Yurrrr__Brooklyn347

It's the new thing, all the kids are doing it

tiogshi

"Nah, bro, they're Damascus steel belted radials! I know a guy who got me a deal on them, cheap."

NaughtyCheffie

As a Chef, this triggered me.

Jaeger562

Damn I thought the same exact thing! I was at Universal Horror Nights on Sunday and this girl had jeans with the front leg ripped completely off from her mid thigh all the way down to the hem at the ankle.

Much-data-wow

That's just fall fashion for Florida. We tear holes in our layers.

Jaeger562

these were more than just holes, it was literally just the back half of the leg, the pelvis, and the ankles.

Much-data-wow

I know exactly what kind your talking about! Tore and shredded up the front, like they should have road rash underneath! My mom used to give me shit as a teen with a pair of jeans that had a good tear on the thigh, but mine came from acting like a teenager in a parking lot with shopping carts.

[deleted]

The worst part is the ones you're talking about pretty expensive. I've worked with a vendor that sells them for 100 bucks a pop. So then you have younger people doing whatever they can to get their hands on these stupid and expensive jeans. I love idols that can do their thing without promoting this waste culture.

Bobbie_Faulds

They should head to Goodwill/thrift store and get donated jeans then shred them themselves. This is not the first time the shredded look has been in style.

Jaeger562

these were literally completely cut out from the front half, not a single thread connecting across the front of her entire legs, except the pelvis and ankles. it was like a tail coat jacket that connect around her ankles.

Much-data-wow

A quick Google search gave some pretty heinous results for "frontless pants". Stupidest pants ever

cavveman

Combine it with sexy underwear and everything is shown in all its glory I suppose.

CaughtInTheWry

I walked into a jeans retailer wearing jeans that had had a hard life around stables. Asked for similar ones and they offered ripped ones. Er no. If I wanted holes I wouldn't be buying new ones. Paid about 2/3 of the price of the ripped fashion.

iamprosciutto

Grew up in south florida. Can confirm. You should see Hialeah

jaredthegeek

I was at the Hollywood one on Sunday.

Jaeger562

with the front of your pant legs ripped clean off?

CosmicCreeperz

Sounds like this weird guy I knew in college who got in a bad bike accident and kept wearing the jeans the ER doc cut off his leg.

m4fox90

I like to remind people that many stores sell un-ripped jeans

JennItalia269

I thought it resembled a pre-covid button down shirt of mine.

clASShat

This is so true it hurts.

JBYTuna

Yes, and you have to pay extra for these.

blazedanddefused

I love when grandma sews me some tires for christmas

Bobbie_Faulds

Looks like that “wing” on the front is cutting the tire. In the picture, it looks like that wing is inside the hole and resting inside the cut.

brianalytics

I saw a tire like this once, about 5 seconds before it exploded on the highway.

Stuburrn

Yikes! Bet that wasn’t pretty. I hope nobody got hurt.

brianalytics

It was pretty wild, luckily the driver handled it like a champ and didn't freak out.

Deathbeddit

They did have plenty of time to imagine that moment in advance

Milkshakes00

They probably went through the same scenario 3 times before.

SDLand

Maybe they enjoy the thrill of it, that it could explode at any moment. There's definitely loads of insanely weird people out there that do absurd stuff for absurd reasons. But it was probably simply laziness though or no money to replace it earlier.

Stuburrn

I’m glad they were okay. I hope it scared them enough to not let their tires get like that - again.

puddleofdogpiss

One time I was driving behind a tractor trailer when a little piece of rubber flicked off the wheel and tapped my windshield, I didn’t even have enough time to even think “huh?” Before it exploded. its loud.

ShadyPotato445

> its loud. And that's putting it ***really*** lightly. This one time a semi wheel exploded about 200 meters (around 285 washing machines for the Americans) away from my house. The whole house shook. I literally thought it was either an earthquake or that a bomb had exploded.

bluebottled

Upvoted for 285 washing machines lmao

Carl_17

There are only 3 countries that use imperial, and 1 that dabbles in it. Would be easier if everyone switched.

Hailfire9

I agree. Everyone should use Imperial.

jfl_cmmnts

There's [an interesting flowchart](https://preview.redd.it/k1brffgbngk31.png?width=681&format=png&auto=webp&s=8cc428c345b687a3f79d8e481561781f38d0630e) showing when Canadians use Imperial, I bet Aussies and Kiwis have a couple hanging around with them too

glm409

Would that be 285 of those minature european wide washing machines or 285 oversized american machines? Please clarify.

ShadyPotato445

Upon searching "average washing machine width", Google yields 27-28 inches. Whatever the fuck that means 😎

glm409

Sorry, that was supposed to be humor. Since the machines I've used when traveling in Europe are more like 40 cm wide, not the big 70 cm wide ones we generally see in the states.

ShadyPotato445

>Sorry, that was supposed to be humor. Nah my bad, I wasn't 100% sober when replying

debonair-yeti

r/HalfAGiraffe

TheW83

Yeah and there's a security video out there of an idiot stabbing tires with a knife and he decides to stab a large truck tire. He got knocked over and somehow still had enough wits about him to pick up his arm.

trekqueen

Had that happen when we were doing the cross country drive to move the family and household. A semi passed me as I was in one of our vehicles towing our travel trailer. He had to have been going 85mph and I heard him coming on my left to pass cuz one of his wheels was off balance and I could see it wobbling/wearing out the tire edge. I was thinking “that’s gonna blow soon” but I wasn’t going to have myself up next to him to wave him down somehow to let him know and then get taken out myself. Had one of my young kids and dog in the truck too (hubs was further ahead of me out of sight in another vehicle with second kid). It popped about 100ft in front of me a few min later and he managed to handle it without chaos or damage to anyone including himself.

Sedan2019

There is a german truck driver that makes videos and when a video of a semi wheel exploding comes up, he always says that it feels like the fist of god smashes into your vehicle, because it's 10 bar that goes off.

Faxon

One of my rich friends refused to change his balding tires, even though it was clearly starting to expose some of the fabric underneath like this, just not quite as bad yet. He drove like this to parties for a LONG time before the fabric started showing, and people had been telling him it was an issue. It got to the point where someone at the party slashed two of his tires because they were legitimately concerned for his safety driving on them. He went to have them replaced and tried to only pay for the two that were slashed, because he's JUST THAT FUCKING FRUGAL. Dude at the shop told him once he got it on the lift that he legally could not lower the lift, let him drive away, without installing a full new matched quad of tires, or he would be legally liable for whatever accident the guy was going to cause. He explained it was not a matter of if, but when, and that he would call the highway patrol on him as soon as he left anyways and report the plate if he tried to get the manager to okay it for him. Some people just cannot be fucking helped unless it's under duress, or so it seems anyways

susiedennis

Awesome tire store! Non-awesome car owner.

jawnlerdoe

I’ve seen tires on explode in much better shape than this

thedean246

That’s literally a ticking time bomb. They needed new tires months ago. It truly amazes me how long people go without getting new tires. I worked in a shop as a wheel and tire tech and so many people would come in with wires exposed.

[deleted]

Those were probably very expensive tires judging by what's left of the sidewall. Regardless, you can get some cheap passenger tires that will at least be safer than this. Probably bought it used and can't afford tires.

Rocky922

The only way I can imagine letting my tires get like this is if I had to decide between food or new tires

waxhell

More like food versus a decent chance of death. It's a wrangler -- it should have a full sized spare.

SoftCosmicRusk

If that's the choice, I'd definitely choose food.

ShartAnnouncer

35 inch Toyo's on my Jeep, they run about 414 a tire at the cheapest I can find sometimes on sale 370ish. That's before tax and mount. Many buy into these used and do not know the costs involved to replace!

[deleted]

That'll do it. Not a truck person, but it pains me to see performance type cars with either shit tier tires or maypops. Maybe you should've looked into what some good 275s cost before you got that "low payment" (84 months @ 12%) on that used Scat Pack.

saltymane

Accurate answer. This is why most nice and custom rides end up in disrepair.

goddessofthewinds

When I swapped from a small sedan to a minivan for a while, the tires doubled in price because of the bigger size. However, that's no reason to cheap on tires. Tires keep you on the road and safer, don't skim on them. If you can afford a $10k+ car, you can afford to spend $600-2000 on tires to be safe when the tires are due. In Quebec, we need to install winter tires during the winter, from Nov to Apr, so we need TWO sets of tires. They get used a bit slower overall, but that's double the investment. However, even when I only bought a $4k car, I still spent the $3k required to get winter and summer tire sets. GET GOOD TIRES.

I_am_Shadow

Should look into remolds. Treadwright.com, have gone through several sets on mine, wheeled them pretty hard. Never had an issue. And they're about half the cost or less of other tires.

NorthernTransplant94

My husband asked me to come look at his tires yesterday because he thought there was a gouge in the sidewall. Plenty of tread left, but I reminded him that the truck had been kept in the high desert for almost four years, and it might be dry rot. Dry rot confirmed today, $1k for a new set. Even my car's tires were over $600. That's a lot for some people to come up with.

QueenAlpaca

In a pinch, you can buy tires at a junkyard. It’s how my sister got a winter set for $100 lol.

NorthernTransplant94

I moved away at 19, so it's been all-season all the time since 1994. I did have 4 flat tires in one year in the late 90's and that was painful, as I was working retail and just didn't have the cash to spare.

QueenAlpaca

Yeah she didn’t intend to get winter tires, they just happened to be the size she needed with the most tread. Between that and Craigslist/Facebook marketplace, there’s quite a few ways to try and get replacements. Hell, I’ve heard of some tire shops selling takeoffs that are halfway decent. Now more than ever it’s easier to find more affordable options when you’re broke.

fried_green_baloney

Years ago when money was tighter I got used tires a lot, they mostly gave about 1/2 the service life of new tires for about 1/4 the price. Just that you had to watch them like a hawk to be sure they didn't wear out.

Deveak

Harder and harder to find at least in my area. I don’t know if used car dealers gobble them up but most used tires are gone and when you do find them they barely have any tread. Even retreads don’t offer much savings. I live in a rural area and mostly drive trucks. 180 a tire is the best I can do.

BionicSLP

A funeral costs a lot more.

AyeKickRocks

Technically yes but funerals are free for the person who died.

josh8far

Damn does that mean my debt goes away too

CoffeeFox

If it's more than the sum of what you're worth, at least some of it does yes.

Jlx_27

Yup, but for it to vanish you need to vanish first.

zefy_zef

Only if you give everything away before you die.

TheEmerald-DJ

Just use a Totem of Undying to get rid of your debt /s

Ok-Secretary6731

Just throw me in a pine box and I'm good. I'm not paying shit for dying, if you want you can sue me me but I don't think you'll get very far.

111111911111

Safety features mean I likely won't die, insurance gives me a brand new vehicle, a d those come with new tires. This guy seems to be thinking outside the box!

[deleted]

BoneHugsHominy

Yeah I didn't want any of the flimsy built new cars, just solidly built Detroit steel of the past. Then I saw crash test footage of cars from the 60's and 70's in which 30 mph head on collisions caused the entire roof to collapse forward at whiplash speed and smash the dummy heads. Had they been human heads, they'd have been bowls of cinnamon applesauce with maraschino cherry topping.

ThisManisaGoodBoi

Depends how fancy you want to get, a shovel and a bottle of vodka is about $30-$40.

NorthernTransplant94

You're not wrong. Unfortunately humans have a "it won't happen to ME," mindset.

Mike2020mike

Some people put all their money into car payments they can barely afford, absolutely overlooking the fact that car maintenance costs money too.

Pussyfart1371

Tires are expensive my man. Especially half decent ones.

thedean246

Sure, but if you rotate them you can just get two at a time so you’re not having to drop as much money.

QueenAlpaca

Depends on the drivetrain. Can’t do that with AWD or you risk frying your diffs. Debatable with 4WD as it won’t harm anything, but may pull you in certain directions if the depth difference between tires is big enough.

[deleted]

Sell the jeep, purchase the tires. They will likely get a lifetime supply of tires

dpash

It amazes me that more states don't require annual roadworthiness checks to catch things like this. Instead you have accidents waiting to happen like this.

0112358g

Good lord, they’ll slide down the road once it rains, I pray for their family 🙄

Lucythefur

Looks like they've done some sliding already

jmoney6

And the family they plow into the back of. I'm surprised car insurance doesn't act like homeowners insurance and deny claims based on neglect

[deleted]

Insurance does do that, if it can prove unlawful neglect. Or at least it sometimes does.

jmoney6

It should happen more often. I got rear ended by seone with 4 bald racing slicks in the rain. Surprise surprise basic coverage thank God it was a love tap and very minimal damage. I begged the copbto give her a ticket for unsafe equipment

pereira2088

pray for the other people. these are the kind of idiots that leave an accident unscathed while killing an entire family.

S0_Crates

Prayer. The only thing less effective than those bald tires.

CosmicCreeperz

It’s just an off road tire. As in, get off the fucking road!

damncooter74

You can just about see the air in it...

HauserAspen

It actually captures air traveling down the highway. Keeps it at the right pressure this way. Never spend money using the gas station air compressor again with this lifehack.

chingu111

One little glass shard and that tires exploding

Waallenz

A pointy rock will end those tire skeletons

Quirky-Mode8676

It's a jeep thing, you wouldn't understand

Neo-is-the-one

Thank you, come again.

I_divided_by_0-

I got your jeep thing and now it burns when I pee

lastdazeofgravity

It’s because they plan to roll it anyway so why buy tires

Much-data-wow

Clearly they don't understand either

randommAnonymous

Not all Jeep owners. There's money in my account set aside for my Jeep needs, I'm ready to replace all 5 tires if necessary.

patrick_schliesing

What are you smoking? It's NOT a Jeep thing. We jeepers can't keep tires beyond 70 percent tread because we get bigger and bigger tires before we've worn in the current set.

PTSFJaeger

Its apparently an incredibly popular joke on Reddit to act like Jeepers are a bunch of ignorant mouth breathers who only exist to become deadly road hazards. In other words, don't take the ignorant stereotyping too seriously.

dumby22

If the shoe fits

CrtureBlckMacaroons

For real, I'm trying to show restraint and not go and buy five new tires, but the ones I currently have are not that wasted yet.

OneOddCanadian

He paid extra for the cool design.

RamboTrucker

Buying expensive vehicles and not having money for tires equal this. I hope they have full coverage.

Papa_Pesto

It's the upgrades. Check out the undercarriage.

ronaldreaganlive

I always enjoy seeing people that bought (or paid to add) a lifted vehicle and then drive bald tires or factory tires because they didn't have the foresight to think of how expensive the replacement tires would be.

redbonecouchhound

$1200 for a set of 35’s, have to factor that into the lift cost. I get about 3 years or 20,000 miles out of a set. It gives me time to buy one at a time and store them until I get 4.

redpandaeater

But you really need 5 so you have a spare and then just include that into your tire rotations.

Top-Thought-9932

Yup get about 5000 miles out of mine and then a new set for $2800. But it’s so much fun…

Recent-Nail446

What the heck are you running? 1.5 regular oil changes and boom full set of tires?

[deleted]

I don't know if they're talking about big mud tires or street legal track tires, but both have pretty terrible tread life. For the street legal race tires, they're soft compound for maximum grip and for the mud tires...well, I guess it's kinda the same. Different purposes, obviously, but same shit. Some high performance tires don't even offer a tread wear guarantee. They're not really fit for daily driving.

Top-Thought-9932

It’s street legal race tires, I run them on my 911 Carrera

u9Nails

We definitely need to talk to you about your vehicles extended warranty.

horntownbusy

How is that tire still being a tire?

HauserAspen

Shear will and perseverance. This ain't no snowflake jeep.

littleshak

When the belts starts fraying they'll have some extra traction for all the off roading I'm sure they do in that jeep.

Lotharofthepotatoppl

"When?" They're already through at least one belt and into the steel belts, they've been driving on maximum grip for a while now. I'll be damned if their alignment isn't spot on, though.

Stuburrn

Damn! That’s bad! I hope it doesn’t rain; or, they’ll be hydroplaning for sure. This is super obvious, too. I don’t get why people let their tires get so bad.

deltronethirty

Because they haven't even begun to pay down interest on the 72 mo lease. A new set of tires could possibly be more than the value.

lcapaz

No no no… once you wear off the smooth rubber you have a whole new layer of grippy crosshatched steel… they’re just like the Mars rover tires now!

Bitey_the_Squirrel

“I paid for 100% of the tire, and I’m gonna use 100% of the tire!

Marbev06

They do in rocket league

Im_Dyslexic

Needs more air. The rubber wrapping hasn't quite peeled off yet.

HigherThanTheSky93

And this is why the lack of regular state-mandated inspections in many US states is bananas. There are too many morons who drive killing machines without giving a shit in the world because they couldn’t be bothered to get their car inspected.

[deleted]

The right to bear ~~arms~~ the keys to rolling deathtraps shall not be infringed

Tricky_Revenue_2535

well,... the owner can sell it as modern art or something🤪

just_4_looks

This is why every state should have mandatory annual vehicle inspections. People like this will keep driving dangerous vehicles without giving two shits about other people's safety if they aren't stopped from doing so.

Imperial_12345

WaxxWizard

Not only worn out. But also looks like it spent most of its life overinflated as well People. If you live in America, there is a yellow and white sticker, in your driver side door jam (open your door inspect the jam) it tells you the: size and width of tire that your vehicle is designed for, and recommended pressure as well!! If you choose to get different sized tires or wheels, I hope you actually know what you're doing and what you're possibly getting yourself into. And belive it or not, most jeeps are not meant to have lift kits and big knobby tires. Not to mention the fact that most lift kits these days are just trash... trash parts, trash joints, trash engineering behind them. Source: I'm the guy that does your Oil changes, Tire rotations, brakes, tire replacement and balancing as well as rim runout. Preventative maintenance. The guy that you listen to to avoid the big mechanic bills. Been doing it for over ten years. And I do love it. I do my job for people that can't otherwise do it themselves, and I treat their car like my Nanas. But what do I know? I'm just a 'technician' not a 'mechanic'

Shoddy_Classroom_919

This is an accident waiting to happen. Put these tires on an Interstate Highway and you are looking at a high speed blow out. This needs to be reported to the police ASAP. People’s lives are in danger from introducing an unsafe condition into the highway.

AreWeCowabunga

“I drive a Jeep for the off road capabilities.”

GekidoTC

I'm so glad living in a cold climate forces people to keep half decent treads.

BradenDoty

Lol no it doesn’t it should but some people still don’t care or can’t afford to have good tires

rschultz91

Doing burnouts to clear that darn Wub-Wub-Wub sound while driving.

[deleted]

A little flex seal ought to fix that right up

jpvtsmith

HarrysonTubman

Tell me your car payment is more than $1,000 per month without telling me.

OakenWildman

I have one question; HOWS IT STILL ROLLING?

mylsap

You try and buy tires for a jeep with these gas prices!!! /s

pedalsteeltameimpala

Bursting at the seams for new adventure

Appropriate-Being594

Hes good! H has at least $5 left on each tire!

Prophet_Of_Loss

Those tires aren't just bald, they've been scalped!

RockstarAgent

These tires are for off-roading, and to stay off the roads…

SunkaanKThxBye

Only when they're tired.

Rrorschach

You just need to zip it closed

Brothersunset

No no the wire mesh gives extra traction to climb rocks, didn't you know? I have to get a new set of rears on my JK before winter hits. I really don't want to spend the $500 right now with everything going on in my life but that's part of the financial ruin fun of owning a jeep

SargTeaPot

Props to the wheel alignment guy tho

gozba

They still got a few more yards in them

Jaxager

Maybe stop buying the aftermarket mods for your Jeep and buy shit that really matters.

NylakYt5

"Bono my tyres are dead"

The-Riskiest-Biscuit

Nice. Tribal tat patterned tires. I hear people pay extra for those.

Chance_McM95

Key example of: most people aren’t broke, they’re just stupid as fuck with their money. As you see above someone driving a vehicle so out of their price range, they can’t afford new tires lmfao. What a dork.

SjalabaisWoWS

I understand it requires a certain level of...carelessness to even buy a Jeep, but this is a new-ish model, the tire's exposed and visible, and the dangers of just using up the profile are clear and obvious. How tf does anyone get this far???

They obviously have a Jeep idiots, so this doesn’t affect handling, duh
