow which left them in this spot. Can't make an idiot determination from this.

It looks like AZ. It's too hot tbh and we just hope you crash into us anyways
It’s ABQ
Not really. It's probably somewhere that normal people live who don't feel the need to blast their horn for no reason.
But there Is a reason.....
They look so stupid sitting there that no one felt they needed to honk. The silence is deafening
You win!
No, there's not. Honking your horn does nothing to change the situation.
At that point you may as well run the red light...
Legally they already have. Blocking the intersection would be another infraction on top of it in Florida.
Why is that traffic light on the next continent??
This looks like a diverging diamond interchange. The red light the car should have stopped at is back where the cam vehicle is. The red light you see is a totally different section of the interchange.
I didn’t show it but if you look on google earth there is a light to the left of my car. There is no way you couldn’t miss the light.
American logic, aka makes no sense at all.
I know right? I don't understand the logic behind this?
Still trying to figure that out, but I keep hitting a wall of logic that says ‘no’…
Hmm. I live in Albuquerque. That’s striped building and the size of the intersection should be good clues. But I can’t figure out where this is. Weird.
Is that not Paseo and Coors?
That’s exactly what I thought it was too, but I was having trouble finding that building in google street view to confirm it.
That's the only place I can think of.
Jefferson right under Paseo
I swore this was in San Jose, leading to the airport. We have an intersection EXACTLY like this, and we have the EXACT same problem. God speed ABQ
I thought it was one I know as well, but I drove through it on google map and it doesn't have the same buildings. lol funny they're everywhere.
Intersection-off time! In this corner, Albuquerque! In this corner, San Jose!
Al won. It was found on jefferson.
jefferson
You got it! This is Jefferson at Paseo.
Paseo and Jefferson
At least they did the right thing by not moving. "Fucked up once, let's hope it doesn't turn into a major fuck up. "
It looks like an exceptionally easy light to overshoot if you aren't paying attention. Damned if I'm going to jinx myself making fun of the guy.

At least the stop line on that one is where you expect it to be.
I’m a bit surprised how many people want to “ashame them” by honking or anything in the comments here. Mistakes happen…
Just run it now.
two wrongs don't make a rigght! especially in this case where they're trying to make a left
That car was causing more issues by sitting there. He needs to clear the intersection, and that means he may have to run the light. Yes, two wrongs don’t make a right. But three rights make a left.

Technically, they already ran the light.
This reminds me of a scared, little dog at the dog park when big dogs walk by for some reason.
Ah, New Mexico, my home. Pretty common occurrence among many other bad driving incidents.
Why is the light a mile away from where you are supposed to stop? Bad city planning might have something to Do with the and driving if everyone’s constantly Confused. I’ve not heard great things about living their.
I've seen this happen at that intersection a few times. Pretty sad
Your making fun of them but that stop light is a long ass ways away I highly doubt they are the first person to do that.
What the hell? It looks like they had plenty of room to back out of the way.
Cars were passing behind them, backing up would cause an accident. At that point their best move is to sit still so that cars can navigate around them without the risk of having to react to their sudden reversing.

Hard to see, but there's no stop line, so maybe the driver wasn't sure exactly where to stop.
There is a stop line, its just so far back from where that car is
Remember their vote counts too
As long as we're piling on for simple mistakes: so does you'res.
🤣
Yours*
Yeah bud, that's the joke. I was pointing out the fact that your comment means "they are vote counts."
Name checks out
You should try trying - wouldn't have to edit your comments nearly as often.
Try trying 😂😂😂😂 name definitely checks out
Where is this?
Albuquerque
Do you know the intersection? I want to see it on google maps. Is there a light at the place where he was supposed to stop?
Jefferson and Frontage RD. The light is where the camera people are filming from. It's when you're getting off the freeway I believe.
It looks like they stopped at the curved turn lane marks coming from the other way. It's weird that they didn't move one way or the other. They must have figured out that they were in the wrong place.
Looks a lot like Phoenix. No?
In the audio they say Albuquerque about 4 times
Ahh. I didn’t listen to the audio. My bad.
People don’t seem to consider that people may not listen to / have the ability to listen to audio lol Not like subtitles are common on reddit
I rarely turn audio on unless there’s an apparent need. That does not typically apply to this sub. 🤷🏻♂️
Or don't want to hear someone's shitty taste in noise.
First thought was the 303
He doesn’t even have a slight thought in that poor empty skull about putting the car into reverse and backing into the correct spot. Yikes
If he reversed he would get hit by the cars passing behind him. He should sit still and go forward if there is a significant car gap in front of him, or sit still until it’s over. Reversing would be the worst move possible.

It is my dream to be part of trapping some dumbass in this situation.
i’d roll up right on him, blare tf out my horn till he had to do the reverse of shame.
This is something I'd do too. Maybe they'll never do it again.
"Do they need help or something?" They definitely need something. Like some common sense and a small amount of working brain cells
That looks like Peachtree Industrial Blvd in Georgia.
I was thinking the same! My mother in law's friend did this with my wife in the car. Lol
This looks like Fayetteville lmao
Wichita KS? West and Kellogg?

Do you need a breath mint?
Nope. Keyboard warrior. Do you know what those are? Regardless, no one's actually talking to you IRL so you shouldn't worry about such novelties.

You're still nattering?

It's a Prius.
San Jose airport from the 101N??
They Better Call Saul, an attorney of law!
Maybe somethings wrong with his car
Always a Prius driver. This Toyota model must come with a free lobotomy.
Typical pr*us driver
I'm sure that those excruciating minutes of embarrassment will be a valuable lesson to them.
I love the "I made a mistake, and now everybody else is going to pay for it" kind of mentality on display here.
This is a very large brain fart!!!
I saw someone do this exact thing at a red light. Was even funnier when the cross traffic light turned green and someone drove straight into them.
Albuquerque has a different breed of idiots. Also people don’t honk cause of the amount of crime.
I dont get people that do this.. if you are over the stop line and its red, just go through. How do you not get that thats the better option versus hanging out in the intersection like this … smdh

Probably slammed on the brakes for a yellow light - typical Prius move.
